Shane and Vince would be proud of that level of match fixing.

Max Verstappen is putting together the most dominant season in F1 history; since Abu Dhabi he’s been hearing the haters and living that MJ “And I took that personally” meme.

Consider this, the single season records that he’s chasing down:
    -11 wins (Schumacher/Vettel, 13)
    -335 points (Hamilton, 413)
-116 point margin of victory (Vettel, 155).

Even more impressive when you remember that Max had DNFs in week 1 and 3.

If Charles Leclerc wins out and gets every fastest lap, he will max out, pun intended, at 375 points.

RB figured out a way to exploit the salary cap. Completely ignore your second car and driver and only develop one car. They are smart. That is how you win titles.

Bumped, because the release of “Drive to Survive” means that a new F1 season is upon us.

Bahrain is a week away, I can’t wait.

Definitely have to go with the dude who’s looking for the three peat…Max was absolutely dominant last season and I don’t suspect that car drops off performance-wise.

My hope is Ferrari can minimize/eliminate the race management issues that plagued them last season; the drivers and cars are both top-quality, the team needs to be right there with Red Bull.

The quality of the Mercedes drivers should be able to overcome most car issues, but they’ll end up a step below Red Bull/Ferrari.

As far as the rest of the field, it’s a complete crapshoot; between the driver turnover and the teams that underperformed last year, I’m not sure who ultimately ends up competing with Mercedes. I’d say the drivers with the most to prove are Stroll and Piastri: Stroll needs to perform to prove to Daddy that he deserves a ride in 2024, Piastri for the way he is associated with a very popular driver losing his seat.

Both Mercedes drivers are up at the end of 2023, but I can’t see Russell walking away from that team after only his second season. If you’re Lawrence Stroll and you have a chance to upgrade from your underachieving kid to a seven-time world champion, you probably back up the Brinks truck…

The hype around the Aston Martin team seems unbelievable. I would love for another team to actually be competition up there though.

I suspect though that Ferrari and Merc probably will still be comfortably ahead of them. Hope AM can prove me wrong. Alonso has the ability to do so. Stroll...well he's Canadian as well so he gets at least some patriotic points from me.

Red Bull looking damn near unbeatable. Aston Martin outpacing both Ferrari and Mercedes is very intriguing. Ferrari really needs to go on a podium run, like soon, before the other two pull away.

Imola GP cancelled due to flooding in the area, disappointing but ultimately the right move.

It’s not even like FIA built themselves some wriggle room into the schedule in case of unforeseen circumstances such as this. Looking at the remaining 2023 dates, there is really no place to put Imola 2.0 without compounding the risk for the drivers…

    To re-up from last season:

Ten races left in 2023 and The Bad Guy has 314 points, 10 wins and a 125 point lead on #2 in the Drivers.

The records are 454 points (Max in 2022), 15 wins (Max in 2022), 155 point margin of victory (Vettel in 2013).

That race for second in both the Drivers and Constructors will be very interesting…

    :crickets:

Adrian Newey, the brains behind the dominant Red Bull cars, set to leave the team next Spring. Speculation about Max leaving Red Bull, but I simply cannot see that happening.

    So far in 2024:
-Max is doing usual Max things
-Sergio driving well in the #2 Red Bull but still might not keep his job.
-four pretty distinct tiers so far (Red Bull, Ferrari/McLaren, Aston Alonso/Mercedes, everyone else)
-absolute chaos about to begin as teams begin to make decisions for 2025, half the grid is up for grabs

Wow. I thought there’d be at least a couple F1 fans on the forum.

Both the Drivers and Constructors titles look to be going down to the wire, to likely be decided in Abu Dhabi in early December. I think Lando ultimately runs out of room to catch Max, who claims #4.

Four races and two sprints left in the season, Lando keeps chipping away at Max’s lead.

McLaren with the faster car, but Max has the advantage of being in championship races. My gut still says Lando runs out of track (pun intended) to catch Max, given how good both Ferraris are looking; Norris needs at least one win or a Verstappen DNF/shutout to really make things interesting, damage can still be mitigated by staying within 6-8 points each weekend. Piastri’s win in Hungary looms larger each passing day.

McLaren and Ferrari neck-and-neck in the Constructor’s, honestly have no clue who pulls this out.

The 2025 driver lineup is more-or-less finalized, with one opening each at Alpha Tauri (I refuse to call it VCARB) and Kick. Sergio still under contract at Red Bull, but that could well change if his form doesn’t improve.

Kudos to Alpine for the double podium.

An absolute masterclass performance by Max, who has seemingly sealed his fourth consecutive Drivers Championship.

Verstappen needs a mere 25 points over the remainder of the season. If Lando runs the table, he maxes out (pun intended) at 417.

The Constructors is likely headed to McLaren.

Massive congratulations to Max “The Bad Guy” Verstappen, four in a row is extremely impressive. And still only 27. Already firmly in the Mt. Rushmore discussion, knocking on the door for GOAT. If Red Bull sticks the landing on the 2026 car, he might just be able to get #8 and dip out of F1 by his mid-30s.

Ferrari needs a miracle to win the constructors, essentially a double points shutout from McLaren. Alpine v Haas ultimately means more, as every penny matters for those two squads.

What’s fascinating is that Lando suddenly has Charles making a last minute charge for P2 in the Drivers.

I think we had some pretty interesting penalties this weekend...

Lets start with the 1 grid place penalty on Max for impeeding George in qualifying. Odd that he got one, when neither were on a push lap.

I think the 10sec stop/go on Lando was a bit excessive. I understand that the drivers are responsible for following any/all signals without team help. I think a drive through or even a 10sec penalty would have been better there.

Lewis and his fun with the team... was interesting to hear him complaining about wanting the retire the car after the drive through penalty, then basically telling them to forget it when they told him to bring it in.

Congrats to McLaren on the Constructors.

Congrats to Lewis on an epic run at Mercedes. Be interesting to see how he handles the increased pressure next year at Ferrari, where he will have a better car and be expected to compete for both championships.

Congrats to Valtteri on the (likely) end to an outstanding career.

Ferrari did all they could. I think with 10-12 to go, they should have brought Carlos in to put on mediums to see if he could reel Lando back in. Would have been interesting to see something different. Likely would have put the fastest lap with the Ferrari's, but wouldnt have been enough to shift the constructors, unless Lando made a mistake or McLaren brought him in and the pit went sideways.

Lewis had an incredible run with the Mercs for the last 12 years (last 2 not so great, but nice to see them come back to form the later part of the season). Added pressure next year from Ferrari might be what he needs to get back into the swing of things. McLaren and Ferrari have been the cars the 2nd half of the season with Mercs nearby.

Its a bit of an injustice to take Valterri from driver to reserve and Merc. He's had a great run. It'll be interesting to see what he does in the future, aside from moer bike races and looking even more Aussi.

I wonder what RB are going to do with their #2 seat. Checo was a no-show for them the entire 2nd half of the season and only scored ~1/3 the points Max did. Max would have been fighting Mercedes for 3rd in the constructors alone.
