Went to Game, HMV, Grainger Games, Blockbusters etc looking for this game today. They've all sold out and said that they've had enough people asking about the game to be sold out again 5 times over. It seems that most of the shops over here we're expecting this to be such a hit.

Just checked my guide, Saturday night. Can't wait to watch it, I'd actually like to see a feature film based on this, having finished story mode. Very cinematic.

Yeah, so have I. Having played this for a while now, I'm a bit less enthusiastic about it. Racing across barren wasteland from one identikit place to the next, doing boring and uninspired missions. I know it's the West, and it's supposed to be barren, but at least change the missions up. Either the option of going to X and killing everyone, or running away from X and killing people on a horse.

Even the side stuff gets old pretty quick. OOh maybe I'll go and pick some flowers, or shoot a crow for the hundreth time.

Is there a demo of this? I've checked the Playstation Store (the UK one anyway) but can't seem to find one, but I would have thought there would be for such a big release.

You don't have to do all the walking in between waypoints.

Just set the waypoint on your map, create a campfire and auto your way to your next mission.

I agree with this a bit. It is literally GTA in the Wild West and for me the GTA format was very tired. Making it bigger just means it takes longer to get to the action.

It's packaged up really well, really well presented and atmospheric but the gameplay is disappointing.

Wolves killed my horse last night. I was super pissed. Then I shot a dude to take his horse, while no one was around, and the cops still showed up. How can they know I shot someone in the desert if no one is around?

I died fighting them and my horse magically reappeared. Advantage - Matty C

That one was pretty easy actually.

Just wait till you are attacked by a pack, jump off your horse and start swinging.

Okay, I don't have the lasso. Can I get an answer from someone who knows how to get the lasso?

I saw video of john's lasso in action, so I know its available in the game.

I stumbled upon a challenge in which I need to pick flowers for some old man. The flowers are located in like three out of four corners of the map... bugger.

I finally got the elegant suit though and killed some dude in a duel after trying to cheat him. I feel like I am terrible at the duels but I still won. Until last night, I didn't realize that side of the map existed (Theives Landing).

I got the same challenge and completed it on Sunday. You need to pick three of each flower, which are pretty frustrating to locate. When you return the flowers, leave immediately. There are a pack of wolves near the house.

The old man mission was definitely an eyebrow-raiser.

The worst place for wildlife is up in the northern valley near the "American Appetites" mission. There are way too many cougars up there, and those will fuck you and your horse up in the blink of an eye.

I haven't found any bears yet, but I know they're there.

Before I got this game, I had read something about being able to rob banks. Now I've beaten it and never came across anything like that. Are there even banks in the game?

All wildlife seems pretty random. Head to the north of Armadillo where all the cacti are, and you'll probably run into one up there.

When you open up the North East part of the map, it is basically Bear Town. I have killed about 6 of them in a couple of hours, and that wasn't even through looking for them.

There are tons of Cougars around Fort Mercer and towards the north of Gaptooth.

Also, I've seen banks around in Armadillo and one of the mexican towns. I don't know if/how you rob them though. It would make sense that you could do that.

What's the most money you've had at a time? I have about $1300 right now, and that's mostly from selling all the wildlife I kill. I've bought a couple of things, but nothing in the stores looks that intriguing. I almost bought the sawed off shotgun, but then I received one for completing a mission. Meh... maybe I'll just blow it all on booze and poker.

Getting money is pretty easy if you are good at the knife game. You can just keep making a hundred bucks, takes about 20 seconds.

Anyone know a way to turn *off* the lock-on feature in bullet time? I kinda prefer it without.

There's not a whole lot to spend your money on though.

I've finished all the challenges (hunter, survivalist, sharpshooter, treasue).

What do you mean 'lock on'? Is the the thing where it automitically paints an x on the target as you move your aim over them? If so, you need to do the Landon mission in mexico, I can't remember the name of the town. It's the one in the middle. And it's called dead-eye you div.

Once you get to Mexico, look for the LR and complete his first mission. The dead-eye will then change, as Alf said. If you are not yet in Mexico, it can not be turned off. It's meant to show that you're not quite an elite gunslinger yet.

Are there any reasons to rent this game rather than to buy. I really want to play it now because I've heard so many good things and I enjoy rockstar games.

I'd have to wait til August if I was going to buy it though.

Is it worth it to wait it out to buy or worth a rent?

A couple of rents though. It's a big ole game. But I doubt it's one that once you've finished you'll go back to much. Unless they release an awesome add-on pack... which they are likely to do.

I haven't played it in ages, I just got bored of the missions after storming the fort. It was this big mission you spent a while building up to and I just thought it was crap. Hopefully I'll go back to it soon just to finish off the storyline but this game has been a big disappointment to me.

The game is ultra-boring before you go to mexico. After you go to mexico, it gets a little more fun and then towards the end the missions actually get pretty exciting.

By the way, what the holy fuck is the point of the "I know you" mini stranger mission?

Its a touch repetitive. I still like it, and find myself playing for four or five hours accidentally, but I cn see why others would be pissed off.

They were foolish not to have a Fallout-esque system where you can just pick somewhere you want to go, and providing you have discovered that area you can warp to it - the map is too big not to include it.

Im in Mexico, but tend to spend a lot of time just faffing around, so not sure where I am storyline-wise.

Yeah, pretty much, the missions are equally as dull as well. They tear the arse out of that gatling gun idea, it crops up in about 6 more missions after the first time you use it.

The thing that pissed me off in this game, was hunting. Animals like bears, cougars, wolves, it wasnt hunting, it was kill or be killed. As for the rest of it, Single player campaign isnt complete. GTA IV and they're single player add on packs shoulda been the big clue. So sucks to those who paid the 60 bucks expecting huge single player. Online is where the game shined for me. The single player and the massive online stuff completely makes the game buy worthy.

glad i didn't get this now. looks like my predictions 2 or 3 months ago about it being an done to death genre were true. rockstar are shit now. GTA5 needs an entire reboot for the series. new game engine and style of gameplay etc. i'm playing GTA4 now after it sitting on a shelf for 2 years, and i'm up to manhattan, 10 hours in. already very bored of the game. the Combat is woeful. and you die over and over because of the awful controls. my mate who has just got into games at the age of 26 thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread, but that's because he hasn't played every other Rockstar game. it's all new to him.

I do have to say though... I am now in West Elizabeth and the missions are starting to get on my tits.

Ride to point A in a group, listen to the same bollocks you heard at the start of the game about how John is just trying to find xxxx, how he wants to get back to his family etc etc etc'.

    Stop. Do some shooting.

    Ride back.

...it's the riding in a group thing that is killing me.

Also, in Mexico... how many missions were to do with that fucking train but from different angles? One. Protect the train. Two. Attack the train. Three. Protect the train while on the train. Four. Attack the train in a station and uncouple a car. Boring.

None of the missions stand out for me. None have the wow-factor of the bank heist or in VC when you have to rescue Lance. Those were epic missions. Everything here is a bit flat.

It annoys me that they've got this rich tapstry of the wild west and they couldn't think of anything cool to do with it. Even the old cliche wild west things that everyone expects weren't included. Not once have I walked into a bar through the bat wing doors and everyone has gone quiet and looked at you.

    There hasn't really been a tense stand-off.

Why do you only do the herding once in the entire game? Bit odd.

There is NOTHING to spend your money on.

I am enjoying it. I do like it. But it feels like a missed opportunity.

This game is the ultimate in style over substance. Everything was poured into making it authentic and into making sure there were "details" but these open world games have moved on beyond the Rockstar model. The world is enormous but the game is depressingly linear.

    Bully/Canis Canem Edit. Telling you.

I think it's decent that they put in fast travel, but it's kinda hidden - as people haven't found it. Then you need to find a spot "away from roads", and then you pick the place from a list of options that you have to be check on the map and remember before you open the campsite.

I agree with Alf in that the game feels like a missed opportunity. I enjoyed it for awhile, but everything get repetitive fairly quickly, and the main storyline doesn't manage to hold my interest. Instead, I just play the game wishing for an RPG set in the Wild West, especially if it was done by the guys who did Oblivion and Fallout or the ones who did Mass Effect.

I love the idea of this game, but for all that there is to do in the world, it just doesn't feel very deep.

GTA4 had loads of flaws, the main one being that every mission was the bloody same, but soulless is the last thing I'd call it Alf! That's the first game that genuinely felt like a living world.

You can place your mark after setting up the campsite.

I haven't logged as many hours on this thing as many of you have but I think the criticisms are valid. It is a bit repetitive, the storyline isn't the greatest, etc.

Still, to this point I quite enjoy it personally. The bounty hunter missions are some of my favourite to this point and I also enjoy horseshoes far too much.

Every mission is just shooting and feels the same. They made this game to be like GTA IV and didn't apply much thought to it. The fact it has the same kind of clock as GTA, and you have to be at missions in a certain window just leads to you having to keep saving and cancelling to move the clock around 6 hours. Ugh.

Same thing happened to me on that mission. Only once, though.

I'm actually the opposite of most in regards to this game. At first I wasn't impressed and felt pretty "meh" about the whole thing. I didn't start caring until I went back up North for the final stretch of the game. Frankly, I've been even more into it after beating the main story.

Wow, what a fucking game. Up until I came back into the states, I thought it was boring. But after seeing that ending, I can't help but say i've never been as emotionally invested in video game characters as much I was here.

Earlier, I was posting about how the "I know you" side mission is worthless and makes no sense, but I think I figured it out now.

great game though. If you haven't been playing it, you should start it up again.

I'm in Mexico at the moment but like others found it a bit boring and haven't play for about a week and half. After reading the above comments I'm gonna give it another go.

Messing with the audio settings SAVES YOUR GAME...
I was about to die at the hands of a second mountain lion, I turned the audio up a bit, and it saved and I kept all the money I collected and shit I was doing before I died...

    I LOL'D at that.

Taking all that time picking up all them flowers to see that was worth it.

Completed the storyline the other night. Just wondering how long it's going to take to get 100% and wondering if it's worth it.

Got a locked trophy last night. It's called "Dasterdly"

I beat the game using my brothers save file on Monday. I am not even going to bother playing it again. I downloaded the new DLC, and don't even have friends online to play the DLC with.
