The DLC was free though, so at least that part wasn't wasted.

I need some help. I'm trying to get to the Tumbleweed hideout but every time I get to its location it tells me at the top left hand corner that the hideout has been deserted, or something, and that I should find something else to do and come back later. This is the only hideout I havent finished so what am I doing wrong?

Just earned 100% on the 360 version this morning. Earned it in just under 24 hrs. of gameplay, but this was my second time with the game, as I put about 30 hours into the PS3 version before exchanging it for the 360. In short, I've played the balls out of this game, probably more than any other game so far this year. It's at least tied with Mass Effect 2 in terms of gameplay time from me.

I think the one player could have been improved if you could have played a few levels as part of Dutch's gang, then shown the betrayal. I just didnt feel for John; I didn't care about his story.

However, you are correct - online is great craic if you get in a good room.

Just rented this on Friday. I'm usually late with these things. Anyway, I'm at the point where I'm racing Bonnie around the ranch and my horse keeps throwing me off. I got fed up at one point and shot it. That ended the mission though.

Look at the blue meter next to your mini map...
You can't deplete that blue meter, or your horse will throw you off...

Just press the giddyup button enough that you're going fast, but the meter doesn't start going down a bunch...

Right after the count down you want to move your cursor up to the guy. You can either target his hand, put 6 shots in his body, or go for the head shot. You then pull the trigger to lock on to that space and watch the meter. If the meter fills before his you will shoot first and win. It's rather easy. There's a tutorial on youtube as well but I can't be fucked to find it.

I'm still on summer vacation, so I have been on this every night until the wee hours.

When I don't fancy working on real missions I go back to doing a bit of hunting. Having trouble hunting the boars needed, I've seen one but I need 5.

So, I've been looking into new games to get (been out of the gaming loop for several months now) and this certainly has caught my idea. I'm a western nut and tend to eat up anything along those lines. This game feels like it will be a sure fire winner for me but I have to ask one thing: just how much does it control like GTA?

From reading comments, it seems the mission structure is very similar, but what about combat and item selection? This isn't anything against GTA, it's just that I've played so many of those games that I'm looking for something fresh. Uncharted 2 will probably come before this, but I could see this being a game that I don't finish if it gets too repetitive or feels too familiar.

Reading that you can tie someone to the train tracks just seems like too much fun...

Seconded. If you're a Western buff (which I'm not) you'll love this game and may even come to consider it one of the best you've ever picked up. One of the funnest games I've ever played. I haven't gotten very far into it (yet) but my friend couldn't stop playing it and we're both not big western fans.

Just a great, great game. There are a boat load of similarities to the GTA games but it is smoother and just much better. It's a purchase that you will not regret.

Yeah you can do things like that, but you do it once and the novelty wears off. As a game, it's virtually identical to GTA. Very dull. They spent so long putting in these little touches and forgot about the gameplay.

If you're looking for challenging gameplay then I'd opt for Uncharted 2 first. Red Dead has a great atmosphere, superb voice acting, interesting characters, but overall it's pretty easy. I think I've died once during a mission. The shoot-outs in Uncharted 2 are much more intense; and it has all of the things above too. Of course I can only speak for what I've played so far in Red Dead - plot spoiler ahead:

I've gotten back into Red Dead after leaving it for about 4 weeks. I've stayed with it pretty regularly for about 2 weeks, but I can feel another break coming on. Same plot spoiler as above:

    Thanks.

I'll definitely be picking up Uncharted 2 first. Easy games tend to wear thin on me and I'm generally looking for more challenging adventures (Ninja Gaiden, extreme mode on MGS, etc.) I'll might even give this a rent before buying it. Not looking for another GTA, but the western theme definitely has me intrigued.

This is true, but only at the beginning of the game. The end of the game is a freaking masterpiece. If only they had left alot of the crap in the beginning out and replaced it with missions with Bill Williamson and Javier Escuella instead....

i think it presents a leraning curve, and it is part of the reason why the story works so well. I've never had a game before where I am disappointed that I only have 30% of it left to do. I've trying to savour the time by hunting and collecting flowers etc.

Got all the treasure, which is easy enough, but the other challenges get ridiclous. After about level 7 they are going to take HOURS to complete.

Just finished it. I didn't mind the ending but the replay value is nil.

Now that I have had some time to think about the ending I really like it.

I finally loaded this up for the first time at the weekend (i bought it about a month ago). Only played multiplayer so far but I quite enjoyed it. The controls seem extremely clunky though, even worse than GTA. I found even going through a door to be tricky at times and would often fall off of things. Maybe I just haven't played much GTA lately.

The controls flow very well when you get used to them. Riding down a man, lassoing him, getting off your horse and hogtying him will soon become second nature.

I just got this yesterday and have been having similar issues so far - the controls feel awkward and clumsy. Probably because I'm awkward and clumsy, really, but riding a horse just isn't intuitive, yet... especially since seems to keep randomly slowing down even when holding X to maintain speed. Still, it probably is just that I'm not used to it yet, and I'm hoping soon I'll be able to handle it really well, because I'm loving the atmosphere and the environment.

Been playing it for a week now, and unfortunately the control issues haven't improved much at all. Thank goodness for dead-eye, because the autoaim doesn't give a shit about preserving my life at all, and happily will point at five random birds in the sky before getting me anywhere near someone shooting me from eight feet away. Marsden moves as if he is constantly wading through mud as well and for some reason he has a habit of standing still for three seconds after firing off a shot from cover, making him a sitting duck, or will just randomly refuse to fire at all. I feel like I spend more energy fighting the controls than I do fighting the enemies. 'Clunky' really is the word.

It's a shame too, because I love everything else about the game. It's all great except the, y'know, gaming part of it. Great soundtrack, lovely environment, cool characters and an interesting story, but I feel weary of the gunplay and movement already and I've just entered Mexico.

I didn't find the controls problematic at all. In fact, I thought the shooting was too easy if anything.

Also, I beleive you have to tap X in order for the horse to keep up speed. Each tap is like a kick of the spur sort of thing.

Yeah, I've never had any of these problems with it. With the shooting thing, it will only aim at the birds in the sky if they are the nearest thing to the centre of the screen. You have to look at what you want to kill to get Marston to aim at it.

The walking is kinda hard to get used to, but its no different from GTA4 and not much different from the GTA3 games to the best of my memory.

If you are behind cover, what do you mean he stands still? I dont remember that happening to me, but surely if he's behind cover then he isnt a sitting duck.

If you keep your finger down on L2 (or LT, I assume on 360), Marston is going to keep his head up, and you'll get shot. You'll have to release the button for him to go all the way back into cover. I actually discovered that in GTA IV then applied it to RDR.

Maybe you already knew that. I agree that it's a bit clunky, but it just takes time to figure out the subtleties.

I think the controls for shooting are absolutely perfect, and I'm completely baffled as to why you have any problems, but I suspect you are just over-used to the controls of another game. Walking, I agree is a bit of a pain in the arse, I hate having to tap X to get him to walk at any pace. I think it would be better if you could hold down one of the shoulder buttons to get him to walk faster.

I do aim toward people but it seems to be pretty flakey as to whether it will 'register' them as being a viable target and lock on, regardless of distance, and I have to keep tapping L2 to hope to maybe get Marsden in a cooperative mood. And now and then he'll just swing wildly up into the air to shoot at a bird even if someone is blasting him in the face from five feet away.

The walking is kinda hard to get used to, but its no different from GTA4 and not much different from the GTA3 games to the best of my memory.
True, it's not much different from GTAIV, but unfortunately the walking in GTAIV was really annoying as well.

Yeah, I knew about that already. I let go of L2 to get back behind cover and he stands there literally for three seconds before getting back down. He just freezes and gets shot, lots. It's utterly ridiculous and really, really annoying, and it's not a rare thing at all. He also will refuse to fire quite often, usually when the camera gets very close to him for no apparent reason.

The last game I played that was anything like this was GTAIV just a few months ago, and I've not been playing much since then. I don't feel like I'm not used to the controls, and I don't even think the controls don't make sense or anything like that, it seems a reasonable system. It's just they are horribly poor in their response. I did get the game second hand, though... could it be damaged and not responding properly due to that?

Well I still suck at shooting but I'm having fun with the gambling. It is slow but it is nicely immersive. I'm pretty good at Texas Hold 'Em, mostly because they can't read my, can't read my, no they can't read my poker face.

I just finished the main storyline. Damn.

I won't bore anyone with the details, most of you will already know what happens and all that. I'll just say this was a fantastic gaming experience, and I was genuinely moved by the ending. Films have a hard time moving me, for a game to achieve it is amazing. It's a beautiful setting, a really immersive game world, and there are plenty of memorable characters and moments. Entering Mexico was breathtaking. I just wish the controls were better, because they caused a lot of irritation by being so clunky and unresponsive. Marston has the turning circle of a semi-truck (while the horse appears to pivot like a bicycle) and getting him to climb ladders or get on horses or that sort of thing seems to require mashing the triangle button before he'll respond. Plus he still refuses to get the hell down after firing off a shot from cover, keeping his head up to get shot at for a while before ducking. It's my only complaint about the game, but unfortunately the controls are the interface between the player and the game, so it's a pretty significant issue if it's annoying to handle the player character. Still, it's a game that is definitely worth experiencing.

I love Marston. I love his sarcasm and his weariness and the fact that he shares my contempt for the bastards who keep stringing him along, asking for one last favour before they give him any information or whatever he's trying to get at that given moment. I can relate to him well, which I find rare in game protagonists. Usually they are either mute badasses or complete muppets. This guy is smart and humorous.

I love this game. Wish I'd got it when it first came out. Multi-player is so much fun and single player.... well it's been many years since I played a game where literally I turn it on for an hour and next thing I know five hours have passed.

Anyone still playing on line on the PS3? May need to posse up.

How the fuck do you cheat at poker!?!?

Every time I try it I get caught. If i move the arrow slowly, if i dont mve it at all, if i move it quickly, if i keep it in the center, if it wobbles a bit, it doesnt seem to matter.

That was the first song I played through the xbox when I was playing through the DLC

Which by the way is really enjoyable, if not a bit repetitive. I have yet to venture onto the multiplayer survival part yet though.

I've played through roughly 30% of Undead Nightmare now and it's a lot of fun. It's just an extension of the main game really but I really enjoyed the main game so the extension is welcome. I hadn't played it in months and this is reminding me of how much I enjoyed this game.

I'm so close to 100% in the main game now. I think all I have left is to finish the 8 bounty missions for each region, maybe buy a few more maps to unlock all locations, and one or two other things. I finished all the ambient challenges today... disarming 6 people without reloading was kind of tricky.

See, it's this sort of DLC which I don't object to. Say what you like about Rockstar but they always give value for money.

I 100%'d it yesterday, and I've suddenly gotten back into the original game with every intention of 100% that too (apparently I gave up after completing the story as

Completely agree about the spoiler. That hurt my interest as well.

I admit it's a bold move and served the story well...but "WORK YOU DAM NAG!" is a line that makes me want to put my controller through the screen.

YES! My wife was watching me play yesterday, and he kept saying that. She's like, "Why the hell is he so annoying?" All I did was grumble and shake my head.

I'll be at 100% in a couple hours!!

I picked up Undead Nightmares at the Airport earlier. It was £20 but had all the other DLC with it, and frankly I don't mind paying more cash over to Rockstar.

    Explain to me Undead Nightmare.

I read up on the disc release a bit and, along with amazing reviews, it said you don't need the original release to play it. I don't have RDR yet but, right now, I have a much greater interest in lynching zombies in the Old West than the proper game. Will I be doing myself a huge disservice if I play this before RDR? (I already know how RDR ends, if that matters.)

There are some backstories involving other characters that will not necessarily be as apparent, but if you're just interested in zombie killing good times, I don't really think it matters.

You might not get some of the back and forth between characters as they kind of assume you know who everyone is but that doesn't necessarily kill the game.

I think I might actually sit down tonight and do some missions. I've had the game for 5 months now, about time I go forward rather than killing people left and right and hogtieing people to put on tracks.

I'm downloading all of the DLC for this right now, as there are three of my friends who I'm fairly certain have only left their homes for work and necessities for a few weeks now as a result of it. This is a genuinely shocking development for one of them, so I've got to consider that a pretty ringing endorsement.

That is definitely pretty awesome, but alas, the download has already begun, and they do have that pesky "no refunds EVER" policy.

Well, I posted a huge ass picture of it, so you can always print it out and size it over the original box art...

I downloaded it around Halloween, lasted me just under the week and it did get quite repetitive.

It was still enjoyable though, and gave me a great reason to play Red Dead again since completing it

I picked up the disc version last week along with GT5. I traded in my vanilla copy of the original game after getting a 100% complete on it, so it's nice to go back. I'm going to hold onto this version, though, since I realized that even after 100% I began to miss the game. I just love the game world. And yes, the cover art alone is reason enough to own this game.

If they make a movie, it better be about Undead Nightmare. A western about zombies would be fucking ace. It should be the final film in the Man With No Name series. DO IT CLINT!

I saw Undead Nightmare at Wal-Mart for 30 bucks. I'll probably get it next week after my final.

Oh and Atty, I seen a western about zombies. It's a comedy spoof though.
