Well we did have Bad News Barrett but then WWE nixed that fun gimmick because people dared to like it.

Bad News Brown would treat Barrett like he would a fat sweat hog disturbing him at the Apollo theater.

Sad to see Bad News has been gone for over 11 years. He was feuding with Jake Roberts when I first got into wrestling and disappeared shortly after.

One of my earliest memories of Bad News Brown (Allen) was when I watched Stampede Wrestling back in 1987 and he jumped Bruce Hart and sliced his head open like a can of tomatoes. Was pretty excited when he showed up and won the WMIV Battle Royal. Too bad his WWF run was so brief*, he probably could have done a bit more there.

"Let me tell you something you beer-belly sharecroppers.."

*On the other hand, two and a half years were pretty common and along the lines of many other guys in the WWF at the time; Rick Rude, One Man Gang, Big John Studd, Billy Jack Haynes, King Kong Bundy, Harley Race, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes, Ronnie Garvin and many others only lasted about 2-3 years as well. Guessing that the 1980's road schedule could grind down most people. Pretty crazy these days that people like, Natalya, Alicia Fox and Zack Ryder have been around a lot longer than many legends of the past were. Shit, Cena and Orton has been around 16 years straight compared to Randy Savage's 9 years and Hulk Hogan's 10.

They are also fucking great fun if they are done in a couple of nights. Loads of opportunity for unusual and new match ups, chance to start new storylines, character progression.

I understand, I love tournaments, but I thought the reason that King of the Ring wasn't an annual thing was because tournaments didn't equal ratings.

King of the Ring I feel sank because of tournament's. 1995 being an absolute stinker too. 1996 had an IC title tourny, 97 had the European title one, 98 had Deadly Game and the IC title one a month before, multiple #1 contender brackets, then finally the Undisputed title one. Who's buying a PPV to see "who's crowned king" when most tournaments crowned champions?

I do like the idea of doing King of the Ring as a yearly network special. what's good about that is it won't interfere with storylines and there won't need to be a build to it and interfere with the other ppv going on that month. It will also benefit guys like Shelton Benjamin, Tye Dillinger, Mojo Rawley, Bobby Roode and give them something to do.

King of the Ring was shit because they never sparked meaningful stories out of the last few. Other than a half assed King gimmick they did nothing afterwards.

The year Brock won when the King of the Ring got a title shot at Summerslam was the best use of it. So simple and effective that they should've kept that. It's like the Rumble leading into Mania.

Keith Lee can do some pretty impressive stuff. He does have a very smug aura about him though, probably would make for a better heel. Coincidentally I think both the rugby player he wrestled this week and the German kid last match both seem to be pretty interesting prospects.

Fell asleep during the main even so only catched the ending pretty much, will have to give it a rewatch.

It's weird with Keith Lee because his last 2 opponents were European, they didn't look like your standard squash guys either. And the matches were a good length where the opponent was able to showcase a little as well. I don't know if either of those guys have ever been on NXT but they were good.

    Matches for tonight:

The main event tonight has been described as "MUST-SEE," so make a point to watch it if you can.

And a slightly off-topic reminder: Mae Young Classic (Season 2) premieres tonight after NxT.

At least you can forward through advertisements, so really you're not watching a full 2 hour Smackdown and a full hour NXT. I'm not sure how long the MYC is.

Well here's the kicker. I have the bare minimum service with Hulu so I still get ads and I don't mind the 2-3 ads during NXT as it's usually just hyping up a ppv for 5 seconds. But SD is also shortened by about 30-40 minutes on Hulu. I'm just thinking....I won't start watching any of this until after 730 when my youngest goes to bed so yeah it'll be tough but I'll get through. I usually don't go to bed until around 1:30am, get up around 545am. Been a "light sleeper" damn near all my life so......................lol

I can't remember the last time NXT had a main event that wasn't at least above average. Dream/Gargano was rather nice, especially with little there in terms of build or heat towards the match.

Holy shit, that Ricochet/Dunne match was good. I know there were some folks uncertain if Ricochet could do anything outside of being a spot monkey but I think by now, he's really silenced those concerns.

dunne/richochet was good. dont think it is a top 5 nxt match of this year for me, though.

i know it gets brought up pretty regularly, but fucking hell the crowds, especially at full sail, actively help to lower my enjoyment of a match. within the first 4 minutes of the match we had the same dueling ONE AND ONLY/BRUISER WEIGHT chant three different times, with the final time being a straight minute of it going back and forth without pause. in between those were individual chants for each guy plus a BOTH THESE GUYS chant. hot crowds can make the atmosphere of a match feel electric, but for fucks sake. not every moment needs a chant shoved in. not every moment of silence or downtime needs to be filled with a back and forth. for me, it fucks with the flow of the action and story when nearly every beat is getting the same kind of reaction. for all the complaints of the WWE being overproduced and inorganic, i find it funny that these chants have become so cookie cutter and cliche and manufactured.

Yeah, they definitely over chant. Is it like that in indy feds? Like at All In or ROH, etc.? Is it a smarky fan thing or just a Full Sail crowd thing?

This. I've been able to tune them out before, but here it was absolutely mental. They simply would not stop and it was so bad that it actually made me stop paying attention to the match.

It never gets this way for indie shows so it's definitely a Full Sail thing.

i kind of like the overly-long dueling chants just because sustained crowd noise outside of highspots is so rare in american wrestling these days. at least it's something. i think it added a lot to the mustache mountain/UE tv match. haven't watched dunn/ricochet yet though.

all of that happening in the first four minutes of a 22 minute match, though. sustained crowd noise is great, but i'd rather it be way more noise: hooting, hollering, woo'ing. single dude yelling out YOU SUCK at one of the people in the ring. a constant bubbling murmur is fantastic. these chants and the degree of use feel like the crowd calling spots for themselves in their own version of a match that is running parallel to the one in the ring. it's obnoxious.

NXT does things right with Takeovers but they're really making a case to say they bring it almost every week now with stellar main events.

This isn't true. I have seen plenty of indy shows where it's like that. That's where Full Sail got the attitude from.

That said, I'm with Tainted. I don't really think it's as big of a deal as some of you are making it out to be. Yeah, obnoxious chants are annoying, but extended dueling chants, no matter how early into the match, just make me feel the excitement more. It didn't take away one thing from the match for me, but I suppose I can see how it would be more of a distraction for others.

The reality is, NXT is no different IMO than PWG, Chikara, ROH. That fanbase is who NXT caters to the most, which is why you don't see really any homegrown talent win the belt. Other than Big E and Bo Dallas I can't really think of anyone who has been NXT champion that didn't have that indy buzz going for them. Even Black had it, I knew about Tommy End before he ever signed because of wrestling mags and people online gassing homeboy up.

I'll be shocked if someone like Velveteen ever wins the "World" title.

This was just stupid. I dig the chants, but for fuck's sake it wasn't even flattering. It just felt like what we see happen more often than not and for almost 20+ years thanks to ECW. We fans see some shit being done by other fans and we dig it and try to replicate that shit. Sadly it seems like more and more it's done at the wrong time and/or for too fucking long. It was hard to get into the match at first where they're fucking chain wrestling ala 1937 and the super smarks are chanting obnoxiously. It wasn't even cool.

If this were my friends and I at this show we would have started a "SHUT THE FUCK UP" chant which probably wouldn't have done us any favors but it's better than beating the piss out of a bunch of neckbeards

Still not buying EC3 as a babyface; arrogant, conceited "one percenter" with bacne and an extremely punchable face, don't get it, there's nothing "likeable" about him to me. Similar to back when the mongs in WWE were adamant that Miz should be a babyface.

Love that big Lars got to put the big kabosh on him though. Was EC3 bleeding internally from the slam to the apron or was he busted open from the flying head-butt? Difficult to tell.

Ciampa's tough enough line to Dream was so damn good.

Is it just me or have we hit the point where we need to go ahead and reveal the attacker? It doesn't seem like we need to drag it out further.

Nikki Cross is in my top 5 right now of NXT talent. I wonder why she was on the main roster for a hot minute, even shown front and center for the Evolution announcement.

I agree though, time to reveal. I'm not really that much of a Aliester Black fan so I want to move on. It's time for Dream to carry the strap.

I have to admit when the crowd was chanting "triple threat" when Nikki was out there, i was thinking that sounded like a pretty cool idea and I'm not really a fan of hers.

I agree that the reveal some come sooner than later, the longer you drag it out, it might end with a fizzle rather than a bang.

I know the next Takeover isn't until November 17th. War Games. I bet we get the reveal next week. I mean, how long is this dude out for because I thought he was good to go. This is probably a lot more exciting for big fans of Black and since I'm not really into the character I just want it done and over with.

The worst part will be if it's something lame and they dragged it out just to give us the obvious: Undisputed Era. I could totally see that and then Black's 2 partners would be like Ciampa and Gargano. But what I also don't want is some wild shit just to be wild. Like having it be Keith Lee or NXT's Finest or that dude from TNA and his boys. Lost Boys or whatever the fuck they're called.

I'd be fairly surprised if your scenario played out like it did. I'm under the assumption whatever Black is doing has nothing to do with the title picture or main event picture right now. His focus will be on someone else and that'll create more depth for the eventual Takeover card. If feels fairly apparent we'll get UE vs. BSS vs. Ricochet and War Raiders at WarGames.

With Black...if he's not in the title picture going into the next Takeover then I have a weird feeling the rumor of it being Gargano and/or his wife, might be the route they go. Gives them both a high profile match especially if they're going to build toward Ciampa v. Dream. But they've been putting HUGE matches on NXT t.v. so they might say fuck it and do Ciampa v. Dream on the regular show and maybe do some wild 4-way dance with Ciampa-Black-Dream-Attacker.

Mustache Mountain isn't doing anything with UE. They haven't been on NXT for a few weeks and it might seem awkward for them to suddenly appear but it's pretty easy to connect the dots for why they would come to the side of Dunne if the situation became present. It seems more likely my scenario plays out because they're putting that tag title match between UE and War Raiders on NXT TV within the next week or two. We get a weird finish there, a skirmish breaks out, and you can reincorporate Mustache Mountain.

I have no idea who they'll put as the attacker. Either Gargano's kind of sudden redemption with his match against Neese was taking him out of the attacker equation or a massive red herring. The only way I see a way to make sense (and it's not that great in terms of logic) of it being Gargano is Nikki has been so involved in carrying the story so they could do a mixed tag match or Gargano/Black and Cross/LeRae at Takeover. Doesn't seem like the women's title will be defended at Takeover, or there's no inclination of it so that's why you could break it off into the two singles matches.

I've believed from the start that Lars Sullivan bamboozled Black as revenge for breaking his jaw at TakeOver. Who knows, they should get it over with though, starting to drag a bit.

    @OD50

Lars would be a good choice imo. They need to really do something big with this guy.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, Lars was in the released footage. That's why EC3 called him out and accused him with the logic of the broken jaw stuff. The fact that they did that whole thing makes it seem pretty likely it won't be him. Can't see them going, "Surprise! it was the really obvious culprit that we've already done an angle on being the really obvious culprit!".

Right, what I was saying was Lars would have been a better or ideal culprit if they did NOT already show he was there. If they left that out, Lars comes back, they reveal the actual footage we saw of him leaving...then you've got it made. The fact they showed it, EC3 called him out on it, they had a match, that all makes it seem like they have no interest in revealing Lars as the attacker.

Caught up on some NXT stuff and I have thoughts:

    - Nikki Cross vs. Bianca Belair was better than it had any right to be. I was skeptical of Belair, and didn't really dig the "Sindel from Mortal Kombat" gimmick, but she and Nikki had a barn burner.

    - War Raiders are awesome.

    - The Street Profits vs. The Mighty was a great match, but "The Mighty" is a lame ass name. TM-61 wasn't much better, to be fair.

    - I thought Tony Nese vs. Johnny Gargano was good, but it looked a little sloppy. Nese really lost Gargano when he was going for the tilt-a-whirl into the Garga-No-Escape, and then Nese looked a little rough getting him up for that powebomb.

    - EC3 should absolutely not be a babyface.

    - Lars Sullivan looks like an unintentional 1950's-era throwback. The bald head, the ugly face, the "upside down triangle" body type, and the simple tights and short boots. Its a throwback without being a throwback. He looks like an angry Amish guy.

    - I thought the Tomaso Ciampa vs. Fat Dude from Heavy Machinery match for the NXT Title was great shit. It felt a little "Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Taz - From ECW" in that sort of "nominal tag-team guy gets a title shot for reasons..?" way, but it was a great match. That DDT on the apron was killer and then the DDT back in the ring was great too.

    - That Ricochet/Adam Cole/Pete Dunne match might be one of matches of the year. So damn good.

    - Lacey Evan's gimmick is genius and I don't care what all the feminist wrestling bitches and SJW chuckle fucks have to say about it. If its making you angry; good. That's her job.

I'm thinking it's Ohno who did it.Hope so because he badly needs to go heel. He sucks so hard as a face.

Anyways great episode. Glad to see Bobby Fish back at full health.

He seems pretty much like a heel now with his backstage stuff with Regal and is set up to work with Riddle.

Either way, I hope this is put to bed for good next week. They've dragged this out way too long.

The one bright spot in this storyline though is Nikki. She's played her part tremendously.

But yeah she is great in her role.

Nikki is totally awesome. Such a blessing in disguise that she wasn't called up together with the rest of Sanity. She would've been stuck in the Smackdown lower card by now.

    Welp, there's your answer, fishbulb.

Are we happy with the big reveal? And how do we figure this changes the landscape of NXT?

I suspected Gargano besides Ohno but didn't think they'd actually go through with it.

Read some theories that Gargano didn't do it and it was actually Candace and he's protecting her. That would be an amazing twist!

Why would Candice attack Black? Is there something I can't remember..

If this somehow gives us a couple of heel #DIY matches I'm excited. Ichiban tag-team.

That's whole last segment was done so well. So much going on, and then Black charging to the ring looked fucking badass. I love this show so much.

Disagree. I really dug it. Clearly sounds like a rip-off of one of the best Dr. Dre beats

I wasn't super high on his theme (pun intended) but I bet they will tweak it up as time goes by. Solid show from Matt Riddle. I'm very excited for his WWE run. Aside from his weird mushroom tat on his rib I say the sky is the limit for this guy.

Moving on to Black. I have to say, I wasn't 200% sold on him until the last couple weeks. Seems like this time away was just what he needed, for me at least.

I'm digging the War Games Takeover card so far. The NXT title match is going to be sick.

It's a great looking card, particuĺarly looking forward to the War Games match. Expecting some sick spots in that one with Ricochet involved.

WarGames, Black/Gargano, Ciampa/Dream, Ohno/Riddle and maybe Baszler/Sane in some kind of gimmick match? That's a great card.
