I agree it wasn't five stars because some of the things you mentioned automatically kept it from being that high. That's hyperbole. But I believe there was more to enjoy then hate.
Don't get me wrong, it was a good match, I just highlighted its flaws originally to emphasise just how silly a 5 star award for this match is.

Agree with Badger in that 4 stars would have been more on the money.

I was really hyped up about it watching it live, but can see the slight drawbacks in the cold light of day.

Ciampa really should invest in a a pair of bigger trunks, the ones he's wearing now puts Lex Luger's USA trunks to shame in the extra tight fit department.

I love the fact he was wearing a Johnny Wrestling shirt throughout the attack.

Wonder what type ofvmatch they'll do next? I'd quite like a Falls Count Anywhere.

I thought the ending was sweet. Black laying out all 3 members of Sanity was like watching Goldberg spear the top tier NWO members. And the title picture is looking SWEET. Question though....Who does Black get paired up with before he feuds with Ciampa (my prediction)? Does he do a short run with Lars or will the Undisputed Era and Black throw down? I feel like they could really ride out Black as champion for the rest of the year if they wanted to.

    Black v. Lars
    Black v. Ciampa
    Black v. Cole

That could be the rest of the year. I definitely see the Undisputed Era and Black being the focal point of NXT for some time, no need at all to bring them up to the main roster just yet.

That seems like a relatively viable order in terms of likelihood of opponents. That said, in order from least interesting to most, that's the order I see it too in terms of seeing the matchups. Lars really doesn't do anything for me at all.

Kind of felt like they needed to mark time for a bit on UE but they've gotten back on course for making Cole a big deal (which he is) and give that faction some fangs. Let them run through people for a while and then build to Black versus Cole again.

Just looking at the direction they're going with people it just feels like Lars Sullivan would be a good short term feud opponent while the Gargano-Ciampa stuff finishes out. Then you could even incorporate them with Black and Lars to give the World title picture a little diversity.

I know they were going to have Lars Sullivan challenge for the belt at a TakeOver event not too long ago.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I think it'd be cool if someone from the main roster showed up in NXT and challenged Black.

I don't understand why they aren't using Tyler Bate and Trent Seven in the roles of Burch and Lorcan for this feud. Can we not get British Strong Style vs. Undisputed Era?

Bianca is main roster ready right now. I know it won't happen for a while as NXT needs good women to help the division, but she coulr move up tomorrow and not look out of place whatsoever.

If they really want to kick up this Gargano/Ciampa feud up a notch, have Ciampa start creeping on LeRae.

He looks like someone combined the looks of the Rock and John Morrison.. but didn't bother to give him any of the charisma or skill.

Kona Reeves is a weird one. This gimmick doesn’t look like it’s going to work at all, but perhaps it’s a last chance type thing for him before he’s released. Only NXT doesn’t usually do that and you’d think a tag team would work better for him if they don’t have anything worthwhile for a singles push.

He actually reminds me of Hiromu Takahashi, without the charisma or skill and with a shitty non-fitting gimmick to boot.

He's pretty damn awesome. No entrance music kind of adds to it, feels like Bad News Brown or something back in the day. Those damn super tight skimpy trunks though.. I really don't need to see 50% of his butt cheeks every match, it was probably up around 75% during the TakeOver NOLA match.

Had to Google "Chad Lail", had no idea it was Gunner. Really don't like his current NXT look, he looks like a cross between Sami Zayn and Zack Ryder. Back when I watched TNA he had a really great look, like a bonafide superstar. Now just kind of generic.

    Man, I love Heavy Machinery.

Also I don't know if that's what they're doing, but the concept of Nikki Cross "mentoring" Kai against Bazler is just the best.

I agree, but sadly, I don't see him being treated any differently on the main roster... I just don't think they see him as anything other than a "good hand".

I'm going to an NXT live event this weekend and I'm pretty annoyed that neither Aleister Black nor Adam Cole are advertised to be there. You'd think they would take two of their top stars on the road with them.

Yeah, they're both advertised. I'm assuming they're the main event. That'll be cool. My buddy and I are both big Aleister and Cole fans, though. He's not overly familiar with Ricochet, but we're both big Dream fans.

KO's role in NXT is fine. It won't work at all on the main roster.

This week's episode was pretty good. The 6 man tag was great, as you'd expect it to be.

I can't get into Ricochet. His matches are way too choreographed to seem like a fight.

that's my main issue with him and will osperay. it's all very athletically impressive but all the heart and drama is missing. it does work fantastically well in multi-man matches or gimmick matches that can utilize high spots, which is why almost everything he did in the NA title ladder match was great.

I know they've apparently been killing it on house shows, Velveteen Dream and Ricochet. If the groundwork was established last night, that should be a really fun feud.

I'm starting to wonder if Cross being held back was just to finish a feud with Baszler and then they'll debut as a full group on the main roster.

I'm with you guys here. I couldn't take his matches w/ Offspray seriously because of how much they made their matches look like a dance-off than a fight. There are moments where they're full on helping each other do their moves and looking at the other like "Why did you just hit me in the face? How could you do such a thing?" Don't get me wrong I think their work was magnificent on an athletic level, but as a simulation of a fight... it wasn't for me. A wise dude once told me that the beauty of wrestling isn't making you believe that it's real... it's to make you forget that it's not. Ricochet/Offspray reminded us that it's not real.

Ricochet's work in NXT has been great so far. I have enough faith in the peeps backstage that they will tweak his formatting so that his matches are actually matches. Look at what Seth Rollins is now.

I can see the concern but it's hard to imagine Hunter and the rest of the NXT are interested in him doing Ricochet/Osprey matches. If this week's episode is any kind of indicator, they'll do well by adding substance and layers getting to the match and then actually merge what he does best and what WWE/NXT do best in terms of storytelling in the ring.

I really enjoyed the couple of minutes we got of Ricochet/Dream. Excited to see them get more time together down the road.
Also, i haven't seen much of Ricochet prior to NXT, only a few Prince Puma matches and a highlight/tribute video or two, so I haven't had a chance to sour on his style yet and am still super hyped about the guy. I can see how a person might not dig the contrived moves, I know it's something that turned me off to Mysterio, but I dig watching some of the CW guys who do flippity shit, so who knows. Ricochet's also got the advantage of being fucking gorgeous.

For the last 10 years or so the WWE has finally been able to go from butchering someone's moveset to basically slowing it down or adding to it to help the character. A guy like Ricochet can do it all, he just needs to slow it down and pick his spots in the WWE/NXT. As the style of wrestling evolved, so has the WWE. We still have room for the Lars Sullivan-Braun Strowman type move sets but damn the speed, the impact, it's all evolved.

Just like movies. Go watch a John Wayne action movie and then watch an action movie today. The action itself. It evolved.

Serious question. Is there a better heel on the WWE/NXT roster than Ciampa right now? Other heels get their cool pops and havingGargano as the opponent helps, but Ciampa incites pure hatred. Having no music helps him tremendously too. I'd like to see how he does as a heel once he gets past Gargano.

I agree! I really liked the character and look he had in TNA! I haven't had a chance to follow NXT too closely lately and just realized it was him today when reading the main page here

I like that NXT has started to showcase Pete Dunne more and more but damn it's crazy to think he's a year into his run and has really only had 1 feud which is happening right now. The guy is magic in the ring.

The NXT live event I went to on Sunday was probably the best wrestling show I've ever attended. Every match and segment delivered. Velveteen Dream and Ricochet killed it in the main event. Velveteen is just so awesome right now.

Ricochet/Dream on the house shows seems to get pretty rave reviews all around, looking forward to seeing them on television. Hopefully Ricochet learns to temper his flippy flop shit though.

Funnily enough Vanessa Borne's birthday was a few days ago. But Stephanie Newell is someone I'm not familiar w/ either.

Is Lars Sullivan in line for a huge push? I feel he's another Snitsky type, will have big impact on his debut in the main roster then fizzle out as a jobber.

I honestly don't have a lot of matches to base my opinion of Ricochet on. I saw the first season of Lucha Underground and that's really it. Highlights and shit of a lot of matches but that's really it. But it definitely looked like he slowed it down and as I said not too long ago, that's something the WWE has improved upon. Instead of watering down someone, they are figuring out a way to have the wrestler scale back on banging out 200 moves in 4 minutes and make it all mean something.

I love high spots and big moves when they are done at the right time. Pulling off movz just for the sake of pulling off movz pisses me off, that's why I very, very rarely watch any wrestling outside of NXT these days.

Seth seems to be a guy right now who flirts with going over the line at times, but I think he knows how to really come off hot when its time for him to go. It's like when a guy hits the combo button in a video game. You can do it whenever and it might be cool, but if you use strategy and time it just right, it maximizes the impact. Seth kind of just has a set of moves that really comes off extremely well and fits his character but he's not just going all over the place. He's got a very sharp sense of timing.

Once again the match I was looking most forward to wasn’t shown.

Lars got a big babyface response at the live event I attended. He destroyed that Kona Reeves dude on multiple occasions and people loved it.

Oh, and Shayna Baszler mean mugged the shit out of my friend and I. That was pretty funny.

Seems like a notable omission. Especially for the fact if the match that aired tonight was listed in here, people probably would have been more inclined to watch.

If you are not sold on Ricocte after that then wrestling has nothing left to give you.

Yeah Ricochet was way better in that episode. A feud with the Dream will do that.

Nikki Cross yelling "DAKOOOOOTA! DAKOOOOOOTA! YUUR DA REFEREEEEE!" is NXT moment of the year so far. Whatever they're paying her isn't enough.

Also that segment on Bianca Belair now has me sold on her. Why don't they do these kind of things on the main roster? They're so simple but so effective.

And how about the NXT title being like the 5th most captivating feud at the moment?

Ricochet front flipping out of the ring was...

Imagine if he'd messed that up?

Yeah, I love it when they focus on one person for a little so that we can see who they are and where they've come from. You'd think the main roster wrestlers have no time at all to set time aside w/ a film crew to do a piece like that... but then you look at their social media and they're going on vacations in between gym sets.

I'm just trying to figure out the end game for Kassius Ohno. He never really has anything going on. He's kind of like that Perfect 10 dude was for a long long time and then right before he was called up they gave him some throwaway weird feud with Sanity that I never really understood.

I just feel like the guy is wasting away in NXT if they're going to just him fuck around the midcard of a developmental t.v. show.

To me, it's always seemed like he's a nice guy to have for a match that's going to build someone else up, but his primary value to the brand is being an active performer who probably does much coaching/teaching on a day in, day out basis.

He simply continues making good money to help their future stars develop. End game.

I don't see Lars Sullivan beating Aleistar Black. I think this is just a quick feud while they build someone up to face Black, maybe Ciampa?

I'd be curious to hear if he does any coaching. The guy is incredibly talented.

I mean, it'd be silly if NXT wasn't using his ability to mentor people as a benefit to them. Even if they're not implicitly asking him to do so, he can easily show up, people know who he is, and they'll ask for advice. Seems like he's a nice enough guy to offer help if someone genuinely asks for it. From everything I've heard or read, it's what we see in today's schools: a lot of students and not enough teachers. In this case, the performers in the PC are susceptible towards not getting enough one-on-one time to really develop at a rate that could be beneficial to everyone. If that's the case, someone like Ohno is a valuable asset.

In terms of the money, that's purely up to him in terms of what good money is.

Doubtful it's Ciampa, at least on the surface. Seems like it'd be silly to build to a second large match between Ciampa and Gargano, only to have Ciampa lose both. So that will lead to a blowoff match, meaning someone else needs to be a contender for Black.
