Saw on the main page that Monet vs Gonzalez is no longer going ahead tonight. No details as to why.

Just bring Keith Lee back and give him the fucking title.

Also, the new graphic does look very 90s.

    Clean. To a debuting guy.

Breaker is your top guy now, I’d say. Add him to the title match and have him beat the old guys.

Its one thing that they want to "relaunch" the brand or whatever, but PLEASE stop calling it "NXT 2.0" and especially get it off the graphics.

    This is not good.

Sarray looks like to be the best wrestler in this match by a country mile. Gigi Dolan is horrible.

"2.0" was a fine, completely watchable WWE show with a fun sports-entertainment main event.

I started watching in the middle of the women's tag match (still had the TV on USA from the night before when I turned it on). Not sure how I feel about Mandy being a brunette, but at least they're letting her be the powerhouse she should have been on the main roster and just throwing women around the ring. Wasn't planning on watching the rest of the show, but when they said that the wedding was coming up, I had to see it. One of the better wedding segments in recent years. A million times better than Lashley and Lana.

The overall feel I got from the production was old fashioned studio wrestling. It reminded me of the shows WCW did in the 90's with the sci-fi entrance doors.

Some of these names were cracking me up:

    - Gigi Dolin = J.J. Dillan
    - Von Wagner = Van Hammer

Rose Garden was right there and I'd give it to them for free.

He was also at the bachelor party last week. He's one of Dexter's homies.

    ----

I like the new set a lot and the new color scheme/vibe is fine with me.

Bron Breakker an absolute garbage name. The look of the dude was straight 80s which wasn't my jam but he looked pretty good in ring and the surprise win was cool. With LA Knight losing here I thought maybe it was a way to throw you on him winning the title later but nerp.

I've already expressed being unimpressed with Briggs before but his partner didn't fare any better in my eyes. Looked bland and did nothing memorable. Crowd seemed to be booing the new guys in this one, too. Meh to the whole thing.

Nice to see B-Fab actually have a match though it wasn't much. Neckbreaker was good. Really good promo exchange later on. This stable war continues to be fire.

Now Trick Williams is a damn good name. And he's a hunk. and he can talk. Nice. Not sure if Hayes was turning here since they were beating up an established heel in Hudson but it definitely added some of what was missing from Hayes previously so I'm digging it. Be interesting to see if these guys are going to be a tag team and go for those belts or if Hayes will still go for singles gold.

All the women's tag stuff leading to the six-woman tag and everything was pretty good. Mandy's new look is great, much better in my opinion. Crowd was chanting "this is awesome" so something was really working for them in this match because it wasn't really a great match so I guess they're just really into the feud? They're not wrong, it is a pretty good feud.

Maverick took that squash from Holland like a goddamn champ.

Holy shit, that mobster dude is the most dime-a-dozen stereotype shit. Wow. Boo.

The Creed brothers are fun as hell to watch. Ivy Nile looks like a killer and I can't wait to see her in the ring soon. Diamond Mine's on the up and up.

I have to say I popped HARD for KOR getting taken out of the title match. The wrestling gods must have noticed my virgin blood rituals. Now that I see the name Cal Bloom I recognize it as someone WWE was supposedly high on but two things: Von Wagoner is another god-awful name (and actually sounds pretty similar to Bron Breakker when you say them back to back) and he looks bland and also didn't do much to catch my attention during the match. But hey, I appreciate them trying to get the new guys right out there in the big spotlight. And they did have me a couple times where I thought the dude might win it. But I did start realizing as the match went on that Ciampa was probably going to take it as they were really focusing a lot more on him going into it. And i was very much on board as I've become a bigger fan of his as of late so I popped for the win. Seems like they've swapped out grizzled vet Joe with grizzled vet Ciampa at the helm and I'm behind it and can dig Breakker stepping right up.

OH MY GOD THE WEDDING. It was fucking EVERYTHING. Incredible. Perfection. So many characters, my boy Ikemen Jiro!, everyone playing the part perfectly, so much great comedy, Dex talking for the first time, they actually tied the knot! This is the wholesome content we need during the unprecedented times. Absolute loved it. Made me happy.

Yeah, so all in all, NXT 2.0 isn't too bad so far.

I'm fairly sure Brons look was a homage to his dad and had little to do with the 80s.

Thought I'd give it a whirl. Last time I was watching regularly, NXT was still clearly the best WWE-produced show but I found it stale in many ways so I'm interested in a rebrand to freshen things up even if Vince is more involved this time around.

First off, the names really are terrible. Seem more arbitrary than ever. And I've always hated the idea of renaming second generation talent so that they inexplicably have a different surname to their famous parent (although I don't think they actually mentioned the Steiners or Bull Buchanan here). Changing "Rex Steiner" to "Bron Breakker" is such a bad move.

Bron himself was actually impressive though and it looks like they'll be pushing him right off the bat. The Creed Brothers are really great to watch as well. I like Ridge Holland (and his theme) from before. I wasn't particularly taken by Jensen, Briggs, Williams, Hudson or Wagner yet. Or the two new-ish women in the tag match. The B-Fab/Lopez exchange was decent. Ivy Nile has a great look. Don't think Tony De Angelo will last long based off that vignette.

Wedding was a blast. I saw a few bits from this angle at the time but I'd have liked to have followed it more closely. Looks like a lot of fun.

I like the brighter new look, overall. The roster now feels like it's made up of two quite distinct groups. A new generation of mostly <30 or so WWE made talent and the older >35 year old veterans who spent longer elsewhere. Now that the brand is clearly being treated more like traditional developmental again, it'll be interesting to see how many of that older group (Ciampa, Joe, Strong, Lumis, Kushida, Thatcher etc.) survive. I think they should keep most of them around to work with the younger names, personally.

Somebody in Stamford failed to spend 30 seconds on Google, where they would have found out that there is a pro hockey player named Tony DeAngelo.

These shitty names have Vince’s fingerprints all over them…

They did kind of reference Rick by saying Bron was like a dog faced gremlin.

Who was related to Bull? I noticed the Beverly Brothers son.

Brooks Jensen = Ben Buchanan. His dad came out of retirement and they teamed together for a bunch of indy dates over the last couple of years.

This was a strangely booked show at times. LA Knight losing in the opening match to the Breaker Not Steiner bloke before having to compete in the title match. Maybe that’s just a part of them pushing development strong now I don’t know. Wagner bloke just getting a title match for making a save on KOR? (Did think of you mth when that happened! ) Personally would have preferred Dunne to take the title but I guess Ciampa getting “Goldie” back is cool for now as he’s a vet that can work with the newer talent.

LOVED the wedding too plus being eight months ago for Theory was coming back! The objections, “John Gargano”, Odyssey Jones/Andre Chase, Beth stepping in and Dexter FINALLY SPEAKS and the pop he got! Amazing way to have a happy ending.

Ahh yes, should have put two and two together.

Watched NXT for the first time in forever.

Rex Steiner getting the Ruthless Aggression John Cena treatment with Ciampa taking the role of the Undertaker.

Grumpy old man vs Young Whipper Snappers of NXT is a great meta storyline. Samoa Joe would have been great as a final boss though.

Wedding Segment was great lot of fun.

The Trick promo segment made no sense to me seems like they missed a few beats but then sexy squidward came out and they attacked him which confused me because it sounded like they were faces but then they attacked a heel to turn heel? Also fuck who ever had a match with that guy because that match was thrown out and the wedding went into overrun so I guess that was lucky.

The new guys with the weird names just seemed like someone booted up a new game of 2k20.

NXT 2.0 is basically just a brighter AEW dark. I can't see myself watching again except for takeovers but we will see how long that lasts.

The color scheme just reminds me of this

I too will stick to TakeOvers. I won't even bother with last night's, I don't think.

If Dunne had taken the title, I may have checked this out. Ciampa seems like a step back a bit, despite the fact I think he's fantastic.

I'll keep an eye on results and will give it a watch if it looks like it's getting interesting again.

Very shocked with Ciampa getting the win.

Mandy Rose....why are we so blessed?

When I saw that they changed Steiner's name I was thinking MAYBE there were some legal issues with using the last name since it's not really their last name. IDK. Then I remembered Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Bray Wyatt, The Usos, etc. Very few get to be Randy Orton or Dom Mysterio.

I must have been not paying attention during the zombie last week. And blanked on before.

I was surprised by the choice of Ciampo, but it was a pleasant surprise. Ciampo is in the right spot, on the right brand. He can legitimize anyone, and this is potentially a good storyline. Let Ciampo see what he can get out of the kid, do the thing where he falls just short because of veteran wiles, and if the kid earns it....give him the eventual win and put the jetpack on him and see where it goes.

    Many with dark hair....who knew?

Enjoying the work of Hit Row and Diamond Mine. Solid factions.

Hate the color scheme being thrown everywhere (names, rings, etc). It feels so fucking forced, and trying too hard.

And something that someone out of touch feels like "will resonate with the kids"

Do any of us know what the youth want? Unless they tell us, I have no clue. If I booked wrestling based on what my 10 year old daughter was into it would look like what we saw last night only we would need more SniperWolf and Just Jordan.

If Corbin was still broke, he could’ve tagged with him and been Bin Raker

He could’ve also just wrecked the joint, ruined the big screen for entrance videos and been Tron Breaker

Tagged him with LA Knight and they’d be the NXT LA Lakers 2.0 (NXT and 2.0 to avoid copyright)

None of us do. Which I think is important self-awareness, and a reason you need to occasionally outsource and focus some of this shit. Or just don't overfocus on speaking to the demographic.

Kids to me means anyone who still qualifies to be on their parents' insurance. Sadly, its even to the point where I've had to replace my Council of Millennials with a Council of GenZ. The millennials are already obsolete.

You kids these days. Playing your NFL2k games on your xboxes while listening to your Avril Lavigne albums on your Sony Walkmans. All while drinking your Zima alcohols and watching your TRL.

I can't keep up with it.

More seriously, I'm just fucking around nitpicking the graphics, overall I liked the show and relieved some apprehensiveness about the "new direction"

I think Rex Steiner sounds too much like their name Rechsteiner, so if he leaves the company, it's pretty easy to just use his surname and it sounds like his WWE name. With all the people going to AEW lately and being able to use their names, I think WWE is going back into the mindset of being overly protective of their IP.

I don't really see any difference in the name changes. They did get a little relaxed with talent that had a big buzz outside of WWE like Adam Cole, Samoa Joe, but it wasn't that long ago when Kevin Steen became Kevin Owens either. Also, I think the talent on a level of a Bronson Rechsteiner getting a name change is par for the course.

They'll keep tweaking it I'm sure. It seems like every few years they revamp NXT and what it's representing. Personally I wish they didn't put NXT on USA. I get why they did it, but it also doesn't leave much room to have the ability to change not just the set, but the talent if need be without the "I hate WWE but I'll still criticize the product" fans chirping.

The policy changed when Joe came in. AJ Styles, Ricochet, Karl Anderson, most of the Cruiserweight classic guys, the uk guys, Mae young girls, etc all got to keep their real or pre-WWE names. Before that the only person to keep their own name was DAVID OTUNGA of all people. Everyone else had to get a WWE name since right about 2005.

Yeah but post Joe we still had guys like Aleister Black, Dexter Lumis, Cameron Grimes, Karrion Kross, etc. they didn't go by those names prior to signing with the WWE. So even then we had some established guys from TNA and other places still having to change their name.

You literally just quoted me saying I got the homage to his dad which was after saying he looked like he was from the 80s. I don't want to yell at you but do I have to put everything in all caps for you to grasp that I GOT ALL THAT? I said Rawley because he was recent and the guy had a similar haircut/goatee/build and bright colored gear. But of course my immediate thought was that his gear was retro Rick Steiner inspired.

Yupp. It really depended non the person and the name, but prior to Joe, no one got to keep their name, aside form like I said, David Otunga, who is still employed by WWE.

I have to know what he has on the mcmahons. It's gotta be good.

lol. Peacock isn't fun but I'd rather it be there than on USA where the expectations are beyond what developmental truly can offer. The conversation becomes totally different when presenting this show. That's why we saw Charlotte Flair and Finn Balor down there, that's why they tried to make the women's tag titles tri-brand before creating their own.

That's why I never bought into the idea that it was just going to be young talent nobody knows to be crafted and molded from the start ala OVW and pretty much every other form of developmental they've had. IDK if I would consider ECW and USWA "developmental" like OVW was, those companies were more like what we've seen with NXT over the last 5-6 years. So maybe we'll see more of a USWA vibe. The PC is the true developmental just like the Trax back in the 90's.

Stephanie was probably a big fan of Jennifer Hudson. I remember Otunga being on that show I Love New York. But he didn't go by his real name.

Otunga was hired after CM Punk.

wwe clamped down on names in 2005/6 starting with the ECW relaunch, hence Marcus Cor Von and Braden Walker's names.

After that, the only person I know of who got to keep a previous or shoot name is David Otunga....until Hunter in NXT started letting big name indie/Japan/impact guys keep their name and license it to WWE.

I believe WWE is now going back to the old policy of owning every name outright. No more licensing deals.

Big opportunity missed by never having Tailor made and New york in mixed tag match with Hudson and Otunga.

I enjoyed last night's show similar in the way of the first network-available NXT show goes back to. This feels different as you have more established faces on the brand than before, or at least to my knowledge. A little too bright but I like that you can still see the audience during the matches. Some hits, some misses. Having Ciampa as title holder is well deserved, but necessary? I wonder what happens of Thatcher now.

Thought a few weeks ago when Odyssey was in the tournament, I'd love to see him and Top Dolla as a tag team down the road.

On the subject of the Mandy reveal, while still hot of course I was kinda hoping for something more shocking like a short haircut to put the message across that she was cutting ties (like Dagger in FF9 which maybe Psycho and other FF geeks would get the ref) but the big reveal just to show she just dyed her hair was just meh really.

On the note of Top Dolla, I’d rather him keep him where he is just now and have him and Odyssey go one on one down the road. Top Dolla will be big one day (and Odyssey too) but keep them as is just now.

I'd halfway agree with her assessment.

Seems like a good amount of guys in NXT would be up your alley now.

The only part of the last show I didn't care for was this Von Wagner bullshit. I must have completely tuned this guy out because his profightdb page says he has appeared on some WWE programming but holy shit he's only had 1 victory in his career.................

But worthy of being in the NXT title match. Solely based on coming to see if Kyle was ok lol. Thank God the rest of the show had way more to offer.

My son and I are convinced the next big tag-team are the Creed Brothers. No doubt about it.

Is it just me or does LA Knight have something wrong with his mouth? I don't know how to explain it other than just watch him talk, it's like his mouth opens all the way to his fucking ears.

I never got far enough in FF9 so see that, lol. However, Mandy already did that on the main roster after Sonya took a pair of scissors to her locks. I'm sure most of it is extensions now and could be taken out, but Mandy's been a blond for the entirety of her time in WWE so the color change is more of a statement than short hair.

Just to clarify, the meh was more directed towards the story, not her hair which is fabulous!

It’s a nice tribute to past final fantasys sort of getting back to their medieval roots after the more technologically advanced in FFVII and Final Fantasy VIII.

    Vivi is the man!

To answer your question, Dagger cutting hair means cutting her emotional ties holding her back kinda thing.

I hate that it's still being referred to as NXT 2.0

1.0 Rookies, Mentors, Challenges with dumb obstacle courses
2.0 Said rookies rebel with Bryan choking out Justin Roberts with a tie leading to a firing then rehiring but that’s another story. But yeah other than that it’s proper farming brand
3.0 Treated like a third brand with some importance bringing in top international and independent talent…

Now…let’s hit the brakes on that and go back to farming but with purdy colours.

Maybe 2.1 is more accurate lol.

The opening segment had some promise but think it got too convoluted by the end of it. Felt kind of lazy because they had guys out there just be out there.

Thought KUSHIDA/Strong was pretty good but it missed that next gear to take it up a notch. Made sense that Strong wasn't going to win clean and there were just too many odds stacked against the champ. Ivy looked good with her physicality. I like the idea of someone coming out to immediately challenge the champion but Waller doesn't strike me as a solid first option. Point is probably moot because I imagine Strong will hold the gold for a good bit of time.

I won't lie, I chuckled at Barrett's oral skills joke in regards to Lumis. That was just one of a few examples where NXT may be trying to get a little more edgy. When the competition is handing out s-bombs like they're mints, you've got to do something lol.

Elektra is certainly holding her own as a character. I like her.

Toxic Attraction needed to have the promo time to establish themselves. The overall aesthetic works but not really sure they delivered to a top-notch promo but it was serviceable.

Pretty fun main event. Breakker certainly fits into the main event picture much more comfortably than Von Wagoner lol. Holland is a big slab of meat, so the fact that Breakker can move him around relatively easy is impressive (good on Holland to bump well for him too). If there's going to be an immediate success story for the 2.0 era, it's going to be Breakker. However, it is beyond dumb that he has the name he has while wearing what he wears and uses a Steiner Recliner lol.

There are going to be a LOT of vignettes, it appears. That certainly harkens back to the earlier versions of NXT (there's more than just the 1.0 lol). That really puts on the onus on the unproven talent and creative to string together some positive momentum. I'm interested to see how it all takes shape. There's going to be a lot of trial and error but the decision makers better make sure they're listening to what is and isn't resonating with the audience in front of them.

Figured that was common knowledge. His work is terrific. Glad to hear he's a solid dude about it, good stuff. Maybe I'll get something from him down the line.

    ----

Damn, there's so many new faces on NXT. Doing my best to keep up on everybody. Definitely feels like a lot of testing things out and seeing how it goes with different folks and characters. Suddenly Joe Gacy's doing this "safe spaces" gimmick when he was a dark broody dude a couple weeks ago, etc. I appreciate them trying to give people characters and vignettes/promo time to establish them. As I've said about a lot of guys in NXt past, there's a lot of good wrestlers with no characters so it's nice to see them trying to lean more into folks having personalities, even if some of them are kind of lame or whatever (Briggs/Jensen or the mobster doofus).

Opening segment first seemed like ti was setting up a battle royal for the title shot, I thought, with me expecting Breakker to win but then it turned out it was just to set up a tag match and a bunch of people were mostly out there just to be bodies. Good promo from Ciampa, though, to really sell the new NXT and rally folks behind it.

Kushida/Strong was fine but nothing special and I thought it was pretty clear Strong was gong to win as Diamond Mine are on the up and up. Nice to see Ivy do a thing, really looking forward to her getting in the ring, she does some insane stuff on her Insta.

Definitely seemed like they were jumping right into that TV-14 and the stuff Bert posted above as there was tons of swearing throughout the show including bleeped f-bombs and it seemed like Toxic Attraction were showing off their goods more than previously and the camera was focusing on Mandy's figure. Also "oral skills". Heh. Nice. The honeymoon next week is going to be something...

Elektra has fit into Legado really nicely and the feud with Hit Row continues to be very good. Match wasn't much to talk about, though.

Toxic Attraction promo was pretty by the numbers and there's definitely room for improvement on the mic for all fo them but it did what it needed to do.

JIROOOOoooo! Happy to see my dude Jiro get a vignette to establish him and seems to point that he'll be getting more TV time going forward which makes me happy. He's a goddamn ray of sunshine.

    Jones handicap squash was fun.
Chen did the Wing Clipper? And Baxter's going to be have something like Nikki ASH's gimmick it sounds like.
Gacy's new character could be good if they handle it right, like he presents himself as this safe peacemaker type but he's actually fucking deranged.

Main event was good. Breakker is pretty impressive in ring and MY GOD does he sound exactly like Scott Steiner on the mic. I get the look but I don't like the look and the name still sucks but otherwise, I'm digging him. The finisher to Holland was impressive-ish but not as much as they were trying to sell it as. I assume the title match with Ciampa is coming sooner than later and I would not be shocked if he takes it to really hammer home the new era is here.

While NXT is ok, it really feels like it's back to square one w/ a lot of folks. Introducing us to a bunch of new faces that pale in comparison and don't look too appealing IMO. Like the fire has been put out and now we wait for it to grow again.

    Eh.

After watching nxt last week, I did not watch again this week. I did see videos for ikeman jiro, Andre chase, that tag team, and Tony gabagool on YouTube. This is the good stuff. I love all the weird characters just suddenly showing up.

Of course the idea was to reference something from the 80s and 90s in regards to Andre Chase lol.

It's also funny that it appears McMahon finally found someone to take the Mighty Mouse gimmick he's wanted to utilize in the form of Trey Baxter.
