Off to see this with my mom. It's our new bi-annual tradition to see these at Christmas. She was pissed at the last one with the death of Han. She already made me lie to her and made me promise no one else would die.

I quiet liked the Last Jedi I would put it behind A New Hope and Empire as my favourite of the series. Not sure why it's getting the hate it currently is.

    From what I read/hear it's mostly because
Personalty I'm not enamored with the movie either but for other reasons. I quite enjoyed the two points mentioned above.

    Regarding those two points

Another thing that seems to get a lot of hate is the no sound shot I actually thought that was one of the best scenes in the movie.

I just seen that tons of theaters are posting signs telling audience members what to expect. Apparently people were getting up and complaining the sound went out at their showing.

Didn't the sound "go out" when Jango dropped those seismic charges on OWK back in the day? Can't remember anyone complaining.

When I saw this a couple of weeks ago I was in a pretty dour mood after a stressful week, which probably affected how I felt about it.

Now that I'm in holiday mode, I might go see it again today and see what I think.

Everyone was asleep by that point in Episode II. No one noticed.

Coming in on this thread blind having seen VIII earlier today, so apologies if you've heard this before. First thoughts:
    Main theme of film

    Leia/Luke

    Kylo/Rey

    Phasma

    Random observations

Watched this night. I really enjoyed the movie.

I thought the humor was a bit overboard. I enjoyed it but they could have cut a lot of it out honestly.

Well, I liked it more. The main parts of the story that I didn't originally like now felt more like twists that circumvented predictability.

There's still two things I disliked

There was gravity inside the bomber and once the bombs started moving there was no stopping them?

They were definitely propelled out of a ship that had gravity within so they would continue that motion once they hit space.

    That's what I figured, since...

But the official guidebook explains the technical aspects...

Which is an unimportant detail, really. Much like the lightsaber, I don't need to know how it works. I just assume that there's a thing that makes it work...

Well yeah, same. It's not an gripe with the film, it was just a "waiiiiit a minute" passing thought.

I watched TFA three times (third time was only because my brother wanted to see it in some IMAX, 3D, Dolby whatever thing..) in the cinema and Rogue One twice. After two weeks I still have no urge whatsoever to go watch TLJ again.. Bummer.

Not arguing on whether TLJ is good or not, but that might have more to do with the fact that there have been 3 Star Wars movies out in the cinema in the last two years and you've been to the cinema 6 times to see Star Wars in that same period.

I enjoyed The Last Jedi just as much as The Force Awakens, but I can already feel Star Wars fatigue setting in. Will be interesting how many times we all go to see Solo.

I try to remain free of fan expectation stuff, but I’ll admit I'd like this film a lot more if Luke had his green lightsaber. I wish he would’ve been unleashed like Vader was in Rogue One!

I thought it should be his green though. That was my only real beef with that scene. Rey had the blue one, and it was broken in half by the time of the showdown. He clearly had the green one when he was going to kill Kylo. It still bugs me. It should’ve been a tip off to Kylo, and I feel like they should’ve written the scene with Luke's ROTJ lightsaber so that no one, audience or Ren, would have any reason to think something was off. Why? Because Kylo was there when Anakin's saber was destroyed. So wouldn't have Kylo noticed in the moment and realized something was off? What significance does that saber hold that his green one doesn't? He used his green saber all the way from Return of the Jedi to the night that Kylo burned down the temple. It's the only saber that Kylo has seen him use. I keep seeing posts about “the first clue was his feet didn’t leave marks, the big hint was the lightsaber.”

So @Venom axe you seem to have noticed every minor detail except for the fact kylo was iut of his mind with rage for killing Luke. Do you really think a man in his right mind would stop everything and command an entire fleet to fire on one person? Kylo was panicked and became absolutely desperate. The moment kylo should have known something was up was when an entire army, capable of penetrating mountains and steel blasted Luke and his robe didn t even have a scorch mark on it. Instead kylo took the bait and went to fight him. His rage and lust cost him.

You notice how Leia didnt take the dice with her? Did you not wonder why she left those as they were a lasting memory of the one love of her life? Because she had the patience and the frame of mind to know Luke wasn't there.

Remember, the dark side clouds everything.

The Green Light Saber was also left behind when the Temple is destroyed. A friend of mine pointed out that the blue lightsaber has Obi-wan's hilt and Kylo never saw Old Man Luke, he remembers the Luke he sees in front of him.

all of this. plus you can surmise that the green saber is a manifestation of luke at his weakest moment as a Jedi and a source of shame.

Never thought of it that way, but it makes sense. It seems he goes out of his way to look like what Ben last remembered him as so you’d think he’d go with the green saber in that case. But the reasoning for bringing the blue back works. That’s a minor nitpick, but just kind of bothered me since Kylo witnessed the destruction of that lightsaber.

I just saw this. Didn't really care for it. I don't know exactly why. I can't point at any one thing and say "that, that's why I didn't like it."

I was bored. Maybe it's Star Wars fatigue but I was bored from about 20 minutes into it until the very end. Didn't make me want to see another one.

Yeah I'll probably check it out again when it comes to DVD/streaming. Hopefully it's better the second time around.

So when do we think we'll get a trailer for Solo?

The first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War came out in November which is a film from Disney that is also out in May 2018. Do we think Disney is maybe going to announce a different release date?

I think they are kind of stuck with May now because of the whole issue of swapping out directors. If they were to move the release date now, it would just get more people worried that this film is gonna stink.

Saying that Deadpool 2 has just moved to May 2018 too, so they might use that as an excuse to move it.

The Super Bowl is in a couple of weeks. If they are going to stick with this release date I'm fairly certain we will se the first trailer then.

    Supposedly coming out Monday.

Read a bit about the 2nd half of Rebels season and it is going to be very sad. Definitely going to be interested in how it all goes down for Kanan, Ezra and especially Asoka.

I finally saw The Last Jedi. I managed to stay spoiler free. It was good, I'll post some more comments later but one question

Did Poe and Rey not meet in TFA? when he was like 'hey I'm Poe nice to meet you' I was scratching my chin.

It did seem odd that in that time from when they returned after blowing up Starkiller base until she left that they didn't once cross paths. Especially when they both would have wanted to make sure Finn was ok and visited his hospital pod.

Finally saw it this past weekend and absolutely loved it. Most fun I've had in a Star Wars movie since Return of the Jedi. For a 2.5hr movie, I thought the pacing was great. Lots of humour, good action sequences with light sabre battles and tie fighters and snowalkers! Dam, I might actually go see it again.

The teaser last night was way better than the trailer today. The music and logo do not give off a Star Wars vibe. I'm going in with very low expectations.

I don't want to be negative, so I'll reserve full judgement until I see the movie. If the side stories just give us cool shots of Star Destroyers moving, I can find peace with that.

game of thrones showrunners are announced to be heading up another new trilogy in the star wars universe.

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/02/...ar-wars-movies

no details, but a comment from disney CEO bob iger was interesting.

"They are focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology and taking it from there."

i can't help but think this'll be the old republic.

So, episode IX coming up next year along with Solo this year, then Kenobi and probably something like Yoda or Boba Fett stand-alones. Along with that there's a new trilogy by Rian Johnson and another trilogy by the GoT peeps. Along with that there's also several Star Wars tv-series planned for the upcoming Disney streaming service. I'm guessing there will be some cartoon to take the reigns after Clone Wars and Rebels as well.

So, are we nearing major Star Wars overkill? Like mentioned earlier, I didn't really like TLJ and never had any need whatsoever to go watch it again like I did Rogue One and TFA.

We knew they were going to milk Star Wars like it was a four titted beast on the side of a cliff...
If the movies are good, keep them coming...

Personally, I don't care for Rogue One that much beyond the ending battle scene, and I think The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars film since Empire...

I'm honestly pretty tentative about Han Solo/Kenobi/etc films and more looking forward to Episode IX and what ever trilogies Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones guys are up to...

I'm looking forward to Solo. Fair enough it's not gonna be as big or as special as one of the Trilogy films, but I don't think it intends to be.

After Solo, we have an 18-month break at least, until the next Star Wars film.

I meant more in the fact that it's a character centric prequel with serious production issues...
Movies based on the backstories of existing movie characters are rarely good...

And I like Han Solo and Harrison Ford too much to want to see something like that...

I agree. A backstory on an evil character like Darth Vader, works to an extent, cause you see how he got to that place. But with a character like Han Solo, what? Do we find out how he became a bit of a bastard, only to go back to being a good guy at the end of A New?Hope.

So, the Game of Thrones team is tackling a Star Wars TV show. I guess Star Wars is finally going to get transporters.

There is no such fucking thing as too much star wars.

There should be so much Star Wars that they should release the original unaltered trilogy and completely remake the prequel trilogy from scratch...

That's how much Star Wars there should be...
    At least that much...

I think the real prequel reboot film will be Obi-Wan.

What a fantastic ending to rebels. Honestly, star wars at its best storytelling wise. A beautiful way to end the series and begin a new one. Just wish the new one would be starting in the fall.

Loved the Rebels finale. The show as a whole was fantastic. Looking forward to whatever Filoni does next.

I am really really game for it being what is suspected. Asoka and Sabine looking for Ezra and along the ways meet up with the Ghost crew and come across Luke Skywalker building the Jedi academy. Plus the Snoke backstory.

Jon Favreau is going to write and executive produce a live-action Star Wars series for Disney's streaming service. I know people would like diversity behind the camera, but I'm a big Favreau fan.

she is weak. and the scene they used didn't make her look any stronger.

Ugh, that's atrocious. Scrapping that really didn't help though, as Last Jedi was still a jumbled mess from the script to the overall plot.

If Luke is involved, I hope that they convince Hamill to voice the character. Throughout his history as a voice over actor he's never lent his voice to his most iconic character. There have been opportunities - video games, etc. I wish they’d look back at the Clone Wars model where we got some episodes expanding film characters and others coming up with the conflicts of newly created ones. The Maul vs. Obi-Wan episode's only problem was the inclusion of Ezra.

I would imagine hamill would do it without question. Mainly becau I don't see luke being a huge part if they go that route and it's a job he could literally do from home if he wanted. Plus he could bang out several episodes at once.

    New list..

    1a. A New Hope
    1b. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Rogue One
    3. Return Of The Jedi
    4. The Force Awakens
    5. Revenge Of The Sith
    6. The Phantom Menace
    7. Attack Of The Clones
    8. The Last Jedi

Can never decide if I like ANH or ESB more, likewise I can't decide if ROTS or TPM are worse.

Will try to watch Rebels sooner or later. I have seen some earlier episodes but weren't all that impressed, it seems it has steadily improved over the seasons though.

Any tips on the best place(s) to watch Rebels (legally) is appreciated, or if the the Blu-Ray release isn't too far off I can wait for that. I tried Amazon but for whatever reason they won't allow viewers outside the US. I'm not interested in signing up to Netflix, Disney XD or whatever just to stream a couple of Rebels episodes.

I see lots of people petitioning for Disney to replace Kathleen Kennedy with Dave Filoni who seems to be pretty universally supported for his work on Clone Wars and Rebels, he definitely seems to "get" star Wars from what I hear. Might not be a bad idea.
