I've only recently gotten back into Marvel comics. Wolverine was always my favorite character, but is it just me or is he a major player in virtually every Marvel title? He's fucking everywhere.

Yep. It's a blowback from the early 00s where Wolverine and Spiderman were literally the only characters selling comics for Marvel anymore.

I was behind Cap 100% during Civil War, and I recall Steve Rogers recently bringing it up during an Illuminati meeting where he had to remind everybody that he died because of it. Civil War was probably the last big event that I enjoyed from beginning to end, with everything else afterwards being very tame in comparison. Secret Invasion didn't interest me, Dark Reign was alright at first, Siege was a step in the right direction, Fear Itself didn't have a lasting effect, and Avengers vs. X-Men had its moments.

And if we're on the subject of CW, I'll never forget

Just ordered The Complete Bad Company from Amazon, got the bulk of it anyhow but in the monthly and comic form so this makes it a load easier to read.

Not sure what to invest in next, any suggestions?

(thinking ABC Warriors or some early Dredd, but might pick up Long Halloween instead)

Nah, the reaction is bullshit. It was a great story with a great ending that might have far far reaching consequences if they stick to their guns and don't pander to the fucking dolts who didn't get it and didn't have their bloody lust sasiated.

Are there any Hulk story lines that are on par with Planet Hulk? I love the character, but there just doesn't seem to be a ton of great story lines where he's the focus.

I know someone who is still ticked he voted for Jason's death and it got overturned due to bad writing. Even though its obvious, the Pit is where this all going to end up.

No, he voted once. Good trick though, lead to one of the best Batman stories ever told.

We've already had a member of the family revived in the pit in this arc (two in a way) in a sense it would be stupid, considering all the players involved, if he wasn't.

What's everyone currently reading? I just remembered I have the Captain America: Reborn bound book, so I'm gonna give that a crack in a few. Looking for something to read next, but I don't wanna read anything current, since I like being able to buy the big graphic novel-y books as it saves me the trouble of hunting down various comics (shops here SUCK).

I just got through Y: The Last Man a second time, and it is brilliant from start to finish. I also just rushed through All Star Superman. Now that I've grabbed up the last TPB's of Preacher, I'm going to restart that and finish it off since its been about a year since I was reading it.

Nothing new in terms of superhero books really gets me. Some of the things that I've been reading about the Spider-Man titles intrigues me, but not enough to buy the books. And DC totally turned me off their books with the reboot. But Earth 2 looks interesting.

Yeah, I read a bunch of the New 52 Superman stuff when it first came out, but I lost interest pretty quickly. Couldn't bring myself to crack open any of Batman stuff since there's so many different Batman comics going on and the reboot killed all interest I had in Batman anyway. Seriously, Bruce being dead was fantastic. Why you do this to us, DC?

I was never an avid reader of the Batman titles to begin with. I was glad they moved Dick into the role as Batman, but pretty pissy that Tim Drake was pushed to the side for Damian Wayne. Again, it didn't matter too much because I never was big on the Batman titles, but at one point, I had a pretty solid run of Robin's because that character was more intriguing to me than Batman was.

I grabbed up the first five issues or so of Morrison's run on Action, and while I liked what I read, I just checked out. I didn't even bother picking up Superman, because I thought it was stupid that these are supposed to be modernized characters - yet George Perez (who I respect highly as an artist) was writing it and drawing covers. I don't like the updated costume and I just said "fuggit" and stopped buying them. Maybe when Morrison's run on Action is collected, I'll grab it up. But until then, I'll just stick to what I know is good. Which is shit I bought a while ago.

Like Mills, I was really getting into Dickman, especially with he and Jason Todd going at it and Grayson putting him in his place. Drake getting dicked over would have pissed me off so much more if I didn't bloody love Damian so much (:'().

I'm doing some comic hunting on evilbay right now. Anyone here read the Planet Hulk stuff? I'm thinking of giving it a go.

I've been watching too much Comic Book Men lately and it put me in a fiending mood to read more comics, lol.

All-New X-Men is fantastic, but it's been increasingly hard to keep up with all these X-Men/Avengers books because it's impossible for all these scenarios to be happening at the same time or even establishing what time frame each event is happening. The past X-Men are in the present, Cyclops is creating a mutant revolution with Magneto playing Starscream, Age of Ultron is starting, the Avengers have just returned from an off planet battle, etc. It's dizzying. :-/

Right. I mean, you have to basically look at each series completely independent of one another. Wolverine is everywhere. Whatever.

Superior Spider-man is pretty cool. I love the fact that Peter Parker is no longer Peter Parker...

Wont touch any of the other stuff. Marvel's comic universe has driven me nuts for far too long.

Can't get passed Doc Ock literally raping MJ. Spiderman is Peter Parker when it isn't, it sucks. Of course, I gave up on Spiderman after One More Day. Batman: Death in the Family was good, but Snyder explaining
and confessing he didn't do a good job explaining that makes a bit weird.

Doc Ock didn't rape MJ, he even ends up developing feelings for her, mostly because Peter's subconscious still lives inside his body. That's actually why i'm so into the series, I wanna see what's gonna happen with this battle between what's left of Parker inside of his body and the current occupant of his mind. It's almost like a modern age Venom deal.

Speaking of Avengers, I found my copy of Dark Avengers 1, read it, and went ahead and bought the rest of 'em off ebay for like $20 shipped. Pretty stoked. Gonna look for the Planet Hulk stuff tomorrow. Might even do something I haven't done in years and go to a COMIC BOOK SHOP, dun dun dunnnnnnn.

Anything you'd like to try, or avoid?

The Boys is worth a read if you want something different, or maybe some Bad Company or ABC Warriors if you'd like a little old British stuff?

Hush or Long Halloween for Bats if you've missed them, or of course Killing Joke if you want something short dark and nasty.

Other than that if you want something big try the A vs X that's just run down, end is a bit of a cop out though, or the Blackest Night arc if you want to dig a bit.

Siege was fun, I just picked up all of 52 for $40 after shipping, it was DCs weekly series that was amazing. If you're more of a marvel guy, check out avengers the iniative, fun story that used b and c listers well.

Siege was pretty much everything I wanted in a super hero comic. I can understand why people were urked by it, but I don't see why it gets so much hate from all the hardcore Marvel boys. Say what you will about Sentry, but he was a pretty scary villain in my book.

I've read all of Siege (and I like Sentry too), AvX, House Of M, Messiah Complex. Ultimates 1 and 2. Pretty much all the big batman arcs. Loads.

I think I'll check out Y. Also, anyone tried out Sandman? Any good?

I also fancy reading all of the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk stuff. Finding it hard to find a collection though.

I like Avengers a lot (never thought I would be) so if there are any really good arcs with them I'm in.

I'm trying to get through Age Of Apocalypse at the mo but finding it quite boring. Odd, I know.

Couldn't really dig into Sandman properly, it looks well written but I'm a tad daft so a lot of it just goes over my head. Shame as I've actually enjoyed Neil Gaiman's novels.

    It's highly praised though.

I always get a kick out of Avengers, it's hard for me to peg down where exactly I've loved it the most. I got into it around when Kurt Busiek started writing (started at Volume 3 around the year 2000 I think) and even enjoyed when Bendis came along and killed off a whole bunch of people.

Notable stuff for me personally would be the beginning of the New Avengers up to Secret Invasion, anything involving Dark Reign and Osborn's Dark Avengers and also Andy Diggle's Thunderbolts for a bit of a pre-cursor of how Osborn got his spot as the ruler of HAMMER (basically whatever happened prior to Siege).

I don't suppose you've ever checked out Ex Machina, Christ I loved that book. If you're a fan of Y the Last Man after reading a few issues, you might find yourself keen on that, same writer. Likewise check out his (Brian K. Vaughan) work on a series in Marvel called Runaways and even a new series he's working on at the moment called Saga.

Funnily enough, he just came out with the start of a digital series today that surprised a lot of people, and it's available to purchase for "whatever you think it's worth" at http://panelsyndicate.com/ - only one issue in obviously.

I'm into the third tpb of Preacher, and I'm debating on either finally trying to tackle From Hell or going back and reading Watchmen for the fourth or fifth time. I've tried with From Hell a few times and get about 50 pages in, and just stop because, being a Yank, my brain just starts to hurt.

The girl I'm dating read through Y in about a week because I hipped her to it (and let her borrow my tpb's). I don't think she'd ever read a comic or graphic novel before, but she loved it. I honestly think it's the one series I can recommend to anyone and if they get past the first arch and still want to read it, then they'll be hooked.

As far as GL goes, I always love when I end up reading The Road Back. I know that it's probably not even canon anymore, but I love it. For me, it gives true definition to Hal, which even Johns couldn't do. Johns seemed like he really wanted to do something with Hal, but outside of Rebirth, he just flopped. He got bored, and decided Sinestro was a more interesting character.

But after The Road Back, I can't deny Rebirth was a great read. I also loved the arch that was done back when Kyle was the only GL, and he was teamed up with a time-displaced younger Hal. That was a great read.

I've not really paid much attention to GL but I ploughed through Rebirth and thought it was interesting.

What I really liked was how each GL had a different way of using their power. The architect, the artist, the pilot, and the cocky twat. Interesting.

I think Rebirth really highlighted to me how shit and personality depirved the JLA is as opposed to Avengers.

I would suggest the GL/Green Arrow, O'Neil and Adams run from the 70s. The book was about to get canned and they said Fuck it, lets talk about shit we don't do at DC, but they do at Marvel.

Starting to read Age of Ultron. It's okay I guess. I found myself more into these sort of events when I was able to read them in one hit, but Marvel is releasing three issues per month for the first two months, and then two more in the third, and two in the forth, or something like that.

It's supposed to be happening right now in the Marvel U but that's bollocks because well... I don't want to give anything away, but if you read it there's obvious discrepancies between who's alive, who isn't and the way certain mainstream characters are portrayed.

Left my Nexus 7 inch tablet at church the other week and when I came back to it my screen was all cracked so I'm back to reading them digitally on my phone and on my laptop, which isn't so bad... but man, I loved that thing.

There shouldn't be another Robin. I'm sure they're planning on a new Robin in the near future, but I think that's a really bad idea. Batman doesn't need one, and it makes him look like a grossly irresponsible shithead for continuing to put young people in harm's way.

OK so I just read through the last 3 pages of the ramble thread (fuck you for making me read most of that shit) and there was one comment, by you, about the closing of the VIP thread. That's it.

Anyways, AS I SAID WHEN I CLOSED IT, this is an experiment. It's not a mandate. If the people (not person, singular) really want the thread back we can make that happen. But I think it's worth trying to get people to branch out of their comfort zones and post in other subforums. It very well may not work, but it has no chance of working if we don't try it.

Now breathe deep Bert. Everything will be OK I promise.

Why exactly do you think people started posting there? It's supposed to only be for wrestling discussion but since the VIP is closed it's the new one basically.

I added some things in that above post. I just feel I should bring that to your attention.

Ah yes, I see that some of the VIP crowd have begun posting off topic things in there apropos of nothing. I'm not really sure what you think that is going going to accomplish beyond making the mods close that thread as well.

    Yep.

You probably should, honestly. That thread has been pretty haphazardly used for the past year or so anyway.

You're being a bit childish here, you're aware of that, yeah?

    Anyways, back on topic...

I'm looking for a new series to read once I finish the last 3 books in Y. Any suggestions?

Because Mitch doesn't seem to get that people wouldn't post non-wrestling discussion in the ramble thread if they had somewhere else to post it and I don't feel like arguing with your backseat moderating?

    C H I L D is the ish, man.

On topic, I really like Morning Glories. I still need to read #25 though.

Sweet Tooth and the Sandman series I enjoyed.
