I just got up to speed on Luther Strode today and I think it's my favorite mini series since Kick-Ass first started. The first mini was an interesting pilot, and this second one has been a fun ride with unique artwork to boot.

Miotch, have you read Preacher? Its a pretty good story and is about 75 issues overall, a little bit longer then Y

Don't know how you did it man, with Sweet Tooth I mean. I had to put that thing down. Same with Jason Aaron's Scalped, which is weird because I've loved most of his work at Marvel.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think Preacher is probably next on the list.

I started reading the 100 Bullets trades probably a decade ago or so, and I loved them. After the first few though I fell out of it and I remember it being such a huge investment that I'm not sure I want to go down that path again. Almost daunting, really.

So this is the new vip thread? Noted. I have somethings to talk about.

    1. I do miss the vip thread. Was gonna post pics of the ocean and me fighting a bull shark.
    2. Moitch is trying to make things better, Bert. Give the man a chance...you may not agree but he is trying.
    3. Send me this y series bert. Is there an app made where I can read it on my phone?
    4. Bert also send me the walking dead series up to where the tv show ended so I may compare.
    5. I miss the vip thread. I do think we need a catch all for ramblings or one off posts. Maybe have it in off topic?
    6. Kangus loves monkey balls.

Give me time to put them on my dropbox. ComicRack is the best app for Android.
I don't even know where it stopped so I'll give you them all and you can stop when you want to stop.

It was a lot of things I suppose mate. The artwork, the colouring, how sad it all just seemed, and given that I was reading the Walking Dead at the same time (for the very first time from start right up to current) I couldn't help but compare the character development in one over the other. Honestly I may have just found it hard to get into the concept of talking animal hybrids, that and just how d

Bizarre, because I really like what the guy does with Animal Man over in DC.

Yeah, it's real good. It lags a bit in the middle, and there are a few issues that are sort of random throw ins, but all in all it's phenomenal.

Virmy, the comic and the TV show dont really flow together that well. People dead in the show are alive in the comics and vice versa. The comic is on issue 110 i think, but reads quickly. Just start from the beginning, youll enjoy it more

It's cracking. There's two massive compendium's out now that cover 1-50 then 1-100 I think (that might be wrong).

Each issue is quite short so you can really rattle through them.

If you have an ipad then get ComicZeal and you can read them on there....

Read Old Man Logan the other night. I really enjoyed that. Is it just me, or does anyone else love how bloody and violent the Wolverine comics have become?

Old Man Logan is easily my favorite Wolverine mini, and it blows me away that it's written by Mark Millar a writer I cannot stand. Even though it's mostly heart wrenching, the ending still gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Finished Preacher finally. And while I enjoyed it, I felt it was a bit all over the place.

    Totally enjoyed the ending though.

I've never been a huge X-Men fan, I outright hate Cyclops and Wolverine pisses me off because they never seem to follow through on him quite right.

That said I enjoyed Old Man Logan, but again they never followed through on it.

I've always hated Cyclops. He's a whiney bitch. The only time I've ever enjoyed him was on Whedon's run.

Pretty much every X-Men run I've everr read has included at least one moment when you have to totally suspend belief that someone in the team wouldn't slap the shite out of him and take over.

It's always mystified me that he could be the leader of the team for so long in spite of constantly putting everyone in danger because he's too concerned about which ever female telepath he happens to be fucking during that run. I can't think of any incarnations of the X-Men where the writers actually portray him as an effective tactician or combat leader besides the Whedon run. He's always been a whiney parrot for Xavier.

Although, it's not just Cyclops that I don't like about the X-Men. The constant love triangles in the X-Universe have alway bugged me.

True, the team is a disaster it hurts my head trying to believe Gambit, Logan, and to be fair at least 3/4 of the rest wouldn't just say 'Stuff this' and simply walk off half the time.

The whole team is totally disfunctional most of the time due to petty squabbles and crushes, with half the writers that get the stories seemingly only phoning in their efforts.

You can tell I'm not an X-Men fan can't you

I think what's hindering the X-Man world is the fact that we we never get any establishment, things are always changing. There are several X teams that confuse the heck out of me. What I do like however, is how Cyclops has become the main antagonist for the X-Men, who come to think of it... I can't even name who is even on the team anymore. It's just a bunch of people that are just there. There is so much going on it hurts my brain, which also isn't helped by the number of X books floating around. Too much... much too much.

I wish they would just list the X-Men, the baddies, and the misc characters.

All New X-Men has been wonderful though, I highly recommend it. I wish Scott was still Pheonix because that only opened a ton of doors, but now he's pretty much acting like he's Magneto except he's Cyclops. Since I've mentioned Magneto, I still can't believe he's been relegated to Scott's lackey in a way. I swear, I've been waiting for him to find the right time to turn on everybody and show his real colors.

Well, Cyclops is a bad guy from a certain point of view. In all actuality, I have a bigger problem with Cap acting like the complete opposite of himself in Civil War. On top of that Cyclops was sorta right about how to handle the situation.I have no problem with Cyke being leader since almost all the other hero teams has leader fucking someone like the FF and the rest of the X-teams and sometimes JLA with Sups and Wonder Woman.

For me, the whole premise of Civil War was fairly contrived and stupid, in the first place, which made the splintering of the heroes and how a lot of them reacted that much harder to take. It was a good idea, and I could see why they'd have Cap be the leader of the resistance, but the reasons behind the fighting felt so utterly convoluted that I had a hard time getting into the story. Especially since, given the circumstances and rationale behind having a superhero registration, I totally agreed with the government/SHIELD/Stark side of things.

Cyclops killed Professor X during AvX, so yeah, he's a bad guy now, at least in the public eye.

He's more of a tweener, really. Post Phoenix force he's escaped from custody and has teamed up with Emma Frost and Magneto with the whole 'Homo-superior' blah blah stance. We'll see where it goes, but yeah, Scott Summers is now and has always been a giant dick.

I had the opposite rational. There was no way the heroes should register since we all know how corrupt government is especially in the Marvel Universe where you have Senators funding Sentinel projects. If you read Spiderman Back in Black, you would see why it was absolutely stupid it is for the heroes to unmask. Cap standing up for the heroes' right to privacy after countless times they saved the world made me give a shit about Cap. It didn't surprise me they used Iron Man to be the leader of the government since he was such a C level hero and his movie was coming up, they throw the spotlight on him. My problem was all the issues showed why the resistance was right and the end was such 9-11 bullshit on top of the fact they didn't want Tony to lose due to his movie, it had one of the worst endings in comics. That ending with the end of World War Hulk and the atritous Brand New Day killed Marvel for me.

Why would you continue reading a post that was about Civil War if you hadn't finished reading it?

It's not really a recent event.

Why am I getting shit on for spoilers when you have someone telling you about a major death in a more recent mini-series? People need to get over the spoiler tag shit from something is over 2 years old.

Exactly, which is why I think he's one of the best villains going in Marvel today. When you don't agree with what they're doing, but you understand where they're coming from, that makes them even more likeable and lethal as a "bad guy." Even though I wish he was still Phoenix, I still think Summers is the most captivating he's ever been.

I picked up Volume 1 of Saga (the first 6 issues) and really enjoyed it. But rather than wait until July to buy Volume 2 I decided just to download the other issues and read them on my tablet.

It's from Brian K. Vaughan, the writer of Y The Last Man.

Got Hawkeye: My life as a weapon Batman: Court of Owls. Owls volume 1 maybe the best book I have read in the last few years. Not happy about the Mr. Freeze retcon or who was behind it all, but still very good.

Well, he didn't actually spoil anything. Freeze has nothing to do with the Court of Owls story, lotjx just clumsily constructed that sentence.

Sorry to say I actually didn't. I was just at a convention trying to find something to buy and it caught my eye and was only $10 for Volume 1. Why is it on hiatus? That sucks but explains why I can't find a release date for issue #13.

Honestly, I recommend reading what you have, then find Annihilation. It seems like you enjoy cosmic Marvel, and it's the best story they've had in that realm. You can check out Thanos Imperative also, pretty solid read.

I kid. They're trying to catch up and put in extra pages so that the next volume can go uninterrupted. Fiona Staples does a fantastic job on art, but her style is time consuming to say the least. Marcos Martin also is, to be fair, but this way I guess there's a balance.

Check this out, this is private eye, online only:

It was mentioned in Saga #12 so I went and downloaded that and read it earlier. Now I want Issue 2. Damn BKV.

I don't know if you have a tablet but I have an invite for http://www.comicbt.com/ if you want one. It's not ratio based it's based off of carats which you get just by having torrents set to seed even if no one is downloading from you. PM me your email if you're interested.

Currently digging into the Winter Soldier story. Just a coincidence that the movie is being made. What a great read, so far. It's nice to see Captain America in a really gritty storyline.

I've been getting back into comics in a big way after a brief hiatus.

Visited the local comic book shop and spent way more money than I planned on. Picked up Days of Future Past to kinda refresh myself before the next X-Men flick. Damn good read, I'd forgotten just how good it was. Also got it since it was the first appearance of Wolverine's badass brown and tan costume and I wanted to find where it originated... which led nowhere. Cheers to anyone who could fill me in on that.

I also got Deadpool: Dead Presidents 1-6, written by comedian/odd lookin' fella Brian Posehn. First time in a long time where I've literally lol'd repeatedly at a comic. A very fun read, highly recommended for Deadpool fans and newcomers alike. It's a great jumping off point if you're not very familiar with the character. Plus it's not every day you get to see Zombie Abraham Lincoln in a boxing match. IN A CAGE!!

Speaking of zombies (kinda), I also just finished up Marvel Universe vs Wolverine. Let me just take a second to say HOLY SHIT. One of the more graphic, violent, disturbing works I've read in recent memory. Brief synopsis: superheroes become infected by genetic mutation that turns most of them into mindless super fucking cannibals. Versus Wolverine. Imagine that, make it ten times better and you'll have this story. I think i'm gonna go back and re-read that one, so much shit happens and it's just such a cool story. Love the artwork as well.

Superman: Red Son was interesting to say the least. I really liked the story. It was a basic, yet original look into an alternate universe where Kal-El crash landed in Soviet Russia instead of Smallville. Hijinks ensue. A few small plot holes kinda bothered me, but otherwise I really enjoyed it. Plus the ending is way out of this world. Literally. I had to go back and read it a couple times, really fucked with my mind. Some real Grant Morrison type shit.

I also purchased a few issues of the new Batman & Robin (Dick Grayson/Damien Wayne) that I haven't quite gotten to yet, but I've heard a lot of good about it. After that I think i'll read through The Crow one more time, then after that I dunno what. I'm sort of out of the loop with modern comics so i'm not quite sure what to get or where to start or whatnot. The Civil War storyline sounds REALLY intriguing, so maybe i'll go hunt that down on my next trip to the comic shop.

One of my customers at work happens to be a comic book dealer and he's given some wicked deals on loads of 90's comics recently, so recently I've snagged up tons and tons and tons of X-men 2099, Uncanny X-men, Astonishing X-men, Marvel vs DC, Batman (knightfall, Batman vs Predator, etc) all at a price of less than a dollar a book. Got Captain Americas vs Punisher today, which looks pretty good, but I haven't cracked 'em open yet. Was reading a bunch of X-man and Storm stuff at work today.

    Saga #13, August 14th.

I need to read The Private Eye #2 and #3 still.

Still way behind on my reading Deadpool chronologically.

I might download Revival, it sounds interesting.
For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them. In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect. A beautiful "farm noir" that puts a new twist on the zombie genre, created by NYT Bestselling author Tim Seeley and acclaimed artist Mike Norton.

Revival is good, but you have to deal with art that can come off a bit cartoony, but a great story.

I find these funny. Greg Miller and Colin Moriarity have a comic discussion. Greg is a huge comic fan, and Colin is not. Colin takes a stab at an origin story.

I've been reading through every comic involving Deadpool chronologically and I just finished Cable & Deadpool. It was a really good series, before reading it I couldn't have cared less about Cable but the series did a good job of humanizing him and I'm not opposed to reading more comics involving Cable because of it. Once I get caught up to Brian Posehn's Deadpool and Thunderbolts, I mean.

So, do people have comics that they read every month? What are yours?

    Mine:
    Saga
    Morning Glories
    Invincible
    The Walking Dead

Deadpool and Thunderbolts will be added to that when I finally catch up.

Also, if anyone wants a torrent site to get comics, PM me. I have 2 invites.

I got (almost?) all of the 'Before Watchmen' TPBs from the library and have been working through them. I really liked the Dr. Manhattan portion in particular. Anybody else read 'em? What'd you think?

    My list consists of:

    Hawkeye
    Daredevil
Incredible Hulk (although now that it's entering time-travel storylines I tend to get a little bored)
Avengers & New Avengers (I think I've been an avengers fanboy for the last 15 years, and while not every storyline is great, it's been mostly good.)
    Uncanny X-Men
    All-New X-Men
The Walking Dead (never thought I'd appreciate a comic about zombies)
    FF
    Superior Spider-Man

Between those and Daniel Bryan in the Main Event scene, it's such a good time to be a geek. My wife and mates honestly, I don't know how they put up with me sometimes...

...I was thinking of checking out Venom as I enjoyed it when it began a few years back, but I just read that it's been cancelled. Shame, I think Bunn's a great writer, from what I read of The Sixth Gun.

I'm trying to get my head around Avengers, New Avengers and Infinity and while it is a good read, some concepts are a little too complicated (err.. intelligent) for my liking. I suppose at the end of the day, it's the Avengers Vs. Space Baddies... for someone who's so good at World Building, I am pretty impressed with the spin Hickman has on the characters he writes, even if they only get a panel or two in his issues.

My pull list is Batman and Superman Unchained. Both are very interesting, but I don't know if I would say good. General Lane needs a good curb stomp and I am not sure how the fuck Year One is still supposed to be in continuity with everything going on in Year Zero. Regardless Snyder can write a tale. I am going to Baltimore Comic Con where I hope to get the Hawkeye, Saga and Revival trades at good prices. Wife is hoping to meet Mike Mignolia where I am gong for Mark Waid, Neal Adams, Perez and Starlin. Stan canceled so, either the lines are going to be huge for everyone else or its going to be a nice quiet affair without too much hassle.

A not so brief report on the last of the comic book only conventions and why DC is behaving like Alabama when it comes to Bat-Woman marrying the female Question.

I enjoyed Venom when Reminder wrote it, but it did drag after he moved to Philly.

My list recently shrank, I took all the Green Lantern titles off my pull list, but still some quality titles

    daredevil and DD dark nights
    Hawkeye
    Saga
    Superior Spiderman
    Villains of superior spiderman
    Flash
    Night wing
    Suicide Squad
    Avengers Arena
    Infinity

I'm enjoying the crap out of Saga, such a fantastic comic, but newer stuff is boring me lately. I dropped Nova, Avengers, and the GL line recently. I'm going to start finishing some runs I haven't finished, like the last issues of Y the last man or finally collecting all the Daredevil issues

Y: The Last Man is definintely worth finishing.

I don't know if anyone's done so, but it's incredibly worthwhile checking out the Bendis run on Daredevil. Alex Maleev's artwork is tremendous as well.

I thought the ending was underwhelming, predictable, and just lazy. The story started off so strong, and hooked me in. There were some ups and downs, but the middle was largely entertaining. As the end started coming, I knew what the end game could be. I just didn't enjoy the last few issues.

Vaughan is a talented writer, and I think he could have done better with the ending.

Not sure if anyone is interested but someone just uploaded every Fantastic Four comic book every done. I can't tell you where to get it (due to rules on the board) but I am sure you can find it easy enough with a simple google.

Never really cared much for Fantastic Four but I am sure there are some of you on here with kindles and such that would love to get their hands on it.

    YO.

I don't get comic books right. However I was bought a copy of Strongman by Charles Soule.

It's awesome. It's about wrestling and it's awesome.

    Have at it

Does anyone here read Star Wars comics? I just started with the new "Dawn of the Jedi" series which is based on the very beginning of the Star Wars timeline. Very cool stuff if you're into Star Wars. Another comic I like to read on a regular basis is TMNT. Marvel and DC stuff I'm more into animated cartoon series.

Locke and Key hmm? I'm checking out the latest run of Deadpool at the moment. I don't think it's as great as the original run, or even that whole Agent X thing, but its a lot better than the other Deadpool comics that have been about the last five to ten years...

Just got my hands on Avengers World but haven't checked it out yet. Hickman is such a confusing writer. He's got some great ideas but I fear I'm too dense to grasp them all.

I'm still in the Waypool years trying to catch up to where they are currently while reading chronologically the best that I can.

I read the Agent X stuff in Cable & Deadpool and that was enough for not to read that series.

I also got like 5 issues into Preacher and I think I was about 5 issues into 100 Bullets when I stopped that. I plan to pick them up again sometime.

I have Fables on my tablet I haven't even started reading.

I'm a few issues behind on Invincible, Morning Glories and The Walking Dead.

Morning Glories is so hard to keep track of because of how bizarre it is.

I think I'm caught up on Saga but I'll have to make sure some time.

I agree with you about Morning Glories... Saga is brilliant, the artwork is fantastic and I'm a big fan of the chap who's writing it.

For some reason I was under the impression that the Walking Dead had an accelerated shipping schedule so I may or may not be out of it.

I'm really disappointed with the way Nova is going at the moment, as a teen I loved the character, and while the artwork is fantastic they've done bugger all with him. Hell, put him with the GotG and I'd be wrapped, he's so not a fit that it should work.
