Trust me, we have seen countless times people not high on being part of a sequel if the right people aren't involved. People making 12 second cameos, that's a cash grab for the fuck of it and Moranis is not that type of person.

If anything, now that his kids are older, he might do it for them. Look at Eddie Murphy. The reason he does nothing but family movies is due to his kids.
so when you say if there's ever a role that would bring him back it's this, you're basing this on your knowledge that he's been offered a substantial part in this movie not just a cameo? idk, I sort of doubt that they're writing a part for him like that.

also this is an aside but from the reported description of the movie (which is unofficial) this seems like they're going the Jumanji route. Jumanji reboot was so successful that it makes sense to try the same thing here.

You got Jumanji out of that? Hmm.

I guess the son of the original director being at the helm is a positive. You have to think they learned from the last one, that you can't just pimp the Ghostbusters brand. Jumanji2 did well because it had 2 of the biggest fucking names in Hollywood starring in it, Rock and Kevin Hart plus you had Jack Black. Honestly I'm not really wanting to get into a Jumanji conversation because I honestly don't see much in comparison with what we saw in a 2 second clip versus a movie that is nothing like Ghostbusters at all, in any shape or form.

Comedic sci-fi film with some darkness to it that got rebooted into a teen-based comedy. That's where my mind went when reading the description, yea. Granted you're right that Jumanji was a body switch comedy so it starred adult actors pretending to be teens, not actual teen actors.

I was not too happy to hear this will star teens. I still would rather they do it with current comedic stars like Seth Rogen and the gang (but we discussed that at length earlier in this thread).

Jason Reitman is of Juno fame. You strike me as someone who really loved Juno, Nash.

Definitely a fan of Juno. 2 of my favorite actors smash their roles, Jason Bateman and JK Simmons. Ellen Page is great, Michael Cera is good in it. I can't believe that movie is 12 years old.

I can see the loose similarities in what you're talking about. I honestly would have preferred something where the band has to get back together for one last ghost hunt. Maybe Ray is still doing something in the field since in real life he loves this kind of stuff, maybe he's doing a Ghost Adventurers type show but the others have moved on. Ray gets everyone to join him for one last big hunt for whatever reason and we're off.

Idk just freestyling as I type. I hope they don't just try to peddle the brand. Jumanji being a successful reboot doesn't trump the other 100 that weren't. Again, we're talking about a reboot that had 2 of the biggest names currently today PLUS I don't think there was much of a desire to see anyone else from the original sans Robin Williams who sadly is deceased.

Ghostbusters on the other hand, 99% of the cast is why it worked. Plus it was a fresh as fuck idea. Nowadays you have a million ghost movies of the same genre, mostly kiddy shit.

I feel like you're loosely describing the plot of Ghostbusters 2 except it was Venkman who was doing the Ghost Adventures type show.

In real life Dan Akroyd is a supernatural nerd which is why him and Harold Ramis wrote this movie to begin with. I actually spaced off Venkman's show (The world will end on Valentine's Day lo). Yeah my freestyle fantasy draft does have some elements that are loosely (like Jenna Jameson) similar but it would still work imo.

I mean, how else do you pull them all together without it being something like a last hoorah situation? I guess Akroyd wanting it to be about their kids could be a way to do it. Shit these 4 teens could be the kids of the 4 Ghostbusters

Haven't comedies had a rough go at it in terms of box office success or is it that they're just not made as much now?

More often than not, a comedy needs a good script. Especially a big budget high-concept comedy like Ghostbusters

As far as Jason Reitman's movie goes, I'm not a fan of the teenage Ghostbusters idea, but maybe it can work.

Oscar would be all grown up. He'd be what like 30 give or take. Did it say the four new people would be teens? All I heard was it will be two men and two women, might have just missed the teen part though.

Do you mean in general or recently? Whatever the answer is I would say no. Just like any other genre it depends on the movie (is it part of a franchise, that helps), the cast, the buzz.

For example, Kevin Hart's Night School was #1 opening weekend. His latest, #1. So yeah, I just think it depends on the movie. The only FOR SURE hits are pretty much anything Marvel puts out lol.

It's all rumor and speculation that it's going to be about 4 teens.

Keep in mind Oscar is Dana's kid.

The part in bold, I don't know if I agree with that considering all the stories I've heard of great comedies where most of the stuff we see make it to film were ad libs. Look at the end credit outtakes for movies like Step Brothers where Will and John just ramble like 12 different insults at each other and they choose the best one. Rick Moranis even said that when he came in for the first one he basically re-wrote everything his character said on the spot.

The reality is that more often than not the script is just a bullet point and good comedic actors take that and make it their own.

I meant the last 5-7 years. The genre just seems like a distant third (at best) compared to superhero and horror/thriller.

Well, let's not forget animated children movies. Superhero movies only competition seems to be movies like Frozen and Incredibles lol. I would honestly bet that comedies have done better in the last 5-7 years than horror/thriller. Really unless a horror movie is part of a franchise, old and new, it's going to flop. The same could be said though about comedies, if it doesn't have a strong lead like Kevin Hart or Will Ferrel or an ensemble cast like Adam Sandler movies for example....they probably don't do as well.

That's why I said at best, lol. A lot of times though, the animated movies are deemed animated comedies so that does a lot for the genre.

Will Ferrell could be floating towards becoming a bad example now. At least in the very recent sense. Weren't two of his last three like dreadful bombs?

Naw his last movie Daddy's Homse 2 debuted @ #2 behind Thor Ragnacock, understandable lol.

And yeah, semantics, but I wasn't exactly saying it was a for sure #1 hit if Will Ferrell is the star, he was just an identifiable big name who has a solid track record.

Sounds like it could possibly be more like Extreme Ghostbusters then?

    Remember that old show?

That wasn't his last movie. You mentioned the 1 in the 2 out of 3 lol: The House, Holmes and Watson. And DH2 was sandwiched in-between them, I believe.

Definatley didn't forget he was Dana's kid. I'd like to think if Dana will be back, then I'd have to say Oscar would be back too. Unless, he has "moved away" etc. to write him out. I've got my brain going a mile a minute with what ifs. Very exciting time for a guy who grew up loving this story.

Ok my bad I didn't realize the Sherlock movie was already out lol, shows how much I actually pay attention. Man they should have waited another month to drop that movie. But Daddy's Home 2 was before that. Who knows maybe if he didn't drop his movies when gigantic Marvel/DC movies are released he'd be better lol.

Don't get me wrong I hope the new reboot will be better than the 2016 reboot but we will see. it will be hard to get a leading cast as good as Wiig/McCarthy IMO. (Yea Leslie Jones was trash tho).
It was a mistake because it's left such a sour taste in Sony's mouth that they've already scapped it from canon. The cast hated it, the director had a breakdown mid production, and the movie just plain sucked.

It was never canon in the sense that it never existed in the same universe as GB1 and GB2. did you see the movie?

Yep, that's why everyone from the original had different names. Also why the report says this new one will take place in the same universe as the first 2.

I remember them saying it wasn't linked but didn't the preview start by alluding to events in the past. Then the whole Zuul Easter egg after the credits. I only saw the movie once but seemed like they were double dipping there.

They were definitely double dipping. I bet had that movie not bombed it would have been part of the canon some way shape or form. It could still be, they could spin it like this was some alternate universe like Earth-2

I never said it was canon w/ the GB1 and 2. Sony started the new universe w/ the 2016 movie and... they've already shit canned it. So the canon they started in 2016 is gone.

yea or you could just say they're not making a sequel. there needs to be more than 1 entity in a fictional universe for there to be canon. in this case it was just 1 movie.

Forest Gump was never made canon either.

I mean, he's technically correct as a canon is a collection of things set in the same universe, so you'd need at least two works set in the same universe to have a canon...

But it's also a bit of a pedantic point. It's splitting hairs...

Ernie Hudson confirmed that the original cast is returning. I'm really interested in how Bill Murray feels about this. He was legally forced to be a part of the 2016 movie, but I guess it's possible that he genuinely liked the script for this new one.

I am serious Stallone is a great actor when he wants to do good dramatic work , he can (see Rocky/Creed/First Blood/Copland) but he doesn't usually do that kind of thing and is remembered more for his no brainer 80s blockbusters.

I still don't understand how he didn't win a best supporting actor for Creed.

I genuinely think he's very under rated. I get it. He's easy to mock. He really is. But the guy is a great emotional actor.

Stallone is in my top 3 or 5 actors, not because he can out-act Christian Bale but because he can usually entertain better.

If it's your typical Stallone film then it's usually pretty good.

Stallone and Keaton missing out on Oscars back to back was brutal. At least Keaton got Birdman for Best Picture when really, he should have won for Best Actor. Stallone got pigeon holed thanks to Rambo and Rocky as an action guy. I really thought Copland would open more doors for him as its a great tour du force by him, but that never happened. Bill Murray is the same way. You would think he would got some juicy roles, but he is stuck being Bill Murray the funny cameo guy.

When teenagers was mentioned I was thinking 18-19 range but I'm hearing things that it will be more the 12-13 year old range.

Yeah I'm weary of it. I just wish they'd make a great movie or leave Ghostbusters alone. Hard to capture that old magic I guess.

I guess with It and Stranger Things there has been some success with that age bracket though.

Imagine if they made a movie like the original now and tried to sell the concept to a studio.

When the executives in charge saw the demon dogs they'd fucking shit. Can't sell toys that look like that. Christian parents would protest. Wal-Mart would cave and not sell the line.

It's been proven kids don't want to see themselves all the time in movies. They like seeing people in their late teens and early 20s. Studios thinking twelve year olds want to play with twelve year old figures or video games are out of their minds. I am hoping it's s rumor and we get intern Ghostbusters, because Peter said the frachinse rights alone would make them rich.

Leslie Jones isn't too happy about this. Feels like if it does better than her version then that is sending a message that men are better. I understand the thought process, but it makes no sense, because it was originally and all male team.

If they made a better movie then there would be need for this. An all female team was a bad idea. The fans wanted to see the original crew and now they can.. mostly.

What does she have to be mad about? Did she see the movie? Oh that's right we literally have no idea what the movie is truly going to include, not include, who's in it, etc.

The reality she knows that it was a shitty movie. Her performance have been the highlight, but every now and then you find a piece of corn in your shit, doesn't mean you should eat it and call it a meal.

Yeah but really put yourself in her shoes. She's over 50. Struggled forever in the entertainment industry and then finally made it. Finally got her own movie. And people shit all over it. Sure it wasn't very good but that didn't matter. People hated the shit out of that movie from the second they heard about it. So she's being defensive is all it really is.

Doesn't change the quality of her movie. I'm just saying I get her reaction.

I don't get her reaction because she has no idea if they're going to just completely write off that movie or not. For all we know this movie could do what her movie did, cast the originals from the first 2 in different roles and call it a different universe. So we could see all 4 of these women in GB3 but in different roles.

I mean I could understand her reaction if the movie was actually made but for all we know this is just the genesis of a new Ghostbusters movie. We don't know who's in it, what it's really going to be about, is there even a script?

I guess my devil's advocate rebuttal for that would be an example of me criticizing something on WWE programming. Who am I to critique something because I don't have all of the information and certainly don't have a means to find it out. She's an actress in the industry and has connections. Just because the general audience doesn't have all of the information, people in the industry do. She could simply have people ask around. That can happen and people can still keep information airtight after that. I'm not saying she did that and she has a valid reason to be upset but it's not like it's out of the realm of possibilities that she can find that information out.

Just because the general audience doesn't have all of the information, people in the industry do. She could simply have people ask around. That can happen and people can still keep information airtight after that. I'm not saying she did that and she has a valid reason to be upset but it's not like it's out of the realm of possibilities that she can find that information out.
Nothing she's said sounded like she had any more or less info than we do. She heard that it was going to be set in the original universe and went off about that particular aspect.

And can I blame her for being on edge? The minute her movie was announced everyone was like....what...the....fuck? It was such a forced movie just to try and be progressive (ALL FEMALE GHOSTBUSTERS WOO HOO BURN YOUR BRAS LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!) and the backlash wasn't as brutal as other shitty movies but it was super negative and it was a terrible movie. It was so bad it fucking killed all their careers.

Kristin Wiig MIGHT bounce back after Wonder Woman 2. The others, when was the last time Melissa McCarthy had a #1 movie, or even a top 10 movie? I don't even know who the 4th chick is lol, she never even got to have a career.

Honestly, they could have just made this a 5 minute sketch on SNL and if it popped off go from there.

You really have a blind spot to box office numbers and exaggerated proclamations lol. First the Will Ferrell stuff last week and now McCarthy. Her last two major releases came out and debuted and No. 2 (behind Infinity Wars) and No. 3 (behind Crazy Rich Asians and The Meg). The third was pretty much a lower-scale film (in terms of box office) but I think most will let that slide because she's nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars haha.

You can't hold that Will Ferrell shit against me lol.

Ok since Ghostbusters what were her 2 major releases? Life of the Party is the one that came in at no. 2 behind Infinity War which you might as well say it was no. 30 when you compare the box office numbers. What was the other major release? She's only had 2 movies since Ghostbusters, 1 was Happytime which completely bombed and was the worst opening of any of her movies ever. The other was some indie movie so I can't imagine that finished 3rd behind 2 turd movies that you just mentioned.

I guess cracking the top 5 isn't really that awesome if you're #3 and only grossed 2.4 million in comparison to movies that are #1 and gross 90.4 million

Melissa McCarthy is just awful. Worst part of Bridesmaids, worst part of anything I've seen her in actually. Will Ferrell was good 15 years ago. Now I want to stab him in the face with a fork.

She's good in spurts but at times it feels too much like they're wanting her to be a female Chris Farley. Every "fat" person since he died has tried to replicate his style but have failed miserably. He was a product of the great fatties before him; Belushi, Candy, they fucked and birthed Chris.

You're right, I think the only fat comic I've liked recently is Jack Black, but is he really that fat.

I can when it falls in line with making claims and them being easily called out and corrected

The movie(s) in question are the ones you brought up. You questioned her ability in terms of being No. 1 or even No. 10 and she was top 3 for both. I'm fine with disputing the viability of the raw numbers themselves but the rankings are what they were.

Well it wasn't even that big of a slip with the Ferell thing.

And yeah I should be careful of how I determine what sucks by saying "When was the last time she had a movie in the top 10" knowing full well a movie that makes $3.00 could wind up at no.9 with the amount movies we have released lol. Which I'm sure had her last movie made $3 and debuted at #9 you would have gladly pointed out like it was something to be proud of lol.

It's like that bullshit people use in advertising movies. They probably sold that puppet movie like "The number 1 movie featuring puppets in America" even though it only made $10 mill it's opening weekend.

Like when the WWE goes "Raw was #1 among males ages 18-49 who only watched Raw that night"

I mean, I am obviously being over the top with my statements and anyone doing any research to dispute is pissing me off because then I have to do research to just so counter in case it's fluff. And BG is providing a lot of fluff by going "It was no. 3!" Then it was no. 12 lol.

Sorry that pisses you off ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If it's obvious you are being over the top, it should be equally as obvious that I'm literal, like when I say something was No. 3, it was No. 3 and not No. 12 lol

Yeah I did a little research, but the problem is I haven't watched SNL in many years, not since Tina Fey and what's her nuts were doing weekend update. That's why I was like shit this should have just been something they did on SNL as a skit instead of wasting everyone's time and money with some whack shit.

Bought the complete Firehouse set of The Real Ghostbusters a bit ago but couldn't really dive in because of work and life. Dug it out and have been enjoying it so far.

I've been doing Lego's too, with my son. I spent waaaay too much on the retired Lego Firehouse set and have been putting it together while watching the show.

    Fun Quarantine.

Did you watch as a kid and did you have any of the figures?

One nice thing about our mom being a manager for various Spencer's Gifts stores was that she had a ton of people who would give her discounts at other stores in malls. So she'd go to Kay Bee or even Toys R Us, and they would give her their discount lol. One day we went to Kay Bee and walked out with about $100 worth of Ninja Turtles and I think GI Joe's for maybe $60 if that. I'll never forget that day we had like 12 different figures and vehicles.

Anyways....I think damn near everything for this show between me, my brother, and our cousin who was/is a super nerd for Ghostbusters. He literally had everything you could think of toy related. I know this is going to sound WEIRD but I still remember the smell of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man figure lol.

I especially liked that skit she did the episode immediately following the last presidential election, where she sang that song and cried like a goddamned retard.

“Over-dramatic liberal cunt,” I believe is the name of the character.

Yes I watched as a kid. I remember being a tad frightened at The Boogey Man episode. Seeing it again was good for a chuckle.

As far as toys go I had a decent amount of them. Firehouse and Ecto 1 but not the helicopter or other vehicles. I got the Firehouse from Santa on Christmas. I remember running out to the living room and there it was all set up and ready to go. I didn't really have any relatives or friends my age around to swap toys. Cousins my age were mostly girls. I live in the middle of upstate NY nowhere. So it stunk but I had most of the essentials, even that Stay Puft, to keep me busy. It did have a unique scent. Maybe it was that old school toy plastic.

Christmas was usually how I got the bigger sets. From Castle Grey Skull to Firehouse to The Turtle Van. Found out years later my poor mother couldn't track down a Turtle Sewer set. I got the Van, the Pizza Launcher, a big ass Turtle tent, and a Turtle you chest that year. I didn't mind because I always used the Firehouse as a abandoned building the Turtles used as a hide out. I think my mom always just felt bad she couldn't find it. I didn't mind recycling toys though. Later when wrestling came into my life my Ghostbusters became job guys. For example, Ray and Egon became my "Brainbusters" because they were scientists and it seemed to fit.

I really wish I still had the big sets. My mother eventually gave them away when I out grew them. I still have some old figures from my Turtle chest I kept. I was pretty excited to see Wal-Mart carrying rereleased Ghostbuster figures which I plan to pick up sometime soon. I did get the recently released Monopoly Ghostbusters which was fun.

I have a feeling the two of us could have some great conversations outside the boards lol.

And dude....I think every one of my non-wrestlers found their way into the ring at some point in my childhood.

My friend and I once upon a time tried to start a BATTLE BEASTS wrestling dice game. He was about 5 years older, a single child, and was just getting into Dungeons and Dragons. He would also collect Battle Beasts.

Years later I would try to help my 2 sons create a wrestling dice game with the massive amount of figures they have but they gave up on it lol.

I agree, if we ever cross paths we could probably have some fun.

Dice game sounds fun enough. I have DragonStrike from when I was younger. Broke that out about a month ago and played a few rounds with the family. Never played D & D but get the feeling I could probably pick it up real quick.

I also dug out my Batman Returns 3-D board game and Splat to play. I had to buy fresh play dough for Splat but was squishing my kid's bugs in no time flat.

A couple years ago my son bought me the Crow "Fire It Up" board game. I still haven't found the time to dive into it but as a super huge fan of The Crow I have to before I die lol.
