Classic that someone who has never won the MMH cup would try and belittle it.

I suppose it's classic that the only person to ever retain it would also hold it in high regard.

If you look at it properly though it is the proper indicator of consistency.

Ok I only score 1 each week but still, its better than nothing...

Anyway I chose not to win anything to help with the integrity of the game....

A few years ago. I only remember not wanting to boast about it because it meant nothing compared to every other trophy available.

I find Derby to be a good traditional club and I have as being in and around the top division.

Problem with Derby is everytime they come up they do absolutely nothing so its a waste of a space.

    Bricking it today.

On paper I think we lose. They battered us recently etc and Grealish is a mad ting. In my heart though is Mason Mount and his lovely face smiling after mangling in a winner.

Well played Rosk. The hurt has taken a back seat right now to eye rolling at sky. It had absolutely no bearing on the result obviously, But given how the story came back around after we beat Leeds and how many times our Chairman, Manager and any one at the club have been asked before and after the match about Chelsea I do wonder what their fucking game is.

Ok,For example sky interviewed our chairman before and after todays game asking if there had been contact from Chelsea. In what world would his answer of changed in that timeframe? I get Frank going back would be a big story but they are taking the fucking piss a bit mate.

I have no issue with Villa they deserved to win on the day and when all is said and done I think it was just one game too far. This summer is going to be key, With several out of contracts and loanees going back one would think the academy will be utilised more as well as young signings ftom L1 and 2. Loan signings as well I assume.

    It's anybody's next year.

All you need is a couple of unbelievable loan signings who give everything for you like Tyrone Mings, Axel Tuanzebe and Tammy Abraham did for us.

Couple that with the best bargain in history like John McGinn, a superstar from your youth setup like Jack Grealish, and you're set for promotion lads.

Well. It's a big 9 weeks ahead for Smith to get the squad ready for the Prem.

Back on loan: Tuanzebe, Mings, Abraham, Hause, el Ghazi - all of whom we should look to bring back where possible

It's time to go: Adomah, Hutton, McCormack, Tshibola, Bjarnason, Jedinak.

    That leaves

GKs: Steer (decent), Kalinic (crap), Nyland (no idea)
Defence: Chester (fucked), Taylor (a bit crap), Elmo (alright), Elphick (below average(
Midfield: Grealish (God), McGinn (Jesus), Hourihane (decent), Whelan (surely not cut out for Prem now), Lansbury (constantly dead), Green (green)
Forwards: Kodjia (never played in Prem and wasteful), Davis (green)

We need about 7 players at least. I trust Smith knows what he's doing, but we need to get moving sharpish given the new transfer window rules.

Surely you don't want to buy too many, look what happened to Fulham last season. I haven't seen a huge amount of Villa this season but from what I have seen/know about players from previous years, I'd say you need a striker, a centre back and maybe a winger as priorities?

TBH I always worry a bit when a team goes up on the back of a load of loanees. In all likelihood you won't get many of those back - Mings and Abraham almost certainly not, as you'd expect both of them to be part of the first team for Bournemouth and Chelsea next year. Grealish, McGinn and Hourihane does strike me as a strong, balanced centre mid set up though.

Surely it depends if Mings wants to push for it or not. Why would he be guaranteed a starting place over Cook/Ake/Mepham at CB, when he was left to go on loan in January? Played 17 games for them in 42 months (admittedly with injuries) but if we go balls out with a decent offer, I'm not sure they could turn it down when their only other way of making money is probably through selling Fraser at this point?

He should be our priority signing of the window without doubt.

We apparently have options to buy El Ghazi and Hause which is good, and the option to match any transfer bid that comes in for Mings.

Abraham is almost certainly a non-starter unfortunately given the Chelsea transfer ban. If that hadn't happened, I'd reckon we'd have a shot.

Oh it didn't really occur to me that you might be in to buy him, I assumed you were talking about another loan. He does look very good. Abraham is a funny one, I don't think he's good enough for Chelsea but their transfer ban means they might have to keep him in the squad for a year. You could always sign Vincent Janssen to replace him.

Mings said "hopefully mate" when asked on video if he was staying at Villa not 4 days ago, and now we're in the PL I'm sure he'd like to stay if he could. So I guess it's on us to do a big enough reasonable bid to get him. He's had nothing but love for the place since his arrival so it's on us now I reckon.

Hope he does go, England could do with a left footed (?) centre back coming through the ranks. How old is he, 22/23?

He's a top bloke. Pleased for him and pleased for you. Funnily enough we actually get an extra million from you now due to the Hogan deal as you got promoted. Half the new Danish midfield lad paid for already.

I'm less worried about him looking back here for players now, I think if you stayed in the Champ and got the Grealish money he'd be after atleast one of Maupay, Benrahma and Sawyers. Maupay is probably off anyway mind.

Hear we are going back in for Lolley. Will take a lot to get him I imagine, but he'd be a quality signing. One of the absolute best in the Championship, and a Villa lad to boot. Him, McGinn and Grealish

McCormack must be loving the extra pay next season despite not playing for Villa for almost two years.

Who on earth would take him at the wages he's currently getting?

And despite Jedi and his immense beard, he's got no place in the prem, barely even in the championship... But he's still got a year on contract doesn't he? Or is he off and probably coming to Australia for one last hurrah?

Jedinak can have a year of free wages for his penalty in the shootout and celebration afterwards alone. He could easily play a role in the Championship for a team needing experience. He played a fair bit at CB for us and got outpaced a lot, as he's lost his legs almost completely now. Still got a great leap on him and made of strong stuff mind.

I have to have hope that we aren't going to be doing stupid transfers in the coming few months for over-the-hill bollocks looking for a pay packet and putting it down to "experience". Micah Richards ffs. It's not the Dean Smith philosophy so I have confidence, but the last few years in the Prem have left a rather sour taste.

As for McCormack... I don't even know what to say. Cost us £12m, scores three goals, gets fat, doesn't turn up to training because his gates were locked at home, goes on loan to four clubs (three of which wanted rid when they realised he couldn't be arsed to run)... and is now going to get £3.5million for the next year through sitting on his arse, not bothered about his career. Everything I hate about the modern footballer.

He was half okay for one club down here and absolutely dire for the other. How a bloke with that talent can be that shit in a league as bad as ours is pretty disgraceful.

We had a similar conversation about Jack Rodwell.

Ah well, back to the drawing board again. If the drawing board doesn’t say ‘must buy a goalscorer’, then we need to go back to the drawing board to back to the drawing board.

Talk of Smith going for Maupay for £18m.

    Or £6m + Hogan. Deal?

I'd rather have the promotion and double victory over you to be honest.

Adomah, Hutton, Elphick, Jedinak all released already before the Prem. Brutal, but has to be done.

From what I'm hearing it's a little bit of cash too, but agree, think it's a good move for all involved.

Jota can be out of this world but so often doesn't perform to the level you think he should. The Prem might actually suit him better.

Jota is a great signing and a good price. Dean got the most out of him and knows how to play to his strengths. Look forward to seeing him in the Prem.

Jota wins by default. McCormack has never been a Premier League player and has been released.

What other player other than Maupay am I suggesting is worth that much? The other one was Mepham who we already sold for a wedge. In all seriousness closer to 20m is reality but as always with our transfers the club has a valuation for each player and until it's met they don't go. See Maupay in Jan. We had like 30m of player sales last year so we aren't under any pressure to sell anyone let alone someone who only joined last year on a four year deal.

Predictably Sky say the club agrees
"Aston Villa have seen a move for Said Benrahma knocked back by Brentford, Sky Sports News understands.

The Bees do not want to sell the Algeria winger this summer and are understood to have made it clear it would take a huge offer for them to even consider his sale."

Just making it clear when we talk about this valuation stuff. We'll definitely overprice players based on importance to us, length of contract, how much we actually think someone might pay for them etc. We used to be so shit at this before Benham and now we end up getting big fees for our players every time. When we sold Forshaw he didn't play until Wigan finally ponied up the fee we wanted. Same with Tarkowski and Burnley. Mepham we just flat out rejected Bournemouth's bids until Jan. Some obviously aren't worth it. Scott Hogan. Jota to a certain extent. Our whole team ended up playing to their strengths. But clubs pay it anyway because the transfer market is so inflated and we play it well. Bit better than selling DJ Campbell for 50k in a promotion run season.

In terms of value as in what I think it would take for them to accept the offer
    Maupay and Benrahma around 20m
Watkins 10m or so. Didn't have a good year. Wouldn't mind cashing in if someone wants to pay that.
Konsa probably next highest, England U21 around 10m too. Big future. Like he's currently not actually worth 10m but as he's young and we will play him to develop him why would we sell for less. If that makes sense.
Rico Henry probably 5m? Great player but so many injuries.
Sawyers last year of contract probably 5m. Rolls royce of a player
Kamo in same position. Not as much as Sawyers. Few mil.
Bentley couple of mil. Someone buy him ok.
    Canos I have no idea.
Jeanvier we signed for around 2m last year. We wouldn't sell him for that but with injuries he hasn't played enough to up it much.

Remember we have a lot of young talent and give them plenty of games and a lot inexperience and players finding their feet doesn't always equal results on the pitch even if individually teams would pay a lot for them. Players like Konsa had some big ups and downs throughout the year. But he'll still fetch a fair wedge if anyone wanted to pay it. We'll see when we sell them if any of this is accurate.

From what I hear it's more the owners are unhappy with Monk. Given these are the same people who sacked Rowett while we were out of the play-offs on goal difference, I can buy that. Apparently they aren't a fan of his football philosophy or his potential signings. They're after more expansive, creative football and signings. Because that worked so well with Zola, Redknapp and and the fucking points deduction.

When it comes to community and social, they are genuinely some of the best owners in football. When it comes to football decisions, they seem to be somewhat clueless.

We're not there yet, there is some push back which is being heard and felt, but for this to even be something which has crept up on us after a season in which every single Blues fan was overjoyed with - team solid, no relegation worries, management in place who get the club, absolute belief that next year the play-offs are a realistic target - is just insane.

They're meeting again tomorrow morning apparently. Bowyer was offered 200k on a 1 year deal. Lampard is on 2m a year so bowyer quite rightly wants at least a bit more

Roland is a crank though and that statement on the website today was absurd, especially as Bowyer was under the impression talks were still ongoing. It seems to me efl fit and proper test isn't fit and proper....
