I've said before - if we don't go up, he'll leave and with our very best of good will.

He received the ball with eight men in front of him. Mentally good. It's his time now. I hope he owns the playoffs.

Can you please just stop being difficult and let us have him?

His feet are unreal. The way he moves the ball onto the winger is mad, then the way he skips past a defender on the edge of the box. He just makes it look so easy and natural.

Villa have won eight in a row for the first time since 1975. Pretty unbelievable stuff we are playing right now. We have a real chance of beating anyone in the playoffs if this confidence continues. Mind you, I said that last year...

Good stuff today and now its in our hands, Nothing would make me happier to keep shitty Boro and Pulis out of 6th especially after it emerged this week that after their chairmans moaning about Our, Sheff Wed and Villa finances our chairman offered him a private viewing of our books but he declined

Still can't believe it. Ridiculous season for us. We've only lost 6 games in the league, 3 of them in August!

    Good for you.

It was our final home game of the season and we were instructed not to invade the pitch so the squad and staff could do a lap. It's called respect.

    This whole thing is bollocks.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that goal, the onus is on the referee to stop the game for an injury. It’s not even a consistent fair play action. If any player stops playing before the referee has blown their whistle, they are the ones at fault.

Bielsa is a crafty old devil. Literally nothing at stake, he can afford to play the hero. Think he does that half way through the season?

Villa had kicked it out for Forshaw not long before, and Leeds gestured as though they were kicking out.

Not sure how I feel about potentially playing Leeds in the play-offs. On the one hand beating them would be beautiful, On the other them knocking us out would make me ill.

I agree about that, particularly in the Championship where time wasting is so bad. The issue for me is that Roberts stopped the game to kick it out and then played on when the Villa players had stopped. So Bielsa did the right thing.

I definitely under-estimated Sheffield United. I didn't quite understand how dynamic their system is with the centre-backs. They are a lot of fun to watch when it works. I don't think they get enough credit for that and hope they can keep it up next year

Totally I think that's the issue for me to is that he stopped then played the ball. I know that everyone is meant to play to the whistle etc but weirdly I think sometimes stopping forces the other teams hand to put the ball out so understand why it happens. If they start tracking runs they are playing on as well so Leeds are liable to play on.

    That's bloody highly unlikely mate.

Leeds playing Ipswich away who are gash, West Brom playing Derby needing to get a result if you don't turn the Swans over.

Is that the first time that has happened, where not only was the ban overturned but the 'victim' gets punished instead? Great stuff anyway.

    - - - Updated - - -

I still really want Leeds to go up because they're a proper fucking team and Bielsa is brilliant, but if not I'd be happy enough with VIlla or Derby. Please not fucking West Brom or Boro. Please.

We were out fought and out thought again.

Dissapointed. I don't think the penalty should have been over-turned. The replays I saw did seem to show bogle getting kicked it probably would have been soft though and not entirely deserved.

Huddlestone with the forearm smash was a bit stupid too.

Think we should go young and pacey tbh. Stretch the pitch. Nugent can't do that anymore

Lol. And yes I know they won the European cup. It isn't the only measure.

    5) Everton
    6) Aston Villa

Your list is arbitrary and weird. Club size is more fluid than anyone cares to admit. Imagine thinking most of these clubs are bigger than Chelsea or City right now I bet you couldn't even more than half the forest team for fucks sake probably for the last decade.

Fanbase, history, success. Chelsea and City only really have the artificial success from the oil money etc. West Ham are a bigger side than Chelsea.

You're basing it on childhood memories and then trying to get one over on teams who have in recent years surpassed you. Nothing else.

You talk about fanbase, history and success then list sheffield wednesday. This despite the fact Man City had won more before the oil money even came in than them. You've put them in there because the fucking fa cup semi used to be played there and because of Andy Linighans goal. There's nothing wrong with favouring teams because you have warm and fuzzies about them as a child or younger man but jesus christ at least cop on to it.

Or explain why Sheffield Wednesday are there when they haven't won the 1st division in 90 years. Haven't won the FA cup in 85 years. Fanbase? According to this average attendance hasn't topped 30k in over 50 years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...y_F.C._seasons

I'm not demanding you put Derby or someone else in here btw you not having them on a list of teams your arbitrarily think are 'BIG' is your own business

Well that was emotional. Ended up watching extra time and penalties with Beefy, Alex, Mik and Glen. It’s going to be pretty fucking shit to lose two playoff finals in a row if we do. Really hope we step it up a notch as we were nowhere near our best against the Albion, but just about deserved it across the two legs.

    That would be fun.

Honestly this is such a massive point for Aston Villa now. We've got an established team that really loves playing with each other, and are now very well balanced throughout the eleven. Tyrone Mings has been an absolute revelation for us, shoring up the back and being an absolute rock with a sweet left foot too. John McGinn is proving the be the best bargain we've had since Dwight Yorke, non-stop running and rarely loses the ball and an additional goal threat, and Jack Grealish is the best player in the Championship - far, far too good for it. Incredible to think that he was on the VP terrace from 4 years old and now he's our captain. Tammy Abraham gets tons of goals - and in his interviews recently, he's suggesting massively that he would love to stay at Villa if we go up.

But, if we don't go up this year, Tammy will of course go back to Chelsea, Tuanzebe will go back to United (who's also been great by the way), and we will have to give up Grealish as he's already stayed with us a season longer than anyone reasonably expected him to, and simply deserves to play in the Prem and to get in the England reckoning now. Since he's been our captain, we've won 13 from 17 or something, and with him in the team in general our winning percentage is almost double.

To cut the core of any team like that would be devastating - very hard to replace a player like Grealish and a goalscorer like Tammy. If we were to be promoted, I fully expect a massive bid for Tammy and Mings to sign permanently, and keep this team that has won a startling amount of games when playing together. IF this team went up, I can't see us getting relegated in our first year.

The biggest game we've had for many, many years. I don't think my heart can take it at this point.

It was the Fa Cup final with Andy Linighan actually

Maybe I was a bit generous with Wednesday but they were a big side growing up.

Spot on. Unless you're treating it purely as a bragging exercise, a club's 'size' is only relevant to its ability to lure big name players, in which case history is only a tiny part of it. Fans of 'big' teams only talk about their history when their present isn't worth mentioning.

The Rosk if you absolutely promise we can have Grealish either way, I'll be happy enough with Villa going up. Otherwise I'm Leeds Leeds Leeds all the way.

Completely. Club size matters in a few cases
    - you have a kid who may get signed to a club but tbh you probably care more about their academy than if they won the league a lot in the 70's
    - if you are a fan of a lower league team and get a cup draw in which case I can guarantee you would rather have City than Forest
    - you are looking to sponsor a club or something

Rest of the time who the fuck cares. Most football clubs are only the same in name to what they were 20 years ago let alone further than that. Most have lost all sense of touch with the community, it's one of the reasons that what huddersfield have been doing is so impressive. Wonderful effort by them and that's the sort of real connection that matters more and has a longer fucking impact to me anyway.

I am really turning into an old bastard these days

Would say Villa are favourites especially considering form since Grealish came back and them clattering us last time we played them.

Be interesting to see what Frank does. They targeted Bogle very heavily in both games.

Villa definitely favourites. From a quick google Derby didn't have Mount for either game they lost so that might mean they can actually score a goal this time who knows.

I think you going up is better for the other Championship clubs - I know you'll lose Grealish etc if you stay down but the money you get will enable you to spend spend spend and with a full pre-season in charge Smith will have you well set up to smash everyone. Derby might struggle a bit more with FPP although they wiggled out of one problem with that already and will lose all their loanees.

Money can only do so much when you’re a Championship club not based in London. I love Smith but it’s bloody difficult to replace

A 27 goal striker (Hogan didn’t work, Kodjia is decent by not that level)
A top class centre back (Mings and Axel go back, our defence was shite before them)
The best player in the Championship at the heart of every attack you make

That’s the core of the team, and even if we played the full team for the entire season, the results would still have us hovering around 2nd/3rd

I do want you to go up, but that's more to do with it helping the strength of football in the area if you did and it'll make a lot of my friends happy. But I'm more likely to cheer on ISIS as they're chucking me off a building than lend my voice to a team including Jack Grealish. Especially when he still has that stupid fucking haircut. How long can that thing persist?

So I'll be cheering for Derby, hoping Villa win, knowing whatever the result it ends in pain in Small Heath.

    What do you mean "Everton?!"

We are up there on any metric you would use! Not above City and Chelsea obviously (their omission is weird) but seeing as we are top 10 in honours, fanbase and finishing positions for the best 10-15 years then why wouldn't we be on there?

Yes true, sorry. I was just confused at the obvious omissions.

Jim, you've created an enemy for life in @MMH now. He hasn't been posting for a while and has never won any real trophy at RFF but this sort of thing will really fucking grind his gears.
