It was a great game. Proud of the boys there and, with a few decisions going against us, I feel that the draw was probably fair. They created the better chances but we matched them across the pitch I felt. Sweeney

In what comes as really shocking news, Micah Richards is retiring at the end of his contract with Villa at the end of the season. He last played in October 2016. What a fucking horrible cunt.

What happened to him? He was so good at City for a while and then it seemed like he just disappeared.

Fantastic game, awful refereeing, and the stadium is insane for a club of that size.

I only turned on for the actual game. Did BT go through the whole stadium and surrounding area etc?

He appeared to just give up on football and do a Jack Rodwell. Sit there on £60k a week pretending to be injured. Nice life.

Sad if true, I always wonder in those situations if there's more to it than that. With a handful of ludicrously talented exceptions, professional footballers have to work insanely hard to get where they want to be, and it doesn't seem logical that someone with that mindset would just give up and sit on his hole rather than try to play for the club again. I think Rodwell is slightly different in that he was good enough to go elsewhere but (understandably IMO) was unwilling to lose the big wages he was on at Sunderland, unless that is the issue with Richards not playing at Villa?

BBF I didn't see the build-up, I just noticed how big and impressive the stadium looked on screen compared to most non-league grounds - they did mention that it has a 42-acre site or something, and the ground looked (to my absolutely untrained eye) like it could easily be expanded further? As we spoke about before, I was mainly impressed because I remember Underhill and didn't realise they'd moved. Even more impressive is that it's got a 'proper' name, presumably there is some mysterious backer for all this because a stadium sponsor would seem like a necessity for a ground as big as that in non-league.

TBH I was just fuming that there was no mention of the Japanese Centre.

Yeah the site is huge and incorporates our training pitches too (we've had plenty of international sides use it, I think Brazil did when they played a friendly with Nigeria (?) a few years back etc) as well as five a side pitches, restaurant, a couple of bars, starbucks and some other little bits. We've got our own little medical centre with MRI machines and the like so our physio side of things is top notch. No backer as far as I know, just Tony K as chairman as he's been for all my time supporting them. Our main shirt sponsor is Samsung and I know the MRI machines etc were given to us by them so I assume we're getting a fair whack from them. We're pretty much self sufficient as a club though, all the facilities are rented out whenever they are free and our ticket prices are stupid (I think a standard seat at a standard national league game is £23.

We've certainly got the infrastructure to be a decent league one club I think but we've churned through managers, given long contracts to some bang average players and can't resist the sweet, sweet cigarette burn of Martin Allen every 18 months.

Hogan gone on loan to Sheffield United.

What a massively predictable waste of money that was.

Looks like our punishment will be 12 points.

Frustrating, because why ignore the fucking embargo you daft cunts, and I'm sure out form would have take us to the play-offs.

We deserve the deduction and even with it unless we immolate ourselves we're not going down. All in all, could have been much worse.

How do you even ignore an embargo, You can't just sign someone and nobody notice

    - - - Updated - - -

I mean clearly someone did notice but to even attempt it is nuts.

Wasn't even like he was a non-league change in your pocket buy. Big fee and lots of promotion they were signing him. Just weird.

I think the more pressing issue is why Loan out Stockdale and have Kuszczak twiddling his thumbs but persist with Calamity Camp in goal.

Your man scores the goal of his life broadcast on live telly but it's filmed by a mobile phone and no replay shown, in front of a 30% full stadium and even Peter doesn't care.

That's also how all those League of Ireland goals get on the Puskas shortlist. I think it's one of the best goals I've seen.

If a club can’t contain their fans from assaulting a player, then of course it’s their fucking problem. Their fanbase is ridden with cunts who have nothing else in their lives.

    Sweet justice today.

This isn’t the first time it’s happened at this shithole of a stadium. When Enckelman let one under his feet, a fan came on and slapped him round the cheeks. It’s a shithouse club run by shit cunts with a lot of shithouse people for supporters, forever in our shadow. Burn the place to the ground and let the good few fans that are there come support the Villa. We are a forgiving lot.

What if he had a knife. Thousands of fans would still probably cheer him on like a hero like they did today. Even the steward tried to get kicks in ffs.

In other news, Jack Grealish will be a superstar for England one day. He’s just absolute quality.

In further news, I absolutely adore Tyrone Mings. He’s a fantastic defender. Hope we can get him full time next season.

I just do not get it at all. Even if you have the impulse to go and smack someone you don't know simply because they play for a rival side, even if you take the morality out of it...it's just such a ridiculously brainless thing to do. Tens of thousands of witnesses. Police and stewards everywhere. An audience of literally tens, if not hundreds, of millions once it inevitably goes viral. There is zero chance of getting away with it, you're 100% guaranteed to get severely punished to deter copycats, and what do you get out of it? A few seconds of release, and then your life is ruined. I just honestly do not understand it....is it pure rage, an unplanned act he will immediately regret? Or had he decided to do it beforehand? It's so far beyond "thick arsehole" territory, even an idiot must understand that the cost-benefit of doing something like that is stacked against them.

Also Grealish is the absolute man, can we please have him in the summer The Rosk?

I've stopped underestimating the depths of stupid people. Football grounds around the country are full of animals like him, difference being for some reason his switch has flipped. Probably a dare with his drongo mates, maybe somebody else in the group will have to drink paint or set their head on fire now.

He would absolutely fucking kill it for you. So if he's going to anyone (assuming we don't sneak into 6th place and go on to win the playoffs - 16/1 current odds), then I'd rather he go to you than sit on the bench somewhere as yet another young English star that a money club wanted to up for their home-grown obligations. If he doesn't leave in the summer I don't know whether I'd be impressed by his commitment to his boyhood club or be shocked at his lack of ambition.

The difference with him in the team is staggering. Relentlessly strong on the ball and just carries the whole team's play up the pitch seamlessly.

I don't really know where to start.

How much of a inbred cunt you have to be to try to do that in the first place? The lies coming from the court today were bile inducing. That was no spur of the moment action. He waited until his back was turned, legged in on, threw a pathetically bad punch and then loved all of the attention. Not just him, but the fucking cunts who cheered him as he was taken off the park - fucking awful response from the stewards and police too, just one old fucker and handling the cunt with kid gloves - troglodyte dickheads.

I agree with Phil Neville, there has to be a message sent that if a fan of yours attacks an opposition player there will be consequences. All this "don't punish the real fans" thing is frankly pissing me the fuck off.

So, the game. On top of everything, on top of absolutely everything, how in the fuck did we lose that fucking game? Jack shitting Grealish, easily the best player in the fucking league, and three, that's 3, once again that is THREE players all backed off him in the 5 seconds before he scored. If David fucking Davies never played for us again after that I would not shed a tear. Chance after chance after chance. Our players, a few notable exceptions, are thick as pig shit. Seriously, watch them play, some of them have the football intelligence of a Windmill. Maghoma, Jota, Morrison and Dean being the worst examples. Harding is still young so might improve, but he's close to that list.

Craig Gardner. You could not make it up. I could never be angry at him, so we're back in a weird Agent Ridgewell type scenario, where a good player who represents the club really well somehow fucks up every time we play the Villa, you know, that team they used to play for, which costs us the game somehow.

But you know that, we score either of those golden chances and I think more dickheads take that as get on the pitch opportunity. So who gives a fuck.

Fuck football, fuck some of our cunt fans, fuck our stupid fucking players, fuck Jack fucking shitting fucking Grealish (yes, the poetry of the day for him to get the winner was nice, but still, it's Jacking cunting awful hair Grealish), fuck the Villa, fuck this fixture, fuck the fucking lot if it.

Please, go up. Please. I can't stand this shit another year.

It's bollocks even separating these people from real fans. As Beefy said on Twitter yesterday, their fandom is the exact reason they did it.

It’s good of you to take this stance. It’s not because you’re Blues I think a points deduction should happen - a clear message needs to be sent that if you do this “on behalf of your club” your club will be fucked. So it’s on you. Otherwise my worry is that next year at Villa Park, some cunt Villa fan will do the same thing to Gardner or Kuntenbeld as “retribution”, and a section of fans will cheer it like yours did.

You’re due a win so if neither of us go up via the playoffs, your time will come again I’m sure, especially if Tammy and Jack won’t be playing for us next season.

That's not the same as saying they aren't fans though. To me that is an attempt to relieve football/the specific club of any responsibility (literally in some cases, as some people have tried to say he actually isn't a fan, just someone who paid £30 to go and punch a bloke he doesn't care about for no reason).

Still, Dave Cotterill reckons we could sort it out by having armed police at every game. I can't see any potential problems with that, so we can all relax safe in the knowledge that football violence is over.

They're a club with a history of this kind of incident. There's a reason they aren't allowed the lower tier at QPR, and other clubs, for example. But this was a scumbag and every fanbase has it's fair share of scumbags. This particular one did something terrible and was roundly condemned by club and football World.

When saying "he's not a fan", it means he's a scumbag and 99.9% of lawful matchgoing fans can justifiably distance themselves from his actions and suggest they want to disassociate themselves from scumbags wanting to do unlawful things. Nobody is absolving football or the club from any blame, but rightly putting into context that this is one scumbag doing a scumbag thing. It will be dealt with but it's not representative of the fanbase.

I would agree to a point, but how do you explain the thousands of fans who cheered him as he went off? I'm sure most of those people probably didn't agree with with it despite their cheering, and probably felt bad once the immediate thrill of seeing something mad had worn off...but that is the cultural context of what happened - it was only one person who ran on the pitch and hit Grealish, but that is just the worst end of a football culture where it is completely expected and accepted that you HATE your rivals. When the Sterling issue came up, the emphasis was (rightly) on the racial aspect, but the general feeling was that if the aggressor had said "fucking Manc cunt" rather than "fucking black cunt", as some people claimed, then it was essentially fine. That's where football is as a culture - the boundaries of acceptability are set incredibly wide, which fosters an atmosphere where aggression and hatred are seen as a part of the game. So it's obvious that the worst of society will take that slightly further and get into really serious shit like Sunday.

I don't know how well I've made that point, I've rewritten it a few times but it still doesn't seem like it quite explains what I mean. My point is that, hypothetically, if general abuse wasn't the norm among football fans and calling someone a cunt (or whatever) was seen as unacceptable, then people like Paul Mitchell would most likely satisfy themselves that going beyond normal acceptability to scream abuse at Grealish was enough to show just how passionate they are, just how much they hate their rivals. The fact that so much bad behaviour is accepted, that the bar for going beyond acceptability is set so high means probably nasty stuff like Sunday is almost inevitable, because there is an atmosphere of aggression and hatred where only your individual sense of decency keeps you from going too far. Not everyone is decent, and those that aren't will feel entitled to go a step beyond like on Sunday.

I'd explain it as mob mentality that a lot of normal people would've got caught up in, and largely seen as harmless in the moment. I think it's an extension of what you've said about the dangers of what's considered acceptable. If you go in any away end or home section next to the away end then there's a thousand people giving it large, singing songs about individuals on either side. I actually largely think it's harmless and the fact this goes off in every game every week with no further trouble is testament to that.

People at games are within bubbles. There's the context of being at a football game, well policed, where you can "banter" other fans and players without fear of repercussion. Probably when they look back at it in the cold light of day they'd think they were being silly but they know what they are putting themselves in a position for or they'd go in the family end. Everyone who has been to a football game has tested the boundaries of what would be considered acceptable outside of a football stadium.

I was at the game and I didn't see what happened or the severity of it until everyone was looking on their phones. Loads of people cheering him off were probably scumbags, while loads were probably just joining in with the crowd.

Not really. Villa are as bad anyway. They've had multiple arrests several times this season. The North Stand amongst the worst I've seen for idiots giving it large to away fans. Probably because they're completely separated.

Yes probably, because there’s no actual violence going to happen. Like screaming abuse at wrestlers, it is all theatre.

What happened here is about one million times worse. Trying to make excuses for thousands of people cheering a thug thumping a player from behind is a bit odd.

Every club does shit for charity. What does that matter? Like a racist being called out and immediately replying he’s got black friends. Enckelman got slapped in the face a few years ago too, remember.

Contradiction. "Excusing" North Stand singing unacceptable stuff as theatre but Blues fans a million times worse. Still just singing.

Both caught up in the context they're in, probably not considering full picture. Don't forget noone had a replay of what happened, most of the stadium didn't know what he'd done. We saw Grealish on the floor and the steward carting him off - it's easy to piece it together but not the severity.

As I say, they've got history so no excuses from me. It's not a bluenose issue - good and bad in all fanbases.

Also if you love stats and want to bring up arrests - for the third season in a row, Birmingham fans have the most arrests out of anyo other club in the top five leagues (95, Sheff Utd next with 62).

' The Times is reporting that former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness is "acting as a broker" for the Rams in that search for investors.

Wyness lined up American investors when Villa owner at the time, Tony Xia, was looking to sell up.

And according to The Times, the 61-year-old Scot, who parted company with Villa last June, is "again attracting interest from the American market" in relation to Derby.'

Norwich fans will feel daft for their reaction there when they see the replay.

Brentford fan arrested for alleged racist abuse of Derby's Duane Holmes
In separate incidents, Wilfried Zaha receives alleged online racist abuse; Wigan report alleged racist abuse of Nathan Byrne on Twitter to police; Northampton players say team-mates were racially abused on pre-match walk in Nottingham

Just a depressing header from a article on sky sports.

@Torn I would like your take here, I have never had Brentford down as 'one of those clubs' where you might expect this and clearly you can't control one idiot. However it was noted on radio Derby commentary during the match that at least twice fans were hanging over the boards to give abuse to Ashley and the stewards did jack all.
My biggest gripe though is the Brentford fans reaction, The people supporting Holmes seemed to be in the minority to people blaming him or saying 'I was right next to it and it never happened, heard nothing'. In these cases don't be so desperate to defend your club and perhaps try and root out these cunts.

Also you can't hear a monkey gesture.

Without being there it's hard to give a viewpoint but it happened in the section where I sat for years and the accounts of what happened come from people I respect and trust to tell the truth so reading them I can understand why the reaction you perceive as negative has happened. If the lad in question did racially abuse someone then obviously I hope he's never seen at Griffin Park again but let's wait and see what's proven first.

Peter I would lump some money on Derby tonight, we've got Derrick Williams in central defence
Also the worst defensive record out of the 92, and more goals conceded than when we were relegated two seasons ago...

Fuck. Not ideal to have your best centre half sent off after half an hour in the middle of a six game winning streak. Fuck fuck fuck.
