Savages contract extension seems to mean we're paying him what we would have been and getting a year free.

Meaning we've taken half his wage off the budget for this season and moved it to next year.

    Handy

    Decent start for Cardiff.

I didn't even know they signed Anthony Gerrard. Going to watch the highlights on the BBC website now.

Last time I went to LR we got relegated so I'm in no hurry to go back there to be honest...

I have yet another wedding to go to that day anyway, the first game I can make this season is Derby at home on the 29th.

But Connor Wickham scored who I 'tipped for greatness' a few pages back

    2-2 now, hardly impressive though.

Nah, it's straight after the Wednesday cup matches.

I thought we'd lose tonight but we went safely through. Haven't lost to a lower-league team now since little Fulham in 1996

Fuck yeah! That's how Norwich are supposed to play. Just saw the goals and Grant Holt just ate their defence up. Stunning signing. What a man.

I think I'm gonna back Norwich for promotion despite your 7-1 defeat.

I'm glad your through because I'd love an East Anglian derby and another chance to embarrass you in the second round

A lot of teams lose the first game of the season and still go on to win the league.

Same as a lot of teams having that 1 abysmal result during the season. We've got ours out of the way first.

We'll be champions of League 1, and then next season we'll finish above you. Guaranteed.

Gillingham lost 7-1 away to Shrewsbury early on last season and they went up.

    5-0 away at Exeter tonight

Pellicori scored which is good to see. Carling Cups ours this year.

Didn't play on Saturday but he started tonight up at Cheltenham. Obviously I wasn't there but he seems to have done well.

I saw him in the warm-ups on Saturday and he's a fucking monster. Don't think I've ever seen someone that size play for us.

You can only go up one league when promoted mate, we'll be in the Premier by this time next year.

I am gonna put a fiver on you going up because the odds must be decent after Saturday.

    Yes.

    That out ranks weddings.

On the subject of Derby, I have a mate who is a Peterborough fan and he went to PP on sat with his gf in the hope of getting a ticket on the day. All sold out so he was wandering round looking for a tout when someone from the Derby staff approached him asking if he wanted tickets. He said yes, so she just gave him two free tickets. Which he then managed to swap for ones in the Posh end.

If Steve Claridge or any other cunt on tv mentions their "massive fanbase" again I'll fucking scream. They literally do just give tickets away.

Still sell more season tickets than you though don't we? Charge in with the baseless jokes about phone contracts which have already been disproven.

I'ld rather they gave out a few hundred free tickets if it means it's fuller and will have a better atmosphere than those seats being empty. It's progressive management by the board.

They've been fielding calls from Premiership clubs about all their new revenue streams

    1. No it hasn't been disproven. But don't try.
    2. I would love Forest to do this so I agree with you.
    3. I just think it makes attendance tables etc unfair. You only have to look at the away support both teams get to see how many turn up when its full price.

It has been disproven. They pay the full whack to the club, which I find odd as I would think they would get a discount.

The freebies given this year in terms of season tickets are kids tickets and I think there has been fair few of them but again it's a nice thing for the club to do. The fact is there is 30 odd thousand people in the stadium every week. That's what the attendance is mate. Massive number for the size of the area and the other clubs in the immediate area.

Not really mate. Notts got 8k I think for their first match.

I estimate we will get 26k against WBA. Therefore we would have 34k full paying customers if Notts didn't exist.

Yeah but support isn't floating in massive terms probably in terms of 10%. It means there is competition for permanent support. People aren't alternating between County and Derby on a regular basis etc.

Countys numbers will rise if they continue to batter that league probably at your detriment unless Billy gets a promotion charge on

We're in a situation of 2 shite seasons in a row. If we were down to our hardcore we'ld probably be about the same numbers as you but because of these things we're what 6-7 thousand better of each week.

    Worth it.

No, my point is that you are competing with no other clubs for support. If you like football in Derby then you only have one local club.

Wheras some weird fuckers in Nottingham would rather go and watch Notts. So thats 8k fans who like football who would potentially be our fans.

Nah that's crazy talk. The way things work these days most of the kids in the area will support United etc growing up and there's always going to be people who fancy going to Notts to watch forest/whoever or even Birmingham etc. The catchment area is so littered with clubs that there's supporters everywhere

Yeah of course there will be cross over but you can't dispute that a city with one football club has got an advantage (attendance wise) over a similar sized city that holds two clubs.

I took my girlfriend to the city ground yesterday (she supports leeds). She said "oh its quite quaint isnt it and it could do with a lick of paint".

Yeah there will be some but that will come to show more if County move up divisions.

I don't just mean Nottingham and Derby. I mean any two cities that fit those criteria.

Newcastle and Sheffield to give another example.

The criteria is a bit different though isn't it because Newcastle have had more success recently and Sheffields teams are on a similar level. I acknowledge it's going to make an impact on the attendance but not in a direct way of adding 8k to your attendance in a hypothetical sense.

We've given tickets away to make up the numbers and fill closer to capacity but with the season ticket figures we still have a large fanbase by championship standards

But neither Sheffield team would ever get 50k plus in this day and age (like Newcastle do). Even if they were in the Prem.

But if there was a team called "Sheffield Rovers" instead, then they might.

If they were in the premiership and the other was down a few leagues they would. It would take a while for it to happen but eventually I think it would

To be fair there is no point debating hypothetical situations like that.

Why the fuck did we send out Maloney and Heath on loan before getting adequate cover in?

Neither are great but we will now have to play two 17/18 year olds tonight or play midfielders at full back.

I haven't seen it but I heard he had a very good game.

He is a decent player when I've seen him, not sure whether he is Championship standard but he would certainly play tonight if he was here.

    Sorry just had to ask.

He was given 2 tickets for the Derby end and then swapped them for 2 in the peterborough end. Who did he swap them with a tout? The club? A Peterborough Fan who had a change of heart?

    The club.

I can only assume when they say "sold out" in the away end they must keep a few back for whatever reason. Because he definitely had his own seats.

So he went to the club and I assume told them he had bought tickets for that game and that they were in the wrong end. How odd. Most clubs would tell him to sod off. Guess we're just nice. Was reading a story today about how Tom Glick himself has helped with a lot of ticketing issues as he's a bloody nice bloke

No he told them that someone from DCFC gave him two free tickets outside (which they did) but upon closer inspection he realised they were in the Derby end and as he was a Posh fan he didnt want any potential aggro so could he swap them.

Nah it's all gone a bit quiet.

We're massively short on strikers but quite heavy on shit keepers (DEENEY ARGH) so we've asked Jimmy Walker to come and train with us. He's West Hams 3rd choice keeper btw.

Carroll isnt even bloody gone. We don't need another keeper until he is. He's one of the best backup keeper in this league so rather than putting Deeney on the bench lets have Roy there seeing as we're paying his frigging wages.

The rumours for a striker and to be honest we could probably do with them before tommorow so they can be on the bench at least for sat are

    Gallagher
    Murphy (Arsenal youth)
    Rasiak on loan

Championship lads, how good is Aron Gunnarsson? He seems to be getting rave reviews every week. Premiership class? Who are likely to be the best players in the Championship this year? Johnson and Yeates look like they will tear a few teams a new arse for Boro this year, and Ledley is an obvious choice, but who else?

Rob Hulse will be good, He's made for The Championship.

That Yeates fella at Boro looked good against Sheff Utd, He was everywhere, like he had red bull instead of blood.

Still Think Rhys Williams is their best man though, big year for him.

The fella Treacy that Sheff Utd had on loan looks good aswell.

and you've got good old Matejovsky

Jay Tabb is going to destroy the Championship. Chopra will top score.

He hasn't had a fantastic start at West Brom yet but keep a look out for Simon Cox. The Peterborough players stepping up a level are ones to watch, Mackail-Smith, McLean, Boyd and Lee. And TUNCHEV at Leicester.

I like Gunnarsson a lot. He came to prominence for me last year against Newcastle in the League Cup. Second best player on the pitch (Milner was incredible, his last game for the club). I think it's difficult to say if he's Premier League class, Coventry are a bit pants but most times I've seen him play he's been impressive and the focal point of their team. He's got fantastic commitment and is rock hard, his throw ins are massive.

I like his attitude too, he doesn't have himself an agent.

An obvious one but I think Ched Evans will excel at Sheffield United. Joe Mattock has just moved from Leicester to WBA and should do well there (shocking to think he's still only 19). The front 3 at Peterbrough will impress if they can continue their form from last season, Mclean, Mckail-Smith and Boyd.

This is all off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing someone.

EDIT: We were discussing QPR in here the other day, and I think they look strong. The likes of Routledge and Taarabt I'm sure you know all about but Forlin (if he turns out any good), Cook, Rowlands etc. are all class Championship players.

David Clarkson at Bristol City too.

    Pretty much our whole midfield.

Routledge, Cook, Rowlands, Buzsaky, Faurlin, Balanta and Taarabt.

Chris Cohen, Radoslaw Majewski & Paul Anderson.

The new Sheff Utd keeper Bunn is highly rated.

Barnes & Addison are good players for Derby. Probably both cunts though.

    Bywater is better.

Carroll is better but is over paid.

Deeny is the shite one and he's in to be 3rd choice so signing Walker when Price is meant to be back next year is madness.

Yeates doesn't look too special to me.

    N'Guessan. Davies (Derby). Boyd.

Ledley hasn't done THAT much at this level. Chopra should topscore. Routledge is brilliant down here. McGugan for Forest. Shiels for Doncaster.
McCann for Scunthorpe will trouble a few defenses with that left peg

Good player with real potential, comes across as a good lad who recognizes that he's young and needs to be playing first team football to improve, as Alex said he had a great game against Newcastle in the Carling Cup last season and had an even better one against Blackburn in the FA Cup, scored a great volley that day.

He's probably not Premiership class though at the moment, not at a top half club anyway. He's only played one season of first team football and at times still looks quite raw, he missed a few chances he should of been putting away last season.

You just fall in love with the guys passion though, he's confident, fearless, committed and I wish he would stay here forever but it's well known he's being watched by a few clubs and I imagine if he develops as rapidly as he did last season, then he'll probably be getting offered first team football at a higher level next season.

s_o_f what do you think of Sammy Clingan? He looked pretty tidy against Ipswich the other day.

Ohh dear that's red rag to Red Dog.

He's improved a lot over the past 2 years. Think he now has the ability to control a midfield against good players. Aggressive and seemed to do well for Norwich.

I think he's a very good signing at this level and think he could do a job at premiership level, a specific job but a job none the less.

His range of passing isn't brilliant but in pure terms of shackling someone and breaking play up he's brilliant. Never stops running.

Yeah as it was a friendly he didn't get stuck into challenges and won very little. As that's the main part of his game I admire him for......

Brilliant. Garath Macleary and Chris Cohen as full backs again tomorrow. Against West Brom.

One is a winger and one is a central midfielder for anyone that doesn't know.

MacLeary is a good player. He'll be ok as a fullback. Also Brunt isn't that pacey so you wouldnt have to worry about him blasting past Cohen or anything so it could be worse.

Morrison still there? He might give MacLeary a test or two with his pace but it should be alright. It could be worse you could be playing Eddie Lewis at LB in the premiership

He is a good impact substitute, I wouldn't have him in my first eleven yet in his natural position, let alone full back against a team that just come down from the Prem.

That said, there is no other option.

Cohen is a decent left back but we lose our best midfielder when he plays there.

    Probably be 3-3 or something.

Wow ok I assumed Cohen would be on the right. Is MacLeary not all left-footed?

No, Cohen is left footed, Macleary is right footed.

Does MacLeary not play on the left wing? I thought he did against Derby.

Yeah he can do, him and Anderson swapped a bit last season.

But they are both right footed.

sof loves McCleary, he once said he was better than McGugan and the one player he would take from Forest

Yep. Except I think I said he had more impact in the games against Derby rather than was flat out better. He made things happen when we played them and made me worried. McGugan can be lazy a lot of the time as well.

Madness. If Billy Davies didn't have such a massive ego he would be an amazing manager.

Also this 15-20 million going to sheffield united will be massive if they stay in this league. If they get promoted this season they've already got a big bankroll to make a real go of it. They beat us 4-2 at the weekend although that was mainly down to our shite defending. I can't see how someone like Blackwell would be able to organise a team for the premiership.

I'm stunned that Billy is doing this again. He also rode the shit out of Barnes early on and nearly forced him out of the club. McGugan is a top talent and he's probably just knocked 1m off his value and sped up his exit from the club. I can see B.Davies leaving in the next 7 months

Although I don't believe we'll miss Croft much. Whaley seems to have settled in very well.

Sammy would've just broken Platts head in the first minute therefore removing 4 of the goals instantly and then scored a penalty and you probably would've won.
