The funny thing is that it was his 12th ace, not his first.

It's really amazing. I didn't think he'd be able to play. I'm not sure if ankle dislocations just aren't that serious or if he's had them before so it's not unusual for him, but the way he popped it back in so quickly is definitely not how I would have reacted, lol. Good for him.

Sergio putting 5 in the drink yesterday was funny.

Tiger can still contend after finishing strong to get to +1 but he can't afford to mess around anymore.

Spieth looked great and may run away with it but he is also capable of choking. Obviously too early to anoint him but given his success at Augusta previously, it's scary to see him post -6 on day 1.

Spieth still has to play the 12th hole 3 more times. . .

It's shaping up to be a great Masters, that's for sure. And yeah, you're right Fro, Tiger can't mess around any longer. I'd love to see him charge up the leaderboard today.

I wonder what another Masters victory would do for Speith's Under Armor contract? I seem to recall hearing his contract is incentive-based, as most golf contracts are, and that each Major would give him a sizable increase.

Between the Par 3 competition and the first round yesterday, I'm jonesing to play some golf...and today it's snowing out.

not watching just checking scores and Spieth is +3 through 4 holes, yikes! I'm not anti Spieth but this is good because it opens up the field. Now about 7 guys tied for the lead at -3.

seems that the course is playing tough today based on the scores I'm seeing

Spieth blasted his first shot about 6 rows deep into the crowd and pine straw.

I haven't gotten to watch much and I'm not bothered by how tough the course is playing, but this call for Mickelson to withdraw is hysterical. Classic golf snootery

I think it was a funny move by Phil

I wasn't bothered by Phil at all. I liked him expressing his frustration with the setup and I wonder how many guys wanted to do the same thing. Phil's been my favorite golfer since I was a kid though, so I'd probably get a kick out of him doing anything.

I sort of like the idea of the course fighting back and being really difficult, but this felt unfair and cruel at times. And the difficulty seemed to vary so much based on the time of day and conditions. The competitive balance was thrown off more than I'd like with so much on the line, but I suppose that's just part of the game.

Damn, not a single post since the US Open..... Guess i'll be the resident golf guy...

Going into the weekend, I know there is a lot of ppl that want Tiger to make a charge, (ppl as in those who grew up watching Tiger destroy courses) but there is a good crop of guys up on the leaderboard and it is time to accept the fact that Tiger is now just that. One of the guys. And that's fine.

As for the current leaderboards, i'm pulling for Kisner. Guy spent his first few years on the Tour fighting to stay on, then fighting to get back on when he lost his card. Plus, I listen to him whenever he is on the ForePlay podcast, and he just seems like that dude that wants to roll out of board, throw on some shorts and a shirt, grab a beer and hit the tee. Common man golfer. I dig that. So I say GoKizGo

Tiger is making a charge! Seems that the course is very playable today, lots of birdies and eagles dropping.

US runs out to a 3-1 lead in the am and gives it all back and more in the afternoon. Looks like it will be 5-3 for the Euros after day 1.

Masters time is upon us. Who do you guys like this year? For you gamblers, who are you putting money on?

I'm doing some Draft Kings lineups and I went heavy on DJ, Bubba, Koepka, and Rickie Fowler. Personally I'm rooting for Fowler and I hope Tiger has a good showing.

Most of my money is on Bryson DeChambeau. The guy is just so interesting, unlike many front line stars.

Have some money wasted on Justin Harding, Keith Mitchell, Lucas Bjerregard and Matt Wallace.

Yawn. That response was about as dull as your average Wisconsin sports fan.

I don't like Tiger as a person, he possesses all the human traits I don't like, but as a golf fanatic, it's pretty amazing he has won any tournament again, especially the biggest major!

Alright you two think that's quite enough.

Incredible from Tiger today. I had hoped, but I did not anticipate he actually would win a major again before the end of last year. Even with the way he played towards the end of last year I still only had a small belief.

No one can draw like Tiger. I can't think of any one who can change the ratings of their sport quite like him. It will be interesting to see what the ratings end up being like.

I also like how the last time Tiger won the Masters was also the last time LeBron missed the playoffs.

My kids are 13 and 11. They asked me today why I was so into it and I realized neither of them were alive the last time he won the Masters.

I'm not into golf and haven't played since I was 18 but I even tuned in yesterday to watch and man am I glad that I did.

And Big Al, you're right that commercial just says it perfectly.

The things that he has been caught for are things that just about most of us have either done or come damn close to doing, so I never thought negatively of Tiger and really only ever felt bad for him especially through the scrutiny and injuries. He didn't deserve most of it. I mean hell, we root for people in sports all the time who have done much worse things.

I'd agree with this. In the grand scheme of things, Tiger didn't do anything terrible. I don't care about his family life because it's none of my business. As long as everybody is a consenting adult, not my business to get worked up over whether or not the dude is stepping out on his wife or girlfriend. The DUI is by far the worst thing he did because he put other people's lives at risk but, like you said, we root for people in sports who have done worse.

Koepka is having a pretty good first round at the Championship. Tiger had a couple double bogey's early but seems like he's turning it around.

First day of The Open down, and Tiger was out of it before I took my lunchbreak at work. I only got to see things on the app today, but from what I did see, man was Portrush a weird scene today with the weather. Especially in the afternoon/evening rounds. I'm glad Koepka had a good day, Rahm having a good day as well doesn't surprise me. What will surprise me is if he doesn't have a meltdown and shouting match at himself.

Friggin Rory though man. I saw "highlights" and just, wow. That has got to be absolutely gutting for him. Just to make the cut is going to be a near impossibility.

My personal wish would be for Kevin Kisner to win this. And I think Portrush is a good course for him. Doesn't have to hit it a mile off the tees (which he can't) and putting is the best part of his game. So if he can be accurate with irons and wedges, that could be the key. Dunno that he can pull it out, but i'm rooting for him anyways.

These announcers on the streaming feed keep saying "beautiful golf shot there." What the hell would it be? Not like Patrick Reed is out there shooting three pointers.

Nice to be able to stream it while at work though. Next up is Rory on one of the featured groups so hopefully he has a better day than yesterday. Don't imagine he'll make the cut though.

Rory blew it big time at home, but nice to see another Irishman Shane Lowry in the lead currently (I know the Open is in Northern Ireland but still).

Woods out, Michelson out. My boy Kiz barring a meltdown will make the cut, but most likely won’t make a run. Still a good leaderboard though at 12:20 EST. You can bet your ass I’ll be up at 0430 watching tomorrow morning.

It still really sucks for Rory though.

I’ll be in Belfast the first few days of my trip. The only things I know for sure me and my friend are doing is Titanic museum stuff and getting tattoos while there in Ogham. Think we are kind of playing it by ear after that. Then heading out to Coleraine for things like the Causeway, different castle ruins, I’ll play golf, she plans on gin distilleries. A trip to Bushmills distillery is certainly on schedule as well.

Damn, the last post in this was by me 6 months ago....

Fuck, i'll be our resident golf guy.

Waste Management Open starts tomorrow. What is clearly the most fun of the tournaments to go to as a spectator. Just a straight out party, especially the grandstands at the Par 3 16th. Would love to make it out there, maybe next year or the one following.

Rickie Fowler won last year, he is back. I'm interested in seeing guys like Hovland and Schauflee there. Bryson will be there, after getting put on the clock for slow play last week in Europe.

I was really hoping Patrick Reed would be there, just to see what those crowds are like with him, but alas, he does not appear to be in the field.

    Golf is back folks.

Tiger/Peyton vs Phil/Brady over 18 holes to benefit coronavirus relief efforts. This time it's free on TNT. Kind of interested in it only because I'd like to watch some golf but I don't think it'll be very competitive.

Not sure how they'll raise money though if it's not being played in front of fans. Maybe raffling game-used memorabilia afterwards? Like buy signed score cards, golf balls, hats, gloves, etc?

Why don’t you think it’ll be competitive? Who will win? And the money earned would be from tv advertisements.

    I’ll definitely watch this

The courses I play in my area are mostly closed. Can't even go to the driving range because that's closed as well. I drive by two courses every day on my way to work and it's killing me to not be able to play. I mean yeah it's a little cold now but I'd still play if they were open.

It’s def making me want to have a nice golf weekend next year though. I may go to West Palm Beach and play Jack’s public course down there. Or back to Bay Hill.

What I really want to do actually is a weekend at Erin Hills. I love the fact it is basically in the middle of nowhere out there

My boy is getting married later this year and we'd hope to do a golf weekend as his stag party. Only a couple guys in the wedding party play so the plan is to get to the casino a few hours before the rest of the guys, play a round, then do some of the normal stag party things. Possibly play another round the next morning before going home. Not sure if that'll work out now though. It's not till August so our fingers are crossed we can still get there.

Looks like The Masters is targeting November 9-15 for the tournament. Obviously that depends on a lot of different factors but let's hope it works out.

I just watched a highlights package of last year's event. I was in the US on holiday at the time so didn't quite grasp how good it was even with the Tiger love in.

Last years was great. I personally would have liked it better if Tiger didn’t win, but you can’t deny the impact of his return to a major title.

What gets lost to me in the enormity of Tigers win... is that Molinari was right there and prob should’ve won, but those balls in the water..... man, for someone that had been clutch when it counted, who had won the Open by just staying the course and playing just lovely shotmaking when needed, that was just a dagger.

Brooks as well, but not nearly as bad as Molinari.

Yeah for sure. There were so many guys in contention and I think of all of them Tiger was the only one who didn't put it in the drink on 12.

I’m watching The Masters and I’m enjoying it without the fans. Good play so far from what I’ve seen.

Tiger was in an accident this morning and had to be cut out of the car. Reports are that he sustained multiple leg injuries and is in surgery now.

Glad he got out of that. I mean sounds like serious injury but could have been a lot worse.

Damn, that's awful. I hope he's okay, first from a general life perspective and secondly from a being able to continue his career perspective. Single car accident, hmm. It was at 7am so it doesn't strike me as a night out situation but with his multitude of back surgeries and previous DUI you wonder if it was pain medication related. We should wait for the details though. Fuck.

His ankle was shattered and he broke both legs.

I saw the CNN headline that read "Tiger woods had a rod inserted during emergency surgery". I misread it and thought it said "Tiger woods had A rod inserted during emergency surgery" and I wondered if J-Lo was cuckhold.

Very bad leg injuries based on what's been revealed and what I've heard people hypothesize about what it all means that they had to lift his muscle skin to relieve the swelling and his supposed "crush injuries". Worse than just broken bones. Some serious shit.

Not to get ahead of ourselves but since that's what we do as internet commenters... I would say if he returns to competitive PGA Tour Golf at any point I would be pleasantly surprised. I do think he will play in a PGA event again, I just don't know that he will ever compete again, given these injuries and also surely a car crash like did a number on his already bad back.

At this point the real hope is that he can walk normally again

My last boss had similar injuries to his femur and ankle. Took about a year for him to walk without a walker/cane. Granted he was an out of shape 50 year old but still. I’d be surprised if he is in a PGA event and walks all 18 holes. I have rods and screws in my arm/wrist and playing 18 holes is tough on bad days. Again, obviously I’m not a pro golfer but the point remains that metal in your body isn’t pleasant and it’s a major lifestyle change possibly.

I would expect that aside from hitting ceremonial T Shots at Augusta he is done.

Purely an accident according to the sheriff’s report. No evidence of impairment, no odor of alcohol.
