I can't believe this. I don't follow boxing all that much but I checked the odds and Kahn was heavily odds-on.

Prescott to knock him out in the first round must've been 100/1 at least

    What the hell happened?

    ALL HYPE AND NO CHIN

The drug peddling River plate fan just came out and twatted him JIJ.

    TWATTED HIM.

Neither of them were really moving. And Prescott just fucking TWATTED HIM TWICE. In about 30 seconds. Awesome excitement, if ultimately a little disappointing when you've ben waiting for it all night.

Khan was ridiculously wobbly after he got his face smashed in. Glass chin.

Surely Khan won't be able to come back from this with any sort of respect.

His whole persona is built around him being the new kid on the block destined for stardom.

They had practicaly identical records, and identical physical stats. Now, I dont know much about boxing and thus dont know the standard of Prescotts opposition up to today, but Khans last few fights have been against people that have lost their last fight or two and are generally considered past it weren't they?

    Bookies fucked up.

He's got the media profile to come back. But I'd have thought it'll take a hell of a lot of work and possibly a new chin.

It'll be interesting to see how Sky try and market his next fight.

Clearly he's out of his depth when faced with someone half decent so I can't see any way they can really hype him up anymore.

I like how they didn't even announce his opponent on the adverts until this week. It was just

    KHAN

    COMES TO BOX OFFICE

Also Frank Warren slyly passed the buck in the post match interview. "Well I made the fight so I've got to take responsibility... the trainer said he'd be a good match for Amir so I went with it but I hold my hands up."

    trainer

Sky'll be OK. 'Khan - THE FIGHTBACK' with some suitably aggressive quotes and a shit opponent will sell reasonably I'd have thought.

We all new Amir Khan’s chin would not stand up to a shot from a legitimate, hard punching lightweight. So why have him fight a Columbian going into the fight with 17 knockouts out of 19, terrible decision by Frank Warren.

The worst thing is the fact that he had absolutely no idea that punch was coming whatsoever until it hit him. Work on your boxing fundamentals son. The poor chin is excusable, there is not much you can do about your genetics, but the only way to cover up a bad chin is to get a good defense. Khan is so focused on his offense that he doesnt even know that a punch is coming.

Fairly boring card last night. I was expecting a couple of edge of the chair fights... Marquez vs. Cassamayor was good, but not great. My biggest problem with this card is that Golden Boy wanted to cut costs and decided not to broadcast the card in High-Def.

This was a massive mistake. Fights in standard definition lose the big-time fight feel, and this should have been a HUGE fight night. I am really disappointed in Oscar, or whoever is responsible for the No-HD decision. I liked the $44.99 price better than the $59.99 norm for the HD fights, but I would rather pay $100 and get the fight in a format that is watch able. Huge fuck-up here, and I will never again make the mistake of ordering a PPV that isn't in HD.

I was impressed with Victor Ortiz though. He grew up about 30 miles from Los Angeles, and is a protege of sorts of Oscar's. He absolutely batters guys with a Vargas intensity, but with excellent technical skill. He is one to watch.

Saw the Tim Bradley fight. Seems to be shaping up to be a decent fighter. Put him in the ring with Hatton now and he'd get battered for 12 rounds though. And thats with Hatton way past his best.

I was gutted Marquez/Cassamayor was not on in the UK, with the Campbell fight off I had to watch Bradley vs Edna "Cherry Bomb" Cherry

    Anyone watch the Pavlik/Hopkins fight?

Pavlik was unable to cope with Hopkins superb defense, hand speed, sharper punches, greater weight, and all-around ring smarts of Hopkins. Heck, Hopkins didn’t even need to resort to any roughhousing or ugliness. He simply schooled and exposed Pavlik.

I was hoping that this would happen. Says a hell of a lot to the Calzaghe naysayers who claimed that Hopkins was shot when Calzaghe faced him and that Calzaghe was running scared from Pavlik. Kelly is lucky that he didnt get the fight with Joe. If Hopkins beat him to the punch all night, it may well have been another Lacy fight for Joe.

It's basically confirmed that Jones Jr. is going to be Calzaghe's last opponent. If Kelly beat Hopkins and another name, they could've made some money together. Now, not a chance. As much as I like big fights, Joe shouldn't carry on fighting, his hands are wrecked already.

I wouldnt be surprised if we were to see Calzaghe take on Chad Dawson or perhaps Jermaine Taylor depending on the result of the Taylor vs Lacy fight.

Dawson because he is that one big prime young proven fighter who Joe needs on his record (sadly Lacy and Kessler for whatever reason didnt count as that, particularly Kessler who in my opinion may well end up better than many great fighters), Taylor because if he knocks out Lacy it'll be marketable, he has beaten Hopkins twice, arguably beat Pavlik the second time and really shouldnt trouble Calzaghe much at all.

Stayed up to watch the fight on Sunday. Fantastic performance from Hopkins, it really was a beating in the Calzaghe/Lacy mode. I admit I didn't think he had a fight like that left in him but he dominated the fight from start to finish. He really showed Pavlik up as a straight-lined, one dimensional fighter with no plan B, but I think he'll improve and come back from that. After all, Hopkins is just a brilliant fighter. He has been brilliant over the past fifteen years and he proved that he still is. Pavlik couldn't get near him.

And of course, that showing makes Calzaghe's deserved victory over him in April look a great win, rather than a fortunate decision against a 'past it' fighter. I wouldn't be surprised if this now is Calzaghe last fight coming up against RJJ. Pavlik and Dawson were the two real potential opponents for future fights, now the proposed Pavlik fight is dead in the water and I'm reluctant to believe Dawson is the real deal after wins against Johnson and Tarver, who lets face it are hardly at the level of Calzaghe or Hopkins.

I'd love to see him have one more fight in front of a sold out Millennium Stadium, but if he does decide to call it a day in a couple of weeks then Joe can retire a happy man with nothing to prove. Hopkins will probably fight forever.

I've heard this "Pavlik was Hopkin's Lacy" a few times. I think that people need to go back to watch the Calzaghe vs Lacy fight. Admittedly, Pavlik was better than Lacy in terms of achievement (but in reality a similar fighter) and Hopkins completely neutralised and dominated him in an incredible impressive way. But what Calzaghe did to Lacy was in a different league altogether.

It was different in that Calzaghe moved a lot more, threw a lot more and landed a lot more, but Hopkins isn't going to apply the non-stop pressure that Calzaghe is capable of. I've seen the Lacy fight from start to finish several times and will never get bored of it, it was a boxing masterclass, but to me the Hopkins performance on Saturday was as good as anything I've seen in a long time. Pavlik is a far superior fighter to Lacy, as will be shown when Jermaine Taylor comfortably outpoints Lacy in a couple of weeks. But he just couldn't get near Hopkins, defensively Hopkins is in a different league to anyone currently around that weight and his speed and stamina for someone of his age is nothing short of jaw dropping.

I actually think the middle/super middle/light heavy weights are quite weak at the moment. Calzaghe, Hopkins and I suppose Dawson are on the top tier, Kessler, Pavlik, Abraham and Taylor are all decent, but after that there isn't a lot about. It'll be interesting to see what Jones is like in a couple of weeks, although rematches against Hopkins and Tarver are the only fights I can see coming his way should Calzaghe deal with him like everyone expects him to.

What do you expect from Oscar/Pacman, Mik?

I expect Oscar to win on power, but wouldnt be surprised if Pacman simply tires him out. What Hopkins did was incredibly impressive, but Pavlik isnt MUCH more proven than Lacy was when Calzaghe beat him (one impressive win over Taylor, one unimpressive win over Taylor is all that separates him and Taylor quite frankly looked dreadful in his fight before Pavlik and still almost knocked him out in it). What Calzaghe did with Lacy was embarrassing, Lacy's career might never recover from it.

I'd also rank Calzaghe's performance against Kessler being more impressive. I think that Kessler would probably knock out Pavlik and would likely beat Hopkins too.

Fair play to Hopkins for dominating his fight against Pavlik, I had Pavlik winning that quite easy.

Dawson vs Hopkins would be quite good, I like Dawson a lot. He out boxed Tarver well the other week.

Tonight's the night. It all depends on what Jones can land, Joe will win on points unless Jones gets some good flurries through.

    Joe on points for me.

If I had money on it I'd say Joe on points, but there is a chance that Jones could just be so overawed by Joe's constant pressure that it could end in a stoppage. It will depend on where Jones is, he hasn't fought anyone worth mentioning for over three years. Just because guys like Hopkins can fight on into their advanced years doesn't mean Jones can. If he's shot, he's shot.

Should be a cracking fight and I fancy Joe to put in a great performance tonight.

I'm also going points by split decision. Going down local pub to watch this as they are making a big deal of it.

Jones hasn't knocked anyone out for about five years. Calzaghe's chin is solid. I can't see a Jones KO win.

Fight will start at about 3am I'm afraid lads. Maybe later.

What time did it actually start then?

Watched it twice now, Calzaghe was superb, his workrate was awesome and he showed he can take shots on his cast iron chin.

    Masterclass.

Well we were treated to a very exciting display of the many talents of Joe Calzaghe. He proved he can do just about anything he wants to in the ring and get away with it. He has great reflexes, toughness, speed, volume punching, and ability to read or sense what his opponent is going to do and then react accordingly.

Another class performance by Joe who is well and truly up there as the current best Boxer on the world.

This fight will be as much about individual redemption as it will be a fight for a future in the sport itself as both Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy try to bounce back from some very troubling moments in the recent past.

Taylor will need to come out from the first bell shooting combination's with power and thrust, giving Lacy a lot to think about in the early going. Lacy hasn't done much lately to really draw fear from an opponent, but Taylor will need to beware of the big bombs as well. One in the early going may be alright when his legs are fresh but down the stretch, too many to follow could spell trouble for Taylor. Defense has never been one of Taylor's strong suits and there's no coincidence that Pavlik was able to walk him down the way he did. Taylor will simply need to set the pace and be smart about it to prevent punching himself out like he did against Pavlik in the first fight. If Taylor can set the tempo, impose fear, and make it a brutal, ugly fight, his chances to emerge victorious go from slim to strong, quickly.

    JERMAIN TAYLOR - UNANIMOUS DECISION

The Haye fight was great viewing the other day. Every fight of his is guaranteed excitement. He definitely has the power to be a threat at heavyweight and will be quicker than all of his potential opponents, but there's still doubts over his chin and defence. Still, whatever happens I can't wait to see him up against either Klitschko. Hopefully he goes for Wladimir first.

Hopkins, Kessler, Dawson, Johnson and Taylor have all called out Calzaghe now. Mental. He'll have one farewell fight in Cardiff next summer and then he'll call it a day. What a guy.

Hatton up next week, then two weeks after it's Pacquiao/de la Hoya, with Froch, Khan, Cook and Maccarinelli all fighting earlier on in the day. Boxing is great at the moment.

Hardly any shops around me sell it. Managed to get hold of a couple of them recently though, one from a service station near GAYDON. It was the one after the Vitali/Peter bout. Might see if the local shop can order them in for me actually.

Hatton should be quality this weekend. I really think Malignaggi is made for him. A win puts him in line for mega-fights with Oscar, Pacquiao and Marquez, so this fight is massive. I'm desperate to see Hatton/Pacman.

Yeah I could hardly find any copies, so I just got my local shop to order them for me.

If Hatton wins I can see him fighting the winner of Oscar/Manny.

Some fella in work brings those Boxing mags in every Thursday for me, I enjoy reading them.

Really looking forward to another Hatton night of Boxing and most likely a win.

That call was based purely on the fact that he was from Birmingham to be fair.

Hatton by KO in round 9
