Aye he's a total wanker. I just want Klit and Mayweather to fuck off for the good of the sport.

Congratulations and all that to the prick, but god he's going to be unbearable now till someone with a half decent punch and a basic grasp of tactics knocks him over.

Cracking result for Hay though in the long term

Thank goodness, actually, they're wearing gloves, because I've witnessed bare-knuckle boxing in a barn in Somerset about three years ago. And it was a sorry sight to see men goading them on in such a barbaric fashion. And I'm rather ashamed to say I was party to that goading. And two men fighting as I saw in that barn that night, naked as the day they were born, and fighting the way God intended. Wrestling at points, I don't know if you've seen "Women In Love". There's a marvellous scene by the fire. It kind of resembled that.

Bit of a snoozer from Klitchko and Fury. Big Wlad just refused to pull the trigger most of the night.

The DeGale vs. Bute bout was an actual fight. Excellent action.

Welp... Wlad and his age was very apparent tonight. Just couldn't throw a punch to save his life. Like to see Fury with Wilder, I'm sure Fury would handle it as I just dont trust Wilder yet.

Outside of wilder, fury, haye and klitschko there isn't really anyone to face and none of them have really faced each other either (only two match ups and only the same one guy involved in both).

Anyone watching Santa Cruz vs Frampton tonight? Haven't stayed up for a US card in a while but this fight could be pretty fucking entertaining. Santa Cruz is the favourite but think Frampton might wear him down with short, straight counters. Good clash of styles.

Interesting fight for Wilder. He won decisively but looked mostly lost until the final 2 minutes of the fight.

The blueprint to beating Wilder seems pretty simple but no one can do it. Wilder doesn't have much time. Sooner rather than later he will face a competent body and will lose wide. He has nowhere left to hide and he is getting dominated in every fight until he hulks up and scores a suspicious KO. He is garbage.

He's a sloppy fighter with genuine one punch knockout power. Any tidy technical fighter like Wlad, Joshua, Fury or possibly even Haye should beat him 8 times out of 10.

Wilder is fucking shit. Every fight of his goes the same way. Tries to box for a few rounds, realises he's not very good at it, then windmills in and takes out the the clueless cunt he's up against. It's a shame Fury went mental and that match was never made, as Wilder would get schooled by him.

And out of nowhere, the WBC have decided that Bermane Stiverne is the mandatory for Wilder's belt. The same Stiverne that has had one fight since losing to Wilder two years ago. Fucking embarrassing, they're determined for him to keep that belt as long as possible before he gets inevitably exposed.

Wilder also gave an interview saying he is worried that his power will kill someone in the ring at some point.

If that ever happens they should charge him with premeditated murder.

That was shit. Props to Haye for staying in it so long but for Bellew to take six rounds to take out a sitting duck, rubbish. Haye refusing to talk about the injury after was weird, nice of him to be gracious, but it seems like he would've just outlasted Bellew easily without it.

Hard to see how Bellew can realistically take any credit for that. Haye was clearly out working him for those first five rounds and then it took Bellew another 6 rounds to get a stoppage against a guy barely able to walk.

Presumably Haye could have punched Bellew's head into a pink mist within 30 seconds if he felt like it. These two pricks have milked this fight for all it's worth and will probably continue to do so. That whole thing had the feel of a wrestling feud played out by two blokes who are obviously mates with each other. I wondered even to believe if Haye was truly injured.

Who's watching Johnson vs. Klitschko today? 4:15 PM EST on Showtime with Mauro Ranallo on the call. In front of a sellout crowd at Wembley Stadium in London. IBF, WBA, and IBO Heavyweight Titles on the line. Hopefully we can get the winner to fight Deontay Wilder and have a unified heavyweight champion.

I had my headphones in watching it my laptop, went mental at the finish.

Fella's stormed off to bed in a mood because I was so loud. Oops.

I don't watch boxing as often as many in here but that has to be the best heavyweight fight I've ever seen. Best fight at any weight I've seen since Eubank vs Watson. Fucking hell.

It's not just the fact it was so good, it was for a hyped contest - one of the most hyped fights of all time no less - to be this good is just ridiculous.

The other notable heavyweight fight was Magomed Abdusalamov vs. Mike Perez a few years ago. That fight ended in tragedy as Abdusalamov went from being a bankable heavyweight prospect to near death and paralyzation after the fight.

It was a quality fight. You ever seen Derrick Jefferson v Maurice Harris or Ron Lyle v George Foreman. Two heavyweight barnburners right there.

To be honest the main event was electric but every other fight was dead. Joshua is a big star, but boxing doesn't compare to mma now. The bisping vs Henderson card in Manchester was louder despite only having a tenth of the people there.

Difficult to create an atmosphere in a stadium like Wembley though. It's dead for most football matches. The main event sounded so loud.

Nah, boxing has destroyed MMA this year so far, been far more buzz for the boxing than anything MMA has done. They only really have McGregor as a croas over star currently and hes not fighting as hes trying to negotiate a boxing fight in which hes gonna get embarrased in should it happen.

That's not even remotely true. The UFC's PPV buy rate this year has completely blown boxing out of the water.

The Joshua v Wlad fight broke the UK PPV record so thats around 1.5 million. Bellew v Haye did about 1.2 million, Canelo v Chavez hasnt been released but is expected to be around 750k, Canelo v Golovkin will likely break a million then whatever Joshuas next fight does will likely be pretty big. Also have Spence v Brook that will do well this month.

    Garcia v Thurman 5.1million
    Wilder v Washington 1.8 million
    Warren v Zakyinov 1.5 million
    Lomachenko v Sosa 900k
    Broner v Granados 800k
    Santa Cruz v Frampton 650k
    Vargas v Berchelt 560k
    Lara v Foreman 550k
    Degale v Jack 450k
    Porter v Berto 450k

Missed loads if cards off but thats solid numbers for a sport that puts out far more cards than any other combat sport. If Joshua keeps winning hes gonna be the far and away king of buys and viewing figures.

How many of those are PPV buys? Most of them are TV ratings - Thurman vs. Garcia is a great number, the others are on par with the FS1 UFC's. No doubting boxing has had a better start to the year than the UFC though, that being a combination of UFC using pretty much all their top guys on cards in November/December, injuries, weight cutting and suspensions, while boxing promoters have pinpointed the right talents to get behind (Joshua, Canelo, Lomachenko, Thurman, Santa Cruz) and have reaped the rewards of giving them compelling matchups. It's a particularly exciting year for boxing and thus far a flat one for the UFC, accelerated by the loss of Rousey, the absence of Conor and the delayed comebacks of Jones and GSP.

It's a very exciting year for boxing. The heavyweight division having a guy like Joshua at the top is huge. Fury, Joshua, Parker and Wilder are an unbeaten quartet and that 0 means a lot for the promotion of fights. Undefeated unification fights between any of the 4 should do business. Ward vs. Kovalev 2 at light heavyweight is a massive fight (RING's top 2 P4P). Potential of Groves vs. DeGale 2 in a unification bout should Groves win his title on the Brook/Spence (another great fight) undercard. Canelo vs. GGG. Mikey Garcia, Terrence Crawford and Keith Thurman a trifecta of unbeaten champions in the recent "money" divisions. Selby, Quigg and Frampton domestically all in the same weight class. Lots of good stuff coming this year.

Bellew vs Haye did about 600k by the way, about half what you said. Spence vs Brook won't get anywhere near that.

Anthony Joshua is the world ppv king in waiting, but he's not on McGregor's level just yet. He will be though. In the last 12 months UFC has pissed on boxing. Not this year so far with Rousey and McGregor yet to fight.

Probably, not so much in ppv buys though. I'd imagine it would come in at around 600k. There are only a few fighters that generate around or more than that amount of ppv buys on their own in combat sports these days. Jon Jones (maybe), Ronda Rousey, GSP, Conor McGregor, Anthony Joshua, Floyd Mayweather, Brock Lesnar...that's about it.

Canelo looks to be on that level, or at least certainly a level above anybody else not mentioned. He's done good numbers against Cotto, Khan and now Chavez. Even did reasonable (300k) against Smith who was pretty much a no name in the States. I don't think it will be in that record altering stratosphere but I'd definitely expect it in the million range given it's timing with the Mexican celebrations. I feel Golovkin isn't the B side to create a true global event (and that's not a mark on his skill level), but his reputation, record and threat to Canelo will create a bigger fight for him than anybody that isn't Floyd.

I reckon GGG/Canelo will do close to a million buys. GGG's buyrates haven't been great at all but Canelo's are very solid. I expect this fight will be promoted to fuck and will capture the imagination of the viewers.

Pacquiao is still one of the best for selling PPVs but he's winding down now. Pac/Thurman would do good numbers but doubt it'll happen.

Pac at his height was very equivalent to McGregor, in that he could regularly hit 1m ppvs on his own. I don't think that Floyd was even at that level. When he fought a bit fight he could hugely eclipse that more than anyone else. But against Berto he barely shifted 400k, you'd never see that happen to McGregor if he remained unbeaten like Floyd has. Canelo may be on that level. So far he averages around 300-400 when he's not in a big fight and higher when he is. Whether he'd get to 1m against GGG seems unlikely as GGG isn't a huge ppv draw. But you never know. Boxing is in a bit of a resurgence at the moment, that would speak volumes if it did.

They can market the shit out of it because it is such a credible fight. Golden Boy will invest massive dollars in the promotion and if the fight lives up to the hype it could really be a considerable moment for the sport. This really is the main fight that every boxing fan has clamoured for. People will be telling their friends and the casual fan will have eyes on the fight in a meaningful way. Hopefully they dont blow it.

So May vs. Pac did 4-5 million buys. May vs. Canelo about 2 Million.

Real boxing fans know that this should be a much better fight then either of those. 1 million sounds like too much but if they can even pull out 750k it will be a pretty important window for boxing and well worth the promotional investment.

Barb has it down as 1.2million and Hearn said it had done more than any Joshua PPV to date (at that point his highest being 700k). Haye, despite being a prick is a pretty big draw and they marketed the shit out of that fight so wouldnt surprise me if it did around a million. No real way of clarifying a number because Sky dont release them though.

Floyds last fight bombed because it was an utter mismatch with no marketable value. He was seeing out his contract in a no risk fight where the result wasnt in doubt. It also came after the Pacquaio fight where people felt they were robbed so its of no surprise. His prior PPVs were around 800-1.3 consistently with Pacquaio breaking 4 million and canelo breaking 2 million, De La Hoya fight did 1.8. Floyds easily been the biggest PPV draw of all time.

Boxing are trying to move away from PPV in the States tbf though, PBC put all their cards on free tv and want to build an audience that way. I think Spence v Bundu got 6 million viewers with Thurman, Garcia and Wilder fights usually doing into the millions so it appears to be working. Not a bad idea when they spent the last six years promoting Mayweather and Pacquio who arr both on the verge or are retired now so need to build new stars.

I think with Joshua, Spence, Thurman, Canelo and then later Stephenson and Balderas boxing will have some big names to carry it through. Its main problem has been finding an American heavyweight who captures the imagination, if they find that then itll be laughing.

Thats just the US, in Europe boxing is reaching its heights.

GGG v Canelo will do a million. Alvarez does good numbers when he has a good opponent and GGGS stock has been building, hes neber gonna be a big star but hes known enough that he'll do good numbers with a marketable dance partner.

The undercard will likely have Gonzalez v Srisaket on which was fight of the year and Cuadras v Estrada which is an all Mexican eliminator for the winner of that fight so youll get a lot of Mexicans buying it on the Mexican holiday. Itll fo good numbers.

I know that I have been pimping Andre Ward on here for the better part of a decade and I couldn't be happier. I feel like my dude is finally the uncontested pound-for-pound king of boxing.

This was a great three at one point. I was just reading back and we had a ton of guys who are still here that used to make this thread pretty active.

The heyday of this thread was sort around the SMW super six and the rise of Manny Pacquiao to superstardom. It was the last truly great period in boxing. UK Blue, Bluemoon, Mik, fanny batter, bad Colin, torn, etc. Lots of great banter.

I thought that it was a little contentious though with those obvious low blows in an otherwise close fight.

Nothing really hit him in the dick. Lots of beltline shots on high trunks. I don't recall anything that looked right on the dick.

On another look there was definitely 1 shot that was low. Still looks like it was higher than the cup but it's hard to tell.

I think if someone hit me in the area between my dick and my beltline properly I would just die.

I think ward was taking over the fight anyway. But the finishing exchange had ward hit a hard low blow, then while Kovalev bent over in pain rather than jump in to give him time to recover the ref jumped in and stopped it. Even if it wasn't a low blow 'which it was' the stoppage was premature.
