If it was the other way round, would it have been stopped? If you think the answer is yes, then you're wrong.

Of course he was, his hands were still up, he was still swinging. He was in trouble but it was the first trouble he'd been in all fight and he deserved the chance to fight his way out of it. Froch got that benefit of the doubt several times. It was a terrible decision by the ref and ruined a great fight. There were potentially 3 fantastic rounds of boxing left. The stupid wanker was getting involved far too much all night and preening for the cameras.

If anyone's safety was in question it was Froch after being fully sent to the floor in round 1 and then taking solid punishment for 6 rounds afterwards.

No it probably wouldn't. Because Froch has proven that he can take a lot of punishment in the past, from high level opponents. Groves hasn't.

I completely disagree watching boxing and mma regualrly groves had a glazed look right across his eyes. If he was swinging then the ref would not get involved. You clearly don't watch boxing that often if you believe that the ref was overly involved he was about as standard as they come.

Yes, as the previous 8 rounds where Groves was punching his face off would go to prove. If that fat fuck Howard Foster wasn't in the way, at best, Groves would have been able to move out the way, at worst, he would've gone down and got 20 seconds to sort himself out.

There are probably worse things that can happen with Froch repeatedly punching your head than just going down and sorting yourself out to be fair.

Good one. Groves was still defending himself and was fully aware of what the ref was doing in stopping the fight, his reaction to the ref weighing in is clear and immediate. He took a couple of hard shots but Froch had taken serious punishment for several rounds without being stopped or counted, except when he was knocked on his arse of course. There was no need for the ref to step in so quickly, Groves was still on his feet, still defending himself and deserved the chance to fight his way out of trouble.

Being medically trained and having boxed myself (anyone can play the wanker), as well as watching boxing regularly, I think Groves was fine. Froch being allowed to continue to walk in to punches for 6 rounds after being knocked out was more dangerous.

It was definitely a bad decision. In order to stop the fight, the ref needs to think that the fighter is either not defending himself for a sustained period of time (wasnt the case, Groves got caught a few times, but he was still keeping his gloves up), not fighting back (Groves was still swinging) or taking too much damage (he didnt get knocked down and in fact was moving away from Froch at the time despite being caught cleanly a few times and being in a bit of trouble). Common sense should've prevailed and Froch either should've gotten the opportunity to decisively finish the fight (another ten seconds of that kind of pressure without retaliation wouldve done it) or Groves should've been given the opportunity to show that he could recover. In my opinion a standing 8 count would've been the correct decision there. It would give Froch a 10-8 round at least, would give the referee the opportunity to assess Groves and his lucidity more clearly and it would've only delayed Froch's attack by a few seconds. If the ref didnt feel he was able to continue he could've waved it off at least assessing the situation properly.

The fact that Groves was clearly ahead (I was watching with the sound off and therefore didnt get the obligatory shamefully misleading Sky commentary)...I had him 4 or 5 points up. Not utter dominance as for the most part he was landing the cleaner punches where Froch was the busier fighter, but it wasnt quite all over barring a knockout, that should've played in the referee's decision too. He should've been given every opportunity to show that he could recover.

I wanted Froch to win and I think that he had Groves in severe trouble there. I do think that he would've gone on to finish that fight decisively, but that stoppage was incredibly premature.

However, another fast boxer outclassing Froch for the majority of the fight just goes to further show to me that Calzaghe with his speed, workrate, head movement and ridiculous chin would've quite possibly routed Froch to a whitewash.

Yeah a standing 8 count was by the best option if he really thought Groves was wobbling. We said that at the time, the fact the ref didn't use it made me wonder if they were even allowed in this fight. Froch has come off as a bit of a knob but I'm sure he genuinely would have preferred to end the fight properly.

Yeah, reason ref didn't do that was because it was IBF sanctioned, and they don't have standing 8 counts.

    Yep exactly.

I'm a massive Froch fan but at the end at first when he didn't shake hands he was out of order there. Hopefully he gives Groves the rematch anyway.

If, as George Groves claims, he wasn't even slightly dazed during the final onslaught in the 9th round why was he facing the wrong way with his arms around his ankles? And if Froch only landed a "couple of shots" on him during the whole fight, why did he end up looking like a fucking panda? Stop moaning and accept you lost, you cockney prick!

Precisely. I'm in no way bias towards either as I could not give a toss who won but groves was clearly beaten and glazed at the stoppage.

I'm in no way biased either and felt that Froch was gradually coming back to win, but there was no way that should've been stopped.

Great night of boxing. Undercard was quite good and watching Maidana turn Broner into his son was genius. Broner acted like an unprofessional clown from start to finish. Got schooled in the ring and at his own game outside the ring. Couldnt think of a better guy than Maidana for this to happen to. Almost shit my pants when Maidana pumped him back from behind. Then he combed his hair after the fight, and then Broner left like a bitch without giving an interview and got littered with trash on his way out. So fucking awesome.

Golovkin fighting this weekend against Adama in Monaco. Easy KO for the big Kazakh, most likely.

Have any of you got any prospects you like? Felix Verdejo is my number one at the moment, closely followed by Lomachenko. Jose Ramirez has impressed in his outings, too.

Are Verdejo and Lomachenko still even proper prospects? Love both those dudes. Havent seen Ramirez I don't think but will keep an eye out for him.

Does Anthony Dirrell or Bryant Jennings still count? I have seen Jermell Charlo live a few times but I guess he broke out of being a prospect last weekend.

Welcome to the boards. Not much boxing discussion here but there are a few of us.

I would say they are, really, Lomachenko especially. Verdejo has only been at it over a year but he's very active. I don't think you can really stop calling someone a prospect until they're solid main-eventers or title holders/defeated in a title match. I'd still call Charlo a prospect, too.

There's another fella that was on Showbox the other night. Frankie Galarza I think. Like the look of him. Redkach as well, or however you spell it.

What do you reckon of Anthony Joshua?

If you go out there and put a beat down on Gabriel Rosado you are no longer a prospect in my book.

I like AJ but need to see more of him. Tons of hype around the kid, great pedigree, just need to see more.

I guess we should throw Keith Thurman in the prospect pot also.

Rosado is a warrior but he's more of a gatekeeper than anything. I love the guy because he'll fight anybody but he's not world class. I suppose, though, considering he's a gatekeeper that could mean Charlo is a full blown competitor. Meh, who knows? Super-welter is a very competitive division at the moment.

Joshua looks very impressive. Technically, I mean. He's always in shape and doesn't look like a fat slugger. All remains to be seen how he takes a punch, though. That's the make or break in the heavyweight division. I'd put my faith in Jennings, Wilder, Perez etc before him at the moment. I just wish Odlanier Solis would fight more.

Collazo isn't what he was when he fought Hatton. I expect Ortiz to stop him fairly early. If Victor had the world class heart to match that anger he'd be a monster.

Collazo with a 2nd round KO.

I expected Collazo to win late, and if anyone was going to win early I would have thought it was Ortiz.

If Ortiz was in proper ring shape I think he would have gotten up. Too long a layoff. What should have been a flash knockdown turned into a KO. Everytime Ortiz goes down you can almost see him deciding if he should get up or not. Another case of questionable heart for Victor.

Big Victor hasn't got the heart for this game, I think it's that simple. If someone like Collazo can make him quit can you imagine what someone like Canelo, Lara, Angulo, Trout would do to him? He's just not built for this. If you can't get up for millions of dollars what can you get up for?

    To quote Jimmy McNulty:

He looked scared to be getting hit as soon as he got hurt. Like he didn't even try and use footwork, he just kind of walked to the ground and gave up there and then. It makes me sad because the brother can fight when he wants to.

Golovkin destroyed Adama. Had no business being in there with GGG. It's not the type of fights you want to see GGG in at this point but I'd rather him fight four times a year than twice, I suppose.

So....Manny/Bradley happened, no one cared and Manny won by UD. Arum went off on Mayweather again knowing full well it wont ever happen. Someone should tell Arum to shut his mouth as all the talent at 140/147/154 seems to be with GB and TR has squat in those divisions.

Bradley has developed into an absurdly entertaining TV fighter. Had he just kept boxing he would bave won that fight. Instead, he was wildly going for KO and it cost him.

Good call.....sadly he reminded me of Mr T in Rocky 3 with all those wide hooks he kept trying to throw. Completely took himself out of the fight and cost himself badly.

Not sure he would have won but it would have been a much tighter decision than it turned out to be. Hope Manny get Prodonikov (sp?) next. No need for Maquez 5 at this point.

Timothy clearly won this fight. I think that Boxing payed Timothy to lose so that they set-up Paquio vs Marquez 5 even tho Marquez will have paquio like a bobble-head but yea Boxing is so bad lolololol

LOL....it was a good effort from Maidana's camp. Either way it will be interesting because Maidana will keep coming forward throwing and floyd I think for the first time in a while will be forced to into at least a little bit of a firefight.

Had it 7-5 Money May and could even see 8-4 Floyd.....thought Maidana got a lot of credit for swinging wildly and glancing shots. He fought hard though and should get credit.

I had it 6-6, however floyd clearly landed the crisper, cleaner punches and controlled the 2nd half of the fight. The right guy won but the 2 scorecards in favor of May were insane.

In my (probably biased) opinion Froch absolutely destroys Groves here, makes him look an idiot.

The point he makes about "you got me in one of my worst ever performances.... and I still beat you. Fact." is great.

The bits where he pulls him up over mispronouncing things are funny though. I'm not overly confident with it being at Wembley but I'd love him to knock Groves out and put this to bed.

really. the promotion has been outstanding and with the nature of the stoppage in the last fight people want to see it again.

Froch really became one of my favorites to watch. His performances in the super 6, combined with his absolute pasting of Bute has changed his career completely. The fact that his wife looks like a crazy awesome whore is the cherry on top.

Froch for me. He has one ability that groves doesn't that overrides the technical abilities that groves has over him (which are many, froch has never been the best technical fighter) and that's the ability to absorb punishment and keep going for 12 rounds, even a Hail Mary punch like the one groves landed in the first round is not enough to turn the tide against froch, where it is against groves. As annoying as he is, groves is an excellent fighter and these two fights will do him the world of good. I don't feel a lot of sympathy for froch, he tried the same stuff with Calzaghe as groves has against him, but Calzaghe was on a much higher level than froch, was making bigger fights and I maintain would've beaten froch more convincingly than ward did. But I have grown to like froch over his career and as I think this could be his last fight, I'd like to see him win it.

I'm going and I will be cheering for Froch. He has given so much entertainment down the years and it would be good to see him go out as champion.

I also hope Degale wins well to set up a second fight against Groves.

Groves started beautifully but by the 4th round Froch was taking him to school. Wonderful fight that finished unexpectedly. Froch really isn't a knockout artist. I love him even more now.

Froch is a heavy puncher, definitely. But he's fought top competition for so long now that its hard to get knockouts very often (I mean, who is knocking out the likes of Kessler?)

The fight went exactly as I expected. Groves is the better boxer, faster and more technically sound. But Froch has the better chin, the better durability and is able to keep throwing those fight-changing punches until the last bell. If they fought 10 times Groves would win almost all of the rounds and Froch would win almost all of the fights.

I think Froch's lackadaisical attitude to the last match and the subsequent fight meant that Groves probably believed his own hype that he was on Froch's level.

He clearly isn't. And as much as I love him I hope he retires now, don't want to see him lose to Ward again, despite the millions it would get him.

He he was beating froch in the first fight and got stopped and then he was beating him in the rematch (albeit less convincingly, but that could've largely been in part because froch wasn't badly knocked down and was wide open for much of he second fight) and then got knocked out. It followed a pretty similar pattern.

Welp.....that should be the end of Sergio, 2 knee surgies and a 14 month layoff was way to much.

    Cotto/GGG could be fun.

Cotto looked genius against a completely shot Martinez. Depending on who he fights next it could be a very interesting opportunity to make some cash betting against him. I believe GGG would completely blow him out.

GGG would eat Cotto's lunch....I'd say honestly if the whole Oscar/Arum thing is really on good terms, Canelo/Cotto could be a possibility assuming Canelo wins.

Canelo will have a very tough time with Lara but I agree a Canelo/Cotto match could be a lot of fun. I'm thinking Canelo TOO against both guys late but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Lara boxes circles around him either.

Great performance from Brook last night. Nice to see the judges actually giving the fight to somebody picking his shots, rather than to the dickhead walking in with his head, winging in aimless hooks. I don't think Jim Watt gave Brook a round the old prick.

Anyone watching tonight? Eubank Jr v Saunders was a great fight.

I want to see Fury v Klitschko so hopefully Tyson takes it tonight.

Broner/Molina was a dud....Broner was trying to hard to be on his best behavior and Molina was awful. Way to slow and never really tried to engage most of the fight.

Ghost/Thurman was fun slugfest, both guys threw bombs most of the fight and never stopped for 12 rnds. Like first fight Ghost was a little slow but unlike Molina still threw and connected when he did have a chance.

Saw a lot of complaints on Twitter about the presentation being too much like wrestling. That makes me think I'll love it.

Anybody watching Premiere Boxing? Pretty good fight between Andy Lee and Peter Quillen to start. Ends in a draw which both guys seem okay with (thought Quillen won, but I'm biased because he grew up in my hometown).

I watch pretty much everything televised. Pretty solid night of fights. I had Peterson on the main event but it was close. This was by far the best of the PBC series.

LOL....Garcia keeps getting decisions despite his awful performances. Says he will probably go up to 147. He needs to avoid boxers at all costs as he will get touched up against guys who can stick and move. Peterson waited to long to let his hands go and it cost him.

Fury is a complete knob, I doubt he's good enough to out box him and he certainly can't out think him.

Does he have the punch? Not convinced on that either although the last few bouts have cast a bit of doubt I guess.

Fury's trying. Klit's been utter shit but the judges will still probably give it to him or a draw.
