Once PBF and Pac are finished I expect HBO will try to promote the likes of Alvarez, Donaire and Gamboa as the next PPV generation. Probably Ward as well once he inevitably switches from Showtime. Other than him they're somewhat lacking in young American talent, although Broner and Russell Jr look very promising.

I think there are many interesting fighters out there and good fights to be made (when politics doesn't get in the way) but there's without doubt a severe lack of big name stars right now. 10-15 years ago you had Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson, Jones Jr, Hopkins, De la Hoya, Trinidad, Tszyu, Gatti, Mosley, Mayweather, Castillo, Corrales, Barrera, Morales, Hamed, a phenomenal group of talent and all massive names. Nowadays someone as average as Tim Bradley is widely considered a top ten P4P.

Is it because they've been backing the wrong people? Kirkland, Ortiz and Jacobs were the top prospects and all got smashed quite decisively even before they got to big fights. Ward is a superb boxer but after Bute, what can he do?

Crazy looking at that list and comparing boxing to now. In fairness I think there was a slight lull post Leonard/Tyson pre-Douglas, maybe we're in a transition? In fairness a lot of top ranked guys are fighting each other in the near future, doesn't really receive any hype though. Doesn't help that fossils like Arum are still around.

Love your list UK BLUE, however you forgot Brandon Rios who is certainly a more TV friendly fighter than Gamboa, Canelo or Donaire.

These are the guys I expect to take the reigns once this generation are done (Pac, May, Cotto, BHop, Klits etc):

Guillermo Rigondeux - Awesome amateur with 400 wins from 415-420 fights (depending on source), won three world champs and two olympic gold medals, became a world champion in his ninth fight. He is 32 but should still go strong as a pro for another 3-4 years. technically this guy is one of the best Ive seen.

Nonito Donaire - the American-Phillipino has already destroyed the likes of Darchinyan and Montiel but he should hit his prime now and has some awesome fights ahead with the likes of Rigo, Nishioka and Arce in the near future. Winning them will put him at the forefront of the sport.

Diego magdelano - him and his brother Jessie are both very talented and with good backing they should be able to market them selves well and win championships.

Yuriorkis Gamboa - The Cuban is already a two weight champ but beating lightweight champ Brandon Rios in his next fight would take him one step closer to superstardom. Very talented guy, keep an eye out for him if you haven't seen him already.

Gary Russell Jnr - Another super talented guy but hasn't reached world level yet, he will soon and will hopefully be part of some bog fights with some of the guys listed above and below.

Adrian Broner - mayweather light but still got lots to learn, has lots of potential and has a few solid wins over De Leon and Litzau already.

Kazuto ioka - won world title in 7th fight and is still very young, an awesome talent who will dominate the lower weights.

Ismael Sillakh - check him out on youtube, he is awesome.

Aye, was just coming to post about that. Made all the more worse by Vitali standing there laughing at the little kids trying to be gangsters. True class.

Vitali is the only one who can come out of that with any form a credibility.

I think Vlad gets some credit also for not smashing Chisora straight in the face when he spat that water before the fight.

Spitting water in the face before the fight, slapping at the stare down, scuffling at the post-fight presser.

    Not great really is it.

It's pathetic. I hope the Klitschko's let them have their fights, rake in the cash and totally outclass both of the gimps inside and outside of the ring once again.

The video of the press conference is horrible watching, they both come off looking like complete oxygen thieves.

Please would someone like to find a British heavyweight with a bit of class so we can forget these two exist?

I watched the fight and while CHisora was pretty ineffective he made a good account of himself. Only to then act like a bell-end when the winner was announced and during interviews in the ring (where the crowd really turned on him). That haye stuff is disgraceful. Both of them come across as utter chavs, and both are a complete reflection of this country. Neither have an ounce of class of respect.

It looks like Haye glasses him in the video I've seen too. Fucking hell. Scumbags.

But then, it all looks a touch set up too. Which in my mind makes it worse than if it was genuine. What a bunch of utter cretins. What an embarresment.

I thought that, I've worked on the doors for damn near 20 years and sadly I've seen a few people glassed, when I first saw it I thought Bloody Hell! but on the second watch it's not right at all, if he was hit that hard with a bottle/glass then his face would be a mess and it just isn't.

Either its a sugar glass bottle or a water bottle that explodes on impact no way is that a real glass, and to be honest even a plastic one would cut you up pretty badly, which makes me think it's all a really piss poor attempt to get some momentum behind a fight no-one really wants to see, interesting to see how fast it became 'if this fight happens winner gets a title shot' almost rail-roading the Champs into it.

Sugar glass is what I thought too. It just explodes everywhere into tiny peices, and yeah, bottles can do that. But it just didn't look right... and yep, the fact Chisoras face isn't in ribbons is odd too.

It'd seem an odd way to boost some hype though because it would mean Hayes reputation (what little he has) would be in tatters. No one can back a guy who glasses someone. Or maybe they are now appealing to the lowest common denominator and trusting to the maxim that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

All I can think is that Haye is done and they are desperate to try and do anything to restore some sympathy and credibility to Chisora while trying to back the brothers into a match on the base of it, although you'd have to be a mental case to think like that...

Then again look who was sitting next to him at the press conference, Mr Stability.

Of course that wasn't a set up.

Haye was only there in his capacity as a commentator. It was Boente that started talking to him. Can't really blame Haye for hitting Chisora first given how unpredictable the guy is. And the bottle is just completely irrelevant to anything, he clearly wasn't using it as a weapon.

The fact he accidentally twatted his own trainer with a camera tripod makes it seem even less likely that anything was choreographed.

Sure, you can toss words around like 'disgrace' and 'embarrassment'. I thought it was brilliant. This sort of thing's always happened in boxing, no real harm has been done whatsoever and people are actually talking about heavyweight boxing again, if perhaps not for the best of reasons.

Chisora Haye in Britain would get a massive crowd off the back of that. It's a fight I wouldn't mind seeing at all, winner then gets Vitali. He hasn't really got anyone else to fight. However I can't see him going for this because at his age Haye would actually have a fair chance of beating him.

So because Haye was a commentator he had to be at the press conference?

And what's this about the bottle thing being irrelevent? He hit chisora with it with such force that it exloded. I don't think that is irrelevent at all. It's absolutely mental to suggest the bottle is irrelevant.

And I will bandy words like 'disgrace' and 'embarrassment' you patronising toe-rag. Because that's what it is. If you get a buzz off that shite then you are clearly the lowest common denominator I'm talking about.

The whole sorry show from beginning to end was pathetic.

1PA, I have no idea where you are pulling that train of thought from. There is a difference between the ability to sell a fight and looking like two street thugs fighting outside a council estate bar.

Mayweather can sell a fight by talking it up or squaring up to people, basically playing small mindgames but at the end of the day there is always a degree of respect there. Boxing first and foremost should teach a fighter the art of discipline. Those two clowns have let the sport down and British boxing down with the way they got on. Why should either of them warrant a World Title fight off the back of that press conference? Neither of them fit to be a champion and to be honest neither of them are good enough. This has already been shown. Two desperate sub-par boxers yapping at the heels in one last attempt at relevancy.

This hits the nail on the head. Boxing, and all other martial arts, have a code that supposedly teaches respect, control, and discipline.

Even in build-up interviews and stuff fighters like Haye and Chisora always bang on about how boxing taught them these things. You see if every time the cliche of the inner-city boxing gym is touted on the news or on something like the one show.

If it was a setup then it was just good business, a lot of people have no interest in boxing in general but will take an interest if it's hyped enough. The Chisora/Klitschko fight had barely registered on my radar until I saw the pre-fight slap linked on Facebook - I ended up watching the whole fight, and will most probably watch Chisora/Haye if it happens now too thanks to the brawl. I can understand from the purists' POV how it is disgusting, it shames boxing etc, but from a non-purists' POV this is what makes boxing worth watching.

The cliché about boxing teaching you discipline surely only applies inside the ring in reality, especially at the higher end when it's all about selling tickets. There's something if not ironic then certainly amusing about these scenes being condemned on a wrestling forum.

A better way of drawing a crowd would be to fight well and show some ability, like Chisora did, to a certain extent, and Haye utterly failed to do. Posturing like that is worthless if the fighters themselves can't do the business in the ring, otherwise it is counter-productive. See David Haye last summer, when he did his best to sell the fight then produced an utterly inept performance that probably will put as many people off boxing as it brings in, in terms of casual fans. Boxing is supposed to be a sport, brawls like that just make it look thuggish and grubby.

It has absolutely nothing to do with being a purist or a non-purist. I am not tarring you with a brush here Simon, but the people who will watch the inevitable Chisora-Haye fight because of the brawl are the same people who give a happy slap video on Youtube 8 million views. What the press conference did was take it from the boxing realm to the media circus parade.

To touch on Gatesy's point, does Manny Pac need to parade around like an oof at a press conference to get some ticket sales? No, he does it with his in-ring performances. Ali sold out the world with his ability to garner interest in his fights with a mixture of charisma, the art of trash talking, unnatural talent and under lying political affiliations to name but a few.

Why bother even fucking posting in this shit hole anymore condemning anything if people are just going to fucking say 'oh its a wrestling forum at the end of the day'. Complete fucking shite.

The bottle didn't explode you drama queen.

He punched Chisora whilst holding the bottle, you can hear it drop and roll off for fuck sake. Totally different to bottling someone.

I couldn't give a shit about this really, people fight all the time. Just coz they weren't half naked and in a ring everyone's jumping on them for it. It is what it is, they've apologised now move on.

Saw a mate on Facebook putting it pretty well actually, Vitali Klitschko is sitting there as a Heavyweight champion, a multilingual family man who holds a PhD (same as his brother), and what most people will take away from it is that those two pricks brawling like a couple of beered up cunts on a Saturday night are the faces of professional boxing.

The Klitschkos have had plenty of time to attract spectators to heavyweight boxing through their performances. Unfortunately the heavyweight division is about as stagnant as it's ever been due to their robotic dominance, whatever you might think about them as people. Unfortunately saying that fighters should simply attract fans in the ring is easier said than done.

Pacquiao is a crap example. He's a freak. It's not surprising that the best 2 p4p fighters in the world are popular with fans, but outside the top tier only hardcore fans give a shit, mainstream interest is negligible. Moreso in the heavyweight division.

I agree pretty much. There is nobody coming through when Pac and Mayweather retire. The Klits made money, but they wont hold the sport up alone.

The Heavyweight division hasn't been relevant since Lewis, Holyfield and Tyson retired. Boxing will be fine. There is an incredible amount of solid young talent that will keep the fans entertained. The bigger problem lies with the judging and general corruption. The lack of PR savvy or quality fighters is really not the problem at all. Even when shit David Haye and shit Chisora go out an embarrass themselves it does nothing to stain boxing. Tyson was a fucking lunatic who made racial slurs, sexist slurs, threatened children and women, and acted like a nutcase in almost every appearance and he was a bit of a hero.

I am really pleased this fight was made. Should stylistically be a much better fight for Froch than the Ward mess. I see this one going 12 unless Froch exposes something we didnt know about Bute's chin.

I'm a bit worried about Bute's chin honestly. It hasn't been tested all that much thus far (only Andrade did hit him hard - Lucian was exhausted though). I don't think that Froch is fast enough to hurt Bute. We never know though. It should be a great fight for sure (more interesting that the Glen Johnson one for sure).

Wladimir and Vitali should both retire. This is way too easy. David the absolute joke Haye should be next again. No competition whatsoever.

There are two boxers who dominate the heavyweight division right now, no question about it.

So why have the various boxing organisations not made the obvious boxers the no.1 contenders and forced manditory defences?

Or simply why has someone not given us Klitchko vs Klitchko?

I'm guessing it's because the brothers don't want it but surely that's not the point is it? Although then again I wonder if Vitali will fight again after his shoulder went again against Chikora.

Wlad's next fight is supposed to be a mandatory for his IBF belt. Against Tony Thompson, who he has beaten before, and is shit. This is why they can keep hold of all the belts, as they are quite happy taking their mandatory's. It's not like they can be accused of ducking anyone, there is literally no-one out there who you would give a shot at beating them.

    Top 5 IBF Ranking

    2 Tony Thompson United States
    3 Robert Helenius Germany
    4 Chris Arreola United States
    5 Denis Boytsov Germany
    6 Maurice Harris

    All absolute garbage.

WBA's number one contender, Hasim Rahman. Whose last defeat was against, surprise surprise, Wlad, and since then has proceeded to knock over 5 cans and is now number one again.

The only boxer left worth throwing at them is Povetkin, but he'll just get smashed like everyone else.

Yeah, they've beaten everybody but Povetkin between them. Povetkin barely beat cruiserweight Marco Huck last time out. Rahman getting back up there is hilarious, is fight against Wlad was hideously one sided. If Holyfield wins a fight against somebody with a top 10 ranking (which he won't - he is fucked as an athlete, but still), he'd get a shot at the world title! My dream is for that to happen and for Vitali's shoulder to flare up making a 50 year old Holyfield the champion of the world.

Haha just remembered that Holyfield pretty much beat Valuev before David Haye, 20 years his junior, somehow was considered a "tactical genius" for scraping past the same massive heap of shit.

Seth Mitchell looks pretty bad ass, I doubt he has the technical skill to get anywhere near the champs though. Fury is world number 5 according to Boxrec - says a lot.

Fury is great to watch but if he's being taken seriously on the World stage then that doesn't say much for the World stage.

Fury could be good if he's left alone for three/four years to develope, if he's pushed to far now he'll get squashed and never be as good as he could be if treated right.

Furys problem is going to be his temperament and the idiots who surround him (e.g. his dad who is in jail for gouging out someone's eye)

Salido vs. Lopez is probably the fight of the year up to this point. It was fairly one sided but exciting as hell. I think Showtime is replaying it tonight if you missed it.

    And now with Stieglitz.

Anyone see the Fury fight on Saturday? I still don't know what to make of him. He looked in good physical shape for once, but for those first couple of rounds he was letting himself get back up by a 40 year old cabbie.

Now Cleverly's dropped out of that shit fight against the no hoper.

Wonder if all the dropouts are because Warren can't afford to pay any of them. Apparently he owes a lot of his guys money and BoxNation isn't doing very well (hardly surprising)

Mayweather and Khan on points looks a tasty double. Any truth to the rumour that Joe Cortez is the ref? Even better bet if so...

Bute will beat Froch I'm afraid mate.

Nah, not in Nottingham. Froch wins a hard fought split decision

Mosley has never been stopped, I really don't think Canelo can do it even at this stage of Mosley's career. Evens money there is the best bet going, I reckon.

No one watch the fight on Saturday then?

Before the fight what caught my attention was Justin Bieber walking alongside Mayweather to the ring. I didn't mind Lil Wayne, I didn't mind Triple H, I didn't mind Mayweather's mate (the little fish that follow sharks) 50 cent, but Justin Bieber ? Now that seemed out of place, and well, it was.

Miguel Cotto is in fact the champion of this bout and therefore comes out second, with no entourage, just the nessecary people, his trainer and his son, total class

The judges final scores were 118-110, 117-111, 117-111 all in favor of Floyd Mayweather Jr, I had it closer than that. But Floyd Mayweather remains on top of the boxing world with yet another impressive performance. Was it his most impressive one, not even close. But he did face a game Cotto who came to win, a Cotto with a great trainer and game plan. Still it wasn't enough for Mayweather's overall ring intelligence and boxing abilities. Cotto showed he is no push over and still compete with the elite fighters of the sports.

Was a decent fight Saturday. Justin Bieber LOL, yeah we all said exactly the same thing. wtf.

But who cares about Saturday? Chisora Haye confirmed at Upton Park this Summer, sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Association

What an absolute farce. The buildup should be a right laugh though. Potentially decent fight too, although Haye should win without too much difficulty.

Chisora said: 'I saw David Haye a couple of weeks and he pulled a knife.

Haye responded: 'I was eating a steak. It was in a restaurant.'

The build up should be marvelous, as long as Haye keeps his head he'll have Chisora foaming at the mouth by the time they finally meet, then he can pick him appart in the ring and the two of them can both sod off.

It'll be a good test of Haye's power at heavyweight. Chisora is hittable but has a tremendous chin. Could Chisora knock Haye out? Probably not.

I see Lamont Peterson has failed a drugs test, which is a great shame. But as long as Froch/Bute goes ahead as planned I'm happy.

The whole thing is annoying me, to be honest. Two crap boxers, the whole thing being blatently set-up from day one, and now the BBBC adding to the complete farce by threatening to excommunicate anyone involved when they must know that no action they take would have a chance of standing up in any court.

The whole thing seems very WWE.

Really disappointed in Peterson. I was looking forward to Khan making the adjustment and picking him apart.

I really enjoyed the Cotto fight. Both guys did exactly what they were supposed to. Cotto really should have manned up and given Floyd his due be after the fight. I am always annoyed when fighters refuse to grant post fight interviews, but particularly here. Miguel had nothing to be ashamed of or upset about.

I feel a bit dirty as I've actually bought a pair of tickets for the Haye fight. Don't know why, as they're both a pair of bellends, hope Chisora does a number on him though. (He won't). I think what makes it worse is that you've got a good honest fighter in Carl Froch who can't even sell out against Bute, in what should be a fight that is about 100 times better.

Thinking about going to that - they've still got £45 tickets available. A pity I am absolutely broke this month.

We will do this. Cricket in the day, boxing in the evening. A nice little day out in Nottingham.

£10 for a month though. Beats paying £15 on Sky for Harrison/Haye with virtually no undercard.

I think they've blamed it on Sky making them wait for an HD slot, or something like that.

Wait til you see the production value! Proper Mcleish.

So Peterson admits he had testosterone injections before the Khan fight, admits he didn't make anyone aware, yet still thinks he's done nothing wrong and should still be the champion because some mythical doctor told him he could because his hormone levels were low.

I want a match against Klitchko, I'm bringing a shotgun I know it's not in the rules but I'm just not going to tell anyone and my doctor says I have low blood sugar so that'll be ok then yeah?

And he still needed a dodgy result to win

It worries me that the result can be left to stand, I'm not the biggest fan of Khan but the whole match is an absolute joke now but to allow Peterson to walk away with the belts would be a joke.

To be fair, I just assumed it was on Box Nation as well. Sky have done a pretty shitty job of hyping this. Feel a bit sorry for Froch.

Sky have had adverts on all week, dedicated almost an entire hour on Ringside to it and also had a half hour behind the scenes documentary on Froch repeated over the past week as well. Not sure what more they can do.

I've barely seen any TV programmes. It's mostly Froch adverts.

It's a huge fight and Sky have been promoting it as such, as you would expect.

I'd say it's the third biggest fight to be staged in Britain over the past decade, behind Hatton/Tszyu and Calzaghe/Kessler.

I've just seen the advert, yeah, I've seen it fucking loads this week, I don't know what I've been going on about. It's just one of those things that's swam through my head, without me really concentrating on the detail and it sticking in there. I'm getting fucking old lads, help me.
