I have him leading on the cards, dont see how the commentary team is seeing different. But its not boding well for Fury's chances of making it into the big leagues.

They just talked about McDermott's punch percentage, yet ignored Fury's which was higher despite the fact that he'd also thrown more. What fucking fight are they watching?

Haha, blatantly obvious that they were going to give it to Fury there. Not a great performance in the end, but certainly not as one sided as they were making it out to be.

How cliche. I wouldnt say that the decision was a robbery, could've gone either way. The judging was though.

Really? I had it 97-93 to McDermott and I'm a huge Fury fan.

Prizefighter draw by "Iron Mike" next. The start of Audleys push to the top if the division

Depends how you judge really. Lots of judges change their scorecards in the end to reflect what they've seen in the last few rounds. Particularly when the ref is judging. McDermott couldnt have gone on much longer.

Fury was in the ascendancy but only because he was having to go for the KO after being schooled earlier on. McDermott landed more punches and Fury didn't seem to be hurting him. Fury was leaning on McDermott a lot at the end, if was a 15 rounder McDermott would of outlasted him. At the end of the ninth Tyson said, "I'm dead."

Fury did well though considering he made his debut less than a year ago, his chin and heart look good.

Wasn't a tiitle shot for Fury was it? I thought Williams still had the gold.

EDIT - Ah, probably English title then.

I honestly care so little. It's like a different sport to watching guys like Pacquiao and Cotto. Or even Haye.

Yeah, watching boxers with upside on the way up really isn't exciting. It's just builders, roadsweepers, chef's and close decisions going in your favour.

    Anyone been watching Mayweather/Marquez 24/7?

    http://www.livefight.com/boxingforum

All three are on there, plus loads of other random fights/vids.

I'll be rooting for Marquez this weekend, like most people I'd assume. I think Floyd will have that bit too much for him, extra size and speed, enough to see out a decision. But I'm hoping Marquez can rough him up a bit, find a way into the fight and have some joy. I don't think Marquez is the sort of fighter that anyone would have an easy time against - he'll find a way to get some joy.

Really looking forward to this, as well as Pacquiao/Cotto. Seems like ages since there was a superfight. The undercard for Floyd/JMM is quality too, plus UFC 103 will on the other channel. Perfect lads night with a few beers

As a boxing fan, I realize that Mayweather will undoubtedly knock him out in the later rounds, or win a wide decision. But there is certainly something to say for Marquez not being a fight you take after a 2 year break, no matter who you are.

Mayweather will be led to the ring by Triple H .

Mayweather should win, probably 10-2/9-3. Don't think it'll be closer than that, too big, too quick. Marquez was struggling with Juan Diaz's speed, getting hit quite a bit, if he goes behind early he'll be chasing and will get picked off. I hope he can pull it off but I doubt it.

Shane Mosley is the toughest match-up for Mayweather. All the tools and bigger. Floyd would never take that fight though, risk/reward ratio is too steep.

    he was so excited too.

It does seem even more likely he walked infront of a bus now after that.

Either that or he was infact secretly Ricky Hatton, and he doesn't post here because he's now a dribbling mess after Pac Man killed him.

Not long now towards the big fight tomorrow.

The real test for Mayweather is when that opening bell rings only then will we see if Mayweather is truly back, when Marquez throws his jab only then will we see if the reflexes are at the level they were before the hiatus. It’s possible that the hiatus has recharged Mayweather’s batteries and his more ready to go then for any fight in his career in which case Marquez is in big trouble a focused Mayweather is a frightening sight in boxing as he has the ability to not get hit but also to land combos of punches on his opponent.

People may question his status as he has never been pushed to the limit the closest he came was in the first Castillo fight in which he was reported to be injured but even then somehow managed to work out the decision. A lot of people say he was gifted the decision this seemed to anger Mayweather as he gave Castillo a rematch and went on to score the decision again. Following both the Castillo fights people thought Castillo had shown how to potentially beat Mayweather but still he remains unbeaten. Many have tried to copy it/improve upon it such as De La Hoya and Hatton but both were out done by the skill of Mayweather. Hopefully Marquez can push Mayweather to places that he has never been before.

I'm hoping Marquez wins but I just cant see it.

Triple H just cut a weak promo at the weigh in for tomorrow's fight. No clue what drawing power they think will get out of his appearance, but I suppose there are some crossover fans who will get excited enough to see HHH's ring walk that they will pay the 50 bucks.

Either way, if Mayweather spits water I will shit my pants.

The fight is replayed tomorrow at 8am and 10am, but I'll probably stay up and watch it live anyway. It doesn't feel the same otherwise...

There's a good undercard to keep me entertained before it starts too.

Marquez must be gutted that all that piss drinking was for nothing.

I wonder how Floyd would do at Light middle. I would love to see him take on Paul Williams, James Kirkland or Anthony "Sugar Ray Clay Jones Jr" Small.

So where does everybody rank Mayweather in terms of all time standings? Obviously immensely talented and would have a great chance at beating anybody in history at 147 and below, but it's hard to put him in any weight class top 10 except super-feather because he's gone through them so fast. To be honest, if it's legacy he wants he should stay at welterweight and aspire to be the best ever at that weight (behind the original Sugar Ray though obviously) rather than fanny about with 154. Preference would be Mosley, Pacquiao/Cotto, Paul Williams if he can still boil down, the rebuilt loser of Pac/Cotto and then Berto if he can get some shine on him and keep the 0 over the next 2 years.

Doubt Floyd will go anywhere near Williams. That wouldn't be a good fight for him to take, not against a guy with his reach. Besides, Williams is facing Pavlik towards the end of the year and has a fair shot at beating him - I reckon he'll hang around at middleweight for a while.

Still not sure whether Floyd will meet Mosley. That is the fight that makes sense right now. They could arrange that for early next year, with the winner facing the winner of Pac/Cotto in the summer. Unless Mosley/Clottey has already been finalised? There really aren't many big fights out there between 140 and 154 right now besides Pacquiao, Cotto and Mosley.

It's an absolute disgrace that we brits can't watch Vitali v Arreola tonight. Vitali to win by late stoppage.

We used to get all the HBO fights through Setanta but they went bust. Sky pick up some of them but not this one it seems.

I can't be arsed staying up to watch a stream, I like the option to video it if I flake out.

Fairly predictable bout. I appreciate Arreola's desire and thought he did an admirable job against big Vit, but I don't really see any heavyweight being able to hang with Vitali outside of his family.

Arreola also gave one of the funnier post fight interviews in recent memory...

No one can stop big Vit.

I think Arreola will pick up a belt somewhere down the line, he is still young. I would love to see Arreola v Haye.

Still no news on what channel the Super 6 Classic will be on over here. Ridiculous stuff, Froch is quite easily the most entertaining World-level Brit, both inside the ring and out. Get the chequebook out Sky. Been reading Boxing Monthly and Froch is a fucking quote machine. Great human being.

I hope some bloody channel picks it up, it will be a joke if I can't see any off the fights live.

Won't ITV be showing Froch fights?

I'm really looking forward to the prizefighters tonight, I love how Aud is still saying he can be world champion.

I hope Audley wins. He will probably declare it the single greatest achievement in heavyweight boxing history and call out the Klitschko's to face him back to back.

Its more interesting to see what he might say if he loses. I'm guessing something along the lines of "Of course this is a setback, but I'm only in my early thirties and I turned pro late. I've still got three years of my career left and if I can get a title shot within the next 18 months, then thats a year and a half of big title defences, an attempt at unifying the title and then I'll challenge God to a fight".

In fairness to Harrison, he throws fucking good punches and certainly has the boxing ability to defeat anyone. Unfortunately, he's got no ability to take punches, looks frightened when in defence and is incapable of stepping up above domestic level. Everyone that fought yesterday Tyson Fury (who is nowhere near world level) would've also defeated even easier. If anything, Fury should be the next opponent Harrison wants.

If Fury beats McDermott, you'd think that would be the fight to make for the vacant British title. Then winner faces the winner of Sexton vs. Rogan.

    Ahahahahahaha....

He might be able to anticipate openings and utilise the two to three punches he lands in every round, but he has far greater shortcomings than his glass jaw.
I mean he's hardly Amir Khan, is he Mik.

Anyone else nearly piss a bit when Williams got merked?
I started to feel bad in the third round when he actually hurt the guy.

Really looking forward to the Super 6. I haven't seen the the full bracketing, but I really hope we get the Taylor vs. Froch rematch(I don't see either guy wining their first fight though...). Andre Ward is a fucking beast and if he and Dirrell meet I am going to a very happy man.

Actually, Froch may be able to get past Dirrell just based on his experience factor, and his heart. I do think Arthur Abrahim is going to tear up Taylor late in the fight. The guy is literally impossible to hit and has DEVASTING power. He could be a sleeper to win the entire thing.

    Fight that just went down in NZ;

Worth watching. Tua batters Cameron at the end of Round 1 and finishes it in round 2. Very heavy punches.

Shame Froch isn't on UK TV. AGAIN.

Absolutely pathetic. Along with Haye he's now our best boxer FFS - and one of only two world champions. Shocking how Sky haven't done a deal.

Haye is on Box Office. Shame, because even though they'll obviously gets some buys, a British fighter hopefully winning the heavyweight title would've been huge for the sport of boxing over here if it were on normal Sky Sports, available to more eyes. The Froch thing is a disgrace though, he's got the personality and fighting style to be fucking massive if they commit to him. How anybody would rather watch Amir Khan EXECUTE THE GAMEPLAN~! and give boring, cliched interviews rather than Froch's back and forth tussles and ridiculous quotes, I don't know.

Ward's promoters have been mugged there. Edison Miranda is a tough fighter, but he has been Ward's only real preparation for fighting the best boxer in his weight class in the first bout. Could he have the class to beat him when he's at his peak and tried and tested at World level? Possibly. But there's no chance he beats Kessler in November with such a lack of high calibre opposition. It really is sink or swim for the young Yank's, and they won't be ready for it.

Ward and Dirrell are both in the same boat. I have watched almost all of their fights. In his most recent tuneup Ward looked far better than I have ever seen him. i believe he has a chance. He certainly has a speed advantage, and Ward isn't lacking in pop as some suggest.

It is a massive step up in class though. He might be fortunate that Kessler hasn't been particularly active since the Calzaghe fight, but at 30 years old he should still be at his peak. And at his peak he gave Calzaghe a great fight. Ward, if he were being protected, would have a great chance against the Sakio Bika's of the division, preparing him and nuturing his progress as a 12 round fighter before a bout with one of the divisions top boxers. I'm glad he's not being brought along like that because it's all too frequent, but it's the way to do it properly if you want the boxer to grow.

    Exactly.

I love Froch always followed his fights after Joe Calzaghe, hopefully it's him and Kessler in the final with a class Froch/Taylor semi along the way.

If Froch faces Taylor again, its unlikely that he'll get beyond him. I like Froch, but I dont see him competing in this tournament really. He's easily outboxed by anyone with any real skills. Kessler would likely knock him out.

I have mixed feelings on that. Someone who is in the place Ward is is likely going to flourish long term from this format. Getting thrown into a round robin with 5 of the better Super-Middleweights in the world is going to mature him quickly. It isn't as though this is a prizefighter where they have to do it all in 1 night, or even in 1 month. The fights will be generously spaced, and I don't believe it becomes single elimination until after the second stage. Even if he doesn't get past Kessler, he certainly will be in the mix until at least the later stages.

Keeping in mind that Kessler had a tough time with Calzaghe's speed, Ward is one of the faster, better fighters in the Super 6. His footwork is stellar, and he transitions seamlessly from Orthodox to South Paw(possibly better than anyone else right now).

Mark my words. Don't sleep on Ward.

Taylor came in to the last fight in better condition than he had been in for 3 years. Even then he broke down over the course of the fight. If Taylor could work out his stamina issues he could win this tournament easily. The problem is that he can't, and Froch rang his fucking bell badly. I'd be surprised if Jermaine is even the same fighter in this tourney.

It wasnt so much the speed that Kessler struggled with. Calzaghe was fast from the beginning and Kessler was tagging him very early. It was the adjustment that Calzaghe made (something few fighters are capable mid-fight to such an extent), fighting on the outside, controlling the pace and picking him off. It was the CONSTANT work-rate from Calzaghe. Being able to throw over 100 punches every single round. Kessler couldnt cope with him. Fortunately for Kessler, there has never been anyone else in the SMW division capable of doing that. Had Calzaghe not adjusted, he wouldnt have won the fight.

I'd be surprised if Jermaine is even the same fighter in this tourney.
Yeah, thats true. I'm expecting Taylor to be better for this though. His heart is terrible, worse even than his stamina. All he needed to do was close out the fight, he had easily out-boxed Froch, he just needed the heart to gut it out to the final bell. Instead he hung his chin out.

I'm not sure thats strictly true. We've seen his style in every single fight. He's got a great chin, incredible heart and power. But a good boxer can easily neutralise his attack, as seen by Taylor. Problem with Taylor is that he's a fucking coward who cant last a full fight.

On Taylor, I was reading in Boxing Monthly that he has got a nutritionist in who is helping to get him down to weight gradually. Taylor reckons his problems have stemmed from boiling down too quickly towards weigh in. Probably your typical boxer nonsense about finding a magic solution to their obvious failures, but we shall see.

Nathan Cleverly vs Courtney Fry on Friday, should be alright, I expect Cleverly to come through comfortably though.

He does not have the technical abilities to defeat anyone. That's ridiculous.
You've just explained why too, so don't prattle on like a tosser.

He's been carried by press and by fighting farmed out fighters who couldn't make the grade against anyone else. He has been made to look a dick in many of these fights, despite winning most.

In fact, so much so that despite his size and strength advantage against many of his opponents he still looks an unreliable bet and cowardice or not, he would never be a prize fighter.

    You are a Harrison mark.

Are you an actual fucking idiot?

He has at his disposal the arsenal of weapons to defeat anyone. He has the technical ability to defeat anyone. As an amateur boxer of Olympic Gold pedigree, his technical credentials are as good as the best heavyweights currently in the sport. However, as I have pointed out repeatedly, his limitations are such to determine that such an event will never happen. I've never said that he will overcome these negative qualities, because he wont, cos he's shit.

The press havent 'carried' him anywhere. The press has poured more scorn and derision on him than any other British Heavyweight 'contender' than any I can remember in recent history, because they dont like the fact that he went to America to train and is a heartless, gutless pussy. I can rarely remember seeing a British title contender given so much trashtalk by British commentators as Harrison was in his fights against Williams, deservedly so.

I've stated repeatedly and clearly a number of times in this thread and many others that I cant stand Harrison, that I think that he's a wanker and that he's a shit boxer because he never even came close to fulfilling the bags on potential that he had. But I'm not ignorant and stupid enough to fail to realise that he does have that potential.

Apparently, not only are you ignorant enough to realise the truth. But you're also stupid enough to completely misinterpret something that is fairly clear to anyone with the ability to read...ie that I dont like Audley Harrison as a boxer whatsoever.

Whats worse is that you've got a shit knowledge of boxing. So before trying to debate with me about things that I've already said myself, try improving your own knowledge of boxing, your brain and general ability to THINK, as well as improve your 1st grade reading level to be able to UNDERSTAND what people are saying, when its clear as day written in front of you.

I read that about Taylor too, not sure what to make of it.

Anyway good article on Taylor this, I'm one of his biggest fans and will be rooting for him to win the tournament.

Cleverley was excellent last night, he is probably still a few years away from world level though.

Did anyone catch David Haye's press conference?

If he gets killed it's probably all his own fault.

Valuev doesnt have the power or speed to kill anyone. Haye might find it a very difficult fight to get in range though.

I am starting to think that he is going to get battered.

That's a tremendous example of ironically poor grammar and syntax, Mik.

Way to defend Audley Harrison, Britain's Olympic champ.

Who needs Amir Khan and his flamboyant style when you can have the tried and tested Audley Harrison, a man with shit for brains, a yellow belly but the hands of a prizefighter...

You're close to agreeing with me but have stalled at the Olympic part.
Again, throwing three punches and landing them per round is not boxing, nor does it make you a boxer.

Is this an example of you acting like you know loads because you once put on some gloves and didn't get hit properly for three minutes?

    Defending Audley Harrison...that is mental.

I had 11 fights as an amateur boxer, including one for a regional title (which I lost). I trained and sparred twice a week for 4 years (11-15) in a gym in my hometown which produced a number of professional boxers, run by the last fighter to defeat Chris Eubank as an amateur. I've been to see more fights live than I care to remember and have even attended an ABA championships. Not only do I know more about the sport in practise, but I'd wager that I know SIGNIFICANTLY more about the history and the current stage of the sport. I'd bet that most of your assumptive knowledge stems from how many times you've had your fat nose broken in street fights.

My grammar and syntax were both fine. I didnt defend Audley Harrison. You're an idiot to claim that he doesnt have a good boxing brain. You're an idiot for thinking that amateur boxing is not all about technique and that Olympic gold medals are almost always highly skilled technical boxers (bearing in mind the Olympics stems around the concept of 'hit and dont get hit' which is the golden rule of professional boxing). In fact, you're just an idiot generally. You dont know what your argument is, you dont seem to know what my argument is, you dont know anything you're arguing about and you dont even know how to argue.
