The amount of assists that TAA is insane.

25 in the league already in his career. TWENTY-FIVE.

To put that into perspective he's like 17th all-time for a defender (not counting Ashley Young and Valencia who got most of their assists as wingers) already.

There's like 4 active players ahead of him (including Robertson on the other flank) but wouldn't surprise me to see him in top 10 by early next season. MONSTER

Yeah, to break his own record for a full back, set the previous season, and still have 11 games to add to it is unreal. Difficult to see how he won't hit 20 league assists this season. Ridiculous stuff.

Oh lads, I'm convinced we are getting relegated now. The Southampton performance was absolutely abysmal, to the point where Dean Smith came out and said "there are too many training ground players - this was our cup final, not next week, and a few of them have played their way out of the team with that". Our defence is so shocking.

I think we've got so much potential as a team. Obviously McGinn and Wesley have been a big miss. Reina has been an adequate deputy for Heaton but fuck me it's literally a race between Bournemouth, West Ham, Watford and us to see who are the two least shit teams of the four to stay up right now.

Leicester away and Chelsea at home next two games after an all but assured third arse whooping of the season this weekend vs City. Christ.

Ah well Watford fully deserved it, thank fuck it wasn’t Everton, United or even Arsenal who ended it. Also thank fuck if we don’t drop anymore points, United can’t say it was only them who took any off us.

Fully concentrate on the treble now

    Hahaha.

Wouldn’t surprise me we go on to win every game were involved in now but with a draw or two in the away champions league games.

You know it’s bad when you’re 2-1 up at half time at home and fully expect to lose the game.

Is Henderson back yet? Until he is back, I don't think they are the same team.

If Villa play with the same sort of passion as we did against City yesterday in every game from now, we will stay up. We won't if we don't. McGinn cannot come back quick enough.

There must be more to the Sturridge story. 4 month ban for texting his brother "bet I go to Sevilla" seems really harsh.

Agreed. You would think they would have said something else otherwise though right? Don't they normally end up saying X bet on 350 matches including 5 of his own team etc?

Yep and technically can't play in the English league at least until next season as you have to be a free agent when the window closes.

So part of me wonders if this is a 'warning' to other players when materially it doesn't impact him from what I can tell

They gave numbers when that Scottish manager did it recently, however that seemed to be slanted towards the fact that he had a problem that he needed support with.

It looks that way. There was quite a bit of noise about an MLS move, and Atlanta both need a striker short term and could afford him without giving him DP status. I could see that fitting.

Footballs so fucked because they cosy up to bookies so long but then try to play the other side.

Such an uncomfortable albeit profitable relationship and the weirdness of the mina ban/fine, the fa cup broadcast things and the Rooney stuff all feels so weird then leagues and teams etc are sponsored to the hilt and all coverage is hitting you with odds left, right and centre.

Haha, the Beeb pundits going on about whether it's written in the stars for Troy Parrott to score a penalty in the shootout and he fucks it right up.

Very poor penalties from Spurs all round really, Krul should probably have saved from Dier as well.

What's old Eric Dier gone and done here then? I think his brother kicked off at a fan who was giving out to the Spurs players, so then Dier has gone charging up the seats to get involved?

It's not exactly Cantona but would be surprised if he didn't get a few games ban.

Yeah, even if all he did was talk to the fans, a player going into the stands has to be a suspension. There has to be zero tolerance for fans on the field and for players in the stands.

I would probably recommend either waiting to after the game or escorting him into the tunnel where they can meet in a better place.

While I agree that moment was great and I would miss them happening, it is just asking for trouble to allow players to go into the stands. But I would also make for some allowances if it is after the bulk of fans have left the grounds.

Mourinho at Tottenham feels like the continuation of a Jose Mourinho third season, just he wasn't there for the first bit of it.

Getting some enjoyment out of this league now that there's such a great deal of parity. If Everton beat Chelsea tomorrow (and Burnley hold on), 6 points will separate 4th and 12th.

    Exactly this, actually.

He normally starts throwing players under the proverbial bus in the 3rd season, not 4 or 5 months in.

Looking at the remaining games Spurs have, I don't see them picking up many points at all.

Tomorrow night may be the last Spurs match I watch this season.

VAR is absolutely hopeless. It’s bad enough when it takes an age to get to the right decision but the lack of action after long delays on the Gomez push and the Fred penalty this weekend, it’s laughable. Absolutely killing the game.

VAR's only as good as the referees checking the decisions. As we've just seen. Clearly hit Mings' shoulder, not overturned. Laughable.

I thought from front on it looked like it was the top of his arm rather than his shoulder or at least you couldn't be sure it wasn't and as such I think it should be like cricket and left to onfield calls.

This should be a supporting function nothing more. Can they categorically say it didn't hit the upper arm rather than shoulder? No ok Ref your call stands but it is a close one.

Vardy scoring I think his 98th and 99th premier league goals tonight deserves some proper respect

Yeah bit gutted now. I mean I thought we’d challenge for a treble, cos we’re that far ahead in the league. Pretty sure in a day and out my system I’m going to absolutely loving winning the league. If the season doesn’t get cancelled ffs.

League champions when both World Wars kicked off.

Down the bottom is more interesting I reckon, I mean Liverpool have won the league regardless and its a shit way to win it if the worst does happen but dealing with relegated (and promoted) clubs without ending the season with all the money involved would be a nightmare.

I don't see how they could do anything except say nobody moves this season. But either way you're going to have people upset.

Yeah that wouldn't be fair on the teams who are about to get promoted. There is no easy answer.

Champions league could be boxed off with an 8 team mini tournament over a weekend behind closed doors or whatever. Just a shame the Euros is on the horizon too.

Why not just suspended the season and carry on after a month or so.

But it's kind of an extension of the old 'if you aren't sure, you can't give it' rule right? If it reaches the point where they do actually have to cancel the season, and you've got the bottom six teams within 8 points of each other, that's the only way they could approach it in my opinion.

But hey, it's all unprecedented. It's going to be pretty fascinating as well as kind of terrifying.

Its fitting it in with the Euros also happening.

Do you want to be declared champions as opposed to actually "winning" it? That would be a bit rubbish surely?

Its one time I am delighted to be a fan of a middling team where their season is over before the Christmas decortions are down.

3 Leicester players have gone into self-isolation. Considering how many of them shit all over us on Monday, I assume the entire Villa squad will go into self-isolation now. Season cancelled, we stay up BOOOOOMMMM

That's that for football for a few weeks then. Makes the decision to have Wolves play earlier absolutely farcical as well.

Emergency premier league meeting scheduled in for tomorrow morning. Surely they need to be sensible here?

Looking at the games scheduled, the Watford/Leicester (3 possible cases at Leicester), Brighton/Arsenal, Villa/Chelsea (Villa just played Leicester) and West Ham/Wolves (West Ham played Arsenal last weekend) categorically can't happen. So you'd like to think they'd see sense, but they haven't yet so I'm not optimistic.

On a human level this is really bad and we're probably at the point where events are going to be postponed.

On a personal level this is going to cost me so much fucking money that I'm not entirely sure how much (if anything) I'm getting paid next month. Freelancing in football isn't the place to be.

Everton have self isolated the whole squad and staff. Allegedly a player has shown symptoms.

Makes sense I suppose seeing as we have played Chelsea and Arsenal recently.

This is a really interesting insight - a Prem footballer who has given away his entire salary for the last three years. One of the below the line comments on the article speculates that it could be Troy Deeney and I think that's a decent shout given the mouth on him.

I really would like football back. Behind closed doors, on a football island or something I don't care. I personally think hoping to write off this season for next is a bit of a worry incase of a 2nd round of corona because then do you cancel that season?

I think if you buffer the seasons you can get to the point maybe you start season after the Qatar world cup. I mean yeah maybe the world will change and fooball as we know it is dead but if we wait another 4 or 5 months a lot of the smaller clubs could well be dead anyway

I honestly think behind closed doors will lose its appeal so quickly. If it does come back I'll watch it, obviously, but I think the buzz of getting 'proper' football back much further down the line would make it worth the wait, rather than re-introducing it with a series of gradually-decreasing compromises. To be completely honest, I'm not really missing football at all, and in a way I'm quite glad of having a break from it. Granted I am mostly filling the gap with FIFA clubs, Football Manager and an endless series of football draft games with my mates, but still.

I'm not missing football either, to be honest. Hardly surprising, really, given my interest fucked right off when Spurs appointed Mourinho. Saw a tweet from Spurs on Sunday saying that it would have been the first NLD at the new stadium and I was like 'thank fuck'.

Even the Euro's being postponed hasn't really bothered me that much, which is slightly more surprising.

I don't know sof. I watched the United-Lask game in the empty stadium and I've definitely watched games where the crowds were quiet (lol United fans prawn sandwiches) but without anyone in the crowd it was like watching a practice scrimmage.

I hear you still have like 300 in the stadium for a game with no fans.

Really not sure how this is going to play out.

I think they would have to adapt the presentation for it to not feel soulless. The stadiums are so huge that you can't hear fuck all else other than the commentary. They'd have to mic up the coaching teams, the players, or both, to give it a bit of heart. I've got no interest in watching the football we got at the arse end of it like the United Europa game just mentioned. Football I would say is easily the least pleasing sport without live atmosphere, and that's because it's the sport with the least guaranteed action. The transitionary periods of a game are just deathly boring when it's a quiet ground, never mind silent. I think every other sport other than rugby has a feeling of immediacy to it, whereas football average what, 2.5 goals a game? 30 odd minutes per score, no atmosphere to it, nah.

Honestly football atmospheres are quiet most of the time when there's not big flashpoints anyway. I personally enjoyed PSG vs Dortmund a whole lot.

It's got so sanitized in stadiums and is so expensive there's not that much chanting most of the time anyway. When you're there yeah its class but if you're watching on IFollow or similar it's quiet enough most of the time.

Football with no crowd < Football with a crowd
Football with no crowd > No Football

I'm low key glad euros have moved because i was going to have to miss the game ive got tickets for due to birth of bambino #3 anyway

Prediction : Sound will be piped in for behind closed doors. Using an app or something for fans. It will be awful

They should get Vince McMahon's SmackDown crowd from the Attitude Era.

Strongly Agree. Many unimaginative people are using the LASK/United game or the Olympiacos/Wolves game as negative examples when one was the first game behind closed doors for safety at short notice and the other was a punishment - moreover these games might be played at training facilities anyway. Football will have to come up with creative ways to make this work across the board, and one of those will be ideas to add some atmosphere.

I do think they should reconsider having the games in giant empty stadiums. At least move to smaller venues.

I am fine with no fans for the short term to finish. But I probably would not start a new season until they can come back. If there can still be no fans next year, they need a better plan.

I like the idea of them using st georges or something. I know it removes the 'home' advantage but if you're behind closed doors im not sure it matters.

Stick the teams in hotels in the surrounding areas (countryside ones) and have them be there like if it was a world cup. Don't get me wrong the players may not be overjoyed with it but it protects their families, it makes it more like 6 or 7 big households if the hotel staff stay too (this is happeing at care homes already) and people cant congregate outside the venue right because it's a massive center yeah?

The TV stuff is stationary so it reduces their cost. The only issue would be playing multiple games a day but I think they have multiple pitches so....

I'm sure there's better ideas but there are options. I literally am chomping at the bit to watch Derby concede terrible goals again

I think the main issue you run into is the tribal aspect of football necessitates a gathering of the community, doesn't it? I think it's an inevitability that people will be going round each others houses to watch it. In that regard, I don't think you can bring it back until lockdown is relaxed to the point where that will be allowed. I think at some point in June it has to be, just based on the mental health aspect of this - people that live on their own will be struggling massively without significant human interaction, so there has to be some leeway at some point between now and June 6th, the prospective restart date. Whether it's the right thing to do or not in regards to the disease will be questioned, but I think it's an inevitability that you can't keep these restrictions much past, I'd say, another month.

I'd be happy if they just pumped FIFA soundtracks from the early naughty's into the stadium/complexes to be honest. Mic up the managers too, and you can air it on delay without a crowd so you can get the bleep on them when needed.
