And to be fair I'd be well pissed off too, to make this move so close to the start of the new season is quite disrespectfull.

What squad numbers are Hargreaves and Tevez going to have? I'm thinking of getting the new United shirt with one of those two on the back.

I'd suggest that you wait until they reveal that information then. Probably not worth just guessing about.

Rough guess lads, the Prem 20 in order come the endd of the season:

1: Man United - I think we've made great signings that should improve the side no end. If Vidic and Ferdinand stay healthy/off dope/murdering people, I think it'll be over by 1st May.

2: Chelsea - Great overall squad, but I don't think Drogba will have another season like 06/07 and I don't see anybody else stepping up.

3: Arsenal - I like what I've seen of them in pre-season, lots of grit and tenacity to go with the skill and flair. I think Fabregas will be the player of the season to be honest, and Van Persie is looking to be world class too.

4: Spurs - I know, fucking odd choice to have them over Liverpool, but I think they're a quality side with lots of depth. Should be deadly at set pieces, 4 natural goal scorers, and Lennon growing as a player. If King stays healthy and the midfield grow in strength I think they'll sneak it.

5: Liverpool - not been impressed by them in the pre-season matches I've seen. Great defense, but I'm not seeing a lot of goals out of them. I think this is the season where Stevie picks up an injury, and I don't think they'll play well without him.

6: Blackburn - great signing of Cruz, an experienced player who should work well with McCarthy. Gamst-Pederson and Bentley should grow as players and I think there defense is solid enough to get results.

7: Newcastle - good side. If Barton and Owen play for most of the season I think they'll be fine. Honestly, a midfield combination of Smith and Barton would be great for them, 2 tenacious players who work their socks off. A healthy Given is a neccessity, though. Maybe the most important player in the Prem for his team.

8: Villa - their young players will develop and a settled John Carew should have more output than last year. They're a season of developing away from getting back to where they were, but 8th would be solid for them.

9: Everton - good side, but I can't see them retaining last seasons form. Johnson's had injury troubles too.

10: West Ham - Dean Ashton's return is massive for them. If Green shows the form he showed towards the end of last season, he'll save them points.

11: Man City - Surely can't come any lower after so much spending?

12: Portsmouth - Pompey, Hammers and City are interchangable here. Portsmouth are a solid team and I think they'll still be in UEFA contention going into April.

13: Middlesborough - decent, capable side. Woodgate's health is the difference between them here and them looking at relegation if you ask me.

14: Sunderland - Keane's a blessing for them. His leadership skills will pass on and I think they'll be comfortable.

    15: Bolton - I think they'll struggle without Alladyce.

16: Reading - Can't see them repeating last season's form. These and above 3 teams very interchangable, they'll be safe, but not successful.

17: Birmingham - I think they'll just stay up. They'll get enough points at St. Andrews to be OK.

18: Fulham - Last day scrap with Blues, but I think their stint's coming to an end. Manager has made a mistake by signing so many Northern Ireland players. Bullard may be key to keeping them up.

19: Wigan - fuck off Dave Whelan.

20: Derby - not bought enough quality to survive.

How is sanchez signing good quality northern ireland players a mistake? Honestly sometimes you english cunts are so far up your own hole. Healy is a magestic signging at that price as is hughes who has premiership experience to burn. Davis at 4m is a bargain and a far better player than bullard technically.
Baird can play across the whole back line and so offers options.

What's wrong with any of those signings? its not like he signed warren feeny and james quinn for fucks sake

I'm starting to get hyped guys. Really hyped!

It's a season where Chelsea haven't spent a ton and Man Utd have brought mostly for the future or as cover. Liverpool have greatly boosted their squad but there is reasonable amount of speculation if they will effectively use their talent. It's a season Villa, Spurs, Everton, newcastle and even West ham have good claims for UFEA spots.

But most of all it's exciting because we get to see how good Wenegrs Super-babies really are. I mean Fabregas, van Persie, Diaby, Clichy, Rosicky, Hleb and Adebayor will set the Premier league on fire. Eduardo and Sagna will seem like the deals of the season and the defence will be forming a legend that will be spoken in the same bracket as the Graham back 4. BRING IT ON!

I've been almost jumping up and down all week.

I'm so happy that Spurs are in the first game of the season.

I'm not so happy that they'll all be wearing 'where's Maddy' t-shirts for the warm up and the hand shake; what a pile of crap that is.

I really do feel that we have a great chance, this year, to have the best season since I started watching football.

Whilst you're hardly favorites for relegation surely just not finishing in the bottom 3 would be a good season for Sunderland.

Then you can build from there. The way the finances currently work surely a couple of years in the top flight should, barring disaster, give you enough money to stay up for a very long time.

After yesterday's open training session Stevie Sidwell has got me really up for the new season. Plus it seems like more people have joined the campaign to get the Shed back singing and rival the Matthew Harding stand. Whenever I'm set for a great atmosphere I'm always disappointed, but I do have a good feeling about Sunday.

Lets regain the Premiership, Champions League would be an added bonus.

But then again maybe the deflation is already starting.

Keane said: "We've two other good goalkeepers, which adds competition, and you can't beat competition for places. The number one jersey was available, and obviously Craig is going to wear that. But we'll see how it goes over the next few days because I think he has had a slight shoulder problem, so it's touch and go."
Should Keane decide not to risk Gordon, then it is thought that Marton Fulop, who was our preferred goalkeeper over the pre-season, will start against his former club on Saturday lunchtime.

I can't fucking wait for Saturday, it's like Christmas but better.

Here is my prediction for the coming season.

    1. Chelsea - They suffered with injuries to key players last season and still took United close, Shev should be better this season and Malouda looks like a great buy.

    2. Man Utd.

    3. Liverpool - We have added some classy players this summer but I can't see us getting any closer to the 'big two'

United is the mistress mate. I got married in a synagogue

Some decent looking youngsters at United as usual. Simpson looks good at right back and Gibson has a hint of Scholes about him (apparently he's very highly rated by Fergie, any of the United lads on here know anything about him?).

Lee Martin seems to be the new Kieran Richardson ie. absolute fucking shit, and way too flash for someone who's not actually any good. Plus he doesn't pass and always makes the wrong decision.

So hyper for the new season now. Gotta work for the next 2 weekends, which is a big heap of shit. Everything football related is getting Sky+'ed. Our game against Villa is on at 5:15 next saturday on tele Gonna set it to record, turn the radios off at work, turn my phone off and watch it as "live" when I get in

Done it last season, it worked a treat. Small problem was that it was the home game against Sheffield Utd which we lost 1-0, and thus ruined my entire evening. Ach well.

Also, not sure if everyones aware, but Talksport have got some radio rights this year to live matches. More choice of what to listen to now on saturdays. They start with Bolton vs Newcastle this weekend, which is good I fully expect it to be rubbish, and full of adverts, but its gotta be a lot better then nothing. Theres nothing worse then having to work and just relying on texts/5 live updating every 15 minutes.

I made the rash decision yesterday of saying that the hours I was willing to work at this place were anything other than Saturdays, Sunday afternoons and midweek nights.

Also, I would say that there are plenty of things worse than relying on texts to find out scored. Being raped to death, for example.

Darron Gibson is a hero already because he was born in Free Derry and turned down Northern Ireland to play for the Republic, go on the IRA. Surprised no one booed him in East Belfast, mustn't have realised. It's a pity Jonny Evans wasn't fit for it, he's a class act and the crowd would have loved him.

Dong and that Campbell guy looked like they wouldn't even get on for Glentoran.

I have work to do this Saturday but I might hold until after Keano's first game in the Prem. I fucking love him. I want Sunderland to win the league.

Maybe if it was just after you had recieved a text saying you were 1-0 down. In that case, I could probably see your point.

I had high hopes for that Campbell as he looks like Samuel Eto'o with added milk, but he was indeed rubbish.

We had Martin at Stoke for the second half of last season. Didn't see as much of him as we might have as Hendrie played ahead of him when fit, but he put in some good performances when he had the chance (particularly against Southampton when he pretty much played them on his own first half.)

Certainly can't see him ever holding down a position at Man United but I'd love it if we could get him on loan for another year. He'll be a decent Premiership player in a couple of years

I'm increasingly liking the look of Nani. Sometimes he does complicate things with an excess number of tricks and stepovers, but his set-pieces and crossing is far better than Ronaldo's was at this stage of their respective careers. Plus, he works his arse off, especially when he has lost the ball (as opposed to Ronaldo who stands there with hands on hips).

You're spot on mate, I thought it was just me. There was one particular camera angle were he looked kinda bloated; I'd be surprised if that was the case this close to the start of the season. I'm sure the papers would've got wind of it if that was the case.

Guys is there any chance Owen Hargreaves will be a regular starter for United this year, just wondering if he is a wasted spot in my EPL Dreamteam.

    Cheers

I think he’ll be rotating with Carrick. With the amount of games United are likely to play this year, it’s safe to say that he’ll be starting in a good 25-30 games this year, at least.

Depending on form and injuries, of course.

Well thats the thing mate. This is the first time I can ever remember us being in the Premiership and not being widely predicted to go back down (even after the season when we finished 7th...then s7th again). Thats maybe when I'm actually genuinely excited for once.

Well, Carrick started the Community Shield last week, but Hargreaves probably wasn’t match fit.

Either way, there’ll be at least a fair few games where Hargreaves won’t start.

    Mik, a quick question.

It's last day of the season, and Sunderland need a win to stay up. They are away to Villa. It's 0-0, and Kieran Richardson bursts through in the 96th minute. He rounds the keeper, and has an open net. But then Rosk runs on the pitch, pushes Richardson over, and kicks the ball away to safety. The ref blows his whistle, and you get relegated.

Would you still be mates with him?

    Could you forgive him?

My love for Rosk is too deep for me to hold such a life-long grudge with him. However, I would lead a Sean Beanesque parade to the high-courts demanding that we be reinstated and thus fulfilling a life-long dream of stepping in the same boots as the Beanster.

Swerve ball: William Gallas is now Captain. Arsenal.com announced it. I doubt if that one is wrong:

    http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?t...to+older+heads

Gilberto and Toure as vice Captains. I suspose Gallas will be the guy who balances Wenger as he'll happily have a go at the players if needby. Gilberto is a fantastic vice-Captain as demonstrated last season and Wenger wants Lehmann to have a big role off field. Some good choices.

There's a strong rumour going around that Martin Jol has been training with the same XI players in his starting line up that we started with against Torino.

That would suggest that we'll start on Saturday with...

    Robinson
    Chimbonda
    Kaboul
    Dawson
    Rocha
    Steeeeed
    Jenas
    Zokora
    Tainio
    Berbatov
    Keane

...if anyone's added Bent into your fantasy league teams now's the time to swap him out.

Heinze's been swapped from number 4 to number 14, seems like he'll probably leave.

Man Utd's second string would qualify the UEFA Cup I'm fairly sure:

    Kuszczak
    Brown --- Pique --- Silvestre --- O'Shea
    Fletcher --- Carrick --- Park --- Nani
    Saha/Solksjaer --- Anderson

    Unlucky Chris Eagles M8.

Three days into the new season and already the first managerial casualty. Carlisle have sacked their manager, after allowing him to break their transfer record just days before

    Sack the board!

Something dodgy must have gone on there. They drew the opening game of the season and like you said he'd just broken the transfer fee record for the club...something odd there indeed.

Neil McDonald had seemingly to me done a good job at Carlisle continuing the work of Paul Simpson. Finished just outside the play-offs last season IIRC.

And its doubly and trebly baffling considering they refused Newcastle permission to talk to him about their assistant manager's job during the summer and let him spend a record amount on Joe Garner.

Quite a few midweek games, may as well have them in here rather than start a new thread as it's not a full schedule.

Spurs vs Everton tomorrow night, and then five matches on Wednesday:

    Birmingham v Sunderland, 19:45
    Fulham v Bolton, 19:45
    Man City v Derby, 19:45
    Portsmouth v Man Utd, 19:45
    Reading v Chelsea, 20:00
    Wigan v Middlesbrough, 20:00

Not a bad round of matches, when you look at it. I'm hopeful that we can get a win tomorrow night, perhaps 2-1...and then on Wednesday there are two games that might well be considered six-pointers if they were later on in the season (Brum/Sunderland and Wigan/Boro) - plus the two title favourites with tough away games.

    Great that football is back

The Spurs/Everton game is live on SS1 tomorrow, and Wigan/Boro will be live on SS1 on Wednesday. A rare midweek MOTD as well

Basically every other match on that night is 7-18 times more appealing than Wigan vs. Middlesbrough.

Dogfight game. Boro are going to be seriously shit if they sell the Yak and sign Mido. £7.2m they've offered for him (City offered £3m back in January, the last time he played any significant football for us), and they'll probably only get £10-12m for Yakubu, madness.
