So Harry Kane wants out. Hard to see Levy letting him go with 3 years left on his deal. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy to play up.

Who could ultimately afford him? By my reckoning, Man Utd, Man City, PSG...maybe Chelsea?

I agree there's no way he moves.

If he does I'd love to see him at United. But I imagine it will be City and he's really perfect for them.

Kane to City does reek of Durant to Golden State.

I'm not sure City would pay what is needed to get him, as he is 27 now. They tend to buy great young players between 21-25 and Kane doesn't fit that category. United would make more sense, I can see that one for sure.

He'll be 28 before the next season starts, 3 years on his Spurs deal and he has a questionable ankle.

I think he'll start next season at Spurs.

From all reports, he hasn't asked for a move. So maybe he's trying to force a bit of ambition out of Levy by having his agent, who is also his brother, leak the story that he wants to leave. The BBC reporting that the player thinks he has a 'gentlemen's agreement' that he can leave this summer, if true, then you'd really have to question the intelligence of the man.

All that said, if he wants out, no ifs buts or maybes, not even the most die hard Spurs fan could blame him. Spurs are a mess from the top down, it seems to me.

And if he goes, I hope it's to City.

It probably all hinges on how much he wants to act up and push the move through, and the damage he would do to his legacy at Spurs by doing so.

Obviously different situation, but Ashley Cole is reviled to this day by how he engineered his move to Chelsea. I think he had a lot of time on his contract left but his behaviour made it untenable. So we got William Gallas

I can't see him doing a Berbatov, no. Like you say, different situation.

Cracking timing with Spurs playing tonight at home, with a crowd.

Santos leaving Wolves confirmed. Surely Spurs bound then...he has a good track record, solid appointment?

Spurs have no interest, from what I hear. Not the style they're after.

Messi has just become a free agent.

Barcelona needed to move players out to renew Messi’s deal and they have not been able to find the solution. The club, whose total debt is about €1,173m, are constrained by the league’s salary cap. Messi has agreed to a 50% pay cut, dropping from about €45m basic, after tax, to closer to €20m.

The question is where Messi, who was 34 in June, will play next season. He tried to leave Barcelona in August 2020 after a breakdown in his relationship with then president Josep Maria Bartomeu but was forced to stay. Now, when he was keen to continue for longer, he is being made to go.

I still think he stays, despite the PSG talk. La Liga is far less appealing without him. And La Liga isn't what it was already, from all accounts.

It does seem amazing that La Liga is basically going to force the best player ever to leave their league. He wants to stay; Barca wants him to stay; La Liga just won't let them. Not hard to imagine they really regret that decision by December.

So is United going to be scary good or have Leeds just fallen off?

United should be scary good but their consistency has been suspect. Leeds have bounced back before. They might not get as high as last year but they should be fine.

Ronaldo back at Man United after seemingly saying “fuck this” to Juventus only hours ago. Amazing how a deal with City looked nailed on until Ferguson called him today and they’ve missed out on him and Kane now.

So Newcastle look like they are going to the Saudis. Can understand why their fans are happy, but some of the media fawning of Mohammed bin Salman is an absolute disgrace.

I won't link the Sun, but you can see it here.

It really is a race to the bottom in terms of football owners right now. You either have to be a ruthless businessman who wants to rip up the league system and make it impossible for your club to fail or a representative of state murder with pockets full of oil money. Sad days.

It's hard to blame the fans though, I think most of us would want our teams to be successful at all costs woudn't we?

I dunno, I think there is a line though. Chelsea are owned by someone who is essentially a mafia head. City and Newcastle's owners disregard human rights.

The American owned clubs have some pretty morally repugnant business practices but isnt the same as thr above in my eyes.

Where is that line though? North Korea? The Taliban? I'm not sure most football fans would care.

Disregarding human rights seems the right line.

But City and Newcastle fans don't care about the human rights abuses of their owners and I think that would be the same at any club. Would Arsenal fans be up in arms if the Saudis bought the club or would they be dreaming about being back in the Champions League?

I'm sure some are. Yes, you get the mindless morons dressing up in Saudi garb but I'm sure some are deeply uncomfortable being owned by a state that ordered a death of a journalist, tramples on womans rights etc.

I definitely would have an issue with it, I think a lot of fans would.

Some are, I would too but the opposition would not be enough to stop the takeover at any club. You would not get fans on the streets like you did for the ESL.

Nuno sacked from Spurs. It just wasn’t working out, but I can’t help but feel sorry for him given how he was so far down on the list of preferred candidates and had to deal with the never-ending saga of Kane staying or leaving over the summer. Now Levy is going to have to approach managers that he previously rejected or changed his mind about. And will they want to take on a squad which has gone so flat, with no money to spend? The search for a genuine replacement for Poch has been dire.

Yeah, but there's no one available at the moment to replace him with that will be long term beneficial. So I imagine we will wait.

The latest rumblings are that Ole is leaving by mutual agreement. Zidane and possibly Erik Ten Hag in the frame. I assume any serious talk of Rodgers taking over has been silenced by the worrying plunge in Leicester’s form.

It seems like a poisoned chalice for whoever takes over. So many structural problems to sort out and the lack of a proper long-term vision which could take a few years to undo. Is it enough for someone to come in, turn the performances around and still only finish 4th?

Poch is saying he’s happy at PSG. Reports suggest otherwise, especially with not having control over transfers and finding the squad unbalanced. Though with the latter issue, talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire with going to United. I think he’d be silly to move now. Unless something extraordinary happens, what can United achieve this season beyond an FA Cup and maybe top 4? He’d be tainted by that right out of the gate. Better that he gets a league title under his belt and then moves in the summer with a transfer window and a full pre-season. Though it will be sickening to think of him living in London with his family and not back at Spurs.

It was good to see Conte whipping up the crowd on Sunday. Really hope he can restore the players’ confidence.

I think Poch would be an end of season appointment.

Hope Spurs tighten up so this isn’t a complete humiliation by Chelsea tonight.

In other news, so much for the three-way title race. Seems like Man City will run away with it again. The battle for fourth looks more interesting now.

Spurs were awful that first half. Tie has gone now.

I mean, if Spurs score first in the second leg, it could be interesting, but I won't bother watching it myself.

Would love to see just a couple of players moved on and a couple in this month, but I don't see much happening.

Fight for 4th should be fun though between, hopefully, Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal and Utd.

Trippier to Newcastle. That is a solid signing. 2 or 3 more like that and I can see Newcastle staying up.

    They need a forward badly.

Depends what Trippier they get, but aye, could be a very, very solid signing.

So Jesse Marsch taking over at Leeds then..

I'm curious of any opinions from the 'natives' here, particularly given some of the early razzing and questions thrown around by some media and fans and whatnot. Lots of Ted Lasso jokes, but surely the analysis runs a shy bit deeper than that, ya?

If they don't survive relegation it won't matter much, but if he can keep them afloat that would make for a nice little story.

Some lovely goals from us yesterday, in fact all 3 of them. Looking good in terms of top 4 but some tough games ahead. Odegaard is superb.

I’d like to see Leeds stay up. They bring a great energy whether they’re winning or getting a drubbing. This is a good article about the skepticism around American managers. https://www.theguardian.com/football...premier-league

Everton look in real trouble. I can see Burnley picking up more points and overtaking them, so they might need to hope that they can edge out Leeds.

5 goals scored by Spurs and I can’t help but feel that Man United - who were awful at the weekend - will win on Saturday. It’s impossible to predict what we’ll be like from one match to the next.

Who would have thought both Everton and Leeds would be in deep trouble at the start of the season?

Everton especially look dreadful. They need to turn this round quick.

Chelsea are in trouble now that Abramovich has been sanctioned. They can’t sell further match tickets, their merchandise sales must stop and they can’t agree new contracts with players. I’m sure the government will issue a special license to get around a lot of these issues, but it could certainly slow down the selling of the club.

Simon Stone, BBC Sport football correspondent

There is no template for dealing with this type of situation and football's authorities are scrambling to work out the finer points.

For Chelsea, some elements are straightforward - and tricky.

They cannot offer new contracts - so the futures of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta are uncertain. The loan of Saul Niguez will not be turned into a permanent deal. Chelsea cannot sell the numerous players they have on loan, including Armando Broja, who has impressed so much at Southampton. Presumably numerous younger players they would have given contracts to now will not get them.

But what about the detail? Can Chelsea sell tickets to their own fans for away games given they as a club do not benefit? What will happen to the FA Cup semi-final - if they get there - when receipts are split between clubs? Can Premier League clubs like Brentford - who were part-way through selling their away allocation for their trip to Stamford Bridge on 2 April - still do so, or do they have to stop?

And as for the £20,000 limit on expenses for away games, Chelsea have matches next week at Lille and Middlesbrough. Both would cost substantially more than £20,000. Can individuals make contributions or will Chelsea have to reduce the cost with a less expensive form of accommodation for Thomas Tuchel's side?

Clearly, the sale of the club needs to happen quickly if there is not to be a major impact. But that is in the hands of the government.

Roman Abramovich's funding meant Chelsea emerged from the financial impact of Covid-19 relatively unscathed. They will not escape from this.

Alright lads, literally the only reason I've logged back in is because I was listening to the 90's football podcast "Quickly Kevin" (I've only just started and am massively catching up) and an email was sent in by our own, old, The Rosk. I know he's deleted his account so that's a shame - but it made me check back in.

I’m surprised people are saying that so soon. If Arsenal beat Southampton, they’ll be 7 points clear when they face City. And they eventually bounced back really well from a loss to City earlier in the year. But you do have a tougher run-in on paper. Some energy draining games with Real might make the difference.

Spurs used to have an infuriating symmetry where we played terribly in the first half and then woke up. Now nobody knows what will happen from one minute to the next.

Spurs are an utter mess, mate. From the top down. It really is quite bizarre. Depressing. Hilarious from the outside though.

Oh yeah, true. As mush as I moan, I fully understand it could be a lot worse. Can't see Spurs being in any financial trouble any time soon. That said, I can't watch them. Fuck me. Feel bad for the paying fans. Highest prices in Europe or some shit. To watch that dross? Christ.

I'd already almost given up, but the other week away to Everton. Was watching WrestleMania, but that finished and there was 20 minutes to go. Checked the score and relegation threatened Everton were down to 10 and Kane had just given Spurs the lead. Switched it on and gave it 10 minutes. Don Goodman was almost taking the piss on comms, wondering what Spurs were doing, just letting Everton have the ball. Went as far as to say he wanted to interview the manager to ask him what was going on. I turned off. Knew what was going to happen.

They are, but Arsenal bottling the league will be the biggest bottle job since Keegan's Newcastle in 1996. Fingers crossed. With how this season is going though, they'll probably beat City on Wednesday.

    8 points clear
    No cup distractions
30 match weeks top of the league
    8 games to go
2-0 up to Liverpool and draw
2-0 up to West Ham and draw
Draw at home to dead bottom of the league

Honestly, if this was Spurs, you'd be saying what?

A draw at Liverpool is always a decent result. The other 2 games, yeah disappointing but we have 2 key defenders out.

We also won 7 on the bounce before those games.

I see Spurs have sacked another manager

Also even 8 points clear, City had a game in hand on us. I don't think you can accuse a potential 90 point plus side of bottling anything. City are machines unfortunately

Arsenal are the first side to go four consecutive games winless whilst leading the Premier League since Arsenal themselves in March 2008.
