Damn. I was hoping he would leave this summer like Redknapp did in 2012. Wonder what kind of budget he will get?

    Or is it https://twitter.com/sport_simon/stat...05604802093056

(Note the article doesn't actually mention Poch's name at all but the tweet still exists)

Poch signing on again is massive. Now we just need to get Eriksen, Kane, Alderweireld, Dembele, Alli and Rose to sign new contracts and we're laughing.

Surely Alderweireld and especially Rose are gone.

    Poch signing is huge though.

Alderweireld is going almost certainly, don't think Rose is clear cut at all. He wants a bigger club and at the moment I'm not sure a bigger side than us would take a punt on him given his injuries.

Dembele looks off too. Levy must be increasing the wage budget hugely to keep Poch and tie down lines of Eriksen. 70k a week is well below par for a player of his talent

You wonder about Rose and a medical.

I would only expect Dembele and Rose to go if it suits us to let them go, both of them have plenty of time left on their contracts.

With Dembele from what I've read it seems like both sides might be happy with him going - he's happy to stay but knows he's coming to the point where he only has one big contract left, and we're happy for him to stay but are unwilling to give him a big, long-term deal when there are major question marks over his fitness. Seems like he has offers from Italy, Napoli and Juve both mentioned. Obviously if he starts kicking up a fuss to get a move everything changes, but as of right now I would expect us to look for a replacement for him, and if we find one he can go.

Rose is a different issue in that he wants to win things and is hitting his peak, but I'm not convinced a top side would want him given his recent fitness problems and lack of form when he has been fit. Especially not with the fee Levy would be demanding. Personally I wouldn't be especially worried if we lost him, certainly not like I was when Walker left (or in fact if Rose had gone last summer) - Davies has been excellent in Rose's absence, Walker-Peters has played as often on the left as the right throughout his youth career and Pochettino's record at turning full backs into stars is second to none, so I'd fancy us to get someone in who is just as good. It's a shame that we don't do business with United as I think Shaw is a move away from back being an excellent player, and he'd be a perfect replacement.

Alderweireld...think he's gone personally. As with Dembele it's seemingly not a case of him wanting to leave, he just isn't being offered the money he wants. I'd love it if we did keep him, but I think the past six months or so have shown that we can cope just fine without him and if we can get £50m for a 30-year old, arguably injury-prone centre back and replace him with a potential star like De Ligt (biggest link at the moment) I'd be well happy.

We aren't getting Bale. People need to stop being silly. He'll either get the promises he wants from Madrid or end up at United.

All this talk of players leaving doesn't worry me as much as it should, because there is still little or no word of anyone trying to buy Kane, Eriksen or Vertonghen. If one of the others leaving means those three getting the money they want to sign new deals, I'll take that.

    And Poch signing is huge.

What's interesting with Alderweireld is the £25m release clause that comes into play next summer. I feel like the only reason Spurs would be open to sell now is because eventually they'll have to let him go, and for less too. Poch could potentially gamble on him and keep him for an extra year if he feels his contribution for another season is worth it. I think his performances during the World Cup would help make that decision.
I'd bet we could end up seeing something similar to what happened to Alexis Sanchez, where Wenger decided to not sell, took the gamble, and then caved in during the winter transfer window after realising it would be better to cash in.

  16. #105516
    Simon
    Guest
Oh yeah there is no doubt whatsoever that he will either go this summer or sign a new deal, not only does the value drop massively next summer, the release fee will mean we can't stop rival PL teams from coming in. I would be stunned if we allow it to get to that stage, and I don't think it would be Pochettino's decision.

I don't think we have to worry about Daniel Levy allowing the Alexis Sanchez situation to occur.

We're about to make Diogo Dalot, a 19 year old RB from Porto our first signing. Never heard of the dude, but my extensive research watching all three of his youtube videos suggest he'll be "a quality signing for the future".

Not good, how much can fans end up paying here?

In other news, there will be a 2 week winter break in February in the PL each year from the 2019-20 season. Good thing surely?

    Yikes.

I don't have Amazon Prime and some PL footie wouldn't change that, but my wife is keen on getting it, so I may end up with it anyway.

I pay for Sky Sports, but get BT Sport on my mother in law's account. That's through the app that I run through the tele, so happy days. So BT is paid for, just not by me.

It's a six year deal, and he's doubled his wages. There's no lack of ambition here. He's just getting paid what he deserves.

We are now paying comparable wages to anywhere else (unless he becomes a proper superstar like Messi/Ronaldo/Neymar) and signing him to wages like that is a show of ambition that we want to be a team he can win big things with. If we're no closer to winning a big trophy in two or three years maybe he will go, but as of right now there's no real need for him to leave.

Eriksen and Alli in line to sign new contracts soon too, and Lloris, Vertonghen and Son. Alderweireld and Dembele going.

How are Spurs paying for this with the new stadium costs they have to bear?

He could earn big money in China, that is almost irrelevant. When Madrid came in for Bale he didnt think twice, and has won 4 Champions Leagues from it. It is a lack of ambition as he wont get that kind of success at Spurs

So would it be lack of ambition for a international class player to join Arsenal then?

You have no idea what his aspirations or ambitions are. A title at spurs as captain or similar might be the only thing he really wants

Definitely a harder sell at the moment to get top players in. I was pleasantly surprised Ozil stayed and who we brought in in Jan though.

You're talking as if Kane was in a position where had the option of leaving but then opted to sign an extension. He's not turning down the chance to move to a "bigger club". He can still leave if a transfer bid gets accepted. The contract extension doesn't change anything besides his wages, and possibly the transfer fee that would get negotiated.
None of those question the players ambition.

Of course he is. No one is going to try and buy him for a while now, certainly not this summer. If he turns down the extension every top side in European football comes sniffling.

By signing the contract, he doubles his wages right now, he gets to repay Spurs by allowing them to demand a higher transfer fee, and he can pretty much guarantee that the wages at the new club would be 200k a week at the very least. As I said, its not like Kane had an option of moving to another club right in front of him that he turned down.
What you're suggesting is that he basically give Spurs the middle finger and force his way out. Kane clearly doesn't want to do that.

Wilshere gone and Xhaka signs a new contract. I'd rather it was the other way round.

Looks like we're rebuilding the spine of the team though which I'm excited about.

What are the chances of landing some tickets to Spurs home stadium in October? I think Cardiff are in town.

Fair play Liverpool have really sorted out the weaknesses in their side. Spurs fans starting to go a bit mad now about our lack of movement, I reckon Levy's just waiting for a few of his Jewish money eggs to hatch.

Is he that good? I never saw much that impressed me when he was in the PL and the only time I've seen him since was the play off final. Fulham's tactic of trying to kick him to death suggests he's decent though.

Tottenham fanbase wankerdom just starting to kick into overdrive now due to lack of signings. Rumours going around that two of our youth team products are leaving - no word on who, but it would make sense if we included a couple (either on loan or permanent) as part of the Grealish deal. Onomah and Carter-Vickers would be my guess, seeing as Bruce gave Onomah rave reviews and you need a centre back now that Terry's gone.

There's part of me that, now we have supposed big investors steadying the ship, that would love Grealish to stay and dominate the Championship and take us up after just missing out last year. But there's a big part of me that wants him to leave and go on to be a fucking superstar.

This talk of people leaving Villa and leaving us in a shitshow is a bit overstated IMO. Our squad was stacked last year and many players didn't get a look in. We've still got a lot of quality Championship players in there:

Chester (if he stays – unlikely), Elmohamady, Hutton, Elphick, Taylor, De Laet back from long term injury
    Hourihane, Lansbury, Jedinak, Bjarnason, Adomah
    Kodjia, Hogan, Davis
And a few youth players looking good like Hepburn-Murphy and Green

Terry and Snodgrass are big losses as would be Chester and Grealish, but there's a strong team in there somewhere. Through adversity etc.

Onomah barely got a lookin when he was here last season but a permanent run in the team might see a great player come through. Questions over his attitude though.

But yes we definitely need a goalkeeper and centre back. Don't want to rely on Jedinak really.

  79. #105579

That's weird, attitude is the one thing that has consistently been spoken of as a plus for Onomah, particularly at Villa with Bruce saying he played through an injury for most of the season. He has a laid back look to him and never seems to be busting a gut but he puts in the yards in my experience (again though I didn't see him in the Championship).

According to the sources at our end the deal is close to being done, but I've seen a few things from Villa fans saying that Grealish doesn't want to leave, it's purely a case of Villa needing to sell him.

Martyn Waghorn couldn't hack it in the SPFL and is now going to Derby for £8m? He's one of the worst players I've ever seen. Is the English championship maybe totally overrated by the 'my nan...' brigade?

The symbol of English footballs decline.

He's absolutely rotten, we got peanuts for him and that was too much. Although that video of the boy slagging him outside a chippy made all the pain worthwhile.

Well he got double digits goals and assists last year so if similar figures push us over the line it will be worth it I guess. Now clearly 8 Million is a piss take but the whole fucking game has gone mad (See Danny Ward).
The bigger question is where is this money is coming from seeing as we were meant to be selling to buy this year.

Congratulations to Arsenal on their progressive attitude in playing a midget in their friendly against Atletico today.

In other Arsenal-related news - Cazorla doesn't play for almost two years at Arsenal, his contract runs down and...he's already back playing at Villarreal. What the fuck does Arsenal's medical team do, other than presumably just smash all the players' legs in with bricks every day?

Is there anyone who is liking this early closing of the window? Seems like it is putting too much pressure on the teams and nothing is happening because there isn't time to negotiate. and with no games being played no one is budging on their prices.
