I swear every goal he scores seems to be exactly the same.

No place for political symbols in football except for the ones that the tabloids told us to keep front and centre. Got you.

I liked it when he started talking about ISIS and Nazi symbols in the same breath as Pep supporting Catalan independence.

Sometimes it's as if they haven't met until a few hours before the game. Has Jose just completely lost interest in the league now that City are unstoppable? It's amazing to think of where this team would be without De Gea.

That was so undeserved. I don't know where its going wrong here. I can't fault the team selection. Can't fault the substitutions as they were all positive and showed Jose went all out for the win.
The players just dont look like they know each other. As if they don't train together and don't have anything preplanned ahead of the game. None of the passing moves looks like something they've been practised beforehand. It's like 11 players who've just gone out there for the first time, trying to figure things out as they go along.

    Some hit by Matic though.

Right now and it is early but Sanchez looks like a complete ego buy and rashford looks like he needs something to go right for him sooner than later

It's a real shame that Palace didn't get anything from the game after the effort they put in. At least Utd picked up in the second half, but they could relieve a lot of pressure on themselves by starting with a proper game plan and not being so pedestrian in the early going.

Sanchez put in one of the worst performances (from a good player) I have ever seen tonight. He was awful. All the worst parts of his latter days at Arsenal, none of the sudden brilliance.

I've tried to look for excuses to defend Pogba but I'm running out of ideas now. How did this guy get into the FIFA Team of the Year a few years ago?
It's starting to seem like he needs to play alongside two really good midfielders (not just one), before he starts to become useful to anyone. People at the start of the season were talking about how adding Matic to the team will free Pogba and let him bring his A game. Pogba actually needs another hard working midfielder in there to completely take away all of his positional and defensive responsibilities because he himself can't be trusted to do anything besides pick out passes.
I guess it makes sense how he was able to shine at Juve when he had Pirlo and Vidal alongside him.

First half Pogba gave the ball away virtually every time he tried even the most basic of passes, it was hard to watch.

So playing Fifa 17 and in Man City squad I notice a GK called Rulli with a 82 overall rating and I have never heard of him, So I google him (as you do) And the deal to sign him and send him back to his previous club is so convoluted

    https://www.mcfcwatch.com/2016/07/20...eronimo-rulli/

Frankly I didn't know part ownership of players was a thing in England, Shows my ignorance I guess.

Moyes and Pardew fighting tooth and nail for the shittest manager of the decade award. Moyes going for 2 relegations in a row, Pards trying to get 2 teams relegated in one season.

Stwards are generally shit from personal experience. They either over-police minor shit or miss the real shit that's going on. I once hung my jacket over a banner at my local club and the stewards were like "Oh no you can't do that, it covers up the advertising!" Like part of a jacket hanging over is going to make people miss a big long banner that says Scottish and Southern Energy.

Well he averages 10 goals every ninety minutes for England so it seems foolish not to. Franny Jeffers averages two goals every ninety minutes as well - that's eleven goals more or less guaranteed, every game.

When I worked in Birmingham a couple of years ago I was sat next to the department who looked after the pensions for the PFA, all pro footballer pensions basically. They used to have an irate Francis Jeffers calling up on a daily basis. Not exactly sure what the problem was.

Eric Djemba-Djemba also used to phone up in tears absolutely desperate for his pension savings. Footballers used to be able to claim their pension benefits at 35 but it's changed to 55 now. Poor Eric.

Jeffers will have fucked his wages, he was a massive gambler wasn't he?

Much less interesting story but I work with Brighton left back Markus Suttner's wife. She is nice. Told you it wasn't interesting.

    That does ring a bell.

I suspect he wanted to transfer to a dodgy scheme to get early access to the funds and was denied.

Crazy how people who have earned so much can still get into financial difficulty. Gambling will do it.

I used to think that, but I suppose they live within their means like the rest of us, paying a mortgage just like us but on a much more expensive house - if that money is no longer coming in and the house isn't paid off, they're fucked just like we would be. The sensible thing to do would be to buy a smaller house outright, but that's not how young people think, let alone high-profile, competitive, ego-driven and occasionally not all that intelligent footballers.

It's why I can understand footballers who get upset about "only" being paid 100k a week or whatever - they're still keeping up with the Jones', just at a much higher level, and if all your mates have got million-pound cars and yours is only worth 700k, you're going to want that pay rise. They don't live in the same world as us, so it's unreasonable to think that they would have the same frames of reference when it comes to money.

Sure people will often spend whatever they earn, sometimes to extremes. We are all essentially trained to be materialistic from a young age. But it is often things like gambling and drugs/alcohol that results in people spending what they don't have and that's what causes real financial hardship.

Gambling is the killer. It would be far quicker to gamble away a million pounds than to drink it away, and far less fun.

And on that note I'm looking forward to seeing my accumulator come in later while necking a few cans and smoking a fat doobie.

    Excellent.

I've genuinely quite enjoyed watching MLS whenever I've had it on.

I'm biased but MLS is one of the most entertaining leagues in the world.

Astonishing decision not to give a penalty for that foul on Aguero. That might actually be the worst decision of all time.

Herrera is such a Mourinho player. Absolute shitbag.

'Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, 25, says winning the Champions League is more important to him than finishing as the Premier League's top scorer and claiming the Golden Boot. (Guardian)'

    Top notch journalism there.

I find it interesting and noticeable that at no point in the statement does UEFA say the Michael Oliver made the correct call in awarding the penalty or giving the red card. Seems like that would have been a super easy sentence to include to help squash the controversy.

Whether the call was correct or not though is somewhat irrelevant. That abuse wouldn't be justified if it had been a bad call.

Agree the quality of the call doesn't justify the abuse.

I have just been looking for some referees/professional organizations to back up Oliver and have been surprised by the lack I can find. Then I saw that and it was another place where no one in charge says "Michael Oliver made the correct call." It seems odd that no one will say that from UEFA. IMO that should have been first on the list to kill the controversy.

I know 'attempted Slingblade' isn't specified in the laws of the game as a foul, but I'm willing to give Oliver the benefit of the doubt in his decision making.

It was a really obvious foul. Juventus have done an excellent job in kicking up such a fuss that it seems like a controversial decision. Clear penalty, Oliver's only mistake was not sending Benatia off too, as it was deliberate. Buffon should get a lengthy ban covering whatever he does next (assuming he stays in football).
