I haven't read the spoilers because I want, if nothing else, to be surprised with the final episodes. Even if I don't enjoy them.

Also, that kid falling on the treadmill has become a poetic summary of Dexter.

I just finished episode 10 and I really don't think it is horrible TV. True it is not as good as the first couple seasons and it has become pretty predictable, but it is still better than some of the god awful stuff that makes its way onto television. I love the Dexter series and I will be sad when it isn't in my regular TV viewing anymore.

Season 8 has been rock solid all the way through IMO. I've enjoyed pretty much every episode and always look forward to more.

It probably helps that he's had more people in his inner circle this season than any other. I know that's been a complaint for others that Ive seen elsewhere, but I really have no problem with it. Hopefully the final 2 produce a strong outing.

Seasons 5 through most of 7 were the abyss of this show. Really.

Especially Season 6. I couldn't wait for 6 to end.

Even though I said I've enjoyed Season 8 thus far.

This rewrite is also quite good if not potentially better than what we might get IMO.

I can't wait for the last 2 episodes. It's hard to believe this series is coming to a end.

So, the beer cooler thing for episode 11 spoilers was accurate.

    Hospital (sanitarium) scene was right.

    Funeral was right.

He says Astor can have his car but she wasn't there. News report was truth.

Deb said freeze motherfucker instead of surprise but it was still accurate.

Did anyone catch what Deb says to Quinn in the ambulance in the preview for next week? So ridiculous sound mixing in that teaser as I couldn't make her out at all.

This episode came off a lot better than I had envisioned based on those spoilers...

Nice rebound from last weeks pile of shit episode.

I really think they might take 3 or 4 years off and have a real final season. I truly think Showtime wants to keep Dexter in their back pocket and won't take the plunge on truly ending Dexter. At least not yet.

Yeah I agree. Showtime teased "The End" but really hasn't yet delivered a route to a definite end. Unless Dexter dies in the last show but theres no money in that. Everyone wants to see him caught red handed.

It'll come back eventually. I'd put money on it.

No, you're dumb for thinking it's going to come back. Breaking Bad isn't coming back, The Wire didn't come back, Friday Night Lights didn't come back, The Shield didn't come back, The Sopranos didn't come back. Dexter is not coming back. When it's done, it's done.

Shows don't come back 3 years after they're canceled. Non-Animated shows anyway.

These are actors with careers, they move on.

    Your idea is stupid.

I've just been looking for an excuse to use that gif.

The actors move on I agree. Micheal C. Hall is great but I don't see him setting Hollywood on fire. It is completely possible that a few years down the road Showtime could be looking to fill a void in their schedule and they could do a another season if the price is right. I would like a definative end now and wouldn't personally care to see a revival.

I just said this could be a reason for Showtime sort of avoiding the Dexter is caught scenario. Never said it was my personal idea.

Stupid too? I think your a butthead. How is that for immature?

If anyone was gonna call me a bitch, I'm glad it was the best in the world! I love the seriousness on Punk's face. It is great.

Dexter getting caught would've been too obvious given what they've done. Yeah, its the one thing they had in their back pocket and who knows, we could get something in the final episode. However whatever they do in relation to him being caught will probably feel like a rush job. If they actually go that route, which I don't think they will, given the score board.

Him getting away but losing someone in the process due to his indecisiveness seems like the likely ending point.

Even though from the video I posted before. Faking his own death, only to reveal him alive and well elsewhere with Deb and family, would be another way to go.

Look at the GIF again. Try to understand the true meaning of the text and what is being said. There is a lesson to be learned in there. It's crazy and pretty difficult to comprehend, I know, but it has a satisfying conclusion if you put your mind to it. Really. Give it a shot.

Jeez drawing the heat all because I said Showtime might not be completely done with Dexter. Showtime has execs that like money. Dexter makes money. Is it a stretch to think that they might like it to be around longer even if Micheal C. Hall doesn't.

The name calling, while entertaining, is over kill. Being called dumb or a bitch or implying I'm stupid doesn't really phase me at this point in my life, especially being called one from a behind keyboard.

Yes I understand and no I didn't drop out. I was going with the joke continuing to poke fun at myself. Like I said am I supposed to dwell on some loser picking on my grammar from behind a anonymous keyboard? I do not care for tiny details when I am typing. I have about 100 other things going on so excuse me if i'm not 100% correct teacher.

No need to go all internet tough guy.

All I was saying was your idea of them bringing back Dexter is dumb, is never going to happen, and if you bet your life savings on it you will end up on the street begging for change.

    I already beg for change.

It wasn't my idea. I just said it was a possible scenario running around in greedy execs brains that they could take a break and come back in the future if they don't do anything too permanent to the main character.

I already said I disagree with that move and would have perferred a more permanent ending to the show.

    Tonight's the night.

I don't know how I feel about this. I know the last few seasons have been pretty ordinary. But I will definitely miss show being a part of my weekly cycle of shows.

    That was terrible.

The flashback scenes were the only redeeming thing about the whole episode.

The last 2 mins should have been cut. Just made it more terrible.

Yeah, this show is better off as just seasons 1 - 4. After the Trinity season, it just slowly goes downhill.

Terrible ending though. Could have at least had him ready to strike down on someone with his axe.

With an average runtime of 45 to 60 minutes and 96 episodes I reckon I wasted anywhere from 72 to 96 hours on Dexter. I'd like to see for that time back.

I thought that ending was quite serviceable with plenty of false swerves and finishes.

My only real gripe is the end game/theme of the story which is something I always feared they would do.

No matter who you kill, you shouldn't kill.

    They went out preaching.

That said. I will miss this show. I really liked the dynamic between Dexter and Deb. I'd admit, the side characters on the show never really grew on me as much as I hoped they would though. Which I felt, was always one of biggest weaknesses Season 1 to Season 8.

To be honest. Dexter as its worst is better than plenty of shit on TV today, especially anything reality TV or cop/detective based. Plenty of shit on TV today feels like its interchangeable with everything else. Dexter never, ever felt that way, even at its worst with Season 6 IMO.

I agree that it shouldn't end in him getting caught or killed, but I think they could have made his getaway a lot better. IMO, we're all wondering "how is he gonna get caught?!" so why not end it with us believing "oh shit, he's really gonna get caught!"

Why not build the second half of the season around Angel, Joey, and Masuka finally pinning evidence on Dex? This way, Angel is pissed off as hell since he and Laguerta had a thing. Joey was already suspicious in previous seasons about Dex so he'd be ready to go after him. And seeing Masuka's reaction would have been interesting as well since he and Dex work side by side. After that, you throw Deb into the mix of all of this and you have even more chaos going down. Have Joey figure out what Deb is hiding and now he's torn between love and justice; Deb or Angel. Same with Masuka-- friendship or justice?

Yeah, not saying my way is perfect but it's the type of thing I would've liked to see.

This article pretty much sums up my thoughts:

    http://www.avclub.com/articles/remem...nsters,102659/

    Especially quotes like this:

Again, “Remember The Monsters” wasn’t going to be good. But it did have a shot at not being an affront to the suckers who spent 96 hours watching Dexter. That’s four entire days. Think of the books you could have read. The hobbies you could have cultivated. The trees you could have planted in blighted neighborhoods.
    And this:

It’s a feat for a finale to make you regret having watched a single moment of the series, but “Remember The Monsters” made it look easy. The first and second seasons of Dexter were enjoyable, sure, but they also lined up the first dominoes in a chain of contrivances that allowed Dexter to skirt apprehension and win new allies rather than be made to deal with the consequences of his actions. There was a time when I’d have recommended those seasons, but now I couldn’t even do that in good conscience, knowing they could be the gateway drug to subsequent seasons.

Just done a Dexter marathon with the Misses whilst on holiday and in retrospect (its a wonderful thing) the final series would've been brilliant if they'd have gone with the season 2 storyline of the Bay Harbour Butcher. Season 4 remains the best for me, but season 2 is a close second; And if they'd have been able to hold out doing that story until the final season, it would have been awesome. Some of those episodes and scenes where Dex is nearly caught where great. The stand-out one for me was the scene where they find his slides in Doakes car and bring Dexter in. It's so well done. The final season should have concentrated around him nearly getting caught I feel. Season 2 encapsulated it perfectly.

Shame it ended how it did.

so the network prevented the writers from killing dexter in what will likely eventually lead to a return of the show/character down the line. considering how flip-floppy and vague they were regarding the eighth season being the last, almost right up to when it was set to premiere, it's not surprising. they want to milk this character for all it's worth.

I've just watched the finale. (Spoilers below).

I understand the intent of it, and there's something quite chilling about that final moment of Dexter in exile and knowing that's what it all has come to. But it was so poorly executed.

They spent a significant portion of this season on the dramatic realisation that because of the potential for a life with Hannah and Harrison, Dexter doesn't need to kill any more thus alleviating the "risk" that he poses to those he loves. Only for him to decide to exile himself anyway? I mean I can understand that Deb's death has had a drastic impact and so it should. But logic dictates that now that he's done with killing, the risk is gone.

They seem to have hedged their bets with this one and it didn't quite work. But, that's what we've come to expect from this show ever since they took a convenient way out of the brilliant conundrum they set up for themselves in Season 2. The show's never quite recovered from that.

I think it all went downhill after season 4. As I understand it that's when the original showrunner left and the team that was ultimately responsible for the finale took over. I mean, wasn't the point of Rita's death to show that Dexter's actions have an effect on those around him? And then we repeat it again 4 seasons later.

Basically it was a complete miscarriage of a finale. Atrocious in every way. I like to pretend the show ended on season 7 with Deb and Dexter holding hands walking back to the NYE party.

The original showrunners idea that the past 8 seasons would have been Dexters life flashing before his eyes before receiving his death row punishment was far worse then what actually happened.

    Season 4 is ridiculously overrated.

It was just okay other than a brilliant performance from lithgow and a great ending.

Michael C. Hall knows you hated the ending of Dexter.

The 43-year-old actor, best known for playing vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan on the Showtime series, isn’t even sure he liked the ending himself.

“Liked it? I don’t think I even watched it,” he says of the finale, which aired last September. The once-gripping saga of the nerdy blood spatter analyst (spoiler alert) ended on a flabbergasting note, with the death of Dexter’s adoptive sister Debra; his self-exile from his kids, his job, and Miami; and his transition into a new career as…a lumberjack. Hall chooses his words carefully when discussing his feelings about that last episode. “I thought it was narratively satisfying—but it was not so savory.”

“I think the show had lost a certain amount of torque,” he says. “Just inherently because of how long we’d done it, because of the storytelling capital we’d spent, because our writers may have been gassed. Maybe some people wanted a more satisfying—maybe they wanted a happy ending for him, either a happy ending or a more definitive sense of closure. They wanted him to die or something, but I think the fact that he’s sort of exiled in a prison of his own making is, for my money, pretty fitting.”

Yeah, he pretty much hasn't said yes or no, one way or another about the spinoff Showtime wants to do with Dexter being the central character again.

    http://www.today.com/entertainment/m...alk-2D79433446

Not sure what they could do with the spinoff with Lumberjack Dexter in Oregon or Canada. I mean the story sort of writes itself, but that's the problem, we've seen it before.

    1. Set in Oregon/Canada
    2. He's a Lumberjack by day, killer by night
    3. Cue flashbacks of his days in Miami (Deb, Miami Metro, etc)
    4. Ghost Harry returns, unless I guess they bring back Deb as the ghost to haunt him now
    5. Blah Blah filler shit
    6. They either go with his past being dug up by someone completely made up and put him on the run or they kill him in the end or both. The only reason to do a spinoff with Dexter being the lead again would be to do something that hasn't been done. It would be completely pointless to do it if they were to tread down the same path twice.

Having started to watch the show again in a weird order. I watched Seasons 7 and 8 in order followed by 1,2,3,4,5,6. You can really see how the quality jumps a lot. I'm enjoying Season 3 a lot more now with a second viewing. I know many think its the weakest of the first 4 seasons of the show, but im enjoying it more now.

Still, I'd rank em like this...

2 - Doakes and Dex was such a good show IMO
1 - The best written and most creepy of the seasons
    4 - Trinity
3 - Enjoying it more now, especially Jimmy Smits and his intensity
7 - Definitely the strongest season of the second half seasons, really good stuff with Deb/Dex and Isaak Sirko, whom they should've done more with

    Steep drop

5 - Filler villain 1, just the whole premise of the big bad of Season 5 seemed silly, with the way it was executed, they should've been caught much sooner
8 - A 2nd viewing of the season makes you realize the Hannah stuff should've been handled way better as its easily the biggest crap of the season besides the mixed bag ending. Either Hannah never comes back after Season 7 or they needed something much stronger.

6 - the definition of total filler, you can literally skip the entire season and watch the finale to know what happened in the season

More rumors that Dex will be returning to Showtime...

    http://www.starpulse.com/news/index....time-rumors-th

I'd be interested if only two scenarios...

    1. Limited 3 Season series following Lumberjack Dex around Canada, with Deb replacing Harry as the ghost who haunts Dex, with a definitive ending.

    2. A limited Season 9 that retcons the events of Season 8, where Dex wakes up like Season 8 was a bad dream. It might feel extremely silly and not worth it, but if they wanted to pretend that season never happened, that would be easy out.

Either way, it sounds like Showtime reallys wants to defib this series. It's just a question of whether Michael would really come back. Given he hated the finale, he'd probably have to be assured of a better ending. I'd definitely want Jen back as Deb. I know many were love/hate on Deb, I just think she was the only other character on the show worth a damn. Bring her back as a ghost for Dex, or retcon her death, along with Season 8.

Well at the very least we can get a proper series finale so that's good.

Also if it does well it won't be limited for long, that's how these things always are.

Dam, Bert was being a bit stiff with me in this thread. I had a good chuckle scrolling up.

I guess this means I was right though. I knew Dexter's Dark Passenger would return. I am beyond excited for this. I just watched season 1 with my daughter and are half way through 2.

Any guesses as to what's going to happen? You think Deb makes a return and plays a Harry type role? I could see it as maybe a one time thing but not a regular role but who knows? Not sure how their relationship is after they divorced or if she'd be interested.

Pumped. Just texted my sister, who introduced me to Dexter. She's more psyched than I am.

Same. My bad. I guess you were right. It did used to be a really uncommon thing before Fuller House started the trend.

i heard about this and was like 'oh jesus.' seeing that it's the original showrunner from the first four seasons got me excited, though. i fell off really hard at the end. first four seasons were fantastic, season 5 was a bore and when the SPECIAL GUEST STAR FOR THE SEASON thing really started to wear on me, cause you knew they were either getting killed or going away by seasons end. season 6 was terrible, season 7 was an improvement with ray stevenson being brilliant, and then i watched the first few episodes of the final season and just didnt really care anymore, and then heard about how ridiculous it was getting and didnt bother. still havent gone back to finish it, though i've had an itch to rewatch the series. guess this makes sense.

Very true. I don't know many people who wanted more Kimmy Gibbler though. Dam Netflix wasting money on that horseshit.

Yeah at the time of the original run Hall was pretty done with the show, if I remember correctly, so I can see how people would think it is over.

I'm just glad it can be wrapped up better. Another good chuckle above was me trying to be enthusiastic about the last season but it was pretty runny shit. I haven't watched the last couple seasons in years. I usually end up watching seasons 1-4 if I turn it on but am going to do a whole rewatch with this news.

Yeah thanks John Lithgow for starting that guest star shit. He was beyond awesome but nobody could follow him in my opinion.

Of course the best line of the series goes to Lila in season 2. Her line "Pardon my tits" to Deb while covering them and acting all prim and proper still cracks me up.

jimmy smits started it with season 3. loved that character and part of the reason i think season 3 is the weakest of the first four seasons is cause things got rushed at the end since they couldnt carry the miguel prado character into the next season. lithgow was perfect and they managed to make that single season story feel really satisfying. turning dexter's kill of the trinity killer completely on it's head and making it a deeply emotional jumping point for future character development was fantastic, that they quickly squandered a season later.

Yes how could I forget Smits? I always just go right to Lithgow when I think Dexter guest stars but Smits was dam good. I haven't watched in a bit, that's why I started with my daughter because she hadn't seen them yet and season 1 is great TV.

I remember when they killed Rita off all I could think of was how long I had to wait to see the follow up. It was such a great season. When Lithgow's finally finds Dexter at the Police station and says "Hello, Dexter Morgan", letting Dex know shit just got real, is still one of my favorite scenes. Trinity's daughter reveal caught me off guard and when Rita's murder happened it just made for such a great story.

Next season starts and, yeah, opportunity squandered. I don't know what I wanted but it wasn't what I got. I don't know if the next season could live up to the anticipation that my sister and I shared. I remember we had tons of ideas of where the show might go but neither of us even come close to the gang rapes and revenge plot that unfolded.

Hell, they could pick up from the end of this season and I'd be fine with it. I'm just pumped for this good news. Just stinks this is probably like 2 years away at least? I thought the wait after Rita's murder was long. I guess I'll have to shell out some cash for that Showtime app when the time comes.

At the time I felt the ending was bad to go along with a bad final season. The final season is still bad, but I think the ending works as a non crowd pleaser really. Not a happy ever after ending, but not a total downer either.

I feel like whatever ending is used in this revival will just be some sort of defining crowd pleaser that's really only has 3 outcomes.

We will have to wait and see I guess. I feel like there has to be a good enough story or why bother doing it. Since it was the writer involved in seasons 1-4 you'd think he must have something up his sleeve.

I'm just waiting to see Lumberjack Dexter bludgeon somebody with a piece of tree.

You think something happens to his son and that brings him out of hiding?

I need a serious refresher on seasons 5 and up.

I think so. Maybe even a angel/devil dynamic with Deb and Harry both talking over Dexter's shoulders.

Yes, there are interesting allegories in the show. In general, I really like this series, one of the best at the moment. Although there are a number of TV shows that I like.

Which others are you a fan of?

I am excited to see this back. I haven't finished my original watch of this because I'm dreading the ending that I know was panned in a big way, but I feel like they have a chance to right some wrongs here.

Yeah saw this today and thought well shit there goes that thought about Harry and Deb. I think it would have been interesting.

It'll be different without Harry being in Dexter's ear but that must at least up the chances that Deb will be that person now.

Who knows though. I am sorta liking the idea of Dexter in a totally different setting though.

I feel like watching it now knowing it's not the end might lessen the blow a bit. Maybe not though. I did a rewatch this past January and got to like Episode 2 in Season 6 and gave up.

I am curious if they'll end it with a one season arc or if Showtime will try to squeeze a couple seasons out of this. You'd think Dexter gets caught or whatever name he'll be going as. Eventually you'd think the law would piece his story together and he'd end up back in Miami some how. At the very least
would go to where Dexter is to see for himself that Dexter is alive. If no one from the original run is back this time around then it makes you wonder if Showtime has more plans for Dexter.

I wonder if they'll change the opening. It's so perfectly creepy. I don't know if they could match it.

Put a spoiler in there after because you said you were still watching and don't want to spoil anyone that could have survived. I wasn't thinking when I was typing my what ifs.

Started rewatching, on season 1 and my wife's watching it with me for her first time. She hates Deb and finds the swearing forced. I told her she should get used to it because that's her character the whole show. I forgot how funny Doakes is. Busted out laughing when he calls Dexter a creepy mothefucker to his face.

She's going to get a ear full.

I watched season 1 like a year ago but was thinking these are due before November.

Doakes was one of my favorites. Sad to see him go.

I forgot to mention it's all on Amazon Prime if anyone else is wanting to re-watch or watch for the first time.

Up to season 4 on the re-watch. I told my wife this is the last good season. I don't think I'll pay much attention after this one. She asked me if Rita is around the whole time and I was like uhh and then she asked me if they get divorced or something and I changed the subject.

Ha, you should have sold her on Rita being there until the end so the end of season 4 hits her even harder.

I think S5 is OK but not nearly near the level of the seasons that came before it. I still think Deb should have found Dexter at the end of S5 instead of S6. That whole S6 was just built around getting back to where they were at the end of S5. It just seemed to me like that was the first misstep and many more followed.

After this last preview I'm wondering if that really is Harrison or if it's just some murdering, serial killer fanboy who figured Dexter out somehow.

I was just reading they changed showrunners after season 4 and the showrunner for seasons 1-4 is back for this new mini series. Maybe that's why the show sucked after season 4. It gives me hope for this mini series.

Shit yeah Bert. Phillips seems to be the one that got Hall on board and has been spearheading this new series since the start. Really hoping he can put a exclamation point on Dexter as a whole.

I got through to about half way through S6 and stopped watching a few months back. It was recent enough I think I'm good. S1 is really great however.

Michael C Hall said to watch the following

    Dexter (Season 1, episode 1)
"When I got the pilot script, my first thought was, 'wow, is this gonna work? A show about a serial killer?' And when I would tell people what I was up to, they would kind of say, 'oh, good luck with that.' I thought the show would maybe attract a niche audience. That it was as broadly popular or appealing as it was, was a bit of a surprise. It allowed me to keep going to work and telling stories that I felt like were worth telling."

Seeing Red (Season 1, Episode 10)
"Dexter makes a fundamental discovery about his origins and if nothing else, I love it because I got to do this really fun face plant into a room full of blood."

Go Your Own Way (Season 3, Episode 10)
"I really loved the episode in season 3 where Dexter and Miguel Prada, played by Jimmy Smits, end up having a face off on the roof of a building downtown and Jimmy Smits does this amazing thing where he...makes this gesture while he's yelling at Dexter that always really stuck in my mind."

The Getaway (Season 4, Episode 12)
"And then I would have to say the finale of Season 4. If you haven't seen the show yet, I won't say anything more than that. And again, I recommend that you watch all the episodes leading up to that, but you'll see what I mean.

    We finished watching it.

Season 5 is the worst season. Season 6 is slightly better. Season 7 is ok. The last season is terrible with the worst ending of any TV show I can remember. 1-4 are all good. 4 is the peak.

I'm hopeful for this mini series next month. Anything is better than how it ended before. I love that Deb is the new Harry. I'm skeptical the kid really is Harrison.

I thought it was a good first episode. I'm surprised by the lack of twist, they're playing it as if that really is Harrison. I'm interested how he learned that Dexter Morgan from Miami was actually Jim Lindsay from New York and where the hell is Hannah?

Yeah you think Dexter would be just a bit more inquisitive with Harrison's arrival. How's he going to explain him to his new lady as well? I don't feel like he would tell her he had a child at one point.

    Deb was excellent.

I'm definitely looking forward to this unfolding.
