i'm loving this season quite a bit, but i think i'd place it fourth in the rankings of seasons. seasons four, two and one are just brilliant, and this season is a return to form. seasons five and six are almost worth it just to hear/see deb find out about dexter's antics during the times they took place. they've hit every season besides the third, so i'm kinda hoping miguel prado gets a mention. would hate if the stupid skinner is the morsel we get for that season.

Agreed. I thought last episode was just really really solid. It was nice to see Astrid and Cody again. Deb getting high with her was a bit strange, but given her emotional breakdown I can understand why. Really blew Dexter's mind when she said she was in love with him. i don't know why people thought issak and victor were father and son, besides the fact that the story of revenge that issak related to dexter during the jail meet was that of a son avenging his father. they looked much too close in age to be father and son. the moment issak went to his apartment and gently caressed the hidden picture while tearing up i totally thought they were eventually going to reveal they were lovers.
Looking back on it now I would say I should have caught it due to the sheer fact of there being no reason to hide a father/son relationship in their organization. Obviously there could be a reason written but it more than likely wouod have been a stretch. However, I think victor could easily be mid 40's while the other guy could be early 20's so I don't think age would have played an importance there.

But yeah, I totally called them being lovers from that scene Morrison mentioned. I don't see how others missed it.
I thought it was pretty obvious that Issak and Victor were lovers also apart from the scene in the apartment there was the scene at the strip club where he said to Dexter he wasn't interested in anything there.
So who is going to get killed off before the end of the season from team good guys? At the start of the season I thought it would be Deb in some tragic way. Then I fell back on my go to "Quinn is finally going to be offed" theory. But now LaGuerta knows too much and maybe a swerve will happen and the innocent, retired, Batista will get it.
I dunno about the good guy fodder this season but the end game in season 8 should be interesting and I can see two obvious possibilities, both of which could make fans restless.
1. Dexter escapes with no repercussions and everyone calls bullshit
2. Dexter dies a soapy sap typical tv type ending which everyone calls bullshit
The only 3 scenarios I would want to see happen...
1. Dexter escapes and the pin goes on a dead Deb due to some other circumstance
2. Dexter escapes Miami Metro but Issac kills him..this could very well be the best....I mean cmon...how many people fuck with the Mafia and get away with it? Plus Issac would be the first 2 season villain in show history. In this scenario Deb survives but no longer backs Dexter
3. Wait for it....
Dexter wakes up in bed with Rita, his whole serial killer persona was all a dream..the ultimate troll of sorts by the writers.

so if this past episode had been the season finale, it would've been great. with that said, we have three more episodes left, and the main antagonist has been taken care of. very awesome end for issak, and i will miss him very much. he was a really wonderful 'villain' and foil for dexter, and something out of the wheelhouse of most of dexter 'big bads.'
though with that said, with three episodes left to go, they introduce this 'phantom' arsonist, with all signs pointing to it being the arson investigator. clearly this is going to factor into the finale in some way, but it will likely feel rushed given how much time was spent on issak and how late they decided to open up a new killer.

he kept saying he would take care of it, and he also practically said he doesn't think laguerta is smart enough to figure him out, since lundy was never onto him. they're not insulting the viewers, they're purposefully making dexter underestimate laguerta, because THAT is how she'll figure him out. THAT is the point, that he's allowing himself to be distracted. beyond that, as far as deb knows, laguerta has cooled it with the investigation. but that's not the case.
I lost count of how many times this season Dex has said "I'll take care of it".
Spinning too many plates is our Dex; they're all gonna come crashing down...
There's still one season to come, will the rest of the season focus on the phantom/fire dude, and next season Laguerta will suss it all out ?
I think the season will end with Deb about to be put in cuffs. She already let Dexter get away (church), let him kill for her (the date rape, fun house guy), and asked him to kill someone (blonde flower chick). I think the next step is for her to help him kill. That's when she'll leave something behind that Laguerrta picks up on, and busts her with.
I get the sense that poor ol Dex will be getting caught before its all said and done.
The writers/creators of the show aren't going to want to send a message that killing is fine and you can get away with it.
That said, I hope Dex gets rid of Laguerta whose been a bitch for the better part of...ummm...her entire existence on the show.
That or set her up to take some sort of big fall.
On a side note, Quinn is a big retard and im not sure whose going to make it out of the season between Deb and Hannah.
It'd be a great twist if Matthews helps Dex setup Laguerta to take the fall because he was good friends with Harry but somehow I doubt it would happen.

I think thats what will happen. When Laguerta showed Matthews the list of suspects he said something along the lines of "what he knew about some of the names on that list would shock her"
I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed he and Harry shared the same sentiments towards getting justice and he's known all along what Dexter has been doing as Harry confided in him what he was doing with Dexter.

If Hannah didn't do it the only other conclusion would be the water bottle itself. If Deb kept that same water bottle in the car and only used it to take the pills it would be slightly possible enough chemical from the pill dissolved and went into the backwash of the bottle. Season 7 has been the best season since 4 IMO.
All the side characters except for dumb fuck Quinn and his stripper were all interesting.
Was very tense and Dexter was never as close to being 'caught' as he was in THAT finale.

I think Hannah will kill Dexter.
Dexter will have it all cleaned up more than likely. I am sure it will be made to look as though she had gone bat shit crazy and had Hector and Dexter there to frame him or something along those lines.
However, along with the warrants that are already in motion (judge won't forget he signed them) and Maria either disappearing or being framed stuff will start to add up.
I am going to go ahead and say it will be Batista who puts it all together. His feelings for Maria will drive him back out of retirement and into the investigation.
Hannah could end up ultimately being the fall girl.
I thought it was really a poor season. Really contrived at so many parts. Horrendously desperate inclusion of a strip club to up the nipple count this year.
Isaac actually did very little aside from an unsatisfactory ending to the lewis story that had been building for a while.
Dexter has let two people who knew what he was go to prison. TWO. That's ridiculous.
The airport killing was mental as well in just how sloppy it was. Dexter himself is sloppy now as anything taking people in broad daylight in a park.
It feels like the writing team has changed up massively there's been such a dramatic shift in attention to detail
One other small thing you know the splash page with latest posts, spoliers are shown in plain text there so Gary j's post was there for all to see yesterday and it got me. He clearly tagged his post properly but that splash page obviously takes all 'encoding' out of them or whatever
I'm not sure how I compare this season to others. It as definitely a different theme this year though. All of the other seasons had Dexter going after killers who fit into his code, but this season he seemed to actually kill the code itself.
Next season is supposed to be the last. I think they will do a good job in wrapping it up.

They didn't return to Batista's party that we were shown. They were outside at a street festival.
Also, Deb's dress had no blood on it what so ever. You could see blood on La Gaguerta's shoulder and she would obviously have it coming from her wound. Deb was squeezing her and would have gotten blood all over the dress. There was none shown on her period. There is also no real time line given as the last thing even close to being mentioned was Masuka saying it was almost time before he was going to go get dressed as baby new year.

I swore I saw a commercial advertising this as being the last season of Dexter which I was fine with. This season really lost me, I was intrigued at the beginning but was definitely over it by the middle point of the season and ready for it to be done.
I really liked it.
And me.
i really enjoyed this past season. with that said, it's not anywhere close to being on the level of the first, second and fourth seasons in terms of cohesive and intelligent writing, but compared to what we've had the last two seasons, it was a great step in the right direction, and makes me feel confident the show can go out with a sizable bang instead of a whimper.

This season seems like it will be decent. Love the Cereal Killer angle thus far. Seems like a good match for Dexter!! And Evelyn Vogel is going to be interesting.....excited to see how that will play out.

Though I must say. There are two things that really bother me about the show, and im not sure if it comes down to intention or laziness.
1. In first handful of seasons. They made Dexter out to be this mastermind who never made mistakes, was always careful in every move he made. They obviously made him way to sell you on the plausibility of the shows concept. Then when we get to the last handful of seasons, again I dunno if its lazy writing or done intentionally, but it seems like they go out of there way to make Dexter make incredibly stupid/irrational decisions for the sake of allowing other things to happen/be believable. I suppose its passed off as character development, making him more vulnerable/human but some of it comes off completely ridiculous.

Very good season opener. Sets up lots of intrigue for the last season.
I think I would have liked SOME follow on from last season's ending though; and hopefully we get flashbacks, as I think there could have been a lot of powerful scenes and interesting conversations to be had.
I like that Batista is no longer "three days from retirement" and is thus less likely to die a death.
Masuka is still a great character. I will not miss Laguerta.
Deborah, while in some melodramatic scenes and shit story arcs, is acted brilliantly.
One question though, does Dexter have too many feelings to be a true psycho?
Dexter snapping at Harrison and then getting scared when he couldn't find him plays against him being a psychopath though, no?

Coked up Deb in her short shorts was hot. I had never found her even remotely attractive before last night.

So what does everybody think of the season so far?
I think it's progressing nicely. I wasn't sold on Vogel or the direction Deb was going early in the season, but I've come around. Yesterday's episode was my favorite so far this season. My only complaint really is the Quinn/Jamie/Angel stuff.
I like Vogel as a character but I don't really give a damn about the whoever is stalking her. I'm somewhat beyond seasonal serial killers in the show. So right now I'm just waiting for that guy to get killed so that Vogel can turn heel on Dexter.

I've always been a fan of looking at Carpenter but her acting has bothered me off and on through the entire series. She is absolutely blowing me away this season, probably my favorite part of the show is her interaction with dexter now. Maybe it's that they were married and divorced and that's in my head or perhaps she's channeling some sort of rage from it i'm not sure. Regardless I'm really enjoying this season so far.
Talking about how it seems like dexter was super careful and perfect in the beginning and now he is sloppy could be explained by the fact that he was by himself in the beginning. You could also make an argument that he's losing his sociopath tendancies and becoming a real person and as a result is and has been making progressively more mistakes.
It's probably just sloppy writing though

Like in the last series he kept saying "I'll fix this" or whatever and ended up being sloppy because he was spinning so many plates. This will be the demise of him.

Also, small note but Dexter's phone actually has a GUI now! I mean it's just an iPhone but that's better than the blue screen shit they used to use.
I've been saying this forever. I understand that any level of police or government with a BYOD policy would probably have SOME security measures in place on a company phone, but nothing that would alter the GUI to look like that white-on-blue shit. I mean Apple's iOS is notoriously hard to alter and doesn't have anything like BlackBerry's IT policies that I'm aware of, and even those don't alter the GUI. That's one little thing that always annoyed me about this show. Petty, I know, but still.
After last nights episode I'm finally invested in this season.....Everything up till this point has been mediocre IMO.
Is anybody else not sure that Zack McDickbag actually killed the neighbor? It feels too obvious and easy, but taking the obvious and easy route hasn't exactly been rare over the later seasons either.

Why it couldn't have been this way for the two seasons prior is beyond me. Season 6 and to a lesser extent 5 were the fucking definition of filler, and Season 7 was at times, boring.

I think either Vogul's son who is the guy that was dating Cassie could be a surprise twist ala season 4 with the Trinity killer and his daughter reporter that Quinn was messing around with was revealed. That is why he played dumb when Quinn showed him that pic of Zack. He knew he was gonna kill Zack for mommy later. Vogul's ex husband was my other thought. Her past has been mentioned a couple times and not explored into detail because they are saving the reveal for the end. Vogul even said to Deb when she found out about Hannah and Dexter that 2 phychopaths do not make a good combination. Vogul is obviously nuts and I'm betting she married a crazy man too. So she knows from experience that its a bad combo. Does anyone else find it funny that Quinn knows Dexter is a killer and Dexter knows Quinn knows but they both just ignore it. Even when they were sitting in that car together or when they talk about Zack it never comes up.

Another thought on the whole Ex husband thing. What if Capt. Matthews is her ex and has been in the know about Dexter this whole time. He is the one that brought her back to Miami. That is why he tried to shut down Laguerta on Dex last season. He had bigger plans. Just thoughts. can't wait for episode #9!
What makes you say this? It's been hinted at, but there's been nothing at all in the show that confirms this.
In season 5 Quinn hired the Private eye to spy on Dex and He got pics and video of him on the boat. Quinn had the Private eyes blood on his boot and Dex fixed the results so Quinn wouldn't get in trouble. Quinn has to know Dexter helped him out.
The only reason Quinn didn't turn Dexter in was because of Deb. Of course I haven't watched season 5 since I bought the DVD so maybe I'm remembering wrong but I thought for sure the private detective Quinn hired clued him into Dexter.

Labor Day weekend I guess, not that it stopped Breaking Bad.
Yeah I woke up this morning and I was disappointed it wasn't there to watch on my day off. I'm sure since they only have a couple episodes left they want to draw out the suspense as much as possible.

I just watched the most recent episode, and I hate to say it, but I'm losing hope that the series will end strong. This used to be a show that I just couldn't wait to see more of. Every time an episode ended, I would groan about having to wait to watch another. Now I find myself just kind of waiting for the 50 minutes to be up so I can do something else. It's a shame really.
I haven't watched the show in ages, but I saw a GIF of Dexter's son busting his face open on a treadmill and it was the most unintentionally funny thing I've seen in a while. The editing was shit awful. It cut from the toddler on the treadmill to a stunt double twice his size face planting.
