    Cobra Kai

Idk, looks like it could fall anywhere between corny as shit and pretty funny, but I grew up with this and so they've got me on the hook for at least the first episode.

I have been screaming about this show on Facebook and have mostly been ignored. I'm excited for this! Looks like fun. I just wish Mr. Miyagi was still around to see his prized student become a slimeball. That would have been great.

I’ve watched the first two episodes and I’m totally down for this. It’s pure cheese and there are already a ton of coincidences which tie all the characters together. But they’ve taken LaRusso’s insufferable positivity and found a way to make his arch nemesis someone you can root for. Neither man has the perfect life and it’ll be interesting to see where they take the characters.

10 episodes only lasting 30 mins each isn’t a huge commitment and so far the show has that earnest and straightforward 80s vibe which is refreshing. It felt a bit simplistic at first and overly fixated on the movie with all the clips...but then Johnny laid the smack down on a bunch of bullies and I was completely on board.

Love that Johnny is the face and Danny is the heel. I'm thinking by the end Danny will sell this Car dealership he has. Danny and Johnny then run new Cobra Kai together teaching Miyagi methods. Feel good moment had by all. I've been looking forward to this for awhile.

If that showdown in the dojo in episode 2 didn't sell you on this show, then I don't know what will. That shit was so fucking cool.

    Watched all the episodes.

Bit of a mixed bag. The nostalgia plays well enough, the kid acting isn't too distracting. However im not 100 percent on board with the more humorous approach the show takes, because the films really didn't play much for humor. I mean there was charm sure, but the humor wasn't overly used. My guess is with Pat Morita long dead, they probably wanted to try a different approach, or it could be something they chose without any side factor.

For what it is, I think it works well enough. I do think based on the ending to the first season that it might run out of steam fast and go from something mostly grounded in a believable reality to just being a show relying solely on nostalgia to tells its story. Hopefully not.

Been loving this all the way through episode 7. The character connections and opposing angles from the original have been fun while still being an easily digestible 'page-turner'. And especially the humor, gags and one-liners by Johnny have been hitting all along. Then just finished episode 8 ... and the end of that one was kind of a bummer. Gonna finish the last two in the next day or so, and so we'll see how it goes, but that was a pretty difficult leap to suspend disbelief for. Hope they tie that junk up nice and quick and get back to the formula heading into the tournament.

Loved this series, just wish it was on netflix and not Youtube Red. The setup for all the characters had me hooked, but I couldn't help but feel like the tournament came out of nowhere. They set it up, but then other things happened and this it was "Oh yeah tournament, over."

    Looking forward to season 2

    And just for nostalgia.

I ended up binge watching this last night. Really fun and entertaining show, and the writing was cheesy at points but also really solid. I thought the stories were told rather well and Zabka did a tremendous job as Johnny. Looking forward to the twists and turns they can create going forward.

Absolutely loving this so far. I'm up to the seventh episode. I thought this would be fun nostalgia and it has been but it's also turning out to be a genuinely good and interesting TV show.

When I could see him pulling up, I had a feeling that's where they were going. I knew then I had to brace myself lol. The show wasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought it was so well done.

6 episodes in. Fun to watch, but I don't see myself ever re-watching it. Having the premade characters ready to go has definitely made it better.

Cobra Kai,” a TV offshoot of the “Karate Kid” film franchise, has outperformed all of its streaming competition, according to data provided to Variety by Parrot Analytics for the week of May 6-12, including Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” and “Arrested Development,” as well as Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Everyone seems to love this for sure. I've seen episodes 1-3 and I'm not sold so far. I really enjoy seeing Johnny and Daniel again though, it's the younger cast that's not convincing me. They feel kind of goofy, like some Disney teenage high school comedy or something.

I really enjoyed watching every episode of it. I thought the new and old characters gelled real well and the storyline was great, although a little rushed. Of course, what do you expect with only ten episodes?

I do have a question though... when does Hillary Swank come in with her bringing a third dojo into the mix?

Probably towards the end. Haven't seen any episodes but I'm impressed w/ the double turn.

I'm probably gonna watch the first 2 seasons again before watching Season 3.

Is it just me or does Johnny look a bit like Jeff Jarrett?

Yeah if Jeff went on a 15 year bender.

I was thinking of doing the same. I fucking bought those shits on Prime because I had no clue this show was going to Netflix. Fucking bullshit but I wanted to watch S2. Like 3 weeks later both seasons are on Netflix. Fucking glad though, S2 cliffhanger was a doozy. Glad I caught up sort of recently and only had to wait from the summer for S3.

how dare you? Jeff Jarrett wishes he had the commanding presence of Zabka.

I'm doing at least season 2 again in advance of season 3. I'm not sure about all this "secrets Miyagi was keeping" stuff, but I'll give these showrunners the benefit of the doubt.

You're right, what was I thinking?

Yeah with the Miyagi secret stuff I figure that just gives LaRusso a excuse to have to go to Japan and they can bring back Chozen and Kumiko.

Karate Kid Mafia has some potential.

I considered a mafia that was basically a Godfather Johnny vs. a Godfather Johnny with each having a core team and then recruiting function. Somewhat similar to JP's FF game.

Season 3 was amazing with lots of great fight scenes. Some great twists near the end which I won’t spoil here.

    Cannot wait for Season 4!

    Brilliant 3rd season.

Loved it and loved it more. The development of the characters was spot on, the story continued on nicely and love how the producers throw in digs we fans talk about like in the first episode when someone shouts “bullshit, you was the real bully” to Daniel

At least through season 3, his combover doesn't improve.

Just finished season 3 last night. Loved it. It wasn't absolutely over the top as season 2, but a lot of fun.
It felt, in some ways, like a transition season. Season 4 can't get here fast enough.

Also interesting that Robbie changed his hair yet he was on the run from the last season yet found the time to get his hair done!

Yeah definitely, feels like Season 4 could be the big finish though kinda hope it goes on but would be fine if that was it as well.

I read some place the show producers said they always had a six season show plan when they first started.

I binged it all last week and I love this show but season 2 was better than season 3 overall. I'm really excited for the next season though. 2022!

This is a show that I see definitely going the Stranger Things route and breaking the 3 season curse a lot of older shows on Netflix had.

I really liked season 3 more than the previous 2. That's not taking away from the others I just really liked the storytelling and reveals and nods to part 2 and 3.

It's definitely nice to see nostalgia in this show being accepted better than say...Star Wars 7-9? Apples and oranges.

Season 4 can't get here soon enough.

Watching this show makes me wish I still had all my Karate Kid toys. I think my Grandma on my mom's side made a lot of fucking money because we had so much shit as a youth. I even had Chuck Norris the cartoon toys. Still have some of them.

YES. I got rid of my when I was about 18. Regretting it not big time as I’m collecting old 80’s & 90’s stuff. The price of the Karate Kid figured on eBay is crazy.

Not too long ago I was at my grandparents and in a box full of random figures from the 80's and early 90's I found a random piece of the broken ice used for the breakaway challenge set. I was like wtf is this for? Then it hit me, oh shit, it's from the Karate Kid 2 playset.

Shout to my hoarder grandparents who kept as much as they could while my mom got rid of everything for free. She regrets it today lol.

The final scene of season 3 is outstanding. The choice of song is perfect, especially when the drum solo kicks in.

Finished this last night. Such a great show. Can't wait for season 4. And Chris my wife was saying the same thing about the final scene.

I will share more thoughts later. But again great show with great character arcs and development and enough call backs to the movies and such. I am so glad they did this.

Surely no more spoiler tags now? It’s been over month and anyone who’s not watched don’t deserve to be called fans haha.

But yeah like Badger said they had nothing for Nichole but the rumours where her behaviour in private life played a part but I think they played oh well leaving it open for her.

30 days seems pretty reasonable for a netflix show.

I’ll say Hawk. The long build to him eventually turning face was definitely worth it.

Johnny's story arc this season was stronger than Hawk's. From how low he had fallen, to where he ended up. Took him forever to grow up and learn you don't have to be an asshole to kick ass.

To me that was like “oh about time already” That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it when it finally happened though.

Hawk having his mind poisoned sinking to depths like breaking his best friend’s arm, having doubts, looking like he was going to finally turn away from Kreese to finally turning face at the end was my personal favourite. He managed to grow up while still being younger. It was the face turn WWE wish they could book.

I enjoyed that story. But the fact that he came back to school not knowing so much of what had gone down was a huge suspension of disbelief. His speech to the town council was done really well, though.

I kept thinking they were going to do more with Robbie's story, but was left wondering how much had simply gotten cut.

Tough one that there was a few good ones. Robby’s will probably go underrated because he’s not most peoples favourite. I’m going to go with Hawk though.

Robby's was underrated. No doubt. Strong set-up for season 4.

    Low-key quality arc: Daniel.

Johnny is very obviously the more compelling character in this show. Daniel dealt with failure, refocused, and the arc in Okinawa was well-handled. The interaction with Chozin was funny, and developed. But still, he didn't go overboard and become a complete saint. He's still an ass to Johnny.

I even liked that, true to karate kid movie style, he picked up an all-powerful tactic in one training session, and employed it win at the end. He made some level of peace with pretty much everyone, but you didn't feel like he was acting out of character.

I wouldn't put his arc over Johnny (the most developed) or Hawk (the most mark out for), but this may have been the strongest Daniel season.

I appreciate the smooth transition from parody to martial arts dramedy. Season 3 felt like a Karate Kid movie. None of this is me being negative. The first 2 seasons were very tongue in cheek, very mid 90's B-movie comedy vibe. 3 definitely had more of a serious tone.

Entirely agree. Great read. Actually found myself getting a little emotional at Daniel’s arc in Okinawa too.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaah cannot wait. I've been watching Karate Kid 3 in preparation for the return of Terry Silver - obviously madly over the top performance but I enjoyed it.

Predictions on series 4? Miguel/Robbie re-match at the final. Daniel/Silver fight at some point?

    Prediction?

    Pain

Now that my Mr. T quote is out of the way:

Johnny and Daniel vs. Kreese and Silver happens.

Johnny finds out the Kreese is his Biological father.

Robbie and Miquel get the rematch.....But Tori vs Sam decides the Soul of the Valley.

Just not sure yet how they work in Karate's Bad Boy, Mike Barnes yet.

This is genuinely one of the best shows out there. Cannot wait to see Silver’s dastardly deeds.

If Silver hangs around for season 5, then they could bring back Barnes for that season. Myagi-Kai prove to be too strong in the tournament, especially when Tori refuses to do severe damage to Sam and turns face in the process, so Kreese and Silver decide to try and take out Daniel and Johnny themselves with Barnes tipping the odds in their favour. Leading to Daniel calling Chozen and a three-on-three tornado tag match of awesomeness.

    Loving the new trailer.

I really hope they dig into the backstory between Silver and Daniel from KK3, loads to go at there. The scene with Miyagi v Creese & Silva is my favourite scene ever.

Yeah, that scene is badass. I love how the score kicks in when Silver says "C'mon little man. Let's see how good you really are."

If you're not excited for the return of Cobra Kai this week, you need to reevaluate your life priorities.

I won’t say too much so as not to spoilerise but this series put my heart through the wringer and some twists and turns which will come into play next season which makes me cannot wait for Season 5! It was amazing! They zagged when I thought they zagged.

Watch it people when you can if you get the chance if you haven’t done so already!

    PS Happy New Year!

Binged it all today. Really strong final episode. The fight choreography in the tournament was really impressive and the music was great. With how things stand for the good guys and bad guys at the end, I need season 5 now.

Fantastic season. Karate Kid 3 was the one that came out when I was old enough to understand movies (I think I was 7 when we went to this) and it really pushed my need to be a martial artist over the edge. Thomas Ian Griffith was legit and it still blows my mind he's actually younger than Ralph Macchio by a year. Or that William Zabka is 4-5 years younger. They all looked great and season 5 is going to be the last and probably the best one.

I've read that plans are going beyond season 5. Agreed that its likely to be the best one. All the characters are at interesting places right now.

The fact that season 5 is already filmed are making me hope for a summer release.

I find it hard to believe Kreese's redemption arc, even if it's small.

Yeah I just saw an article on FB talking about Season 6.

As long as they don't dabble outside of the first 3 movies. I don't want to see any Hillary Swank bullshit, definitely don't want to see Kung Ku Kid with Jaden Smith. Karate Kid 4 was so fucking terrible.
