Since when did Hall-of-Fames become Hall-of-Good-Guys? He was an arrogant selfish dick, but he fucking brought it on game days; his numbers clearly place him amongst the top-5 all-time receivers, he deserves 100% to be in Canton.
TO without doubt deserves to be and will be in the HOF but I don't really care if he's 2nd or 3rd or 4th ballot. Cris Carter didn't get in until his 6th ballot and when he retired he was in the same place TO is now (2nd in receiving yards and touchdowns).
On the other hand, I can see why TO is pissed because next year Moss becomes eligible and that means this is headed for a potentially awkward situation. If Moss and TO both get in next year, TO will be upstaged by the 1st ballot entry of Moss even though TO has better stats. If Moss gets in and TO gets left out again, TO will probably explode. The only acceptable outcome for TO at this point (given his ego) is that he gets in next year and Moss doesn't.
From a fan perspective, having them go in together would be pretty cool.

With offense ever evolving in the game one generation to the next have grown up with Otto Graham, later Johnny Unitas or later Roger Staubach, then Montana, Elway/Marino, Favre/Young, and lately Manning/Brady. Ours are the latest and most dealing with newer wrinkles and complexities, but it's been like technology, where each thought theirs was the end all be all at the time.
And not to tear PD's point up, but I think this is just an interesting facet to the ongoing history of the game of football. Could it stop, and when?
