Which games have sucked up your time?

As the title suggests, tell us which games you think you've wasted the most hours playing. Obviously don't need specific numbers although if you do happen to know then good for you. A few of mine as follows:

    1. Championship Manager 01/02 - between 2001 and 2006 (when I next bought a FM game) I'd be amazed if I put in less than 500 hours. Totally addictive, could easily spend an entire weekend playing it. Recently started it up again and have probably done close to 100 hours in the last year alone.

    2. Morrowind - Despite clocking up for sure several hundred hours of play, I never even completed the main quest which is ridiculous looking back. I just loved walking around the world getting into scrapes and doing some of the guild questlines. It came out at the perfect time and in fact I remember buying it because I wanted to find an open world LOTR game which didn't exist at the time (and ridiculously still doesn't). It felt like the closest thing and it absolutely was. I loved how weird it was compared to traditional high fantasy with all these bizarre creatures like the Netches, Guars and Clannfears although I was a massive coward when it came to video games back then so I would quite often avoid fights where possible.

    3. Skyrim - Unsurprisingly, I also played Skyrim to death, definitely put in around 700-800 hours on this with multiple playthroughs and different styles. Looking back I think Skyrim is massively overrated; an amazing world but pretty shallow stuff in terms of the story, quests and combat. But the big open fantasy world is pretty hard to resist, evidently, and giving someone the old FUS RO DAH off a cliff never seems to get old.

    4. Super Smash Bros. Melee - for a couple of years this was basically all I played. I haven't checked in a while but I distinctly remember passing the 1000 hour mark. Helps that I've had it since 2003.

I'm sure that in time Red Dead 2 will join this list, I've already done two full playthroughs and one of them I took incredibly slowly by comparison. Terraria and Fallout 4 I've also put a fair bit of time into, and Super Mario 64 of course.

    Ok, go for it!

Champ Manager for sure. Think my first one was 95/96 and think up to 01/02 I just lived on them.

Sensible World of Soccer was another.

    Others:-

    Street Fighter 2
    Streets of Rage
    NBA Jam
    Super Bomberman
    Speed Freaks
    Time Splitters
Grand Theft Auto (too many to mention)
    Arkam Asylum
    Cannon Fodder
    Lemmings
    General Chaos
    Syndicate
    Streets of Rage
    Tekken (numerous)
    Dynasty Warriors (numerous)
    Fifa
    Pro Evo
    Road Rash
    Desert Strike
    Command and Conquer
    Call of Duty

    Not many recently though...

    Pokemon: Red/Blue/Yellow
    The Sims
    CM 00/01 and 01/02
Pro Ev - all of them from the first one through to 2010.
    Extreme Warfare: Revenge
    Call of Duty: Black Ops
    Skyrim
    Fallout 4
    GTA V: Online

I played the utter shit out of many, many other games like the Zeldas, Marios, Sonics etc but the above games I would play for 6 hours easily and wouldn't notice.

I forgot about the Sims. Very, very addictive. Sim City too, I even had that on the Amstrad. Theme Park is another. I have never played Theme Hospital, is it good anyone?

I recently started CM 01/02 again and I'm kinda glad I've struggled because I was proper hooked on this back in the day.

Gran Turismo on the PS used to be played to death too.

I've recently started playing Fifa '20. Very recently, actually. It was 2 o'clock this morning...

For me the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises from the beginning until Rock Band 2. Just a ridiculous amount of time playing that.

GTA Vice City was one of those when I was a kid.

Star Wars Galaxies the only MMO I really got that deep into.

Gran Turismo. 3 in particular was a devil of a time waster. Doing those “24 hour” races to unlock a F1 car.

    Majoras Mask and OoT.

Bleh I've been playing Final Fantasy XI for last 3 years, so with around 1500-2000 hours I'd say that takes the cake for me.

MLB 2005 - did a franchise with a friend when we were both single. I think we took it all the up to the 2025 season. Not sure how many hours it was but we did full 162 game seasons of nine inning games, a rough guess is probably 1500 hours if each game took 30 minutes or so.

Golden Eye - N64 and Wii versions. The appeal wasn't in finishing the game but the multiplayer version. Couldn't get enough of it. We used to have tournaments at a cousin's house on the weekends when it first came out. Big money for 14 year olds.

Without a doubt Resident Evil 5. I've spent so much time playing the Mercenaries modes. We use the PS3 as a media player for my daughters' room and I'll still go in and pop off a few sessions.

Honorable mentions: No Mercy, WCW NWO Revenge, Resident Evil 3, Super Mario Bros 3, and Super Mario World.

Any WWE game took up my life. Also Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64.

Don't play games much anymore. Last game I remember being fully immersed in was Lego Jurassic Park and I think that was 3 - 4 years ago at this point.

I've been playing way too much GTA San Andreas. I bought it off the PS store 5-6 months ago and really started playing it hardcore a few months back. I used to play it so much when my brother lived with us back in 2004-2005. We had the big map it came with posted up and just had a blast.

My cousin Erik and I used to play the original GTA on his computer and some game called Leisure Suit Larry. I think they attempted to make a console version of Larry but it flopped massively.

Shout out to the first Max Payne on PC as well.

I recall in the 90s sometime playing Star Wars: Dark Forces quite a lot on the computer.

Hmmm let me see if I can do a proper list. (I reserve the right to repent on this list/change this list/argue against this list at any time)

    5. - Super Mario World - Ok I played games before the 16 bit era but I was a little kid and had no attention span so I never really played ONE game for very long. That changed with the SNES era and as this was the pack in game, I'd be hard pressed to find a game in this era that I played more often.

    4. - Super Mario Kart - Hey look I found one! I think me and my little brother played the OG kart every day for about two or three years straight.

    3. Animal Crossing - GCN - God I got lost in this game for about 6 months straight. And I played long long sessions multiple times a day getting every secret item and piece of furniture I could. It would only get deeper with the DS version but my memories arent as fond of that one because I had nobody to connect with and visit so fuck that one.

    2. Fire Emblem: Three Houses - This list needs a newer game and this is it. Something like 250 hours in and I'll probably top 350 before the year is over.

    1. Resident Evil 4 - GCN/Wii/PS3/Switch - My favorite game of all time. I've played it beginning to end, inside and out, frontwards and backwards so many times I couldnt even begin to calculate the time I've spent. It never gets old and even talking about it now makes me kind of wanna play it again.

Super Mario World is a time hole for sure - incredible amount of content for a game like that at that time.

I remember the Star World being particularly nasty.

Must play it again once my nephew's done with my SNES mini.

    I game a lot.

Historically, World of Warcraft probably has the most time of any title... But Football Manager, FIFA, Madden and NBA 2k with each year combined would be pretty astronomical.

Oh dude you have no idea. This was mind blowing for me and my friends how deep this game went and that's 1 awesome thing about Super Mario going back to the 1st one with the warp levels. What a genius idea, and we're talking 35 years ago they were already pulling out all the stops for these Mario games.

Yep. I would quite comfortably hit 1000 hours each release of FM. More when I was running Rajah Italia or wherever we went each season.

I think Mario 1 is easier when you don't warp. Since you're not skipping the easy levels you have more chances to be big Mario when you get to the harder levels. In fact I once made it all the way to world 7-1 without dying once. Sadly, I couldn't complete it with the one life and have never been able to recreate that feat.

haha. I think I probably made it to World 8 without warping but to do without dying, impossible for me lol.

    Persona 3,4 & 5. Absolute masterpieces.
Final Fantasy from 3 to X.
    Final Fantasy Tactics.
Breath of Fire III. Cant beat a game that offers fishing and worldwide hide and seek as side games.
GTA V until the stunt races became a thing.
FIFA clubs back in the day (4th best defender in the world...)
    Loads of RPGs and JRPGs.
    Civilization.
    Suikoden (all of them)

I need a proper time sink to play now actually. I keep going to try games but they never quite grab me.

Loved 2, I think 4 was the peak. Bloody hell I lost some days and nights to that game.

That reminds me - Rollercoaster Tycoon! I played the shit out of that, crazy how good that game was. I guess strategy games are always likely to be prime candidates for vanishing your weekends.

I only just realised that you can play some SNES games online on the Switch so I booted up a game of SMW over the weekend. God it's so good still. Absolutely flawless and still so satisfying finding the hidden exits to levels (which are EVERYWHERE).

I don't think I've ever beaten the secret levels. I can't remember which one trips me up - possibly Tubular?

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever beaten SMB3 either. Am I actually rubbish at Mario games?

There's like 72 overall levels and 96 different exits. Its wild how much they packed into that game. And the biggest complaint, usually that's its too easy, is rectified once you get to

    and some of those later

As far as games that have really eaten up a lot of my time.

    - Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5 - They're largely the same kind of game, except that Far Cry 5 introduces animal companions to help you out (seriously, select the dog and the big cat and watch the dog sniff the big cat's ass and get smacked in the head for it - its amazing.) But these games took up so much of my time. Exploring, climbing towers, exploding cult idols, sneaking into enemy encampments and fucking guys up without triggering an alarm or alerting anybody - like your name is John F'N Rambo. And the story of both the games - Good chunky, meaty missions. Far Cry 4 has a great combat arena mode you can dump a lot of time into. Far Cry 5 has great Doomsday Prepper bunkers you can find and raid. They hit me in just that right "one more camp/one more outpost/one more tower/find one more barrel of moonshine" part of my stupid lizard brain.

    - Super Mario World - As mentioned above. This game is Godly and it gets hard as shit in the late game and post-game stuff.

    - Goldenye on the Nintendo 64 - Great single player. Oodles of speed running potential and a multiplayer suite to keep everybody going for hours.

    - Perfect Dark - See above, but with aliens and shit.

    - Mortal Kombat Trilogy- On the Nintendo 64- My buddies and I lost a summer vacation to this game. And it was the gimped version with the worse graphics and lacking three formerly unplayable boss characters (kharacters?) but we had the strategy guide with all the moves, Surge, and pizza for days and there were enough other kharacters in that game to keep coming up with new combinations and "dream matches" that we never ran out.

    - Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Playstation 2 - Again, funny enough, the gimped version. Take everything from the above, and imagine I said it about Spider-Man punching Mega Man in the face while Jill Valentine from Resident Evil throws zombie dogs and crows into the middle of the battlefield to stop the pummeling.

    - Resident Evil 2, Nemesis, and 4 - I lost a lifetime to these fucking games. 2 is an all-time classic, I beat the game with both characters, then beat again with both characters using an Infinite Ammo cheat for the 64 version. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is short enough that one time I accidentally deleted my save and in less time than it took me to get there the first time, I got farther along. Nemesis is junk food for Resident Evil fans. Its just substantive enough to give you a meaty game, but you can replay it more immediately than the first two and its not such a weighty and long-term experience. Resident Evil 4 may be the greatest game of all time. Full stop.

    - Resident Evil 2 Remake - Beat this one six different times. With both the characters on their "First Scenario", then both characters on their "Second Scenario", then back through with both characters using the unlockable infinite ammo rocket launcher, MP5 machine gun, and the chaingun again - on both their first and second scenarios. And then I buzz-sawed through the 4th Survivor and Tofu unlock modes and then devoured The Ghost Survivors free DLC, including a replay of all four scenarios with the Infinite Ammo Cat Ears.

Oh, and I did partial replays of the game with both characters, to get all the Mr. Raccoon trophies and collect all the files for the Trophies for each. So... that's at least a partial 7th and 8th playthrough.

And I even redownloaded the demo of the game just to play through the opening bit to hear the Nemesis' "STARS" roar, that Capcom added as an Easter Egg to hype people for the Resident Evil 3 Remake.

Oh tons and tons. Recently Mario Maker 2 has been working that ass to get on the list but I don't think it's quite there.
In no particular order and one of them probably shouldn't count.

    1. Breath of the Wild. I'm simply too easily distracted by "oooh, never killed one of those before!" to make progress
    2. Street Fighter 2/4 all editions.
    3. Tekken 3 forward
    4. Sim City (does it count that half the time I'd disconnect the SNES and play another system only checking in for taxes?)
    5. Arkham City. Man considering I never did get all of the Riddler Trophies god knows I put work in there.
    6. RE4, I was a little light on cash and unemployed for a bit when this came out. I got to the point where it was like "Okay handguns only people!"
    7. Left 4 Dead: I used to run escort missions. Apparently word got out and I get invites like "I need guns akimbo or what not." And on expert mode wishing I could slap people for real. "I'm not scared of the tank! He can't actually kill me! You and your fucking shotgun are deadly!

Does that happen to include The Hand Cannon?

Nope, that was its own run but ammo starts being an issue there pretty quickly.

Not if you pay enough for the infinite ammo upgrade.
