Thread: The Official Spurs Transfer Rumours thread

His agent is doing his best to tout him, telling reporters that 'the big five' (...) are all interested. Doubt we'll get him, but that's one of the rumours.

Also, there's a pretty funny bit of insider knowledge that says United and Spurs have a strange semi-friendly rivalry going now...Gill contacted Comolli to see if they could get a deal for Berby but was told to fuck off. Then he asked about Defoe, only for Comolli to then ask about Heinze and Smith...Comolli said that we moved aside to let United get Nani so allow us a cheeky bid on those two, but Gill says back that they let us have Bale so we're equal...funny stuff.

The mere fact that we're going for the same players United are after, and getting a few of them, is really encouraging.

I MGP but his lack of consistency means he'd be some way behind Bentley, Reid, Nelsen, Samba and Warnock in my 'bothered if they left' list.

We could really do with a left winger, maybe we need him more than you. I'd rather get the Bentley though.

Nah, Bentley loves it here. Big interview in the local rag the other day saying how much he owes to Hughes, the club and the fans for getting his career on the right track.

Says everyone at the club is looking at certainly being top 6 and pushing the top 4 next season.

Yeah I've seen him mention a few times that he's really happy there - he's matured a lot since he joined you lot, cos he used to be a right arrogant, mouthy cunt. He's a Tottenham boy though, so maybe one day we'll have him away from you. He was in the papers the other day talking about how when he was a kid his favourite players were the Tottenham strikers.

"Bentley issues a come and get me plea to Spurs"

Certainly were linked with him, and Fergie admitted interest. Dunno about a bid. Ignoring him, getting Bale and Berby ahead of you when we're nowhere near your level isn't a bad effort.

We're either offering £8m for Petrov or we're not depending on what paper you read.

Apparently we want Marlon Harewood; I'm hoping that this is a very cheap deal for a spare striker rather than any attempt to put him into our first team any time soon.

Oh and following every Spurs fan in the world saying that they don't want Luis Figo and Spurs saying that they wouldn't break their wage structure for older players who come on a Bosman...

Luis Figo has come out and said he doesn't want to play in England anyway.

    Here's a quick impression

"I'd love to play in England"

    *Tumbleweed*

"I didn't want to play in England anyway"

You should take Lee "The Hotshot" Barnard on loan for a year, he'd score a shitload and keep you up.

I actually wouldn't be completely devastated if we got Harewood...I don't rate him much, but he's happy enough being fourth (fifth if you include Ashton) choice at West Ham so I'm assuming he'd be happy doing the same with us, considering we have UEFA Cup football and so more matches in which he'd be needed...certainly preferable to fat man Mido, and at least Harewood works hard. Although on the other hand I watched the last game of the season, and seeing Kieran Richardson outmuscle Harewood on about four different occasions was one of the strangest things I'd ever seen.

Obviously we should be looking for someone (much) better, but I don't think you'll find many players who are willing to be fourth choice and are better than Harewood.

    Very banable.

We've apparently moved ahead in the race to sign Sneijder.

Tottenham Hotspur have edged ahead of Aston Villa in the battle to sign Wesley Sneijder as they are willing to pay the €15m (£10.2m) transfer fee being demanded by Ajax.

The creative midfielder, who is 23 this weekend, is also keen to team up with Spurs' Dutch manager Martin Jol and would prefer a move to London rather than Birmingham. Talks are understood to have been held with his agent, Rodger Lindse.

Ajax have already rejected a series of bids from Valencia for the Dutch international which peaked at €12m (£8.1m). He was recently watched by the Villa manager Martin O'Neill at the Dutch Cup final but Jol is believed to have the advantage in chasing his signature.

If he does arrive at White Hart Lane, it will be another bold statement of intent from Spurs who have already spent up to £10m on Gareth Bale from Southampton. The pair could link up down Spurs' problematic left-flank although Sneijder, who is genuinely two-footed, can play on either flank or through the middle.

Sneijder, who played for the Netherlands in their friendly victory over Thailand on Wednesday, has been a first-team regular at Ajax for five years. He has two years on his current contract and the Dutch club has said they will hold on to him and run the risk of him going for free if they do not receive the transfer fee they are demanding.

Spurs' interest in the player is even more long-standing than Villa's, with Frank Arnesen enquiring about his availability when he was sporting director two years ago.
    From The Independent.

The only bit of insider info regarding him is this:

Sneider is our main midfield target. It is expected that he is our replacement for routledge and upgarde on Malbs - their not confident Lennon will be the star he think he is next year and want a proven talent - Lennon does have a price apparently.

Which doesn't really tell us much.

Other than that, we're looking at Fabio Quigliarella who is apparently immense, not seen much of him other than two fantastic goals he scored in Serie A last season, and I heard he got a couple of excellent goals the other night for Italy as well...supposed to be top drawer, the future of Italian football etc etc.

Chimbonda is now being linked to Seville - seems like something of a sideways step unless he just wants to move abroad. Mido to Birmingham and Murphy to Wigan, also.

I'm shocked that Valencia wouldn't go above £8m; insanity right there.

If we get him I'll be very happy but you couldn't blame a Champions League side for coming in for him and you couldn't blame him for signing for a bigger side if they do come in.

Exactly; and especially for a player who's only 23.

You can almost understand penny pinching for players who will only have a couple of years left in them but not for a player with most of his career in front of him.

I could understand it if Spurs were only offering about £2m for him in the first place and being asked to pay another £2m, but when a player's being valued at £10.2m and you're offering £8m, you obviously badly want the player, so why not pay the extra £2m they're asking?

Spurs have just completed the best signing that any club will make this summer.

    http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...tchagreed.html

Adel Taarabt's loan move has been made permanent.

We've also signed a 17 year old from Bilbao called Yuri Berchiche.

    http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...inacademy.html

Add these guys (I'm assuming Berchiche is quite good based on Comolli's quotes in that link) to Dervite, Peckhart etc and we've got a great youth team going.

To be fair, I saw Fletcher play for Scotland U16s and he was by far the best player on the park when they played England.

I got £20m for Fletcher when I sold him in my Man U FM07 game.

    Palermo must've been desperate.

Was he playing against Keiran Richardson?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Watched Rovers Vs West Ham in a youth game years ago.

Present Premiership players on both teams. Best player on the pitch BY A MILE was Leon Britton who's at Swansea now. Absolutely tremendous technically.

I don't think Sneijder would be a bargain at £10 million. He'd definitely be a risk.

Considering what English players you could get for £10m...absolutely.

If we get £6m for Mido from Brum then we should be arrested for paying only £10m for Sneijder.

We won't get £6m for Mido. I'd be surprised if we got £3m for him...the deal with City in January was supposed to only be about £2m, don't see why we'd suddenly have jacked his price up like that.

Latest ITK stuff says that Bent won't be joining the Spam - that's supposedly come directly from Curbishley. No guarantee that that means he will join us, but West Ham were the main stumbling block with their riches.

Doubt that. If Benitez is to challenge for the title then he needs to be bringing in better players than Bent. I don't even think Spurs should be looking at Bent really.

  71. #271

I dunno, Bent is a very good player...certainly not £18m, but he's better than anything Liverpool have at the moment. The main reason we're after him seems to be because Jol is planning a change of system, switching between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1...if we start using 4-5-1 regularly, then an injury to Berby would really fuck us, as neither Keane or Defoe can play up front on their own - whereas Bent can.

That's basically what it comes down to, Bent is more adaptable than Defoe.

    Bent
Bent and Berbatov can play together
Bent and Keane can play together
Bent can play up front on his own

    Defoe
Defoe and Berbatov can play together
Defoe and Keane cannot play together
Defoe cannot play up front on his own

Jol obviously doesn't like the idea of Defoe and Keane up front together, so he wants someone capable of playing alongside any striker and capable of playing alone up front. Defoe isn't right for either of those roles, Bent is.

its a bit of an assumption he would play well with keane. Infact maybe he would play better with defoe than the other 2? Maybe he isnt as smart with his movement or passing as the other 2 and so would be out of the loop

West Ham have, apparently, had a £12m bid for Defoe turned down.

It sounds more like Defoe's said no than Spurs though.

Yes, but Bent is a proven quality player who has scored goals throughout his career. Let's not start comparing Bent to Mido, Bent is far superior. There's no guarantee that Bent will play well with Keane, but there's every reason to believe they would, same as there is every reason to believe he could play well alongside Berbatov or up front on his own. Defoe has proven that unless he's playing alongside a big man, he won't form a good partnership. The same can be said of Keane, but Keane is superior to Defoe at present.

By the style of player he is. He's proven he can play up front on his own, which Defoe can't. He's also proven he can play alongside a small man, which Defoe can't. I've already admitted that there's no guarantee he will link up well with Berby or Keane, but there's every reason to think he will.

In any case, it seems as though Defoe isn't definitely leaving, he's just available 'at the right price'. Crucially, the Bent signing doesn't depend on Defoe leaving. If we can fuck Mido off and get Bent in, that would be a hell of a strike force, arguably better than when United had Cole, Yorke, Sheringham and Solskjaer.

On the other hand, it could be something of a 'death or glory' situation - maybe we'd be willing to keep Defoe and sign Bent because we know that, unless we start challenging for major honours in the very near future, Berbatov might be off - having four top strikers could be seen as a way of ensuring our chances of finishing near the top are as high as possible, or it could just be an insurance policy against Berby leaving if we don't finish near the top.

There has been a rumour going around that if we're not in the top four in January, Berbatov would be off. Hopefully he'll finally sign a new contract to calm those fears.

I like Bent but I can't help but feel that Simon likes him a bit too much; if you know what I mean.

There are lots of better strikers out there but for a 4th choice striker he'd be pretty bloody useful.

I agree. Like I said before, I think Spurs should be looking at a better quality of player than him. Good pace and a good athlete with a decent eye for goal.

    Nothing more than that though.

I don't see him ever starting ahead of Berbatov or partnering Berby ahead of Keane or Defoe so unless we get injuries or a load of really easy matches then I doubt he'll play 20 games a year for us.

Why would we pay £8m for that let alone £15m or £20m like people are saying now?

He would be a good signing and I hope that he does go to Newcastle but I also hope that James Milner isn't a bench warmer next season because he was fantastic last season and proved he is worthy of a first team slot. I suppose Milner is boosted by the fact that he can play along the midfield.

Of course Giuly would probably want European football, making Tottenham the club he is more likely to go to.

What I've heard is that Spurs see Bale as an eventual left winger so we're still looking for a left back. In that situation we'll need a left winger for a couple of years.

I think Giuly's 30 or so so he seems perfect.

I doubt many players would leave Barca and go to a club with no European football.

Defoe played something like 40 games this season in total. Bent would be likely to play the same, if not more - Berby and Keane both stayed fit almost all season, but they might not next year. Bent would expect to play 40 games if not more for us this season, assuming we continue our success in the cups.

If Curtis Davies is a £6m player then Chris Samba is a £40m player.

I think we all know that being English really hikes up that fee.

Robbie Keane was rumoured to be off for £7m last season.
For Defoe I've heard up to £15m at different times.

Apparently we've tabled a new bid for Bent. I really hope we don't end up paying more than £10m for him before we've got ourselves a left winger.

Starting Left Winger > 4th choice striker.

I suppose if you got stupid money for Carrick, you might aswell waste it.
