Who they were. How did Palpatine have a kid, who was the kid's mother? Was he a clone? Is Rey a clone? Where was said kid during the entirety of the saga? How about those questions?

what about them? none of them are that interesting. palpatine had power and was a regular looking dude up until ROTS, i imagine women were willing to fuck him. i dont need the details of how he managed to have a kid.

The giant missing holes about Palp's return is a much bigger problem than Rey's parents and their connection with Palpatine. It makes perfect sense that a Senator from Naboo (Palp's job before he took over) would have a child. That does not seem odd to me at all.

According to the Visual Dictionaries, Rey is 20 at the start of Force Awakens. Her parents had her 10 years after Return of the Jedi, so he'd still be alive when he had a kid.

If he was able to hide being a Sith Lord for decades, hiding a wife/child seems very plausible.

It’s a sci fi kids movie series not a song of ice and fire

Star Wars > Game of thrones. Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter is so shoe horned into this thing that he needs to explain it. Is the son a clone or not? Did Luke train him as he was killed by a Jedi Hunter? JJ never shows his work and if there is 40 more minutes hopefully it is tondo that instead of show something and never tell.

Thing is, kids pick up on plotholes etc and appreciate good stories too. I saw Phantom Menace in the cinema when I was 12, prime age to love Star Wars, but I'm certain I didn't see Attack of the Clones until it popped up on TV, and I didn't watch the original trilogy at all until I was about 16. I remember not really understanding TPM which in hindsight was absolutely correct because it was nonsense.

In other words, to say that having large plot points explained isn't important because the movies are aimed at kids (which itself is highly debatable) is dumb.

Screen time dedicated to answering those questions would be many, many degrees less entertaining than lightsaber fights.

look I don't disagree that this new trilogy is mediocre but why would Palpatine's son be a clone? feels like that's overthinking it, but I must be missing something.

the revelation of her being a Palpatine did strike me as odd given that they seemed to answer the question in TLJ that she was a nobody. was Kylo intentionally withholding that fact from her in TLJ or did he not know?

No. Rian Johnson is just a dumbass, and wanted to ruin Star Wars. J.J. had to try and fix his mess.

Making her a nobody was better. It lead to the theme of Last Jedi where everyone has the Force even people who don't have special family trees. Making her related to Palpatine fits this Elite narrative that you have to come from this Royal family or close it to be a Jedi. Which is bullshit. I would much rather Rey find Jedi to train than side quest for an hour to find a dagger.

Everybody can use the force; some bloodlines (or species) are just better at it.

I don't mind Rey being related to everyone as much as Palp coming back from the dead with no explanation.

Saw it last night finally. Coming out the cinema first thoughts it was not bad but not the best.. I never compare them to the other ones I just go to enjoy them. I’d say this comes off as the worst of the new trilogy.

Did I miss something though about Palpatine having a son? Also didn’t see that coming Rey being his granddaughter.

EDIT: WOW the fans really took Ben Solo dying pretty bad, wanting him back lol.

No, you didn't miss anything. This had never been established or remotely hinted at in any way. Like most plot elements of this movie, it makes no sense and also undercuts its own message - like Rey's internal battle is about whether she is destined to be a piece of shit because of who her grandfather is/was, even though obviously that doesn't mean anything because her parent, who was literally Palpatine's child, was not evil and they were able to successfully repress any Palpatine-ness that existed in them.

I don't think it's nitpicking to ask these questions, the plot is as confusing and nonsensical as the prequel trilogy for sure. Some questions to bear in mind:

    1. At the start of the film, it's stated that Palpatine is broadcasting in an attempt to reach out to Kylo Ren. Ok great idea, but isn't there that thing where highly powerful force sensitive individuals, like these two, can to some extent communicate telepathically? You know, like tons of characters have done, including Luke/Leia on several occasions including Empire Strikes Back? And indeed, like Kylo Ren has been very prominently doing with Rey? You would think Palpatine would be able to reach him without the need to rely on radio signals.

    2. The MacGuffin is the 'Sith Wayfinder', again it's not clear why this would be needed, or why there would be two of them, or how anyone knows that there are two of them or how they found out where the other one was. It doesn't seem difficult to find but has apparently sat there for 20 years unfound.

    3. The dagger which leads them to the crashed Star Destroyer - who crafted it? Where did it come from? Did Palpatine make it? The thing where you have to line up the dagger with the outline of the Star Destroyer is one of the stupidest things in the movie - it relies on the holder being stood in the exact spot that Rey happened to be stood when she figured out what the outline was. They are stood on what appears to be a long cliff but this lineup wouldn't work if she was a hundred yards to the left or right. It also wouldn't work if the crashed Star Destroyer shifted in the water or suffered further damage. It's absolute nonsense.

    4. Who built all the Star Destroyers? Are they manned? What's going on?

    5. Anakin built C-3PO; so...did he programme him to be able to understand but not allowed to translate the Sith language? Why does this feature exist? This is actually more a hangover from Phantom Menace because it's completely idiotic that Anakin would build a protocol droid to help his slave mother, it makes no sense.

I genuinely don't understand how people could think this film is brilliant. It is at best a moderately entertaining way to fill a couple of hours, as long as you don't think about the plot AT ALL. It doesn't make sense on its own terms, let alone as part of a trilogy.

It's hard to rank the films in the trilogy because they all have major failings but I'm inclined to say that the Force Awakens ends up being the best almost by default - its own internal story mostly makes sense (because it's just a retread of New Hope) and it sets up some interesting plot things. It's not TFA's fault that those things are never paid off and in some cases just totally dropped and ignored.

    It definitely isn’t.
The Force Awakens was miles ahead. Had a great feel to it and wasn’t full of annoying little plot holes.

Could be bullshit but it does at least feel like they have something resembling a plan so there's a good chance this will be better than the recent film trilogy.

I am very excited for The High Republic. They have a lot of great writers, both old and new to the Star Wars world. Really excited to see the Jedi in their prime.

I know it is fashionable to shit on the sequel trilogy, but a concept and construction of the High Republic was never going to happen with these movies. There was a rush on these movies the minute Disney bought them.

They definitely will if it sucks. Best thing they could do is make it not suck.

I don't claim to know anything about the process of creating a TV show but decent or better shows come out all the time. If anyone has the clout to bring in the required writing, producing and directing talent required to make these things a success, it's Disney. Their animated films are generally of a high quality, even the worst ones are certainly watchable. Marvel have reached the same level where for the last five years they haven't put out anything that can reasonably be described as bad. The live action remakes are dreadful but they literally only exist to part idiots from their cash so they can see a shitter version of a film they've already seen, so they barely count. There is no excuse for them to not put out competent films and shows, at the very least.

Star Wars is yet to find its groove since being bought up - I haven't seen it but I've heard some promising reviews of The Mandalorian so that probably bodes well.

I would think if it takes off and is popular, they will adapt it going forward.

The Mandolorian is quite good. Potential to be outstanding. I would suggest that this style of programming will develop into the best star wars content we have seen. The Mandolorian is already among the greatest star wars projects and it seems to be in its infancy.

@Gangers, your specialty appears to be discussing things passionately that you haven't seen and/or dont know about.

I highly agree with this. Both clone wars and rebels are amazing. Now they did make Anakin look like a fucking fool on the latest episode of clone wars but it cant be perfect.

I'm a big fan of the animated shows. I wish I would've known years ago that The Clone Wars was not in order. I was confused for a while when it was on. Rebels is some of the best of Star Wars?

Has anyone seen Resistance? Now that it is on Disney Plus, I'm going to start watching. The animation style looks pretty cool.

I havent yet, resistance that is. I meant to before ros but honestly forgot about it. I will watch it at some point but it's not as high on the list at the moment.

Rumors swirling that rebels will be picked back up once clone wars is done. Not going to really be rebels per say but the continuation of ezra's story with ashoka and sabine looking for him.

They really do seem to be sitting on a gold mine with ashoka as well. I didn't realize how fiercely popular she was. Fans are fantasy booking Rosario dawson for the live action version of her and I can say that wouldnt disappoint me. However, I'd say it's pretty plausible for her voice actress, ashley eckstein, to do it as well.

Yeah, I've heard both Rosario Dawson and Brie Larson mentioned.

I know Ashoka got a lot of flak when Clone Wars started, but she is pretty high on my all time character list.

Ashoka still being alive in Rebels and still a question mark after Rebels irritates me. Mando has to run into Luke. Like there is literally not an option here. Maybe at the end of the run, but it has to happen. Ashoka should stay dead.

Please no. Brie Larson needs to stay the fuck away from Star Wars.

It’s a big galaxy, seems like there are a lot of options. It would be cool to see Mando bring Baby Yoda to Luke’s school

She isnt dead as of now anyways. Filoni more or less confirmed it. Her nor Ezra's story has ended. Ezra's is intriguing now because we know Jarrus was dead but ashoka still spoke to rey but Ezra did not.

So much goodness still left in star wars

So they have changed the story again in the TRoS novel. Rey's father was a failed clone of Palps. So does that mean that Palps was her father and grandfather, and that Snoke was her uncle? Jerry Springer couldn't think this shit up.

The novel that was suppose to clear everything up has made it worse. I firmly believe they are going to disavow this. It also means Rey is part clone, now it explain how Luke knew she was a Palpatine, because Luke is are bit off in the Force and part of a reason not to train her, but he does anyway for like three days. This entire sequel trilogy is an example why you have an A to B to C main plot instead of this chef salad story telling where every chef thinks the other one sucks

Snoke was a nothing. He legit had no part in the bloodline as he was created as a potiential host body from nothing.

There are rumors there are more to this story we could see played out in the mandalorian . We shall see. I need to go read the excerpt from the book that's out online now about the son being a clone.

Why bother? Just make up some bollocks in your head about what you think the plot was - it'll be better than what they came up with.

They could have combined the Thrawn Trilogy, the Dark Empire comics, and The New Rebellion, and made an amazing sequel trilogy. I'm glad Bob Iger fucked off. Jeremy from Geeks + Gamers thinks he is running for Prez in 2024. I don't care what he does as long as he isn't ruining our childhoods with his virtue signaling and identity politics. Now whoever is in charge at Disney needs to tell Kathleen Kennedy to do fuck off a cliff.

Stomach most of it? What is wrong with you? Clone Wars and Rebels are both universally accepted as being as good a Star Wars product as there has been since the original trilogy.

Watched all of Rebels last year and loved it. Brilliant show.

Spent the last few weeks doing my first run-through of Clone Wars, after only seeing a couple of episodes here and there. Completely caught up now. I enjoyed the recent Ahsoka episodes and look forward to the Siege of Madalore. For me, season 3 is far and away the best season. You have the great ARC Troopers episode with the attack on Kamino, the Nightsisters episodes with Ventress and Savage, the fantastic Father/Son/Daughter episodes and exploring the grey areas of the war when Padme tries to make a pact with the Separatists. Other seasons have great moments like Maul's return and Yoda's trials, but are weighed down by arcs about minor/annoying characters that should have been single episodes.

Really enjoying The Mandalorian. Just feels like it's part of the universe and I like the minimalist, stripped-back style. The timeframe gives them plenty of room to manoeuvre with the character and plot, whereas I'd be worried about an Obi-Wan show being boxed in by what comes before and after it.

These Ashoka episodes are trash. Like just get to the Mandalorian stuff instead of wasting time with the mentally challenged street kid and her awful sister. I'm sure we will get the Mandalorian and Ashoka connection, but there were better ways to get there. Ashoka being in Mandalorian is going to bring that show to a halt because it will be about her and not his story which has been fantastic.

It was all in keeping with her character. She realised that she can’t give up acting like a Jedi and now she’s going to Mandalore to fight for them and challenge an enemy of the Jedi.

I don’t see Ahsoka being a main character in The Mandalorian. Maybe three or four episodes. There’s nothing to suggest things will grind to a halt. She has a built-in story with the Mandalorians, Mando has an obvious reason to be antagonistic towards her and she can ask the questions we want to be asked about Baby Yoda since she has served with the actual Yoda throughout the Clone Wars. Her appearance makes a lot more sense than Mando running into Luke, as some fans have wanted. They have deliberately gone down a Wild West route with this show instead of just giving us live-action ancient Jedi which would have also been awesome. They’re not going to throw that away - they’re just wisely connecting their shows after the runaway success of the MCU.

Ashoka should be dead at least that is what happens in Rebels. The fans want Luke is very much alive in Mandalorian, because he is very much alive. The fact that Cars who is from Alderran of all places had no idea what a Jedi is troublesome.

You really didn't watch all of Rebels if this is your honest take...

Like or don't like whatever you like, that is how opinions work. But at least look things up if you don't know what happens to a character.

Also, the idea of a vast majority of the galaxy not knowing Jedi seems pretty common. We as the audience were in the thick of the narrative. I think Force Awakens does a good job of showing people who "thought they were a myth."

A character like Cara (not Cars) not knowing Jedi isn't all that troubling. I don't think Luke would run around to everyone in the Rebellion saying "I'm a Jedi, check out my laser-sword!"

During the prequels, the Jedi were not as large of a force as they once were. Hell, we are getting a book series where they are being touted as "at the height of their powers"

In our world, let's use WWII as an example. This would be like a regular citizen seeing Rommel, Monty, or Patton on the battle field.

Years of trying to purge the galaxy of Jedi probably led not only to hunting them down but also a massive effort to destroy any evidence of their existence in the first place not to mention propaganda efforts to try explain/ dismiss those "hokey religions"

We have to remember that the star wars galaxy is a very large place, and we spent time with a specific set of people.

It's big, but it's not big that no one would know the guy who blew up a Death Star and who deemed himself to be a Jedi Knight. Luke in cannon is the poster boy for the Rebellion.

Luke would be well known for sure. But he didn’t start training until years after he blew up the Death Star, so a majority of people who heard of him wouldn’t connect him to the Jedi. After Return of the Jedi, I’m sure plenty of people would know he is a Jedi.

Also, the size of the galaxy is 100,000 light years in diameter according to Wookiepedia so it is big enough that a majority of people have probably never even heard about the Star Wars at all.

Obi-Wan joining the fight and Ahsoka making her way down to the planet on top of various gunships felt like scenes you would see in the films. Really enjoyed the episode.

It's crazy how much anakin felt for ashoka and by the next time they meet he would blindly kill her. If anything they need to just make a vader series once and for all. I've read some of the comics but give me it just like this please.

And an Ezra/Sabine/Ahsoka follow-up series to Rebels, please. It feels weird that they're winding down the animated shows when Disney+ needs new content. Hopefully they'll see the error of their ways.

The latest episode was wonderful. So many parallels to The Clone Wars movie with the opening scene.

I'm so pumped for the final episodes.

This was a good episode of Clone Wars, I just wish we didn't know everyone's fate thanks to Rebels.

I think there are far more interesting things outside of who lives and dies at the end of this arc.

There is definitely hints out there that there will be more animated shows like clone war/rebels.

I hope so. I wasn't the biggest fan of Resistance when it first started, but it definitely improved. Maybe they can eventually get a high republic animated show after the first slate of stories come out as books/comics.

That was a great. This season was a bit fragmented and hadn't really clicked into place yet, but it certainly seems like it's going to now. Definitely still want to see more of the animated series bridging the gaps.

Quite surprised that Disney haven't made a game featuring Ahsoka yet, she's such a fan favourite and interesting character who doesn't have a fully defined path, so there is plenty to explore with her, plus she's a popular female character, seems like there is so much mileage. I've just started playing the Fallen Order game and it feels really strong, would be happy to have more.

Jesus, why do you even bother watching the show? You're joyless.

Yeah, it doesn't have the depth of Clone Wars or Rebels, but I still enjoy it.

I bought the new Star Wars. Loved it. Obviously there are things that happened or weren't explained very well that for all we know will be explained in episode 25 down the road or some episode of Clone Wars you grown ass adults watch religiously that might touch on certain things.

The best ever is still Empire.

Don't you listen to music? I mean you have just admitted you watched the movie which like the animated series is a form of art and storytelling.

I think it was more a comment about Star Wars using other mediums to correct mistakes. It is a fair criticism, but I have no issue since I'll read/watch other stuff within the universe.

After watching Rise again...I think that if you change out Palpatine telling Kylo to kill Rey to bring her to me as well as the fleet having Death Star laser plus someone out right saying Palpatine is a clone, it will be better. I would also get rid of Palpatine force lighting the fleet and actually have Finn and Poe beat it. Also remove the kiss like first edit.

Superb episode this week. Easily one of the best lightsaber duels of the animated shows. The choreography and movements, especially with Maul, were so crisp. He’s being used in a really smart way, knowing that something huge is happening and realising that Anakin is the big bad before his friends do. Order 66 could be on the cards next week given that Obi-Wan is off to fight Grievous now, so it’ll be interesting to see how Ahsoka and Rex react when everything goes to shit.

With the fact we get 1 episode Friday and the last one on Monday I am gonna try to avoid spoilers and watch both back to back

I legit went school girl giddy when Obi Wan told Ashoka Dooku was dead. The way they are placing the timing and the whole Order 66 is outstanding. Its unreal how they are doing twists and turns that just boggle your mind when you think you know what is going on.

They are doing a wonderful job with these last episodes. I like the touch points to keep in line for where we are in the Revenge of the Sith timeline. Apparently Ray Park came in and did some mo-cap for Maul, and it really shows.

New Star Wars movie with Taika Waititi directing. They also confirmed a new series from the makers of Russian Doll.

Great finale to The Clone Wars as well. The argument that stories cannot be good "because we know what happens to characters" is null and void.

Eww and eww. Guess we're getting more Star Wars w/ deadpan stares and dry, awkward humor.

Thor: Ragnarok was one of the only Marvel movies I enjoyed, so hopefully I'll finally enjoy a Star Wars film again.

The Clone Wars finale was good. Takia directing is a great move however, we have to know what he is doing. I am also leary, because Kathleen Kennedy just mows through creative people til she just goes back to a bigger named director. If it's Luke doing a Jedi Academy movie before Awakens and we can nix Rise then I'm all for it.
