Even if you don't give a damn about the victim of the abuse, that alone is enough reason to fire Meyer. Either way Mrs. Meyer should absolutely lose her job, there's proof that she knew and she also works for the university I believe. The reputation of a rich, powerful man should be of a lot less concern to you than the safety of a woman with a history of being victimized by another rich, powerful man. If that doesn't make sense, maybe take a step back and try to gain some perspective.
I am quite aware that my desire to not judge a situation until the facts come out put me on an island alone. I am quite fine with that. Don't know why other people are scared of that island. It was the island that this country was built on for over 200 years. But it is quite clear that is has become very lonely the last 20 years here.

I just hope you remember your attitude next time someone makes an allegation against you.

If Urban covered up for the abuse, he should be gone yesterday. But so far, he did not. The issue was reported to the AD and referred to the PD as well. I don't think he has to go just because someone on his staff committed abuse.

His reputation? What do you think it was like even before this? Did you follow him at all when he was at Florida?

Smith is a scumbag no doubts. But courts still give money to scumbags if you say things you can't prove.

Looking towards the games tonight (Woo Hoo!), I am really looking forward to watching…Purdue and Minnesota?!?

But I am. Two great young coaches in year two. Have had a full season with their teams. Expecting nice seasons from both of them.

I only expect about 7 wins too. But they could still be one of the more fun teams in the Big Ten. I always get excited by freshman QBs.

The thing is I don't think he is starting because they think he is good and the future. He is starting because PJ failed to sign a QB this year aside from the transfer who lasted 3 weeks.

11 years ago today App State beat Michigan in the Big House. Flash forward to today and they have the lead on Penn State in Happy Valley with the half approaching.

Winning in OT at Home to App State should be just as bad as a loss in the committee's eyes.

I have to say I am with Saban in finding the media's obsession with Tua vs Jalen to be very annoying.

What do they expect Saban to say/do? Say Jalen is the backup and won't be playing? How does that help anything?

Saban is a bitch. Of course, they are going to ask about the QBs when you do something as stupid as the two QB system. Alabama has this locked in anyway since they refuse to travel to tough stadiums other than Auburn. LSU is a shadow of it's former self and Georgia magically not being scheduled again.

Anyway, Notre Dame and Auburn passed hard early tests. I was with PSU fans and they were happy they won, but have written off the season.

Maryland is 2-22 against ranked teams since 2011. Both win coming against Texas. But every year we have to hear about how Texas is back.

If the playoffs started today based on one week of work here is my playoff. I will update each week based solely on games already played. Obviously this will change significantly in the early weeks.

    1. Notre Dame
    2. Auburn
    3. Virgina Tech
    4. Alabama

how does Notre Dame get number 1? I am confused at your rankings. How is VA tech number 3? because they beat ranked teams? wouldn't auburn be number 1 then because they beat the higher ranked team?

Same way the NCAA committee does it. Eyeball test and who you beat. VA Tech's defense looked great against a much hyped offense. Auburn, while playing well against a high ranked team also benefited from a late call. I also did not feel they played as complete of a game as Notre Dame. LSU is probably next on my list. Teams like Georgia and Wisconsin get little respect from me with their game one opponent thus judging off of one day I do not feel I can put them on my list. I am just one guy watching a lot of game. From what I saw this was how I rank them. Also I feel like the more important thing is to get the right 4 teams.

What 4 teams are on your list?

The early season rankings are so foolish in the first place. It is great to hype up games early in the season, but at the end of the year Virginia Tech defeating Florida State may not be impressive at all. What if Florida State ends up as a 6-6 team. Beating them in a conference game, although on the road, doesn't seem so important then. I don't think it is worthy of them almost getting to the top 10 in the polls or certainly up to number 3 in this week 1 playoff scenario by you.

They really should give it a few weeks before doing any type of rankings. Again, I know that would be bad for business and bad for tv, but is LSU beating Miami impressive? Same for Virginia Tech beating Florida State. We don't know. Miami and Florida State could easily end up being mediocre teams.

LSU and Virginia Tech beat teams with good reputations, but that certainly doesn't mean they beat good teams. Only time will tell.

Again, that is why this ranking reflects only things that have happened. I watched those games. This is how I would rank them. This isn't a predictor of the final rankings as many of the polls seem to do.

Will LSU and Virgina Tech's wins be big news at the end of the year? I dont know but I know that those wins are more impressive than Wisconsin over Western Kentucky or Clemson over Furman.

Next week teams like Georgia, Clemson and USC will have games vs teams that will help their resume.

After week 2 here are my updated rankings. Difficult to do this week because nothing I watched yesterday jumped off the page to me as amazing. VT had their week 1 opponent look like garbage. Notre Dame was unimpressive vs Ball State. Alabama beat another cupcake and at this point they fall out of the rankings. Georgia and Oklahoma beat okay power 5 teams but really dismantled them. (shout out to the late TD by UCLA for the cover for me by the way)

    1. Georgia
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Auburn
    4. Virginia Tech

I think you may be giving Virginia Tech too much credit for that win over Florida State.

Florida State barely beat Samson over the weekend. Isn't Alabama beating Louisville 51-14 equally as impressive, if not more impressive, than VT beating Florida State?

Bama is my 5th team currently. Slight nod to VT for doing it on the road and I thought their defense looked suffocating. I would not throw a big stink if Bama were 4 and VT 5.

Looking ahead to this week LSU v Auburn, Alabama v Ole Miss and Ohio St v TCU will all have big implications.

    Week 4 Rankings:

    1. LSU
    2. Alabama
    3. Ohio St.
    4. Georgia

Clemson is 5. Slight nod to Georgia on their schedule. Oklahoma gets left out because of OT with Army at home. Much like Penn St game against App St. OT at home against an also ran is almost as bad as a loss. (Penn St is hurt worse by this)

Hmm beating the number 3 team on your list? That would rank as the best win of any team all year.

And OT vs App St at home... That would be the worst game played by anyone considered for the top 4 spots.

EDIT: Winner of Notre Dame vs Stanford would probably take over that spot.

For the 1st time a 1 loss team cracks my top 4.

    1. Alabama
    2. Ohio St.
    3. Notre Dame
    4. LSU

Clemson is 5th. I just do not see a single impressive win on the schedule yet. Michigan and Texas are a notch below that. Though if Michigan runs the table I expect them to have a seat at the table.

I'm going to my first 'proper' College game on Saturday. I did two games in Dublin but not really counting them. Going to FSU's Homecoming game against Wake Forest. Both teams are shit and I'll be supporting FSU but that's fine because apparently I'm only allowed to support really shitty sporting teams these days

I am stunned that Maryland is bringing back Durkin.

"Come to Maryland. This time we are serious about not letting your son die during practice. We swear!" is not the most effective recruiting pitch.

I still think Ohio State is going to get the 5 spot even though Oklahoma has played the hardest schedule and beaten more ranked teams. The Big Ten is really the Weak Ten this year. If Alabama loses to Georgia, all of this will be mute and somehow an undeafeted Notre Dame will be left out in the cold for not playing a meaningless champsionship game.

I think it's pretty clear cut right now. If Bama, Clemson, and Oklahoma win they are in.

If Clemson or Oklahoma lose then Ohio State takes their spot.
if Georgia beats Bama and Clemson win then it's Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Bama.

Ohio state should be cheering hard for Bama and Texas to win their games.

I am still stunned that Notre Dame is in this thing. I know that Bama is going to win this thing, but Georgia has built a blueprint on how to beat them or at least keep it close.

I actually like OU's chances more than ND for whatever reason. If OU can get up 14, I don't see them choking away the lead like Georgia did.

My alma mater has hired Florida's former flunky as our new head coach. I was really hoping we would get nearby Ferris State's Tony Annese, but at least this guy has head coaching experience and has a chip on his shoulder. He burned his bridges in Florida, but he did win there and I really hope to see Central Michigan come back to mid-major prominence like we did when we had Brian Kelly and Butch Jones as coaches.

I didn't read any articles I only saw the headline. I assume Urban is out because of the scandal? He is "retiring" (even though he's only 54 years old) as a way to gracefully leave the program?

They are saying it is his health again. Which is probably true. He has looked very sick this season. But the scandal is what caused to health issues so potato…potatoe

Georgia Tech hired Geoff Collins, Temple's HC.
Utah State hired Gary Anderson, their former HC.
Colorado hired Mel Tucker, defensive coordinator from Georgia.
Western Kentucky hired Tyson Helton, offensive coordinator from Tennessee.
Temple is probably going to announce Manny Diaz, defensive coordinator from Miami, as their HC today.

On all the documentaries I've watched on high school QBs, they all live in big houses and drive nice SUVs. Are their high schools paying for that?

Would have to know more about the particular kids/schools.

Lots of these kids have well to-do parents and live in affluent communities. Often many of these powerhouse schools unofficially 'recruit' kids to come play for them.

Conversely though not all high school qbs live in big houses and drive nice suvs.

American Football coaching culture is so bad. I mean that as a general statement. From Hard Knocks to Last Chance U to QB1. All of these coaches just talk at their players. Even worse, they seem to spend hours sat in dark rooms watching tape and being talked at, with zero right to reply.

Surely it can be improved, it's a bad culture.

I can't remember them tbh. I did wonder if there was something sociological about those QBs just being from wealthy families.

Most the elite HS QBs now have private coaching during HS to get as good as they are. They requires a certain level of wealth. I am sure some coaches will go pro-bono for the truly elite athletes but not that many.

True that. The business of amateur-to-pro sports in this country is bananas.

    Private coaches
Out-of-season leagues (aau, 7-on-7, travel teams, etc)
    Sponsorships
    Scouting
    Recruiting
    Marketing

It's a billions of dollars free for all market.

Hate Bama because of Saban leaving the Dolphins high and dry, but that program he's run since he's been there just have to respect the dominance.

Still hate him and by proxy Bama though.

Glad to see in a championship game that has hundreds of different teams as options, we get the same two every year.

    Whatever. Go Clemson.

Maybe this boring ass game will finally get us that 8 game playoff. Pooh, maybe even 16 teams!
