    Rick and Morty

I didn't expect this show to be as good as it is...

It's from one of the co creators of Community...
    Dan Harmon...

Has a 9.3/10 on IMDB (making it the highest rated comedy on that site) and a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes...

I watched the episode "Rixty Minutes" and fell in love...
Has some genuinely disturbing and heart warming moments...
    Anyone else watching this?

I watched the first episode before it aired. I'll catch up sometime, maybe next month when I'm out of town.

    This is fucking amazing.

I watched the first one and hated it, but ploughed through it. It's developed so very well indeed. Lots of great visual gags.

I watched the pilot just for something to do and ended up binging through the entire series. Its a really funny show. Highly recommend. Weird alf didn't like the pilot because the bit where they are running through customs killed me.

Also, there's a fully voiced Rick and Morty point and click adventure game...

TOMORROW! TOMORROW IS WHEN THE THING HAPPENS! DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU'RE READING THIS!

    A Rickle In Time

Having restarted time, Rick, Morty and Summer are in a quantum-uncertain state of existence. An argument between Morty and Summer leads to the creation of two alternate time-lines, which need to be stitched back together fast if the three/six of them are escape quantum collapse. Will Rick manage to pull Schrodinger's cat out of the hat?

The series creators have stated this might be the worst episode they've made. I have a feeling it's going to be way better than they think...

I liked that the creature from the fourth dimension was basically a Langolier in a t-shirt...

The A story with Rick, Morty and Summer was incredible. I don't think I've seen anything like that on tv before, with multiple quantum realities playing out simultaneously. Rick saving Morty at the end coupled with finding and losing religion was great stuff...

The B story was okay. I think it's the most damaged we've seen Beth, and the first time Jerry does something to justify his relationship with Beth in the series. I'm not counting when the world goes to shit and he turns into Rambo...

But it's the A story that carries it. What the fuck am I watching?
A man in four quantum realities trying to kill his other selves after mathematically proving his grandchildren are shit...

Yeah, lampooning reality shows, religion, and pentagon/president situations are pretty played out at this point...
The stuff with Ice T was just weird. No amount of snake holsters in the boot or songs about shitting on the floor are going to fix that...

The only conceptual part I truly enjoyed was Morty grabbing the portal gun, having no idea how it worked, and completely fucking himself. I kind of wish that ended in a darker way, either by Morty dying or finding a parallel universe/family while Earth C137 was subjected to an apocalypse...

The previous four episodes were all balls droppingly incredible though...

This just felt like an episode of a standard animated series. They should have gone super dark with it...

Actually, upon retrospective, I take that back...
Having Morty saved via Deus Ex Machina in an episode where people are misattributing things to God is actually rather brilliant...
It's still the weakest episode of the season so far, sandwiched in between the two strongest episodes of the season...

"The Ricks Must Be Crazy" had everything. Stephen Colbert, Artificial Intelligence, Universes within Universes, Wooden Robot Fights, Penis Head Aliens, Telepathic Spider Peace, Melting Ghost Babies, Rocket Skis, Suicide, Human Transformer Nanobots, Slavery, Conflicting Anti and Pro technology messages and Masturbating to Driftwood...

The B Story was a big hit for me. I loved everything about it...
The mutant bacteria in the ice cream container, terrible penis dilemma, Earth being known for its penis culture, Beth looking at the catalog, Jerry having to pretend to masturbate when the doctor walks in, the alien leader having a heroin addiction that turned out to just be what his species breathes, Werner Herzog as a guest voice, Jerry holding everyone hostage with a prosthetic penis and trying to put his penis in the surgical wound to make everyone like him, Jerry getting shot fifty times...

The inter-dimensional cable was a lot weaker than in Rixty Minutes, but had its moments...

Finally started watching this show after catching the first episode months ago. I just finished Episode 7 and I love it. It's so well-written and has a unique form of dialogue and humor. Definitely can't wait to burn through the rest of it.

I found it on Toonova. It's not on any of the streaming services to my knowledge, though if you have a cable provider, I think you can watch them on the Adult Swim website.

I just spent time reading this entire thread, and I have to say I can't agree with you people...

...there wasn't a single weak episode in Season 2. Or in the show in general. It's all great.

As far as I know, the rumor has been before the end of the year. But upon trying to find any new details, I did find an improvised "mini episode" they just released to tide fans over:

I fully agree with this. Every single episode of season 2 is great. How people find any faults in any episode in season 2 or say it is on a decline is mind-blowing.

To the people that criticized the more recent episodes I have to ask, did you actually watch it? Are you simply basing your opinion off of some critics review? Did you watch it and actually give the episodes your full attention or where you preoccupied while watching it? I've not seen any actual criticisms here other than, and I'm paraphrasing, "I just didn't like it." Imo, the weakest episodes of season 2 was better than the best episodes of season one. As season 2 went on, the show got progressively better and capped it off with an truly epic finale.

"Total Recall" might be my favorite episode.

Reverse Giraffe is such a good gag.

As an aside, my plumbus instruction manual didn't come with my copy of Rick and Morty Season 2, despite being advertised on the box...
But I really don't want to go back to Best Buy and be like "Hey, where's my Plumbus Instruction Manual, assholes?"

Get Schwifty is a fine episode. Principal Vagina is entertaining for the first time in the series, "Ice-T's" role is pretty interesting and has a nice pay-off, and not to mention that The President is voiced by arguably our generation's greatest voice actor, Keith David. It also has two pretty good songs in the episode. "Get Schwifty," while not their best song in the series, is a pretty middle of the road song and not bad by any means. "Head Bent Over" is also an underrated song, but probably because it's so short. I never really noticed the song until my wife admitted it was her favorite song in the show. How she likes it better than any of Tiny Rick's songs I don't understand, but she did open my eyes to how good it is. It's a nice little jam.

I like Get Schwifty. I'd give it a 7/10, which is actually a very good rating(most people's personal rating system is so skewed.) The weakest episode of Season 2? Not by a long shot. I'd say that Auto Erotic Assimilation is easily the weakest episode of the season, but it's all opinion I guess. Rick Potion #9? I think that episode is overrated. It's good and I have no qualms sitting down and watching it. I do prefer the Get Schwifty episode, but not by a huge margin. Also, Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind is the stand-out episode of season one. If you want to compare Auto Erotic Assimilation to Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind, yeah, I'll give you that one.

As mentioned by Beer-Belly, Total Rickall is an exceptional episode. Outside of the Season 2 finale, Total Rickall and Big Trouble in Little Sanchez are amazing episodes and may be the best the show has produced. Point is, with episodes like Mortynight Run( Krombopulos Michael), Total Rickall, Big Trouble in Little Sanchez, Look Who's Purging Now, and The Wedding Squanchers, I cannot for the life of me understand why people in this thread were saying negative things about Season 2 in comparison to Season 1. That's ludicrous to me.

"Get Schwifty" and "Head Bent Over" were reused songs from the Rick and Morty game. Keith David had already voiced Reverse Giraffe, and Dan Harmon's Ice T impersonation has already been used in Harmontown...

The A story in Auto Erotic Assimilation is incredible...
It directly challenges the value of freewill and ends in attempted suicide...

Yeah, Keith David's voice is part of what makes that joke so great. Legendary voice.

I don't really care if "Get Schwifty" isn't as mind-blowingly philosophical as a lot of the episodes are. It was fun humor with some clever bits, and Get Schwifty is catchy as fuck, even if it was reused from the game(where exactly was it used in the game, because I don't remember hearing it at all, and I'm pretty sure I played all of 'em). And also, I thought the Ice-T bit was ludicrous, but hilarious. Just because an Ice-T impersonation has been done before in a different show doesn't mean that it wasn't funny here, especially if you haven't seen the aforementioned Harmontown.

To me, my opinion is the same as stylepoints in the fact that with so many episodes being masterpieces, they can have a couple episodes that are a bit more lazy and just funny for the sake of funny.

That said, I don't think anyone saying those episodes were weak were implying Season 2 in general was a weaker season. I was just stating that I loved all the episodes, regardless of the meaning or the vibe.

That is not stylepoints opinion. His opinion is that all of the first eleven episodes of Rick and Morty are worse than a 7/10 episode...

I don't know where you get that from. At worst it seemed he was saying Rick Potion #9, a loved episode, wasn't as good as Get Schwifty, which he called a 7/10. I don't really see how that translates to the whole season.

EDIT: I guess he did say the weakest episode of Season 2 was better than every episode in Season 1, so you're technically right.

It was an off the cuff remark but I'll stand by it to a degree. The one exception I'll make is Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind. Not only was it a great episode, but it establishes a lot of guidelines on how the show works. Other than this episode, I do believe every episode of Season 2 are better than any given episode of Season 1. That's not a bad thing. The show got increasingly better.

Rick Potion #9, while not a bad episode by any means, I don't understand the universal praise it gets. I have my theories but I won't get into that now. From a viewer standpoint though, the episode was pretty average until the end. I think people remember the great ending and the thought of "amazing episode" is all they came away with. I will say while I do like the episode, simply enjoying it is not the biggest take-away. It's an extremely important episode as we pretty much seen Rick destroy their world and hop in another one. Apparently Rick is a serial world destroyer/hopper. They've dropped hints of it before but to my knowledge this is the first time we've seen it go down.

Whether you like the episode or not, that's your own opinion. I happen to like it and I know of a lot of other people that do as well. Imo, it's the second weakest episode of Season 2, but I still really enjoyed it. I watched, I laughed. I watched it again, same result. I'll watch it in the future and I doubt my opinion will change. Does it make me less refined of a person because I like one of the more low-brow episodes?

A lot of people like to define who they are by what type of music/movies/shows/wrestlers, etc they like. It's like if there is no acclaim behind something then people are afraid to admit they like it. I mean, are we wine tasting here or watching an animated show? So the episode isn't sophisticated and deep. So it doesn't advance the story in a major way or give us any hints for the future? So what? I don't need a critic's stamp of approval to admit I also enjoy the same thing. What I like doesn't define who I am. I think that the internet is really getting into a "define me by my favorite entertainment" habit. I don't think more of someone if they list their favorite movies/shows and every one of them is critically acclaimed. I don't think less of someone if their favorite movie is Pootie Tang. I love Pootie tang!

Besides, It's not like the episode was panned or anything. Lots of other people like it. On the other hand, I've heard a minority say they hated it. Imo, I believe that's because that episode came out right around the height of the show's popularity so people are shunning it. It's the, "I loved this band before they got big" syndrome.

To your point, on my first watch-through, I pretty much saw the series just getting better as it went on. Not necessarily on an episode-by-episode basis of each episode literally being better than the last. But the overall entertainment I got from the show increased with Season 2. Now, a lot of that has to do with stuff they established in the later episodes of Season 1 like the multiple universes and Rick's connections outside of people on Earth. But I still feel like Season 2 raised the bar even farther.

I think something that could contribute to people's opinions about the episodes is how and when they watched it. A lot of the people commenting in here were watching week by week, where I binged through the whole series within the span of two weeks. So I could see how the episodes could be scrutinized heavier without even trying to if you've been waiting an entire week for them to top what they did last.

Well, if anything at least we got some "Head Bent Over" dialogue going. Probably the first time anyone has had an actually discussion about it on the entire internet.

In fact, I would also give it a 7/10...
But 7/10 is fucking low for a Rick and Morty episode...

That episode had so many amazing moments...

Summer turning on the television set to see Mantis monsters covered in human skin that wanted to have sex with Morty and then eat his head...

Principal Vagina's analogy: "You don't bring dead babies to Passover"

Jerry calling himself Mr. Crowbar, and introducing his friend, who is also a crowbar...

    The Ernest Hemingway joke...

The fact that Beth, Jerry and Summer are finally a happy family now that Rick and Morty are gone and the world is destroyed...

Invoking David Cronenberg's name as a noun and verb, and the art in general...

That's not even counting the incredible ending...

How can you not love that episode?

Also, all of the stuff about oxytocin, voles and the use of viruses to modify mating behavior is (very loosely) based on actual science...

I also love that Morty is a complete creep and gets repayed for it one million fold when the entire world creeps on him, and then gets called out at the end for being a creepy rapist, while Rick uses science to coldly explain away/ruin love as a chemical reaction in the brain, which is as disturbingly accurate as it is difficult to think about...

I'm watching it again, and I forgot about the soda. At the beginning of the episode, Rick shakes up a soda can in the fridge and puts it back. After they jump realities, Rick opens the soda can and it doesn't erupt. I also forgot this is the episode with the exchange between Rick and Summer where Rick says either he outranks her or family means nothing...

And that Ernest Hemingway joke might be my favorite joke in the entire series...

I actually didn't believe it and ignored what I thought was bullshit until curiosity got the best of me around 10 pm. I checked out the site and was like, "Well, I'll be goddamned."

There will be people who ignored it entirely and will have to wait until Summer...
I mean, theoretically. Of course this will get leaked all over the place...

But still, conceptually they will have missed it...

Not specifically for this but they are desperate to get back into good graces with the younger market and if they notice a spike in engagement through this who knows

In case you're wondering where the rest of Season 3 is, it took a lot longer to write than they thought it would, and well. They're drawing it...

I love the fact that numerous people fought the urge to switch over to Adult Swim because they thought the season 3 premiere was an April Fools' Day gag.

I've followed Dan Harmon for years, and never miss an episode of Harmontown... he has one of the most unique minds in Hollywood.

it just sucks having to wait until the summer for the rest of the season.

I'm gonna go take a shit...

Finally caught up to the new second ep, and good sh*t overall. Thought it a bit flat at times, but the gags were there as always and I liked the kids both basically adventuring to tell Jerry to grow up and get over it in their own ways. And the boomboom, wordywords was great.

Stoked to have this properly back for a while..

I really liked the story thread with the Morty-bot, and I always appreciate episodes where Summer is part of the adventure. I thought it was a great return. Not one of the best episodes, but a solid average that meets the shows standards with a few story and comedy highlights.. Morty getting the muscle memory injected into his arm was hilarious on so many levels. And this definitely had one of my favorite post-credit scenes.
