It shouldn't have even been as close as it was. That game could have easily turned into a 45-3 blowout

I’d say I agree with you but one tie today is enough for me.

    Quick Notes
    - The AFC South looks very gross but still very winnable for the Colts.
    - Pretty surprising to see the Chargers win primarily with their defense. Herbert looks like he's ready to ascend to an even higher level this season.
    - The Jets really need answers at OL and QB. Big holes to fill but I like what they're doing otherwise.
    - Standout win for the Dolphins. Don't think Tua silenced critics but he did what he needed to do.
    - Things are looking bleak for the Patriots.
    - Didn't believe the Bengals would make it back into the playoffs this season and today didn't make me change my mind.
    - The Packers can start slow and regain form, but this looks pretty problematic for them.
    - The Cards look like they're in big trouble.
    - Looks like AJB is going to fit in incredibly nicely for the Eagles. Really good battle between them and the Lions today. Think the Lions could still be a team to watch this season.
    - Weather may give the Niners a little bit of a pass but that offense looks like it's going to deal with some significant growing pains with Lance in there.
    - Jameis is back, so Jameis is going to be a roller coaster. Good for Michael Thomas and coming out strong today.

I'm not worried about Gb. Both starting OTs were inactive, coming off torn ACLs. When they're both back, that OL is significantly better. As bad as they looked, they looked markedly better than the week 1 version of Gb we got last year against the Saints lol

CeeDee had like 11 guys on him for the whole game. Hope they're ready for a lot more of that. Dallas played hard on defense but you've got to score. Got to.

If you demand $40M a season, you better show the fuck up and ball out every single weekend…

There's something like 9 or 10 qbs right now with an annual average salary of at least $40M, and none of them - not a single one - ball out every single weekend..

    ..sooo what now?

It'll get better when Gallup gets back, slightly. You have to manufacture touches for him, like SF does with Deebo. He can't afford to be schemed out as your WR1, especially in this incarnation of the offense. They did some smart things on offense but Dak wasn't comfortable and they don't know how to properly utilize their dual-RB attack when they're both on the field.

Yeah I continue to be surprised at how little they utilize Pollard in certain situations.

The snaps and routes ran were pretty split. I thought it was smart to put him in the slot like they did. The big problem is he stinks at pass pro so you can't afford to keep him in the backfield on 3rd downs.

Did they just take the ball out of Russell Wilson's hands on 4th and 5 to try and kick a 300 yard field goal?

Maybe the NFL needs to start rethinking the preseason. None of the big names play and then week 1 we get rusty shitty offensive football and all kinds of goofy shit happening. I mean it's fun but kind of insane.

Horrible decision by the broncos coach at the end. Baffling.

64 yard FG should be a last resort, not the choice over a 4th and 5 attempt when you have 1 minute left and 3 timeouts to get closer

Nothing says “We trust our $250M QB” more than opting for a 64 yard FG attempt. On the road. Outside.

Not even just the FG choice. The entire last minute where they did nothing. I would honestly fire him today. There is no way to come back from that. His team won't trust his decision making and neither will the fans. That is a first impression you can't make again

Starting QBs who didn't play in the preseason were 3-8 in Week. And two of the wins were against other QBs who also didn't play (Carr vs Herbert and Cousins vs Rodgers). (The other win was against Joe Flacco)

A 40 million dollar qb doesn't need to exactly "ball" in every single game but he does need to play better than Dak did on Sunday. Although the real issue is deeper than that. I used to give Jerry credit for drafting well and he doesn't draft poorly these days, really. However he doesn't always draft needs over wants either. Not to mention the complete lack of interest in getting other receiving weapons for his team during the off season via free agency.

All of his off season quotes about Zeke seem to indicate that

A - He still thinks Zeke is Zeke.

    B - He still thinks it's 1992

Yes, your better players should ideally play better.

But also guys have bad games. All of them. The overreaction to week 1 has been sorta staggering everywhere. It's like the offseason makes people forget the season itself is a massive 4 month long tug of war that isn't defined after the first 1/17th of action.

As for the Zeke stuff, I think that just boils down to wanting to take pressure off of Dak to not have to chuck it 50 times a game so he can be better positioned to earn his crazy money, meanwhile Zeke isn't terribly far removed from his own wild contract situation that I'm sure Jerry would like to finally see a real return on (whether that can ever actually happen or not) so he can reasonably accept handing out that crazy money.

I don't mean to totally shit on Zeke either btw. That dude runs hard. Still fun to watch sometimes.

As far as betting goes this weekend. These games suck. But the Jags are currently getting +4.5 so that's my game right now.

If your wife is divorcing you because you went back to work chances are is was not that much of a happy family. And he still has unlimited money and unquestioned status.

I'm glad Brady is still playing. And I'm also intrigued by the way it's coming to a head with his marriage/family. While I hope they stay together, I've also heard from people who have worked with Gisele that she's quite eccentric and into a lot of spiritual stuff such as numerology. Someone I know who worked with her said she started their first meeting by asking for the person's birthday and some other numbers to see if they would be a good professional match, and that she often throws her team and business partners for a loop by changing her mind in regard to big projects, like scrapping them completely and switching to something new.

None of this makes her a bad person mind you, and Brady is a nut about football so they're both nutty in their own ways, and both extremely driven and successful, which theoretically made them a good match. But I don't know if their marriage will last forever whether Brady retires now or not. Maybe they are headed for a divorce either way given that they are both such titans of industry, and it's tough to balance with each other.

And I can certainly see Gisele's side of things, I mean the woman is the biggest super model of all time ffs, it's not like she sacrificed something small to be the leader of their family at home while Brady went out and became the oldest player of all time. She did sacrifice. She's the Tom Brady of her profession.

Anyway I find it interesting in the way people are interested in the Royal Family. Gisele's comments in Elle magazine that just came out were notable, not that it's anything we didn't already know, but it basically confirmed the marital strife in a public way.

Tom Brady is not the oldest player of all time. George Blanda is.

And I sympathize with a wife who is seeing her children grow up without a father for a good chunk of the year over a guy who HAS to win his eighth Super Bowl. You can bring up her eccentricities, but wanting her husband to be home instead of continuing to chase glory is not unreasonable. I also don't blame her for drawing a line in the sand. If she divorces him because he was willing to step over that line, then I don't blame her. He's ridiculous for unretiring and stacking up the record books further at the expense of his family.

Speaking of people who liked to unretire, turns out Brett Favre is a massive piece of shit who got involve in a scam to take millions away from poor people in his native Mississippi. Surprised it isn't talked about more, considering who is involved.

Brett Favre texts show his role in Mississippi welfare scandal (nbcnews.com)

I never liked him after the 2008 unretiring debacle, but this just cements what a dirtbag he is. Sad to see the former governor and other government officials that were involved too. Mississippi is already the poorest state in the union, the people there didn't need this.

Brett Favre's biography reads like a long list of reasons he's a shitty human being.

Such a liar. Probably actually spells his name Farve and he just wanted to be cute so he lied.

Super interested in tonight's game. A lot of people are expecting a shootout but I'd bet everyone is pooped after the short week. Sloppy game maybe. Couple turnovers. But close all the way and exciting at the end I hope.

Herbert shouldn't have played there after he was hurt. The touchdown was great, but his throw to nobody when he could've ran 2 yards for the first down was bizarre.

Tough night for LA, what with the 98 yard pick-6 and Herbert getting his ribs broken. The Chiefs offense had a few big plays but overall struggled to get much of a passing attack going. It was a game the Chargers could have easily won, but it ended up in an 'insult to injury' outcome. Hopefully Herbert is okay for the long haul of the season, even if he misses a game or two.

I thought the Amazon broadcast was very good. In the first half I had some issues with the audio being ahead of the video (out of sync), but it seemed to resolve itself by the second half. The squad they assembled is very good. A few of Bezos's billions were put to good use here.

A not thought about aspect of NFL moving to streaming: that might be the one thing that get the nation to seriously upgrade their networking capabilities. People will tolerate their Netflix being lagging. No one will tolerate the NFL being laggy.

I only watched a few minutes of the pre-game show but Richard Sherman and Fitzmagic are both very good on there. As far as pre-game shows go, that could be the strongest group currently. And Tony Gonzalez is good too but he's more buttoned-up vanilla like a Michael Strahan type. If they had hired Kay Adams to host it would have been a 10 out of 10.

    - Dallas is going to have to hope their defense stays healthy because it feels like that's the only thing right now that's going to keep them in games.
    - Chicago doesn't not have a lot of weapons but that doesn't change the fact that they look pretty inept in terms of a pass attack.
    - I'm very interested to see Detroit vs. Minnesota next week. The Lions feel like they've got something building there. Sun God is a problem for the opposition.
    - I can't buy into New Orleans being something with Jameis as their QB. Olave got a lot of sprinting in today.
    - Good thing, for now, the Niners kept Jimmy G. Really stinks for Lance. Now he's essentially going to go 3 years (last full year in college and these two) without substantial time to get reps in.
    - Arizona is good for empty calories on offense.

    - Good for Mike McDaniels. I hope he does well. I still don't know what to make of Tua.
    - The Jets are really a scrappy team. They're probably the Detroit of the AFC. Making progress but they still have a ways to go.
    - The Steelers have a major problem schematically on offense. I don't think Matt Canada is it as a play caller and Trubisky definitely ain't it as a QB.
    - Thought this before the season but definitely believe it when I say Cincy is not making the playoffs.
    - Indy is in massive, massive trouble. They had to do the bare essentials to get through a walkthrough Friday and played like it today.
    - I still think it's possible that the AFC West can get three teams into the playoffs, but it's looking quite shaky on who that third team might be.

Maximum of 6 teams undefeated through 2, maximum of 5 winless. League of parity. With some crazy finishes too. Broncos are the big disappointment thus far, their play calling and clock management has been woeful.

I see the video where the fans are audibly counting down the play clock for the Broncos so they don't get another false start lol.

All the stress from his homelife and football is starting to make TB look like he's auditioning for The Dallas Buyer's Club. He also got minorly involved in that scrap that got Mike Evans tossed.

    That isn’t healthy.

For the life of me, I still don’t understand why he came back last Fall, let alone this August. Dude had the GOAT title in the bag after that Bucs Super Bowl win, has enough money for his grandkids’ grandkids to live comfortably, the smoking hot wife at home.

These past two seasons are merely about ego…

I never bought into the Brady cosmetic surgery rumors but nowadays it’s hard not to wonder about his face. That doesn’t look natural. He shouldn’t need a face lift I mean he eats well and keeps his body thin/fit so idk.

Either way he’s clearly a psycho when it comes to football. The problem is he’s figured out agelessness and can play forever until his knees give out so if your body never stops you and you’re elite still contending for super bowls, why quit at 45?

He’s gotta be done after this year though, and hopefully he and Gisele reconcile. Or if they split then maybe he’ll keep it going for age 46.

    2023 Hall of Fame first-year nominees -

    Joe Thomas
    Dwight Freeney
    Darrelle Revis
    Chris Johnson
    Jahri Evans
    NaVorro Bowman
    James Harrison
    Kam Chancellor
    Shane Lechler

Give me Thomas and Freeney with no debate. Revis I'll take but just not quite the no-brainer.

I want to hear arguments for Bowman, Harrison, and Lechler.

Also some second-year guys that I'd like to restoke the arguments for in Jared Allen, Devin Hester, Andre Johnson, Zach Thomas, Patrick Willis, and DeMarcus Ware

Titans looked like the Titans today. And by that I mean they used Derrick Henry a lot and then barely won after making a bunch of mistakes at the end of the game.

God I wish I had put more money on Atlanta than I did. That 1 point spread was dumb. The Seahawks are not good at all. Idc what they did week 1.

    Quick Notes
    - What a war of attrition between Buffalo and Miami. That early-season weather is a massive advantage for Miami, but all credit to them. They earned this win.
    - New England is a mess. They are trying to find their way in a new offense with Jones and he can't seem to stay healthy right now.
    - Lamar is going to get all of the money if he can stay healthy through the franchise tags.
    - The Brown are going to be very interesting when Watson arrives
    - The Steelers probably need to see what the rookie can do, but it's wise to wait until this brutal portion of the schedule finishes up.
    - Urban Meyer was an utter disaster for Jacksonville. That money for Christian Kirk seems to be paying dividends early. Big test for them next week.
    - Indy really would have kicked themselves if they lost that game today. They really held KC in check, but their offense still seems to be in shambles. Maybe that last drive ignites them going forward.
    - The AFC West is taking it on the chin right now. The Chargers are the walking wounded right now.

    - Philly looks like a wagon right now. Hard to argue against them if you're citing another team as the best-looking team in the NFC. They've got blemishes to correct, but they're hard to stop.
    - Really tough loss for Detroit. They seemed to lose all momentum after they went 14-0.
    - Still don't know what to make of Minnesota. They seem to go as far as Cousins can take them, and that's a scary proposition.
    - Chicago is a mess.
    - As long as injuries don't get worse, feels like Green Bay walks away with that division.
    - Baker Mayfield is a more ornery Sam Darnold. He just doesn't seem like he's a good QB.
    - Injury luck is really working against Tampa. If they can stay upright, that division is theirs.
    - The Rams feel like they're facing way too much adversity early in the season to stay afloat by the end of it.

I think Baker could be good if he played within his limits. He just always has those moments where he just winds it up and goes "IM RODGERS BAYBAY!!" and then gets picked off.

I think I've seen enough to believe he's going to have to figure that out as a backup and hope it clicks during a spot start.

The Lions won't sucker me into watching them, even if the other game I could watch was Houston-Chicago. At least that game didn't make me want to take my fist into the TV, like Michigan State game did (AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!).

Parity is king in the NFL this year. I really think the heat got to the Bills more than the Dolphins did, but Miami is the real deal and the AFC East is going to be a barnburner.

That looked so bad; if the league actually gave a shit about its players, somebody should lose their job. But we all know nothing will happen.

A coach’s job is to protect their players, often times from themselves; Mike McDaniel failed to do that today.

The Mac Jones injury (high ankle sprain... MRI today will reveal severity) is no bueno... but at least it's not a knee tear. Shouldn't be a season ender (knock on wood).

I'm not too crushed because I consider this a bridge year for the Pats. 2023 is the year I will start getting really crushed if things go badly.

Gonna put a little on the Bengals at -3.5 tonight. They're getting right and Miami is due to lose and lose big.

This is inexcusable. Miami needs to be punished for putting Tua in that game. That was sickening to watch.

Well I'm more than glad my bet covered but I was not impressed with the Bengals at all there. The running game is still so messy. Guys tripping over each other and stepping on each other's feet. It takes too long to get the ball to Mixon and play action just goes to shit. If Tua plays that whole game the Dolphins could have won.

That defense is double tough. 70 snaps or whatever Sunday against the Bills and they didn't gas out until that last drive tonight.

If we’re being perfectly honest, that list starts with Mike McDaniel. But because the league and the union are spineless misguided cowards, we’ll get some meaningless public statements and a couple lower level employees thrown under the bus.

Thursday night games that create such a compressed schedule are stupid and unsafe, but it’s all good because a TV network waves a massive cheque around. Making any NFL player, let alone a QB who suffered a head injury, compete in two games in four days as the NFLPA tweets garbage like this https://twitter.com/nflpa/status/157...890352641?s=46 is sickening.

Well the doctor that cleared Tua has been fired.

Honestly I don't think the coach is to blame for trusting in the system. That's what coaches do for a living. Trust in the system.

But the system failed and the system failed badly here. I still cringe at it. Hope Tua is ok.

    Quick Notes
    - I'm not sure what to make of Buffalo right now. Their injuries may be playing a role in things but they needed a growing trend of a second-half breakdown from Baltimore to get going. Davis as a WR2, coming off the AFC Championship game last season, isn't taking.
    - Seems like they're going to be plenty of growing pains with Wilson at the helm with New York. They've got so much talent but there's no discipline there.
    - Heck of an effort from New England. They may have gotten too conservative on offense as the game went along, but the effort as a whole was solid.
    - Can't imagine Pittsburgh convincingly feels good about going back to Trubisky if they do so.
    - Jones may play a bigger role than most may have thought for Jacksonville's offense. The weather didn't help their cause today. I think their stock is still trending up.
    - Indy's OL is a massive mess and now they're potentially in a world of hurt with JT dealing with an injury.
    - Henry getting more of a load in terms of target share is a surprise but it seems to be working. Hoping the rookie is okay.
    - The West continues to be confusing.

    - Gallup debuting certainly helped spread the defense out a bit more, thus opening things up for the rest of the pass catchers. Diggs has really improved as a defender.
    - The Giants have a great record but they seem injured as hell right now.
    - Eyebrows were raised a bit with Hurts. He finally dealt with notable pressure and the old tendencies started returning. They have enough talent on offense to stay afloat, but he's got to show he can handle the pressure.
    - I really don't know what to make of Green Bay's defense.
    - Detroit's energy on offense is extremely absent when it comes to defense. Goff seems to be okay and fitting for the attack, mainly due to a good OL.
    - Rhule has to be awfully close to be out in Carolina. Mayfield isn't the answer there, either.
    - Kingsbury might be stealing money from Arizona.
    - No Wilson, but Smith seems to be doing decently leading the charge on offense for Seattle.

I am 1-2 so far on the 3 picks I have posted in here. Need to get back above .500. Some early week 5 picks:

    Bucs -8.5 (vs Falcons)
    Patriots -3 (vs Lions)

I did well with my Cowboys and Bengals picks last week but that still doesn't get me near even from that ass week one. Haven't had time to look at all the lines yet but I think I like your Pats pick. I might put the Bucs in a teaser to get them to -2.5 but the Falcons are sneaky good.

Ok yeah I like the bucs in a teaser with the Packers to get them to -2.5 and -2 respectively.

And I'm putting money on the Steelers at +14. They'll lose but I think by more like 6 than 14.

Ugly win for the Colts but the key word there is win, which they desperately needed. Matty Ice did not look good until the final drive and OT.

Hines stumbling around was scary to see. Thankfully they got him off the field ASAP.
