Mace and T-Bar splitting hopefully means they're ditching the gimmicks and can get something better for themselves.

If you haven't seen it yet, Manny really steals the show in the second one.

    Dirty not recording his score.

Also doing an entire Norm McDonald joke while playing that's appropriately met with crickets.

UUDD’s a great platform to show lower-mid carders being themselves. Omos is quite a funny fucker on there which we don’t get to see on TV.

Rusev/Tong Po were like two different people!

The first pick should have been the Bloodline, not just Roman. But they apparently wanted some storyline drama with Heyman having to go to Raw now to help influence the Smackdown decision to draft the Usos.

Whoever they have Heyman talk to on Raw, that is, whoever is responsible for making the picks, has some 'splaining to do.

Sami Zayn is much more entertaining than anyone not drafted yet. But he must be in the doghouse again because he won't be going to Saudi Arabia.

Announcing additional picks on Talking Smack is dumb, because they went out of their way to tell us that the draft would continue on Raw.

What's the backstory with Edge shouting out FTR? Am I missing some sort of relationship the 3 of them have?

Yes, they helped him train for his comeback and are good friends with him.

SmackDown faces: Drew, Kofi, Nakamura, Cesaro, Xavier, Ricochet

SmackDown heels: Roman (c), Sheamus, Ridge (probably?), Corbin, Sami, Jinder

I posted the above in the RAW thread, feel this is a more appropriate place for it.

Beyond Roman/Drew and Kofi as the #2 face, there are a lot of questions to be had. Very curious as to how the KOTR tournament plays out, am really pulling for King Xavier.

I'm actually more disturbed by Sonya Deville being asked how she would've handled the situation when she was on The Bump. That's about as fucking tone deaf as you can get.

I've been waiting for Zayn to face the elder Mysterio as it should be a great match. They're finally doing it tonight as a KOTR qualifier.

I actually dig Seth's jacket. The shirt, though, literally made my eyelids twitch. Where in the holy hell is he finding these things?
Roman shutting down Suplex City chants was smooth. Heyman giving a spoiler was interesting. As far as I can recall, he's never lied about any of those. So it would be a great time to do it if he actually does betray Roman, because his word has been built up for so long. I can't see them doing it at Crown Jewel, though.
I've never had a problem with Carmella, but the whole mask gimmick now just makes me roll my twitchy eyes.

EDIT: THEY JUST WANT TO PISS PEOPLE OFF ON PURPOSE

The KOTR hasn't been the same since the 90s. There should be qualifying matches and a reward besides a cheesy crown and they should have all 3 rounds in one night not just the last 2. Also, I would do rankings based off of who wins their matches the fastest in the qualifying round. Why didn't Nak compete in the tourny and defend his crown?

I can already hear Cole yelling at Crown Jewel "He was the PRINCE and now he's THE KING!!!"

After guys like Ford and Bálor had to job to furniture/props over recent weeks, the ladies weren't putting up with that. They were tossing and breaking lots of stuff. Bianca had a tough time with the chair at first but she more than made up for that for getting Sasha and Becky up for the KOD, then a really fun visual to see her hit the KOD on Becky through Sasha and the table. Opening segment didn't accomplish a lot, but that athleticism helped make up for that. That tease of the dual KOD probably gets paid in full at the PPV.

Good Hit Row vignette. I'm curious to see how they are presented. Honestly, it seemed like their arrival in NXT to aid Scott established a heel turn but the crowd ate them up.

Heyman had to do too much talking during The Bloodline segment but he was good and the segment was good. I do like the fact they didn't go right to the hard cam to have Heyman put Lesnar in his place. My question for this run for Reigns is: Can he actually have a reign long enough to where he turns over the course of it? Granted they were in the Bay Area and that area is going to love them some Samoans, but Reigns isn't getting booed as much as he was a few months back.

If you don't know McAfee's vernacular, you missed the good bit before Happy Talk where he said the segment was the perfect time to take a dump. Instead, KO got dumped on. He came out for comeuppance and ended up getting wrecked. The Street Profits were announced to be in the segment but while KO was getting attacked, they were nowhere to be found. Sucks for KO.

Naomi vs. Sonya next week? I'm down for that.

The groundwork for the Queen's Crown bracket certainly has been established conveniently based on interactions lol. Kind of a bummer to see Toni go out in Round 1, and it's quite wild to see a sudden win streak emerge for Zelina. That said, the Code Red finish for Zelina was pretty dang cool. I hope we are finally done with Liv and Carmella after this. I have no fathomable idea as to why you'd have Zelina and Carmella both win, especially with the fact that meant Liv lost. I guess they don't like the idea of elevating Liv right now? Seems like the road is paved for the Queen of Spades to earn the Queen's Crown.

An eight-man field feels a little underwhelming but I can appreciate most of the acts in there. They certainly teased a wild second-round matchup between Woods and Kingston. I had high hopes for Zayn and Mysterio. For a TV match, they definitely delivered. It's wild how good Mysterio looks at 46. The disfunction continued between The Mysterios. We'll see how long they drag it out for. I guess the working story is just that God decided Bálor wasn't going to win at Extreme Rules. They at least acknowledged that The Demon had something weird happen to him there but that's about it haha. Cesaro and Bálor had a pretty good match for 10 minutes, with a commercial break included. Wrestlemania seems like a long time ago for Cesaro. If they decide they don't want the prophecy to be fulfilled for Woods, I wouldn't be surprised if we get this tournament leading to a Bálor turn and being a primary foil for E.

Edge was super late to work but I don't mind the fact he challenged Rollins to Hell in a Cell. That's a proper escalation to how this feud has been going and I though other than his tardiness, Edge responded appropriately after how last week went. Should be fun.

To bring back the KOTR and create a women’s tournament, only to have them rushed to completion in less than two weeks? Weird. With questionable booking to boot? Weak.

Cesaro needed the win more than Finn.

No arguments for the women's point but I think you can make a case for Bálor needing the win more. The guy is basically getting pushed to the side after a high-profile match, using his special gimmick. You can make a similar point with Cesaro minus the gimmick. I referenced how Cesaro is on a major downswing after Mania but that's his big moment. Bálor's big moment is being pushed to the moon right after being on NXT. There's still equity in that because Bálor is a bigger star than Cesaro so you need to find something to maintain it, and there are wrinkles that can be established after this tournament that can rehab his character. Sadly, it appears Cesaro's fate in WWE has been written and staying on the same brand with the same top star indicates they know what they've got in Cesaro and they're totally fine with that.

No offense to Zelina or Carmella, but to have them both cleanly go over Toni and Liv is odd. I get that a heel winning that the tournament is likely (and honestly, a heel can probably run with the Queen gimmick better than a face), it just seemed like this could have been an opportunity to finally pull the trigger on Liv's momentum. Let her have a real banger of a match with Shayna in the finals, where even in defeat she looks good. Or highlight Toni Storm, or even include women like Shotzi, Tegan Nox, Mia, Aliyah, Naomi, Sonya, Xia or even Dakota who is I believe technically is a free agent for the main roster (look, I just doubled the tournament by including 8 more women).

This inconsistent booking and two minute matches neither serve the women (presently or in the long term) nor the tournament. For a company that obnoxiously tries to take all the credit for the boom in women's wrestling (rightfully so in many cases, too, mind you), this is "total divas era" bullshit.

Or have Liv win, and just as she's about to cry and than the fans for not giving up on her, Charlotte attacks her, ala Jerry Lawler on Bret Hart, and say there is only ONE QUEEN in the company. Really, this shouldn't be that hard or aggravating.

After the rope bullshit from the ppv, why would I ever watch a Balor match again? If falling off the top rope is so devastating, how can he even be a contender for anything? And I've long since given up on them doing anything with Cesaro.

He should still be able to win it back though. They just don't see any more life in that gimmick, I guess.

Instead of battling in a tournament, he could just do what he did to get it in the first place again lol,

Going back to the 90's, what exactly did people get for winning KOTR? What did Austin get for winning KOTR 1996? A Free for All match against Yokozuna at Summerslam lol.

How many times has the prior KOTR been in the following tournament to defend his crown? Pretty much never.

Cesaro didn't NEED the win. Speaking of the 90's, imagine 1993 KOTR. Did Bret Hart need to win? Nope. Bam Bam needed it more than Bret.

Ask yourself this....Did you really want to see a 15 minute match between Carmella and Liv Morgan?

I grew up in the eras where tv matches were typically short. Even after jobbers were abolished, go back and watch Nitro and Raw. You didn't get too many matches going more than 5 minutes. I take more issue with seeing a ppv match going 2-3 minutes than something on Smackdown.

On one hand I agree, this is some divas era shit, but on the other hand, look at the competition we're speaking on. Toni Storm v. Vega, imo, should've had more time. Liv v. Carmella? Personally I think Carmella is one of the worst talents in the company so I was more pissed off she won than anything lol. It's hard for me to imagine Carmella was back there hoping for 20-30 minutes.

Carmella is Money. The most beautiful woman in all of WWE. But she needs someone male to play off. Reggie. R-Truth. James Ellsworth. Big Cass and Enzo.

I look forward to seeing her every week, and eventually when she makes it to the Hall of Fame. She won't be a headliner but she will probably get in.

I'm not one who wants to trash women's wrestlers looks on the internet. Because its fucking dumb. Even someone who I find less attractive, typically is very athletic or has some great features. And honestly, just what's the fucking point...not every character on a tv show has to be hot.

But selling Carmella just based on looks doesn't work. Not that she's unattractive. She is very fit, etc. She's just bjectively not in the top most attractive in the show for everyone outside of 3 puppies and Corey Graves. Like for me I have her behind a decent number on both rosters, but even for those who have her higher, you're just not going to rank her better than some of the most attractive. if it was at all tongue in cheek, or people played it differently it might work. but when people like Liv just play it straight up, it just doesn't work.

I hope the pups take is tongue in cheek. otherwise, he makes Nash's Peyton Royce takes look very reasonable by comparison.

Haha, I love your hate for Carmella, it truly makes me smile and chuckle. No, I agree, it's not like I wanted to see a 15 minute match between those two. Especially Carmella; I don't loath her, but the accolades she has over other women who are heads and shoulders better is baffling. But having their match go 4 minutes or so, and Toni and Zelina getting 5 would have been so much better. The women having a Queen of the Ring style tournament for the first time in company history and the first two matches being a combined total of 3 1/2 minutes is just a real shitty look.

And hearing Corey Graves figuratively nut everytime she comes to the ring on RAW afterwards? Cringe…

Because I'm weird I went and looked up the amount of time the original 1993 KOTR qualifying matches received. With the exception of Mr. Perfect v. Doink most of the matches were around the 2-4 minute mark. I do remember those awesome Perfect/Evil Doink matches that would go to a draw then another draw, finally Perfect got the W.

So yeah, maybe they should've done something to jump start it that it wasn't going to be that easy to get to the next round. They weren't even squash matches it was just back and forth then boom over. Very odd.

The age hotness bar has really raised.

Salma Hayek is 55. Shakira. Jlo. Halle Berry. The Mona Era compared to now is like comparing the Mikan Era centers to the centers in the 90s.

Might as well have been playing a different game

I was quoting her character. I do think she is very attractive, made all the more so by the fact that she understands what wrestling is supposed to be for the audience. She "gets it" on the mic far more than most of the active roster - and the fact that Bayley, Alexa Bliss, and Asuka are all inactive now means she is that much closer to the top, now trailing arguably Becky and Charlotte, with EST an up and comer who will probably surpass her before her career is over. For me, a huge part of the enjoyment I find while watching WWE women comes from whether or not I cringe when they are handed a mic.

I don't think it's arguable that she trails Becky and Charlotte as far as being at the top of the roster.

Bianca and Sasha are definitely higher as well.

Now that we only have 1 tag-team for the women, which is a terrible fucking tag-team to begin with, I'd like to know who people think will be paired up after the draft goes into full effect.

    I have no idea.

Considering how random the teams usually are, you could just pick names out of a hat and get close to what they come up with.

Just to further drive point the home that it seems the Queen's Crown is just a throwaway tournament:

    Zelina vs Toni: 2:10
    Liv vs Carmella: 1:40
    Doudrop vs Natalya: 3:00
    Dana vs Shayna: 1:25
    Total: 8:15

    The KOTR, by comparison, is:

    Rey vs Sami: 8
    Cesaro vs Finn: 11:25
    Xavier vs Ricochet: 10:55
    Kofi vs Jinder: 8:55
    Total 39:15

As Nash pointed out, no I do not want to see Liv and Carmella have a 15 minute match. But it would be nice to have even ONE match go to the 5 minute mark. *long and exhausted sigh*

OK, back to my cave for five months.

I like Liv just fine. And while slow and dangerous behind the wheel, Carmella can still serve a purpose in society.

That's a very nice way of saying Carmella doesn't deserve to die.

I like jovial and relaxed Brock Lesnar; in limited moments, he’s actually pretty good on the mic.

I would be absolutely shocked if Brock takes the strap. The reason we’re seeing jovial and relaxed Brock is because he knows he’s about to hop on a private jet, work ~20 minutes, collect a massive payday then hop right back on that private jet. In the peak of his career, he despised the weekly grind of being a WWE superstar/champion, right now that’s probably one of the last things he wants.

Roman’s going over in Saudi Arabia, due to interference from the Usos and/or Paul E; both Roman/Brock keep their heat, the seeds for those two down the road in a cage/HIAC gets planted. The ultimate “Break Glass When Needed”.

The fallout from the doubt in Roman’s mind about Paul E’s loyalty probably bought the company another year creatively with Reigns holding the strap.

OT: Pat McAfee is absolute money. Don’t fuck this up, Vince.

Reigns was so, so good at the start of the show. During this run of his return there's been very few times where he hasn't been sharp but when he's locked in like he was here, he absolutely validates McMahon's belief of shoving this guy down our throats because he can be the star. The line, which wasn't factual, about Reigns beating Lesnar so bad that Lesnar started tweeting was so funny. I guess Cesaro gets the smallest rubs possible because Lesnar eased up when Cesaro was in front of him haha. Good out to have the violence and damage Lesnar conducted present a means to "suspend" Lesnar. Makes sense to use that hook to keep him off TV until Mania time or later. Even more kudos to take it even a step further and have Lesnar come out and question it and F5 Pearce out of his damn pants haha. This Lesnar is a $$$ Lesnar. The only partial negative of this was that it essentially took up 25 percent of a two-hour show. It's partial because all of it was entertaining but it didn't leave a lot of room for everyone else.

Too soon to tell if that new Zayn theme slaps or not. Regardless, it's pretty jarring that he has new music. For no heat and moderate time, Zayn and McIntyre had a pretty entertaining match.

Hail King Woods. All that needs to be said. Well, why wasn't their a coronation segment this week for Zelina?

We'll see how long Xia gets vignettes before she actually shows up. Part of me feels dubious in thinking the length of the vignettes will be longer than she actually gets time on Smackdown.

TV rematch between Ali and Mansoor was not really much of anything but a pleasant surprise to see Mansoor get another dub.

Like the subtle rollout of the new characters coming to Smackdown, and like that Sheamus knows he's above that due to the fact he's been on top of his game over the last year-plus.

Good to see that, for now, Hit Row was presented as is in a general sense from what we saw of them in NXT. They're not going to be everyone's cup of tea but they've really got a lot of potential as a group. They have a very good presence, and there's good charisma with all of them. Top Dollar got to show off that World's Strongest Wasteland, which was nice. Give these guys a few weeks of jobber wins and then keep building them up.

I'm okay with more Happy Corbin matches because that means there's less time for Happy Corbin and Madcat Moss to talk, and McAfee is going to trash talk them the entire time during the match. Problem appears to be that they're running a flat circle with Nakamura and Corbin.

I groaned when I read earlier in the day that the closing segment was going to be a title exchange. I'm quite surprised it was just a straight-up swap. Shocking no one, Sasha/Charlotte appears to be the placeholder program until we get to Survivor Series.

Lesnar being Austin-like and speaking for himself too is big bucks. I always thought he was understated on the mic when they gave him a chance.

Something I didn’t expect to see when I looked into it: Since Mania 35, Lesnar is 5-4 in his singles matches.

    SummerSlam 2019 to Seth Rollins
    WrestleMania 2020 to Drew McIntyre
Crown Jewel 2021 to Roman Reigns

I’m drawing a blank and missing that fourth loss. Those three all involved a championship belt and the biggest names in the company, which is pretty damn impressive for a part-timer even considering Lesnar’s name recognition and resume.

Prior to Mania 35, Brock lost to Roman at SummerSlam (2018), again involving the title.

Not including singles, Lesnar’s lost more tbf.

Also think he could be including the Mania loss to Rollins there.

Anyway, apparently some title exchange went down and the girls all got into an argument backstage. Haha. From the way it sounds in THE SHEETZ, Charlotte is very particular about her image and didn’t like this at all

Part of the report also paints Charlotte in a positive light, citing that she wanted to drop the belt to Bianca on Monday so there's that too.

She’s a Flair, so being overly protective of her character wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

But here, she’s absolutely right: the company (Vince) painted itself into a stupid little corner with the draft and the immediate booking of the two women’s titles.

FWIW, a title unification would be a terrible idea.

Good to see they spent a good chunk of the episode to help present a new character to the Smackdown audience in Shotzi. You got everything you expected from her: showing some heart, being capable in the ring and also being a little careless in regards to her body. She held her own against Charlotte and got the crowd behind her along the way. Of course, this is WWE so they probably ran through a couple of weeks of programming/storytelling within one show as she turned and attacked Sasha. The reports were that Shotzi was going to be presented as a heel so I guess they were able to justify that turn. It made sense so that's a plus. It just all happened rather fast, is all.

The "you people" promo needs to be knocked out of its existence. I'm pretty sure Ali has said he's never wanted to be a heel just because of his ethnicity but alas, here we are.

Wild that Corbin has been elevated to get pyro for his entrance. Corbin definitely gets the most out of an already animated McAfee (with Lil Wayne references just flying right over Cole's head). Those ghouls were on camera in the background earlier in the match and didn't make a lick of sense, so I'm glad they were ultimately revealed to be Garza and Carrillo. There was a lot going on during the match, to say the least.

McAfee put a fun spin on Shayn's motto: Snap, tap or crap. Not spot on but still fitting. Shame Naomi had the botch but it's not a big deal in the big picture. They're getting some mileage out of the angst between Naomi and Sonya.

Seemed rushed to get to New Day/Usos on Smackdown but they're always entertaining. Guess with it being Halloween and SD on FS1 again, The Head of the Table took the night off.

Interesting to hear the next wave of NXT trial runs via dark matches were Raquel Gonzalez and The Creed Brothers. They gave Dakota Kai, Shotzi, Austin Theory, and Xia Li this dark match experience and obviously most of them took to it. Dakota didn't and she's now back in NXT. Have to believe Raquel gets called up. The Creed Brothers have a look that I imagine McMahon will like. Just depends on if he isn't put off by being extremely green. The problem is obviously Diamond Mine probably isn't coming up as a packaged deal (like Hit Row), so maybe this is just an opportunity to get them some more seasoning. They got to be filler by chasing Reginald during the 24/7 cameo of the Trick or Street Fight Match.

Maybe that's another reason why this felt stupid to me, because it's too soon. All they really needed to do was have her push Sasha and leave the ring, to show she's no one's pawn. Otherwise, where was all that fighting spirit you used to beat down Sasha when you were fighting Charlotte? Shotzi Blackheart has the potential to be a Jeff Hardy in terms of popularity, but they'll try to force a change because they're stubborn. "Oh, you like her? Fuck you, you're going to boo her!" They can pipe in all the fake boos they want, and it'll still suck.

Speaking of Jeff, aren't they step-related? I find it interesting they had him do a backstage segment after that situation.

I mean, there could be a way to salvage this. Have Sasha say she was being her normal self, giving to the roster, the Overgiver (as someone called her after Mania last year), but Shotzi doesn't appreciate my guidance. So, I'll have to graciously mentor someone else. Then she brings out Xia Li, who just screams "Imma kill you" and play into her kicking Mercedes Martinez's head off in NXT (yeah, I know they'll never acknowledge that, but I like dreaming). Then you can have Xia and Shotzi going at it for a few weeks, while still having Sasha and Charlotte verbally jabbing at one another, because neither one should be touching each other before whenever they have their title match, which is probably after Survivor Series. I dare say you could have Charlotte get in on the act and she brings out a proxy in Toni Storm.

They could even run an angle where at Survivor Series, Sasha's proteges (since she still considers Shotzi one) have a match, and if she loses, Shotzi has to be beholden to Sasha's whims. She loses, and then Sasha's gambit all along with the two of them (Xia and Shotzi) was to form a team, murder Super Brutality, and get the tag titles back "because they have sentimental value" to her. Then over the weeks, you see Shotzi hating being controlled by someone. Xia Li's okay with it, because that's what she did in NXT. All the while building to her eventual freedom that is offered by Sasha; if she can win the title from Charlotte, she'll have her freedom. But her first opponent would have to be Sasha. You get the title off Charlotte, you build up someone else, and then Sasha can cheat her way to winning the belt off Shotzi after she won't "lay down" for all she did for her.

They'll never do any of this, but it really should be that hard to come up with satisfying scenarios for their performers and lasting storylines that will carry forward and the fans will remember and appreciate years from now. But, I also just watched a series on Netflix called "Ice Fantasy" which has a simple plot, but super interconnected character relationships, so I guess I'm still in that frame of mind.

I saw it on a new site a while back. I looked back at it, and it was written in such a way that it seemed that when the Hardy's father passed away, and when Shotzi's dad passed away, he was the same man. Looking back at it now, and I can see they were not. The connection, in my mind, formed stronger given from what I've seen from Shotzi during NXT and young daredevil Jeff.

I wouldn't have expected a Shotzi heel turn like that. Good surprise, but think like the Bayley heel turn awhile back this could be done right. That's the counter to the longer, drawn out partnership of her & Sasha that results in the inevitable turn.

Happy Corbin & Madcap Moss are really growing on me. It's a pretty silly midcard gimmick I thought would've sunk if Corbin was on his own, but they extend the life of it pairing him up and making Moss useful.

I never really cared for Shotzi’s gimmick in NXT though appreciated her crazy style. Now I’m interested!
