Rams, Eagles and Saints are all setup for success. If the Vikings land a QB in FA, they’re in the mix as well. The NFC is loaded.

Holy shit I totally forgot about Peters. Wow. Shields went from being far and away the best CB in GB to having the luxury of playing alongside two of the best in the league.

how do you figure? Who is their number 1 receiver? Woods? Who is their number 2 and 3? Who are their linebackers? Who are their ends? They still have a ton of holes. Peters is a great upgrade but I don't think Talib is that good to be honest.

I didn't say it. I said many people are saying it. But they still have about $35 million in cap space to work with after the Talib trade. They can add more pieces.

They have the space but the free agent class isn't the greatest this year. You also have teams with 50-100 million in cap space as competition. That's why teams are making trades.

Honestly, at the rate their GM is trading, I’m considering them the front runners to trade for Landry.

I know this is completely hypothetical, but do you guys think there could be any chemistry concerns for the Rams? Peters was traded for pennies on the dollar due to his behavior/personality, and Talib certainly has a history of being a bit of a headcase too. Not saying they are gonna automatically start shit in the locker room and make the team implode, but it can be argued that it's certainly possible.

Well, he got traded to the Browns. Smart move for Cleveland. Now they need Barkley and a holdover QB, and they will be in better shape.

Suppose for sure they draft either Darnold or Allen at 1 or 4 then.

Bit of a head scratcher by GB. Trading a starting CB, who played pretty good down the stretch, for a backup QB isn’t smart business.

A video of OBJ laying in bed holding what looks like a blunt and some coke on the nightstand next to him has surfaced.

Richard Sherman switching teams in NFC West, to join 49ers on three-year deal

They need the corner help, but should be interesting to see Sherman play without the kind of deep third cover scheme help he's gotten from Thomas all these years.

What’s up with the hypocrisy of draft analysts who say the Browns have to get a qb at 1 but then say the Giants should draft Barkley and go best player available? The Browns have pick 4 to get a qb. Either way, neither team should go RB. Just seems odd to me.

Are they just arguing the Giants aren't as dire in need of qb help in the same way as Clev?

Not putting forth that I agree one way or the other with that, just taking a stab at answering the question.

The argument is because Barkley is the bpa and due to the history of browns passing on qbs. I just think they are talking out of both sides of their mouth

Well both positions are of need to both teams. Assuming Manning has 2-3 years in him is extremely dangerous. Either way, what happens in two years when Manning is done? Back to square one with a pick in the 20s?

    I personally agree about Manning.

But if someone didn't and they honestly felt a last couple solid and competitive seasons could be had of him, and especially with the help of an all-purpose weapon like Barkley, then they might opt to take that bpa over what they deem a lesser need.

And then that wouldn't really be hypocritical from their pov, no?

I don’t know how any “expert” can think Eli Manning can be better than he was since 2011. He has been an average qb for 5 years. How is a bad offensive line going to change that? I know you are playing devil’s advocate but i can’t take an expert seriously if they think a running back will cure eli’s horrible play

    - - - Updated - - -

The browns can afford to take bpa because they have another pick at 4

I'm not playing devil's advocate. I agree with you about Eli.

I'm saying that if someone truly believes Eli can still produce then they're not speaking hypocritically. And calling their expertise into question, while fair, does not make them a hypocrite either. This isn't taking their side, even just for argument sake, other than allowing them their own pov on Eli in particular.

And the browns can afford to take bpa at 1 if they aren't sold on a qb that high. If they are though then they can't afford to let it ride.

Cousins expected to sign with the Vikings. 3 years with all 86 million fully guaranteed, per initial reports. Not fully done yet but seems in the bag. He will hit the market again at age 32.

Looks like Cardinals are targeting Mike Glennon. Not a bad choice, if they draft a qb early.

Jets view Teddy Bridgewater as a fallback option to Cousins. Teddy is a great guy, and I want him to succeed wherever he goes.

Three years 86 is a good deal to get Cousins. I'm interested to see how our new practice facility will play into free agency.

Bills better hope they can trade into the top 5 to get a QB.

Amendola to the Dolphins. Jimmy Graham to the Packers. Teddy Bridgewater close to a deal with the Jets.

Graham should be a good weapon for Rodgers although it seems like they never use TE's much. Amendola is a bigger loss for the Pats than he is gain for the Dolphins. Tough to see him go. So clutch in the playoffs. So handsome.

Amendola and Albert Wilson working the middle of the field, Kenny Stills and Devante Parker on the outside. Okay, I'm intrigued. Still got Grant, Carroo and Ford at WR too.

Giants make Nate Solder the highest paid offensive lineman in the league. This is the first loss for the Pats that really hurts (given that Butler and Dion Lewis were never expected to stick around and Amendola is only a luxury weapon given that Edelman is coming back). You gotta protect Brady at age 41. It's concerning, but he is just an above average left tackle, not even in the running for the best in the league. You overpay for that position because it's so important. The Pats don't generally overpay. Oh well, we press on. Dante Scarnecchia will make it work.

What will we do with our 21 mil in cap space remaining? Rumors that they have made an offer to AJ McCarron to be our backup, and that we're interested in Suh. But the most likely scenario is we just add a handful of low cost depth pieces.

That's some pretty important pieces they are losing on top of the fact that they have zero pass rush. They basically need a DE, DT, LB, RB, LT now. Maybe even some secondary help because Rowe is a slot guy and I personally think Chung stinks

Rowe is better on the outside. They need a slot corner if anything. Chung is good. Their pass rush needs help but in their defense they were tied for 7th in sacks last year (whether those were coverage sacks vs pass rush sacks is debatable).

They are fine at DT, definitely need DE and OT help. RB is a position they always fill easily so not worried there. LB could use some help.

The re-additions of Edelman and Hightower will be huge.

Yeah for sure. Edelman will make a huge difference there. I think if they can get that pass rush going they will be head and shoulders above the AFC.

It’s not that the Packers don’t use the TE, they just really haven’t had a good one since Jermicheal Finley.

Jesus. Robinson really is trying to turn us into New England South. Hope it works. Butler was a real surprise. Not that I'm not glad to have him. If Jackson lives up to the potential he showed in his rookie year than we may have one of the better defensive back fields in the AFC.

I just figured we would spend the free agent money trying to get better on the line. But whatever. This is Robinson's deal. He suited us up with a new coach despite going deeper into the playoffs than we had in like 12 years. So he must have some kind of serious plan on what's going to get us to a Super Bowl in a hurry.

Very interested in what happens in the draft now.

They can always get help on the d-line in the draft. I do think a need for them is WR right?

Cook was awesome. His regular season stats don't show it (didn't have chemistry early on, then he was hurt for a bit), but if I recall, they were connecting like crazy in the playoffs.

Trevor Siemian traded to the Vikings. Solid trade for a backup QB. Looking forward to what Cousins can do in this offense with Cooks, Diggs, Thielan, and Rudolph.

Jordy Nelson and Doug Martin to the Raiders. Crabtree released. Jason McCourty traded to the Patriots to join his twin brother in the secondary. Dontari Poe to the Panthers.

It likely attracts a certain type of player and repels another. Brandin Cooks has been here 1 year and already said his priority is to finish his career with the Patriots. Brady has taken team friendly deals his whole career to ensure he sticks around. Gronk is Gronk, with most reports saying his retirement talk is aimed at getting a pay raise. Giardi is selling page views by saying Brady and Gronk are "miserable", that's his job.

LMFAO So first it was Curran not knowing anything and now it's Giardi. Interesting. But the reports of those players "wanting" to go to NE are true right? Did any of those guys sign there? hmmmm

There is a conversation to be had about when Brady will retire and what Gronk's mindset is (he has long been at odds with Belichick especially when it's come to the handling of injuries - no one else is getting a joint statement from the Pats and a player's family) that we can discuss if you want some Pats talk but to your point of how the dynasty drama reported in the media affects free agents wanting to join, I just don't see it. That's an individual decision for each free agent about what type of fit they want and where they want to play but being on a winning team is a big appeal. Playing with Brady and Belichick is a big appeal. To say they won't be able to attract free agents if they want them (which they are always extremely selective about anyway) is dumb.

So I'm not entirely dismissing this article and the 3 tweets which comprise its content, but I am dismissing your assertion.

Don't doubt there's some degree of truth to the story. Not necessarily that it's some tortuous hellhole or anything, but that the desire to win and have a chapter in one's career that can be defined as championship is somewhat offset by the meat grinder nature of a Belichick regime. This isn't so much some tarnishing black eye as much as a descriptor of some of the price for such any extensive winning legacy in as turbulent a league as today's nfl. Philly looked like a fun team to win a ring with, but just how sustainable is it? Ultimately just depends on any given player and/or where there career may be if it all adds up to the correct value.

It’s not one guy that’s reporting it though and it’s not even guys outside the market either. It’s people that have some connection to the city and team. They may be stretching the truth a little but more and more info is coming out. Not to mention the Brady/Guerrero and Jimmy G trade stories.

basically what fro is getting at. like what is this argument you're trying to start or point you're hoping to make? as an eagles fan you should be a lot less eager to jump newbites like this. blount being in danger of getting cut before the regular season was a sizeable story last year, locally, and it turned out to be nothing but bullshit as far we can tell now. the weird combativeness about this is just odd. go watch jason kelce's promo again and dont worry about fro and the pats.

Tyrann Mathieu coming to Houston, per Schefter.

Pretty stoked. Our secondary's been hit or miss at best.

Yeah 7mil seems dirt cheap for Mathieu. I know it's technically a different position, but seeing him get less than half in annual salary than Trumaine Johnson seems weird to me. Good for HOU though. They get Watt back, added Colvin + Honey Badger and get Deshaun Watson back. They could be a dark horse SB pick.

Colts obviously score the 2's and still look to get the piece that fits them best in Bradley Chubb.

Jets guarantee themselves a Darnold, Allen, or Rosen instead of having to sweat out Clev, NYG, and Denver's selections.

Looks like I’ll have to get myself a Bradley Chubb jersey.

Great trade by the colts. Do the bills need to jump to 1 or 2 now?

Not if the Giants think highly enough of one of them while accepting Eli's days are numbered.

If Suh ends up signing with the Rams, they will upgrade from scary to terrifying officially.

Trading away Ogletree definitely left a hole. But the better your DL is, the more it can mask your LBs I guess haha. They are also right around the sweet spot where mock drafts show Leighton Vander Esch going. He could be their next Laurinaitis (sp). But yeah, I agree that is definitely the weakest unit of that defense.

If I recall, Morgan Burnett wanted 10mil per year going into FA. After a quiet start, he finally signed this am with the Steelers, 3years 14.5mil. He is not an all-pro safety by any means, but that is great value for them.

This is a good read and I respect Sherman for trying to negotiate his own deal... but I agree with those who say he did a poor job. He only just turned 29 and he's an all pro CB. $3 million guaranteed with a lot of incentives? Cmon man. Even if the achilles tear meant he had to take a "prove it" deal, it should have been at least a full 10 million guaranteed in year 1. How can he get 10x less guaranteed than Malcolm Butler and think this is a good deal??

And how did the Seahawks not match?

I hope he's okay. Scary stuff. Maybe he was on synthetic weed like when Chandler Jones showed up to the police station in his underwear.

"the ability to perform such an act" is where this remains confusing, maybe they will tweak that before it gets finalized, but overall this seems like an improvement. I'm trying to even wrap my head around the last part though. if you catch it, 2 feet down, you don't make a football act but you have the ability to make one, then the ball comes out, that's a catch. if you don't have the ability to make a football move, it's not a catch. so the refs have to determine that?
