Yikes looks like the Wild are ready to go golfing.. and the Blues showed up to play playoff hockey! Hopefully the Preds take out Chicago for you guys if you're just gonna breeze past us like this! lol

I still have a hard time believing it has anything to do with Yeo's coaching... unless he grew a lot as a coach over the last year.. because all he did here was make horrible choices and ice the world's worst power play! lol some of that is definetly on our "star" players and I use that term very loosely. Minnesota sports are frustrating

I liked Hitchcock but looks like it was time for him to go and not wait for him to retire at the end of the year. They seem to be clicking right now. Hope they can make a good run of it. I think last year was really one of our better chances but you never know.

It's very exciting. But I'm still not planning the parade. The Caps didn't win all those games in the regular season by chance.

    Yep true that.

Still the city must be buzzing, I've seen all the videos and all that of the fans celebrating and watching the games on the big screen.

wow! way to go Nashville! Chicago is out! and the Wild actually won one to avoid the sweep! I know the odds are stacked against them but I'd love to see them at least make a series out of it!

Bruins won it in the first OT and then again in the second OT, and also separately were deprived of a penalty shot in 1OT. Final score really should have been 5-2. The heartbreaker would have been if the Bruins lost despite all that ref nonsense.

Good series though and I know it must be deflating to stick around for 2 OTs and take the L - that's a long night. Especially when they stop selling alcohol in the 3rd.

I'm definitely keeping tabs on this Caps vs Penguins series (game 6 on now). It's wild that the Caps have never even been to an Eastern Conference Finals with Ovechkin. They're the perennial underachievers going up against the champs/traditional powerhouse. Possibly the 2 best players in the game. Crosby coming back from his concussion to play tonight.

Just an intriguing series all around. As a non-hockey guy this has my attention more than whatever the eventual Stanley Cup matchup will be.

Just looked that up on Youtube. Awesome!

The only thing they play at Staples Center for the Kings is CM Punk's theme. Love it when arenas play WWE songs.

I'm pretty sure I heard Balor's theme earlier in the night playing in the arena too but I'm not 100%! I've been watching so much playoff hockey it may have been in one of the other games within the last few days! lol

One of the local radio stations(rock music) here has a DJ thats a big time WWE fan working there and a lot of their background music while they are talking on air between actual songs are instrumental versions of WWE or NXT themes too! Its pretty funny to hear someone speaking about a farmer's market in a Minnesota accent over Balor's theme for example.

How about those Pens tonight? I was hoping this was Ovi's year to get past Sid and get a shot at winning it all! can't complain about Cullen winning though! I'm a big Matt Cullen fan.

I went to a minor league hockey game a few weeks ago and they played a bunch of wrestling themes. "Here Comes the Money," "Glorious," Kevin Owens theme, Balor. I think there were one or two others that I'm forgetting.

Sucks the Oilers are out...the Game 4 collapse was a disaster and a lot of calls didn't go our way, but it's a young team and we'll be back! Hoping to see the Sens or Preds win it all.

I am hoping for an Ottawa/Anaheim repeat of 07. Even Randy Carlyle is back lol. Ott/Pitt is gonna be exciting and I will be going to game 3 next Wed. Pretty amped.

    BOOOOOOOOOO

Although, during these playoffs I was actually able to watch a Predator game in full and holy shit are they good. Fast, amazing turnaround in the neutral zone and probably best defense corps in the league. Can roll 3 lines of top level Ds. Very very fun team to watch.

Didn't see this earlier. Basically just a case of wanting to see the team that knocked out my team win it all. Honestly they are a really good club and putting it all together at the right time to take out 3 teams that finished higher than them during the regular season. Kudos to them.

    Pens in 6.

No Johansen/a banged up Fisher (if at all) up the middle vs Crosby/Malkin? Doesn't matter how good your defensive corps is if you're swimming upstream like that...

I was thinking it would be like the foot in the crease. But I guess since it wasn't right at the end of the game it's not as catchy a headline.

Nashville did get screwed on the early whistle, but the refs made it up by giving them four power plays including a 5 on 3 for 30 seconds. I have no idea how Hornivquest put that puck in. None. It defies physics. We can now put Sid in for one of the best all time. Gretsky will always have his zealot block much like Jordan does in basketball, but to me he is one of the best I have seen player. Even better than Mario which I never thought I would say.

Sidney Crosby winning the Conn Smyth is the biggest display of an organization doing their best to ensure a players image is glorified down the road. No way is he Pittsburgh's MVP of the playoffs, let alone the leagues.

Does a player not on the Stanley Cup winner ever win that award?

Been hearing that Crosby is now top-5 of all time.

While I agree it was Malkin, Crosby did end up second in points for the playoffs. Not like he was some scrub.

Not a scrub by any means, but I'd personally put Guentzel ahead of him as well. 13 goals, crucial to taking a commanding lead in the finals, and 5 GWG's in the playoffs.

Way too early for that lofty perch. If in 6-8 years he's sitting around 1500+ points with another Cup win or two, then I'll definitely entertain that. Right now, I have him ball parked in the early to mid 30s...

This. I also had Guentzel as my Conn Smythe winner.

I agree, I think it should've been either Guentzel or Malkin, Murray as the third choice. Not a Crosby hater, but it's obvious the league is doing their part to shape a legacy of a single player rather than each individual award going to the most deserving person. What was most talked about was games Crosby was shut down while Malkin somewhat quietly did his work and got less credit for it.

Losing Radulov is the tipping point on Bergevin, I think. Want him out now.

Ahh don't worry about it. As long as Carey only gives up one or uhh preferably zero goals every game you'll be just dandy.

Very excited about the return to free TV of the NHL in the UK. Not been on free TV since 2005.

The new Free Sports channel will be airing 3 live NHL games a week.

The channel is available with all providers, with the exception of Virgin.

Also has the NRL on there.

Fucking amped to see Jagr finally ink a deal. Unbelievable that no team snatched him up before now. Hes gonna be a huge leadership asset for a young burgeoning Calgary team. Wish Ottawa picked him up, considering our numerous injury woes up front.

Lively thread this year. With the all-star game coming up just my two cents at the break.

Surprises: Vegas, for one. Boston, thought for sure this would be a down year with the talent discrepancy that seemed to be there between the top line and d-pair to the rest of the guys. Colorado. In the running for a playoff spot seemed, to me, at least a couple years and high draft picks away. I'm liking what I'm seeing of them, and they even subtracted Duchene and got a really good return on him.

Disappointments: Edmonton. Doesn't look like the same team as last year though they have almost the same roster out there. A year older, a year worse? Chicago goes without saying. Playing against the cap for awhile is catching up to them and going with younger, cheaper players, your stars are all getting older and need some help around them. NY Rangers. I thought they could still compete for another year or two, and then Shattenkirk ends up hurt, or playing hurt most of this year.

A good group of rookies out there across the league this year. Montreal looks stupid or Tampa looks smart, getting Sergachev back and Drouin being a flop in Montreal too. Jersey getting Butcher without giving up anything was a really good acquisition for them. Very lucky to land him. McAvoy, I think he leads rookies in TOI, could be wrong on that. Really enjoyed watching him at the college level.

Pittsburgh. I don't know where to rate them, as it's pretty much the same roster as the Cup winning team, and even have the goalie that played the majority of the playoff games for them.

I just don't see any other team but Tampa or maybe Boston coming out of the east. West, so many good teams it's hard to go with one. Winnipeg has been a nice surprise this year, have seen them a handful of times and they have a really good core group of players. Any one of Calgary, Winnipeg, even Nashville again, or St. Louis in the finals would make me happy.

I am boycotting the NHL since they didn't call the Las Vegas team the Bailjumpers. I would have come to Vegas to watch them, since the Red Wings suck. Is pot legal in Vegas now?

I'll need clarification on that too. It seems to be different every game and every ref crew. Talking about the Matthews goal that was called back?

Yup and last night the Blackhawks scored one that I thought for sure would be called back for it and wasn't.

I'm not really a Leafs fan - exciting team, good young roster and all - but not having a team in the game, I was shouting "bullshit!" at the TV. My understanding is you're preventing the goalie from having a clear track to the puck, and besides screening which wasn't happening, that looked good to me.

Something big would have had to happen behind the scenes for them to want to offload Karlsson. Nobody will be able to pay the asking price at deadline, but will be interesting to see what happens in the off-season.

Montreal should yard sale. They really need to replace Bergevin first, but this is the chance to start a re-build.

Seems like it's always Toronto involved in these goaltender interference calls, but last night was definitely a no goal. It's past the point of inconsistent now.

Nice return for St Lou for trading Stastny away. Good developing power forward in Foley, two draft picks. Looks like the Blues are all in on punting this season.

Think Tampa is the big winner out of the deadline deals. McDonagh, Miller. Didn't give up Sergachev or really anyone that would weaken the lineup being without. Get McDonagh for another year after this. I like it. Traded a nice player in Howden but it wasn't likely going to do much if they held onto him.

I think the Blues will be alright, their biggest offseason concern should be addressing the goalie situation. Made the right move letting go of Elliott the season before, but I don't see Allen as elite and maybe not even in top 15.

I agree. Even if they stayed still I think they were 1 and done in the playoffs. They did get a nice return on the expiring contract though. Foley would've had a harder time making the lineup in Winnipeg sooner than he does in St Louis. Good, physical forward who should slot in on their 2nd line in a few years. Better to get something for Stastny with the risk of losing him for nothing, and they got that 1st rounder. Good deal for both teams.

It does seem deflating on some levels but at the same time from a business point of view they couldn't get a deal done so get some value for him while you can.

On a fan level, I understand it. I'd be disappointed too to see my team punting the season. Just the way the standings are looking there's almost no way to catch the top 3 in the division, so you're fighting for either playoff spot. For some reason I thought the Stastny contract was for 7 years, but smart of them to get something.

I follow the college level very closely, probably a little more than I do the NHL. There's a lot of exciting, young players as property of most teams that in a year or two will start filling out NHL rosters. The Blues have a good assortment of younger players and prospects in their system, I don't know much about their goalies but the forwards and d-men developing in the AHL and below are going to help the big club in a few years. On the bright side your team is not looking at a steep rebuild in the way of the Rangers and, pretty soon, the Blackhawks too.

I love my Blues. I bleed Blue. But man year after year of disappointing finishes does wear on you. Especially when there are years in they should have been contenders or even gone all the way. It did seem they were playing over their head a bit for the first part of the season but kept thinking that once they slipped a little bit it wouldn't be a dramatic fall and then they would be in an okay position for the playoffs. Once that happens if you can catch fire you can do it. But alas they started slipping and just fucking fell. Sigh. Still time left but we shall see how it goes.

I was pretty shocked at stastny trade to Winnipeg. Only a few pts from the wildcard and you trade one of your bigger pieces to a divisional rival?

It'll be a battle for the final two wild card spots in the west. If they follow the "reboot" as opposed to completely tearing it down Rangers-style, they should bounce back quicker like the Bruins have. I was quite surprised to see them start out so hot, I felt I underestimated them and saw them more like what they're doing now.

Nice to see your Blues still hanging around that last playoff spot. All is not dark on their season.
Good get out of college team, Nolan Stevens signed from Northeastern and Erik Foley just signed today. Don't know how soon the latter will play, he had an injury that limited him in his final college game last weekend. Wish there were more players like him, 6'1 plays like he's 6'6.

I bleed Blue and I loved that at one point we had the most active streak in North American sports for making the playoffs (20+ years) but no fucking Stanley Cups to show for it. So heartbreaking every year. Hell at least the Rams won one Super Bowl before going down the toilet and moving and our former NBA team even won a championship. I love the Blues but man it can be hard to be a fan at times.

It seems you have simultaneously managed to have one of the better management teams in the league, but also manage to make some bizarre moves that put you back.

I think I've said it before, but I'd be a Blues fan if it weren't for loyalty to my Canadiens (I can't stand the way the team has been run in the past decade). I think you should have did whatever it took to keep Oshie, I don't think you should have broken up the Elliott/Allen competition, and you definitely should have held onto Stats at the deadline. I know it's not as cut and dry as that, but your chance to win the cup was really within the last 2-3 years. You might be one or two pieces away at the moment, but a good off-season could instantly make you contenders again next year.

That being said, they'll probably defy their expectations this year and go further than they ever did with their lethal squads.

The Cardinals are awesome. Even during the down years easy to be a Cards fan.

They have definitely been years they have had good chances to pull it off and even during the last few years they have had some good teams only to somehow go cold during the playoffs or goalies go to shit or something.

I hated breaking up the Elliot/Allen combo but I understood why they did it. Just didn't work out like they thought. I also miss Oshie.

Frustrating to watch us have some great coaches that can't help us get over the hump and turn around and win Stanley Cups with other teams.

Henrik and Daniel Sedin retiring at the end of this season...I knew this day was coming, doesn't make it any easier.

    Gutted.

I haven't watched shit for hockey this year, mostly because the Redwings suck. However, I know there are things in the NHL playoffs that are certain.... The Capitals and the Sharks will always choke sometime before the Stanley Cup Finals.

Islanders suck and we don't deserve JT. I pray to God that he stays, though.
