I really wish Cyborg would fight a UFC-proven top calibre opponent though I realize this time it's de Randamie's fault. Hopefully she gets through her opponent as expected and they can set up Cyborg/Holm. Sure Holly has only just broken a losing streak but it's the only appealing fight available atm.

I wonder if we'll get a face-off between GSP and the Woodley/Maia winner.

One has to think with the Mayweather-McGregor stuff and then the International Fight Week, this card sadly fell to the wayside. And it's too bad. This is probably the most stacked, important card of 2017 so far.

It's hard to consider anyone in the UFC moving up to 145 in that category you're looking for. Name value is great and all but I mean, is GDR anymore credible than Tonya Evinger? I don't think so. She barely beat Holly Holm, all her other wins, never heard of any of these women other than Julie Kedzie who is right there in that era of Tonya Evinger, Miesha Tate, Shayna Bazler, etc. And even then that was a split decision.

I just like to watch Cyborg destroy.

I hope. I know we still have that nonsense floating around of possibly seeing GSP v. Bisping but I think that ship thankfully sailed.

As a forner UFC champion she is more credible than Tonya Evinger. Even if the whole situation was a joke, she has that official credential and has headlined a ppv.

So in your opinion, all former UFC champions are more credible than those who are NOT former UFC champions?

Interesting. On one hand I could agree with that but in this case......Convince me how that makes any sense. If you had said her win over Holly Holm, regardless if we agree that she won or not, that right there is a bigger win based purely on name value than anything Tonya Evinger has done. I'd get down with that. But simply saying GDR was the first ever 145 champ, never defended it, pussied out when asked to defend against the queen of the division, and now she has no belt and her record is still pretty terrible.

i'm so anticipating this card falling apart that i won't even be disappointed if it does. maybe many feel this way, contributing to the lack of hype. if it goes off without a hitch, i'm super hyped for this card.

This is the main event I should have saw at UFC 200 and it is finally happening.

I expect Jon Jones to win, but I am always aware that lay offs and rust is a factor when a fighter returns

I expect Woodley to win handily by TKO or boring decision

and I expect Cyborg to win by Cyborg ways

Robbie Lawler/Cerrone is a great fight, this is another fight I should have saw in person at UFC 205... I wish it happened before Cerrone started getting cracked. I think Lawler wins this by KO

it is undoubtedly an epic card and the biggest non-Conor PPV they can put out with the GOAT Jon Jones headlining

if Jon Jones loses I will change my avatar to this:

just watched embedded episode 1. Jon Jones is only a white belt?? Holly Holm is higher in jiu jitsu than a guy who tapped out Vitor Belfort, Ryan Bader, Machida, Rampage?? molested Shogun on the mat at will

Difference between knowing jj for mma and adapting that to one's fight tools and being everyday proficient at a bjj gym is huge.

Just saw the face-off and Maia absolutely dwarfs Woodley. I think we're about to have a new champ.

I dunno, Thompson was just as big with a longer reach than Maia. And Woodley has a longer reach than Maia.

Woodley is presumably stronger than Maia.

Maia either submits Woodley in the first 2 rounds, Woodley knocks Maia out in the first 2 rounds, or it becomes a question of who has the better gas tank, and I am leaning Woodley.

My predictions for the main 4 fights:

    Jones
    Cyborg
Woodley *rooting for Maia but I feel Woodley's power is going to be the deciding factor*
    Cerrone

Oh definitely. Those 4 fights, even if I'm not a huge fan of Tonya Evinger (I mean let's face it, we're probably destined to be constantly disappointed with whoever has the clit to fight Cyborg) but even then I like her style and I think the fight will be more competitive than people think. I'm of the opinion that every top fighter eventually gets served. Aldo, GSP, Fedor, the list goes on if these unbeatable guys who wind up getting served by another top talent or some under the radar fighter who had no chance. I hope this isn't the time for Cyborg.

The fight that has me up in arms about who to choose is Lawler/Cerrone. A good part of me thinks Lawler, but then I think of how slick Cerrone can be. I'm mainly going with Cerrone simply because I think if he takes it to the ground he has the advantage, outside of that it's hard to predict. TBH, I could see every one of my picks being wrong including Bones Jones.

I must point out that GSP still hasn't been served. Pre-USADA Johny Hendricks came close but I still scored it for GSP.

I am torn between wanting Jon Jones to lose because he's such a scumbag and wanting him to win so we can see the return of the best MMA fighter of all time.

I want Maia to win, but am sure that Woodley will.

I want Cyborg to win because I want the UFC to promote her with their hats in their hands.

I want Lawler to win because he's probably my all time favourite fighter and I want him to get the title back.

    Just a stunning card though.

Some undercard fights not mentioned in the OP:

    Jason Knight vs Ricardo Lamas

    Renan Barao vs Aljamain Sterling

The debut of the extremely hot Russian chick Alexandra Albu.

    +1

Alba was clearly the superior physical specimen and won most of her offense via physicality. But Curran seemed to be the better fighter; much better technically and much fresher with less damage by the end of the fight. I thought it was a bad judges' call, had Curran winning rounds 2 and 3. Would bang both.

Quick bourbon infused summary on my phone:

-fuck Jimmy manua he's still the same guy who got knocked out by rumble
-enjoyed the cowboy fight, I thought cowboy could have won the first and third round. Very surprised at the unanimous decision the other way. Fun fight regardless
-cyborg fight was interesting and laid the blueprint on how to beat cyborg, basically survive and try to tire her out. While cyborgs opponent was not successful at all she was tough as hell
-Maia fight was shit, don't know why he didn't throw kicks. I get it that Maia wants to be one dimensional and win with bjj but meh
-man, I was so impressed with how Cormier was doing until he decided to block low and jones went high. Boom that was it. I was wondering was Cormier was protesting at the end but apprently he didn't realize he was knocked out. Poor guy

And jones is once again GOAT

Maybe don't post drunk. Next time it'll be a short ban.

Good card that. Good luck anyone beating bones.

I cant see how anyone would score the first round in the lawler vs cerrone fight to cerrone. Robbie battered him for the first half of the round and then the second half cerrone took him down and landed nothing at all. How on earth does that go to cerrone?

If the final round went either way then I'd say fair enough. Personally since they landed virtually the same amount but Lawler was the aggressor, backing Cerrone up the whole round and more of his were power head shots and he stuffed all of cerrone's takedowns I scored it to Lawler. Admittedly I am biased.

Yes that was a good tactic to employ against cyborg, but you need to do more than survive if you're going to tire out. She could slowly walk you down and pick her punches all night.

Was it it just me or was Manuwa hurt and backing up, then he got pushed down and banged his head off the canvas and was out. I score that as a great and weird throw/push knockout like the one on the Scotland card the other week.

Nah, he was hurt with the hockey punches and then got hit by a left hook/swing while backpeddling on wobbly legs. It was a punch from Volkan on the ground that ended it, not the hammer fist but the one he threw after it. Manuwa definitely hit the back of his head hard on the mat though and it probably stunned him.

I had Cerrone 29-28 on first viewing, would need to rewatch to be sure though.

Yeah. Watched it in "spectator mode" though, meaning I wasn't focusing on scoring.

I watched the main event. Jones looked outstanding. Sounds like the full card is worth a download.

Just got done watching it, boss card that was.

Made up for Jones as a fighter always been a huge fan. Gutted for DC, he's a good guy, and has been, in comparison to Jones [this is a huge thing for me, not the coke, not the partying, but the car accident what he did]. However, DC really handled the loss in the worst way possible [Rousey with being the worst in this and he' a close second now]. Not standing there at the end. Didn't come out in good light.

Credit to Jones, not really sure who can give him a proper match up in the division after this.

Woodley get's weird criticism, he fought two specialists, and did what he needed to win. He's defended his title 3 times is it? Could be 4 in almost a year, and he gets very little credit for that.

What are you on about? It was confirmed that Cormier had a concussion, he didn't know what was going on, didn't know why the fight had been ended. He was badly hurt and shouldn't have been interviewed.

    Thoughts after watching 214:

    - Jon Jones is the GOAT. A fight vs Brock would be big money, and it's the only appealing fight he has atm. Set this up, feed someone to Gustafsson in the meantime, and win or lose Jones has another intriguing fight afterwards in that rematch.

    - Woodley/Maia was one of the worst fights I've ever seen. I don't blame DW for denying him GSP but I'd wager he gets over it and books the fight anyways.

    - I'm tired of watching Cyborg crush jobbers. It's not her fault as they can't find anyone for her but this is the second joke 145lb title fight in a row. Tonya Evinger should be ashamed for being in that kind of shape as a pro athlete at the top level in her sport. UFC title contender Tonya Evinger ladies and gentlemen.

    - Lawler/Cowboy delivered and I scored it exactly how the judges did.

I realize R3 was the closest round of the fight but I still don't see how it could be scored for Cerrone. He was on the backpedal the entire round eating the harder shots and clearly the most damaged, particularly favoring his body. Also his (very nice) takedown towards the end of R1 didn't trump Robbie's flurry at the opening bell.

I agree completely with that assessment. Lawler deserves credit for being the aggressor and dictating where the fight took place in the third round too.

This is a crazy sport. Just watched the post-fight and Dana said Robbie Lawler is likely next on Woodley's horizon. Prior to Saturday night I would have moaned at that booking but now I feel it's the best possible decision.

I remember watching the first fight thinking that woodley could only win if Robbie stood still and out of his own striking range...and that's exactly what he did. I know that woodley is fast and powerful and explosive and accurate, but most of his power comes from a running one two, he can't do that if you've got him in a phonebox and that's what Robbie specialises in.

At least with those two as a combination you're going to see a fight, which is more than we've got from tyron's last three.

However, a journalist did ask Dana White at the press conference whether they aren't marketing woodley all wrong. He does have some similarities to mayweather. He's black, looks like a super hero, good looking, articulate and can be likeable. He plays it safe and is cautious but has a good fight iq and two incredible weapons (defensive wrestling and power), but everyone wants to see him get beat because his fights are fucking boring. That works for Floyd because he promotes himself. Doesn't work for Tyron because the UFC promote him.

Id love to see Robbie Lawler knock him out. The thing that I laughed about most was Tyron talking about how Maia had to accept the shot at late notice because when the champ wants to fight the number one contender you need to bow to the champs demands, you can't sit and wait or your shot might go away. Now I agree with him that it's nice to see a champ who is fighting number one contenders...but woodley sat out for a year waiting for a title shot due to a freak injury over condit and a terrible win over kelvin gastelum. He's pretty bloody lacking in self awareness when he talks sometimes.

He might be the UFC's #1 heel atm. Has it all: the belt, the confidence, the look, the wins, the un-fan-friendly performances, the hypocrisy, the self-entitlement, the record that show he can be beat, etc. Another journalist asked Dana if he considered that he was robbing the fans of seeing the massively cleancut babyface GSP end Tyron's reign. Right now I prefer to see him rematch Lawler but if he wins that Dana must swallow his pride and give him GSP. The fan emotion would be through the roof which can only translate to money in everyone's pocket.

I thought the same thing, but who else is there at WW?

    Wonderboy no, Maia no,

it really only comes down to Masvidal/Lawler. I personally think Masvidal and Lawler should fight and the winner gets a title shot. But I am ok if Lawler just gets it. He comes to fight, got caught in his fight with Woodley, and paid his dues

after them you go into Cowboy/Nagby/Condit

Masvidal is coming off a loss and is scheduled to fight wonderboy. If he wins I'm happy enough for him to fight woodley as a new and interesting matchup. He also brought an interesting fight out of Maia and I wouldn't be surprised if he won a rematch.

Jones looked great. Cyborg is a beast, tough opponent to withstand some of those shots. Tonya looked like she was fucked right off the bat but somehow survived. Lawler/Cerrone was super close, good fight.

I get the negative response toward Woodley but I mean come on, if he was a draw it wouldn't even matter because I've seen dudes like GSP himself put crowds to sleep and get booed out of buildings. His last fight he was booed out of the building.

Woodley would have more leeway with his super safe "fight not to lose" style if he was a draw. But he's not, and his entitled attitude doesn't help his case. That being said though we need more "characters" so to speak and I appreciate Woodley for what he is. Personal feelings aside he's a physical specimen and an elite fighter, not to mention his interviews are generally more entertaining than his fights.

Honestly I see him as sort of an anti-GSP nowadays.
