FC Hurley

A whirlwind two years for Hurley saw an RFA cup win followed by league victory being snatched away on the final day of last season. Pessimism arose in the first round of the draft with the QI klaxon signing of Sergio Aguero who will spend the season as an aging, injury ridden, back-up striker who barely plays towards goal anymore. Last season FC Hurley made fewer than ten signings and late season reluctance to transfer out Luuk de Jong may have cost them the title and with that reluctance expected to continue along with signings of wingers Jones and Kashket along with Scott Hogan who is a shell of his former self mean it is expected to be a long season for FC Hurley. It’s nothing personal, it’s business.

For the second season running eyebrows were raised at Chris Scott’s euro pick but once again his European agent contacts were spot on at forecasting the transfers of Europe’s top strikers. The decision to drop Eden Hazard who looked one of the warmer late picks is seen as a negative and the rest of the squad has question marks. Lee Angol is unproven at Mansfield, a club still pursuing another goalscorer. Dicko is expected to play backup at Wolves and Troy Deeney should’ve been in the supplementary draft. Scott Sinclair looks a class above the SPL and Neymar could be just about anything but the squad and the manager’s reputation are carrying too many question marks to be predicted any higher

There’s every chance Mikey had the best draft of anyone. He starts the season with Gabriel Jesus, Harry Kane, Will Grigg and Byron Harrison who could all have been justifiable top 5 picks. Harrison starts the season with an injury and Grigg had question marks over how much involvement he’d have in the first XI hence picking them up in later rounds. Billy Kee and Tom Pope are RFF lifers. Mauro Icardi returns after his ill-fated spell with Gary J and could go either way, perhaps not the best Euro pick. This prediction reflects the strength of the league and the commitment of the manager. A team posted at 14:35 during last season that contained just two starting players suggested that league winner Mikey is taking the Sven Goran-Eriksson route of later career management.

Speculation persists as to SOF’s involvement this season as he hasn’t been seen around the training ground this past week. In Bas Dost he has a prolific striker and Paul McCallum was the on the list of some of the sharpest RFF players. Chris Martin was an inauspicious start to his draft and Ugbo and Ramirez may have been signed a year early. SOF has developed into a very consistent manager and has every chance of outperforming this prediction but not until he makes a few moves.

3 players with huge potential in Britt, Wyke and Cox lead the line for Beefy, added to Doidge who is a goalscorer off to a great start. Tiquinho Soares had an impressive season last year with attention-grabbing shot data but Porto are a team in transition this season. The Lee Westwood of RFF has regularly reminded us of his lack of interest in football and that indifference resulted in a poor 16/17 season, it could go either way this year so we’re sat on the fence and putting him somewhere in the middle.

A promising return last year for an RFF legend that saw him step into the role of league secretary. UK Blue is always competitive but his draft leaves something to be desired. Alvaro Morata is a striker who has only beaten 10 goals in a league season once. Diego Costa, a better player, scored just 6 goals after December last season, against Hull, Swansea, WHU, Southampton and Middlesbrough as Chelsea weren’t creating the chances and Conte strikers are never prolific. Such games could see Morata rested if he’s preferred for the Champions League. Chris Wood is off the back of a great year and should continue that albeit under a new manager and play style. Conor Chaplin is the insider’s pick and Higuain is bound to bang. The rest? also-rans.

After being in the mix for many years Andy finally converted his consistency into league silverware last season. Just as Torn drafted Darren Bent at number one before him, Andy chose to open the draft with Darren Bent mark II in Romelu Lukaku. With just 8 of his 24 goals coming against top half teams last season it is wondered whether this flat track bully may struggle as defences attempt to be meaner against Manchester United. Much better Euro players than Belotti were available to Andy and it’s hard to share Andy’s optimism that a move to Milan would be a big positive. Of course, Andy does have free reign of the lower Scottish divisions and he will find gold down there.

The signing of Omar Bogle has fallen victim to BBF’s holiday as it appears he’s third choice at Wigan, a touted move to Mansfield would be preferential. In Kaspar Dolberg he signs one of Europe’s bright young strikers who bagged 16 in 29 last season albeit only managed around 1.5 shots from inside the area per game. Typically there are a few players no one has heard of as Dave Tarpey (Maidenhead United) sounds like he was scouted from The Spellow’s Sunday XI. It’s intriguing to see ghost of RFF past Ashley Grimes reappear at Edinburgh City.

20 in 27, 32 in 34, 13 in 19, no it isn’t Robert Lewandowski, it’s Jonas. The diamond of the later European picks and spearhead of a squad of settled goalscorers. In Lasse Vibe they have a man who picked up where Scott Hogan left off, adding away goals to a stellar home record after the return of a revitalised Jota in a vibrant, fluid front line. Kennth Zohore impresses evermore each week playing in a team built around his strengths. A late crisis of confidence saw Crewe Alexander move down these rankings when half the team was entered into the supplementary draft and replaced with the abysmal Lewis Grabban, an entirely unknown quantity and plodder Chris Porter.

A mysterious 'injury' kept John Akinde out of last Saturday’s team but he is as guaranteed a goalscorer as you get if he stays at Barnet. Aubameyang is a top Euro pick and Macauley Bonne is next in a long line of BBF’s non-league superstars with remarkable goalscoring pedigree in his short career. Coulthirst was a questionable 4th round pick but if he’s traded him for Wolves’ first choice striker then that could prove shrewd drafting. Lacazette will be traded to Hurley by October. After moving the entire draft on his whim, be assured that professional football watcher BBF will stop at nothing to win the league this year.

The RFF GOAT has got his mojo back. As unlucky a start to the season as you’ll ever see last year meant variance royally screwed Torn over. A resolute turnaround in the second half of the season saw Torn escape relegation and win the RFA cup (again). It is understood a new scouting system available to Torn will make his recruitment even stronger this year. Jordan Rhodes is very 2012 but Kodjia, Pitman and Marquis will score goals. O’Grady returns to League Two where he should have too much for defences. A poor debut for Ashley Fletcher could see 14/15 league winner Patrick Bamford move back into the first XI and become an inspired pick from what was essentially the 7th round. Mertens is a curious signing but plays for the most attacking team in Europe.

What a turnaround by Truancy FC last season. Years of absence and jammy finishes seem like a lifetime ago as SheltonLondon finished in the top 6 and has won the draft. Moussa Dembele somehow made his way down to him and if he can keep his hamstring together has incredible goalscoring potential. Robert Lewandowski is a sure thing to score each week, at least once. Nelson Oliveira plays for an attacking side and showed his quality off the bench last week. Diedhiou has made an impressive start for Bristol City and Danny Graham plays in front of a very attacking midfield. IF he can maintain his interest then he has all the tools to win the league.

What a turnaround by Truancy FC last season. Years of absence and jammy finishes seem like a lifetime ago as SheltonLondon finished in the top 6 and has won the draft. Moussa Dembele somehow made his way down to him and if he can keep his hamstring together has incredible goalscoring potential. Robert Lewandowski is a sure thing to score each week, at least once. Nelson Oliveira plays for an attacking side and showed his quality off the bench last week. Diedhiou has made an impressive start for Bristol City and Danny Graham plays in front of a very attacking midfield. IF he can maintain his interest then he has all the tools to win the league.
