Should have figured that Shane elbow was ending the show. Wasn't that the same way the build to Shane vs. Taker capped off last year? Decent enough build for the match so far, kind of expecting it might be be one of the better matches on the show thanks to AJ being goddamn fantastic and Shane being willing to bump like a motherfucker.
Pretty good show tonight, better than last week. Pretty glad I watched.

For the most part Smackdown feels like these feuds are running on fumes to get to Wrestlemania, the one downside to having such a long stretch between PPVs at this crucial point.
The AJ/Shane segment was OK. I know what they were going for but Shane attacking AJ in the garage would've had a better effect.
Miz stuff, fantastic. Tag team match very good. I just don't know how you can continue to run them as a feud just by having matches without any out-of-ring shenanigans happen without there being a match.
Setting up the womens title match, great. I may have missed a little, was Dolph around? Overall a good Smackdown moving along to 'Mania, lots of sign pointing stuff. Extra points for that. At the sign, not a points system.
For what it's worth, there's been a number of allegations that Chrisley sexually harasses both men and women who work on that show...
based on that exhibition-- I don't know about that.
I'm sure AJ will overcompensate for Shane's lack of wrestling ability.

That's what I thought. As soon as they said "what's up AJ?" Shane should have blasted him from behind. He could have even dropped a elbow off one of their ring trucks so they could still and with Shane looking strong using his signature elbow drop.

Not in Vince McMahon's universe. Like it or not we're getting AJ VS Shane. AJ will put on a show, Shane will take a big bump. AJ gets a big Wrestlemania win and payday from daddy Vince for having a classic WM moment with his son Shane.
As much as it does sort of waste AJ because he is capable of more it's good because no matter what a spot with Shane at Wrestlemania will be highlighted because Shane's last name is McMahon. Unless AJ breaks Shane's neck with a Styles Clash his career will be better for having a classic with Shane.

The Shane Elbow used to be a big deal. Now it's just a tv spot and usually is just an appetizer for something bigger.

Last year he wanted to do something off the big jumbotron they have at the Dallas stadium and like with Charlotte wanting to moonsault off the Cell they said NOPE. Maybe this time he will do something insane like that idk but I'm sure it'll be cool.

and yeah a moonsault off the cell is way riskier of a bump than just jumping off it on your back. so much more can go wrong
I don't think you can do a Moonsault off something that high safely. Think of how dangerous a Moonsault off a regular cage into the ring is and then multiply that. On the floor you have way less landing space, tons of stuff to hit, you could hit the cage with your head or body and you're rotating back. And then you have to time the rotation correctly to account for how high up you are. Probably more dangerous than Foley being tossed off the Cell by Undertaker, and the Cell is like five feet taller than it was back then.
Just jumping off a ladder would be kind of tame for Shane. Probably something more along the lines of jumping off the Titan Tron (or whatever they call it now). Or jumping off the canopy over the ring, but I think there's a landing issue there. When he jumps off the set they can set up a crash area away from the fans down on the stage.

I think that's been the glaring issue with the Smackdown tag team championships. Let's take a look at the past 3 champions:
Heath Slater/Rhyno-Ton of momentum going in and even more potential coming out but the WWE failed to do a damn thing with them after they won. I fucking hated Heath Slater until halfway through that Free Agent angle and he won me over with the trailer park segment with him, Rhyno, Renee Young, and his "family". But the WWE did absolutely NOTHING with these guys and it's a shame.
The Wyatt Family-In terms of what their tag victory did to progress that particular storyline, it did help but they then lost the belts randomly to Alpha after only a couple weeks.
American Alpha-Ton of hype coming in to the main roster. They win the belts, pinning Orton-that's huge, but then what happened? What feuds? The Usos rivalry has been there but it was 90% in-ring. 1 or 2 non-wrestling segments between them. Not to mention, it seems like The Usos are freestyling while Alpha is out there with some ghost writer and these corny lines, but AA was never really about the promos in NXT, they were about getting the job done. Idk, I don't want to say Alpha's run sucked, but it did lack SOMETHING and that SOMETHING was a heated feud and maybe the Usos/Alpha feud will get to that point but I think it's going to take a team like Ascension, Revival, or maybe a team from Raw, maybe a team that hasn't been put together yet.
I dig the Usos. Always liked their matches, love their personalities now. I hope they can pull it off and make the SD tag-team title scene as interesting as the other 3 divisions they have.
The fans were loving them last night. It was the most over they have been in a long time. They pretty much transformed into cool heels. Even on talking smack, they are treated as cool and hip. Hard to boo that
The heel turn started out alright at first because they weren't talking. Then they went on Talking Smack and Jimmy started doing the promo about how he was Shawn and his brother was Marty, hilarious. So every Talking Smack it was like they'd get love from Renee and Bryan, especially Bryan, so it was like, are they even heels? Or are they walking that line? If they make the Usos a team that could go up against heels AND faces it leaves a lot of room to do some different stuff.
Speaking of DIFFERENT. Why not just release Tyler Breeze instead of totally killing him last night? Seriously....I get being slapped by Stephanie, but when you get the fucking AA and the shitty STF put on you by Nikki....Just wow.
To me it was a mistake to have Slater and Rhyno as the first champions. The payoff to that storyline being that Slater won a match to get a contract would have been more than enough, no need to make the joke team your first champions when you're trying to establish the new belts.
Orton and Wyatt were awesome and I wish their run had gone longer. I would have been cool with them anchoring the tag division for six months, I think they were a great team and brought credibility and prestige to the tag titles.
American Alpha just haven't really gotten going on Smackdown yet. I don't know exactly what it is. They were crazy over in NXT. Do they need more matches to showcase themselves? They have a fast, high-impact style that crowds will naturally get into.
On this note, it seems like WWE would save a lot of money if they just fired the bottom quarter of their roster and used guys on nightly deals to do jobs instead. Like, rather than paying Breeze and Fandango $100,000/year (or whatever), they could just bring them in for $500/night if they wanted them to show up and lose. Like "hey Tyler, we need somebody for a match on Smackdown next week. Can you make it?" and if he has an indy date booked they call somebody else.
This would suck for the guys, but I think it would freshen up the show if we had some different people wrestling in job matches each week. Mix it up between local indy guys and guys who used to work for WWE (like when they brought the Headbangers in for those matches back in the fall).
I liked how Jordan used the angle slam last night. Maybe just maybe bring Angle in as a mentor to get them back on track.
Like what the hell was that about? They literally had Breeze take a spear, finisher, and tap out to Nikki in like 2 seconds. I get it's a work but that's just embarrassing.

I don't think the issue with American Alpha is a lack of being over, it's the lack of quality opponents to build anticipation. Who gets excited to know American Alpha's option are what they are? Every team on Smackdown but the Usos are jobber teams. Ascension, Vauds, and Fashion Police are jobbers. They couldn't even handle rebuilding Ascension for more than a couple weeks before giving up on them. So they need to bring in Revival, a team from Raw, or create something new.
This is why they shouldn't have split up the tag teams onto 2 rosters. Same w/ the women. Instead of there being a mountain top to make it to the top of... there are 2 hill tops.
Maybe, but looking at recent house show results I think they could easily just sub in some local or nightly guys in the bottom spots and not lose anything. Like here are the results from a Smackdown house show from the other night:

I don't think this show would have lost much if they'd used a local guy instead of Viktor and maybe replaced that six man tag match with a singles match between Mickie and Becky.
Yeah good point. They could easily condense the show. Instead of a 6 man tag, you have a regular tag or a singles. You can also split up the women in two matches.

Yeah, and it's weird because I've heard one reason Vince isn't into tag teams is that it means you have to pay four guys instead of just two for a match. But here they're doing a six man tag no one cares about just to get guys on the card. I guess the logic is "well, we're paying them no matter what, might as well use them."
The fact that they don't fire people anymore and just wait until their contracts expire is another of those "good for the boys, bad for business" things that I find strange. Maybe Vince is just getting soft in his old age?
You just know that Tamina vs. Nia will be a much hyped battle of the clunkers one day.

I think Phillips has done a solid job on commentary the last couple weeks. Don't like him as much as Mauro but he's done well for himself. The booth is less of a mess with only three (and it was nice when it was just Phillips and JBL last week). If I were running things I'd probably pair the booths back to two men each, put Mauro on Raw with Graves and have Phillips call Smackdown with JBL. Move Cole into a producer's role, have him coach the announcers, let him do sit-down interviews. I don't hate Cole, but he's been the voice of Raw for nearly ten years now and it could use some freshening up.
Otunga can go back to do promotional work for the company, if Byron has any personality make him a manager. Or just let him go.
The 3 man booth only works when you have a set up like Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, and Vince or Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan, and Zybsko. Basically you need the pitch man (Vince), the heel veteran (Lawler), and the play by play (Jim Ross). The problem Raw for example has is you have two pitch men in Cole and Byron. Byron was a wrestler, but he offers zero insight and he has really no cred because he didn't really accomplish anything as a wrestler.
Smackdown has a weird set up w/ that 4-man team. WCW made it work but it only worked when Tenay would come in for a couple matches and those were almost always the international guys just to educate the fans because you know Mongo could barely spell his own name let alone tell you the background of Ultimo Dragon or Lizmark Jr. Smackdown kind of does it like WCW but Phillips isn't the Tenay. It'd be like having Cole just show up and plug the upcoming WWE movie or ppv real quick and it's just a pointless position for Jeff Phillips to have when Mauro or even Otunga's useless ass could do that stuff easily. Maybe it's just to give a different feel to SD versus Raw. But if you notice, when it's the 4 of them, only 3 of them talk during the match. Julio Phillips has zero audio going on during the match. It's like having Sean Mooney randomly come out to interrupt Gorilla and Ventura to tell us about Summerslam instead of his "in the studio" segments where they'd do all that.
haha, that's pretty funny. The only thing I got to see on Smackdown was the Miz and Maryse making fun of them and holy shit Miz was perfect, even the way Cena has his ghetto ass sticking out all the time like he's just programmed to be ready for Vince to fuck him in the ass.
I still just can't shake that the WWE seriously looked up and down the roster and thought pairing him up with Nikki was the best route to go for Mania. I don't mind The Miz v. John Cena, The Miz is one of the top acts in the company, arguably the top heel of either brand, the guy gets pretty zero love unless sometimes when he's shitting on Cena-nothing new there. But even then Cena's been getting the majority of the crowd pops when they interact so that's god for John. Looking back we're going to go damn, had John and Miz just had a singles match with their women in their corner, it would have been so much better. They could literally do everything they've done including burying Tyler Breeze once and for all and it'd be fine.
This whole plastic relationship between Cena and Nikki just kills the whole thing. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I saw more passion between Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley than I saw between Cena and Nikki. Trophy wives don't last.
That Tag match was great.
Neville vs. Ali was pretty damn good. Reckon they could have an even better match if it didn't have a bunch of focus on Aries at ringside, though the match did a great job building the rivalry for the CW Title match at Mania.
Fuck I love The Miz and Maryse. That was great stuff. Seems pretty accurate too from clips I've seen.
As someone who's watched Total Bellas and every season of Total Divas and subscribes to the Bellas youtube channel, they really could have done a lot more...but then, most of it probably wouldn't have made sense to the folks that don't watch all that, so they probably intentionally kept it a bit more general.

No, it was far from it. Mostly chinlocks so they could show Shane walking around backstage.
Yeah last week's match was pitiful in comparison. I was really taken out of it by the constant shots of Shane stumbling around backstage like did we really need that? It would have been better if she just walked out during the match, stumbled in the ring mid-match, and made his announcement. Cut out all that other bs.
