Very much looking forward to this. Legit Oscar buzz for Sandler. Not sure if anybody else posted the trailer or not yet.

I'm a super mark for most horror movies/t.v. shows from the 60's to the late 90's. I just picked up the Friday the 13th t.v. show box set from Wal Mart the other day. Has zero to do with the movie franchise but it's still pretty cool.

Thanks for the info on Conjuring and Insidious. Those are honestly the only 2 horror movies that have really jumped out at me over the last several years. I'm not even that big into the remakes of Halloween, Nightmare, Friday the 13th. I just heard they are remaking Nightmare on Elm St again...what the fuck? This isn't Spider-Man.

You know what else is cool though? The Evil Dead movie that came out a few years ago, I thought that was pretty good. Love the show on Starz!

Yeah, that last Evil Dead was pretty good, and deserved the sequel people were talking about where it would cross over with the original Bruce Campbell timeline. Shame that never worked out.

I thought for some reason the cross over was the Starz! show but maybe this is like some alternate universe shit.

Saw Annabelle: Creation last night. Some cool parts with nice suspense and build to the final act. The film started to run dry towards the end and turned into a cliche horror film, but all in all, decent show. The best part was a 3 minute clip for IT, which looks very intriguing. I'd give Annabelle: C a 3/5 review. I'd give my excitement for IT a 5/5 thrill.

The My Bloody Valentine remake was complete dog shit, the original (uncut version) is a decent slasher for its time.

I remember being tremendously bored throughout the remake and the shoehorned in 3d bits were laughable.

Logan Lucky was great. In the same vein as Ocean's Eleven that Soderbergh also directed. 8/10.

I watched "Sleight" the other night. Not a bad movie, weird concept. I wasn't sure exactly what the movie was about but the description sounded cool.

I can't tell if that is just a brushed up picture for promo purposes or if they CGI'd some of that like Captain America style. Question....Is this going to be like The Doors where it's 99.9% about Mercury or is this a Queen movie about the entire band? I guess technically it's one in the same, not very many people out there caring about Brian May (bastards!!).

The plot is a "chronicle of the band's years leading up to their iconic Live Aid concert." So from that it sounds like it's a bit more of the band than it is just of Mercury himself, but I suppose it could still focus mostly on Mercury.

I remember hearing years ago when Sacha Baron Cohen was still attached to play Mercury that Brian May and the rest of the guys objected to a script being just about Mercury. Not sure if that's 100% true or not.

Roger Taylor is greater than or equal to Brian May.

Ah shit I forgot about Cohen possibly playing Mercury, that would have been interesting.

Eh, to each his own. Trust me, I always get a little sour when people are talking about Alice In Chains and only bring up Layne and Jerry Cantrell but don't bring up Sean Kinney as he's one of the best drummers I've ever heard.

Did you know he kept the cat they found at Layne's apt when they discovered his body? That was like literally all the guy had other than the clothes on his back.

A movie about Alice In Chains would be the fucking shit. Very depressing, almost tragic when you consider the trials and tribulations of that band over a 30 year span.

Yep, Mike Starr. The only time I ever watched that show was that season, it was pretty rugged. That dude and Tom Sizemore were fucked up beyond repair. I think that was also when they had the Crazy Town dork on there. Side note, that band still exists. One of my buddies Likewize just did a show with them.

    Why? He likes star tats.

Haha yeah that was the only season I ever watched too! Rodney King was on it too. I would watch it and be amazed Sizemore and Starr were still alive at that point.

Didn't know what to expect from this, but it was very good. Huge amount of fun, and way more accessible that some of Wheatley's other efforts.

I'd read somewhere that this movie is going to be PG13, or whatever the equivalent is. So it looks like we won't get a party scene where midgets are walking around with plates of cocaine on their heads. Which is a shame.

I haven't seen it yet, but Darren Aronofsky's "mother!" got an F on CinemaScore. Most of what I've read about it sounds batshit insane and unnerving.

    It's got a 75 on Metacritic.

Batshit insane and unnerving in an Aronofsky film? Shocking. I'll watch it when it hits Netflix.

Went to see mother! last night. I actually liked it. It's not a perfect film, but it's definitely not a bad film. If you've seen Aronofsky's other films you should already know what to expect. 8/10 from me.

I don't think I've ever rooted so hard for someone to succeed like I have Tom Cruise. The man was a major part of my childhood, starring in many of my favorite movies. He is easily a top actor of mine. Looking online at some of the reviews for American Made put a smile on my face. 61 reviews, 89% positive. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this movie.

For every classic there is at least 2 stinkers in the Cruise archive.

The Mummy and Rock of Ages up there with the worst. For me Minority Report, Edge of Tomorrow and Magnolia are his best.

Jerry McGuire, A Few Good Men, Mission Impossible, Risky Business, Born on the 4th of July, Days of Thunder... all personal favorites of mine.

Cruise was great in Tropic Thunder, War of the Worlds, Collateral as well...

Again, just a solid career. There is no actor in Hollywood who sells intensity better than Cruise. Where he lacks in acting, he makes up for it with emotion and intensity.

Even though the movie was mediocre, I thought Cruise was great in Cocktail.

I also loved him in Eyes Wide Shut and Vanilla Sky.

I would reference his speech in A Few Good Men, his dialogue with key characters in Jerry McGuire or his murder scenes in Collateral. He is just an overall, intense guy when in his role.

Right he is no where near the most intense actor in hollywood. Go watch anything with Michael Shannon for a kick off.

Went to "American Made" on Thursday. Tom Cruise was in damn near every minute of the film, did a great job; the film contained a lot more humor than I thought it would.

    Would definitely recommend.

Brawl in Cell Block 99: This film is brilliant. If you loved the director's previous film, Bone Tomahawk, I suggest you check this out. 9/10.

The Death of Stalin: Really funny and quite dark at some points. Paul Whitehouse and Jason Issacs were the standouts for me. 8/10.

    The Babysitter: Avoid. 3/10

Been asked to cover the London Korean Film Festival, and been sent a few documentaries to review for another magazine. Picking up my first press pass tonight.

    I also went to the London Film Festival, and saw Pick Ups;

    It wasn't very good. And I also saw Last Flag Flying;

Which I fell asleep through. It wasn't very good either.

Shimmer Lake on Netflix was a decent film. Not too long, quite funny in places, not sure I'd go as far to recommend it, but it was pretty mindless entertainment for a comedy-thriller.

Went to BFI and saw Three Billboards. It's excellent. My guys also covered shape of water, florida project, wonderstruck, downsizing and a few other awards buzz titles.

I've been writing for moviehooker.com for a while, he has seemed to have built up quite the following for that kind of genre. Top Google results etc. So me and him put our heads together and ended up with some screeners and a press pass. I'm double booked tomorrow for the opening gala, but ill be seeing a few others and attending the closing one.

I remember the first few to be quite enjoyable, and slowly declining towards the end of the series.

It's the 8th in the series. I think it's been 7 years since the 7th came out. Really they stopped because Paranormal Craptivity took over the Halloween frame each year. Now that's gone, there's a void left.

I watched The Killing of a Sacred Deer last night. Downright unnerving throughout. The characters and dialogue within the family are off-kilter and excruciatingly honest by default, before things start to go wrong. Some of the lines are played as if it's a very dark comedy. You can't take your eyes off Barry Keoghan when he's on-screen and revealing himself to be more and more disturbed over time. The music is terrific - eerie at times and overwhelming when the screws start to turn. Not sure I'd recommend this to a friend but it was certainly interesting.

I think given it's been 7 years since the last one, that it may seem fresh. Just cranking one out year after year gets tiresome real quick.

Very much looking forward to this. In college one of my poli sci classes focused on the relationship between media and the government and we studied the Pentagon papers case extensively. Obviously I assume a good portion of this will be changed from what actually happened but it's an intriguing case.

I watched Brigsby Bear a few nights ago. Missed it in theaters for the brief time that it was out, so I was able to see this the day it was released. Just the right amount of time and a good story developed. In a way it reminded me of Lars and the Real Girl.

God i had erased Grimsby from my memory. What a piece of trash that was.

I thought a cure for wellness was a complete mess, so many questions unanswered, utterly pointless plot points and the pacing was agonisingly slow.

It's been a while since I saw it but I remember having pretty much figured out the film within 45 mins. All the foreshadowing is so obvious that you would either have to not be paying attention at all or completely stupid not to pick up on how the film resolves.

Well this was bloody amazing. It was raw and emotive. The performances were strong particularly the child actors.

Not completely sold on the ending but I'm guessing there was a dream element to it.

    Would highly recommend.

Possibly going to see it tonight. It's that or Daddy's Home 2. Think it depends on how much beer we have at the Christmas Market beforehand.

Finally got to see American Assassin last night. Missed it in the theater. I've been reading the books since they first came out and I was pumped to see them finally make the transition to film.

It was okay. Nothing to spectacular but not bad either. The ending was pretty cool but I can see how it wouldn't appeal to those that hadn't read the books. Bloodier than I would have expected, but anytime somebody gets killed with their own arm bone, I'm a fan.

Haven't seen many this year, but I really enjoyed Annabelle: Creation, Get Out, and A Cure for the Wellness.

Hard to say, as I haven't seen so many of the big ones. The Villainess, The Love Witch, Tower (Documentary) or Elle spring to mind.

Last few weeks I've watched Life, Hacksaw Ridge, Mudbound and The Big Sick. Not sure where they'd feature, certainly not best film of the year territory, but all very good. Life especially was quite fun to watch.

    Tower was deeply moving.

Life is an underrated creature feature with a great ending.

I think Dunkirk is still my number one, but John Wick: Chapter 2 was probably the most fun I've had in the cinema all year.

    Are those in order?

Never knew I'd seen so many movies this year until I saw that list and realised I'd probably seen 80%-90% of them myself.

Did we talk about "Mother" here, or did I missed the discussion? Wondering what peoples thoughts were on it.

How in the blue hell was Justice League better than The LEGO Batman Movie? The latter didn't reach the heights of the original LEGO Movie, but it was still fun. Justice League was just a grating experience for the most part.

I quite liked a couple of things about JL whereas I found Lego Batman to be the same joke over and over and over. I thought they were both pretty pish tbh.
