I'm out at least for most of the show. I might be able to catch the main event live. I'll have to watch the rest later tonight or tomorrow.

The more times New Day loses the belts, the more times they can win it back...

    Clap for your...

"Soon to be three time champs"
    "Three time champs"
"Soon to be four time champs"
    "Four time champs"
"Soon to be five time champs"
    "Five time champs"
    "etc"

    And FEEL the POWER!

They've built a whole speil that functions around New Day losing the titles for awhile and then winning those titles back...
Which is why I'm fine with PTP's reign and fine with a Dudleys reign. I'm sure the Usos will get another reign in there too...

New Day is functionally the on-again off-again tag team champions of the company...
They are THE heel team that all of the face teams fight for the belt over...

We're getting this tag match instead of Ziggler/Rusev?

    Ok, I've decided.

During the cage match, Sheamus should come out and hand the briefcase to the ringside ref. He walks through the door of the cage and immediately back out to the floor. He picks up the WWE Title and leaves. While Seth freaks, Cena wins.

I almost forgot how much more tolerable an event can be without Michael Cole.

Once again, we see the random face team working well together and the random heel team being selfish vindictive assholes...

You would think they would want Cole to be here with such a big event on the network.

They also need to give these Live Specials a name. I guess I'm OK with "Live from MSG", but could they not have come up with something better? "Beast in the East" was so boss.

It just goes to show how huge a drawing power Lesnar is. Without him, these specials would mean nothing.

I would guess Bryan has been working with Brie on her striking...
She has gotten really good at throwing elbows and kicks...

Brie still has problems making a match fluid...
There's a noticeable difference between the way Nikki goes from one move to the next and the way Brie does...

Paige's idea of friendship is about as warped as Vince's idea of the Bellas' entertainment value.

That would make sense in a world where Paige could remember what happened last week. But she's just crazy and those gals are catty. Sigh.

There's being a massive hypocrite and being outright delusional. She literally did not remember what she had just done, and the commentators just acted like she was crazy. Because in WWE, that's all women are.

I can't help but think Captain Insano would've lasted longer than the Big Show.

They certainly made it seem that way. Kind of a lousy way to go out if that's the case.

Definitely feels like they changed it to Brock/Show so Show could put Brock over on his way out. Would have loved if they had done Mark Henry vs. Brock instead. It's so easy for Henry to get hot. Let him smash some guys and you know he'll knock the promos out of the park.

I hate the door. Only time it was used well was that Anderson/Angle Cage in TNA where that was the only way to escape and you had to beat the shit out of your opponent and incapacitate them.

That used to be how all WWF cage matches were. I much prefer that idea, that was the point of fighting in a cage - you hate this opponent so much you're going to maul them and then walk away when you decide you're done.

Cage match psychology has been abysmal since they added pinfalls. Eugh, Seth looks like he doesn't give a crap about the US title now...

That's what used to set the WWF's cage matches apart from WCW's (well, that and the blue cage with the big square holes). It seems like, amongst other things, the WWE inherited WCW's cage match rules.

The best door spot was Chris Jericho vs. X-Pac, when X-Pac went to climb out and Jericho dropkicked the cage so X-Pac landed crotch first on the door...

Fun show. Cage match was MOTN. Glad they combined the two matches I didn't care about into a tag match I didn't care about. Corporate Kane is awesome, Demon Kane is shit, the man himself is doing a top notch job with this, so this angle is equal parts stupid and kind of great.

I'm still a tad bit surprised that Vince could resist giving Jericho and the Dudleys their 10th titles on the same special. Also, while I would have hated it, this is the type of show where a MITB should have been cashed in. They could then hype up "you never know what will happen on the WWE Network" and build the shock value of it.

I like how Rich Brennan calls the name of the moves... the only problem is, he gets it wrong half the time. But then again, Cole never calls the action and just goes "oh my!"

    Pick your poison I guess.

Looked like Brock fucked-up his first F-5 attempt-- so he kinda sorta AA'd him instead... Thus the additional F-5's.

decent event. The IC/US title matches being the most solid.

I thought the show was fun as hell. Plenty of good wrestling between Stardust/Neville, Dudleyz/New Day and the main event which was particularly good. Not to mention some interesting stuff going on with the Divas and Kane.

I'm not so sure Show is just flat out retired now. I'd say it's more like the beginning of his retirement angle if anything. I mean he's Kayfabe top five so he's getting an official retirement match.

Really enjoyed the show more than the hype within the recent shows for it. Nitpicking but no title changes was a bit meh, but the show was pretty solid from start to finish.

Yeah, the less creative is involved the better WWE is. Feels like they could be a hell of a promotion if they just went with straight wrestling instead of all the other stuff they try to throw in. I think they just need to get back to basics: Book heat, get the heels over, clear face/heel divides, make the titles and match outcomes matter. Just get wrestling 101 straight before trying to do the harder stuff. They seem to be going really heavy on the "no faces and heels" lately and it's really not working for anybody.

I agree with that other than a clear face/heel divide. It's 2015, anti-heroes and villains are so big in entertainment, I just don't think a modern audience is going to be ok with being told who to cheer and who to boo. You'd have to make Kevin Owens a child molester to get the audience to actually hate him, because he's exciting and talented and they like that. I say just let the wrestlers be who they want to be and the crowd will react accordingly. No heels and no faces isn't working now specifically because the writers are churning out empty feuds and limp segments and just slotting the 'characters' in at random. Rusev's still booked like a face most of the time. Ziggler's an asshole but I guess we're supposed to like him because he's stealing the foreign guy's woman? Look at the women, every one of them some catty lunatic who just does whatever random shit that particular segment expects then acts completely differently a few days later. "Today we're besties! Today we're enemies! Today I'm on your side! No now I'm on their side!"

Yeah I meant to say that as well. It felt like a good episode of Raw.

And I really enjoy the commentating on these "house show specials". They just call the moves and talk about the match in front of them. Even JBL wasn't that bad.

While Kevin Owens gets a lot of cheers, there's really no question he's a heel. He's a dick, a coward, and cheats to win his matches. The real sources of face/heel confusion is stuff like Big Show (constantly, sometimes seemingly switching face and heel within one segment), Triple H and Stephanie, Seth Rollins being put at a disadvantage and forced to be heroic, and really the entire women's division (Bellas also seem to turn not just from week to week, but within segments).

Of those, The Authority is the biggest problem. They're two of the most important characters on the show, and their motivations just don't seem coherent. Are they trying to make money? Or just have Seth as champion? Why do they put Seth in disadvantageous situations? Why the fuck don't they just fire Kane?

I liked the Show last night. Ive seen people complaining about it and I am thinking why? It wasn't a PPV it was a Televised House Show like they did in the 80s/90s from MSG,Boston Garden, and Philly. I don't know what people were really expecting. One thing i would have changed was have the Dudleyz win the Tag Titles but drop them back to New Day at HIAC. A minor gripe though for me.

There's no question Owens is an asshole as a character, but that's no reason to pigeon-hole him and try to force the crowd to boo him at every turn. Not that they're really doing that, they're leaving him alone for the most part right now, but I just mean in general any effort to clearly say "ok everyone this person's a heel now so you can't respect or like them in any way and they'll never be allowed to do a single thing that you'll like" is always going to backfire. The audience rebels against that shit constantly.

I totally agree that the characters need coherent motivations. I don't see any reason we can't have 'heel' Triple H screw with 'heel' Seth Rollins. It's not the 80s any more, they don't have to be on the same team just because they're both 'bad guys'. But they do have to write the characters to have actual reasons for the stuff they do, and it's always so haphazard and random now that whether heels and faces notionally exist or not seems moot. I think we'd both be satisfied with the characters just making some sense.

    - I'd say that's a damned fine reason to pigeon-hole him. The man is in fact a HEEL; and an old school one at that... none of that benign pandering that most of the "cool heels" do.

Much like with Austin, Owens will be turned face organically due to appreciation of his character work, but for now he is perfecting the role of what a heel is supposed to be. Wrestling had nowhere to go after the attitude era in regard to the whole "shades of gray"- thing.

It kind of fucked things for this shitty PG era that we're in.

I love it when Owens acts like he's going to do a crowd pleasing move, and then performs a headlock or something... love even more that he's single handedly responsible for bringing the eye-rake back into the fold; as a precursor to a pin.

When/if he feuds with Daniel Bryan-- that's when the majority of the casuals will really start to hate his fucking guts. If they run an angle where he promptly "re-injures" the returning hero in the lead-up to Wrestlemania-- people will be calling for his head.

KO and Dean Ambrose are the only two modern day wrestlers on the roster who are capable of provoking white hot, rabid heat from the crowd as heels if they are truly allowed to go off-script and go balls-out with it. but Vince is too out of touch to realize this.

You can't have a true face without a heel that everyone wants to see have his ass handed to him. That's why Hogan wouldn't have been as big as he was if Piper wasn't there to antagonize the shit out of the crowd. This is no longer the "Attitude Era." There HAS to be a clear-cut line between the face/heel in this day and age.

I would bet any amount of money, that if Dean Ambrose was allowed to be the type of piece of shit, slime-ball heel - character that he perfected on the indies-- and they paired him- off with John Cena in the main event-- WWE could once again return to being must see TV. And if he toned down a lot of the cheese factor in his gimmick; John could be the uber-face that Vince so desperately wants him to be.

And all of this could be attained without even necessarily abandoning the PG rating.

(in regard to Triple H)- Because it makes no fucking sense whatsoever. Rollins is supposed to be his "diamond" and all of that happy horseshit; so why would they want to fuck over their investment by making shit lopsided for him??? it doesn't mesh with the whole aforementioned "diamond" storyline.

Trips and Steph are too concerned with getting respect-pops to focus on being the shit authority role heels that they are supposed to be; Steph being credited onscreen for the "Divas Revolution"; Sting coming out on RAW and sucking Hunters cock for ten minutes over Rollins not being "Half the man that Triple H is"; and then of course there's the Sting/Trips match at WM... Hunter blasts him in the head with a sledgehammer, and then shakes his hand at the end of the match...(which Sting is totally cool with btw) and then comes out for the Rock/Rousey segment completely unscathed; shit-talking Sting after just having showed him some respect after their feud.

I know that Sting's shit booking has been about Vince's hatred for all things WcW from the jump... but if Trips had any common sense, seeing as he's been in the business for many years-- he would have vetoed a lot of that shit... jumping back-and-forth between heat and crowd-pops is counterproductive.

And the whole Kane debacle: I have to admit that Glen is knocking this shit storyline out of the park... his backstage promo with Renee at MSG was hilarious. if they could somehow filter out all of the supernatural bullshit; and perhaps just play it more tongue in cheek with Kane losing his shit... perhaps alter the fruit-roll-up mask and Halloween costume they have him wear a little bit; make him look truly bat-shit crazy, etc...

but in hindsight; yeah... the Authority should just fucking fire him... it makes no sense storyline-wise why they haven't yet done so.

    good ol' WWE logic.

Unless WWE is going to back KO or Dean and run with an anti-authority/Austin-esque storyline, (which they clearly will not) they need to do their best to make sure that KO does all that he can do to turn-off the casual fanbase completely. Obviously, that's not gonna work with smarks and the like... the more of an evil prick he becomes-- the more we will all appreciate and love him.

That's precisely my point, though - the crowd will hate him if he pulls that stuff on Daniel Bryan because they like Daniel Bryan. They enjoyed it when he was messing with Cena because they (or a good portion of them) don't like Cena. Therefore, he can't really be pigeon-holed, he's just an ass who wrecks whoever he feels like and from a fan's perspective sometimes that's good and sometimes it isn't. It's just like real life and not the silly pantomime of the 1980s where all the bad guys were in bed with each other and vice versa. There's no need to 'turn' Owens anything, just have him act appropriately with the appropriate opponents that will make sense. WWE turning characters into something they are not just so they are on the 'right team' is what wrecks characters all the time.
