Rebooking with a twist: WrestleMania 2

Alright, time for round two. As before, the rules are as follows:

    • No matches from the actual show can be on the card you create.
    • All champions must be the same as those heading into that year's WrestleMania.
    • You can use any member of the active roster at the time - for example with WrestleMania 1, you can use anybody on the WWF roster in March of 1985 regardless of whether they were actually on WrestleMania 1 or not.
    • If a celebrity PARTICIPATES in a match at a particular WrestleMania, they must be in a match on the rebooked version.
    • Try to make the show consistent with the time period - for example, no Hell in a Cell matches in 1987. Imagine you are starting the booking towards each Mania in early January of the year. Obviously you can change the Rumble winner as that would otherwise make things quite tricky.

If you missed my go at WrestleMania 1, find it here - https://forums.rajah.com/showthread....WrestleMania-1

    Now then...

    WRESTLEMANIA 2 - APRIL 7, 1986

    NASSAU COLISEUM, LONG ISLAND, NY:

    1. British Bulldogs (w/Lou Albano) def. Hart Foundation (w/Jimmy Hart)

The night's action kicks off with some hot tag team action as two teams who had been going at it for the better part of the past year face off and fire the crowd up. The Bulldogs get the win to keep them strong as future contenders in the tag title hunt.

    2. BOXING MATCH: Mr T def. Bob Orton

The Saturday Night Main Event match happens here. Orton had been knocking out superstars in boxing contests heading into Mania so he issued a challenge for the show, answered by the A-Team star. T knocks the Cowboy out after a couple of rounds to end this angle.

    3. WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Randy Savage (c) (w/Miss Elizabeth) def. Tito Santana

Savage had beaten Tito in controversial fashion earlier in the year to capture the I.C title, so we get a rematch here on the big stage to blow the rivalry off. Savage comes out on top in what is a solid battle between two capable performers - quite the improvement from the I.C match on the original Mania 2 card.

    4. Bruno Sammartino def. Roddy Piper (w/Bob Orton) via DQ

Our main event in New York sees the retirement match of the Living Legend as he does battle with one of the most hated men in the company. The Hot Rod takes the fight to the legendary former champion but Bruno does not back down. Ultimately interference from Cowboy Bob Orton, making his presence known for the second time in the night, leads to the ref disqualifying Piper. A heel beat down follows, but Sammartino comes back and drives the tandem from the ring to go out to a standing ovation.

    ROSEMONT HORIZON, CHICAGO, IL:

    5. WWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Dream Team (c) (w/Johnny V) def. Killer Bees

Like in New York, the Chicago portion of the card also kicks off with tag team action, this time with the reigning champions putting the gold on the line against another new tandem to arrive on the scene. After some back and forth tag team action, the champions retain after heel shenanigans, continuing their reign and setting them up for a run against the Bulldogs over the next few months.

    6. WWF WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP: Leilani Kai def. Fabulous Moolah (c)

Since we aren't getting another title change on the show, I'm getting a change here to pop the crowd. Since there weren't all that many challengers out there to fill this slot, Kai has turned face, sick of Moolah hogging the spotlight in the division. She gets the win against her former mentor in a quick encounter to fill out the card.

    7. William Perry, Bill Fralic, Ernie Holmes, Russ Francis, Harvey Martin & Jimbo Covert (w/Eddie Jones) vs Big John Studd, Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, Hercules Hernandez, Ted Arcidi & Adrian Adonis (w/Freddie Blassie) - DOUBLE DQ

We get the NFL vs WWF cross promotional match here in a big ten man tag. Big John Studd leads a team of WWF superstars against the selection of NFL players captained by Chicago's own Refrigerator after taking offence to the NFL stars being part of Mania. This turns into an all out brawl that is thrown out when fighting occurs amongst all the participants in the match. Chicago gets its moment as Perry and Studd have a confrontation as the ring clears, with the Fridge sending the giant packing.

    8. Andre the Giant def. King Kong Bundy (w/Bobby Heenan)

The battle of the monsters headlines the Chicago portion of WrestleMania 2. The build here is essentially a replica of the Hogan/Bundy feud from the original card, with Bundy going on an unstoppable tear heading into Mania and sidelining the great Andre at the Saturday Night's Main Event a few weeks before. Andre gets his revenge here to end this part of the card on a high note.

    SPORTS ARENA, LOS ANGELES, CA:

    9. Jake Roberts def. Ricky Steamboat

Los Angeles kicks off with the start of what would rage on as a heated rivalry throughout the summer of 1986. Jake is fairly new on the scene here and has picked a fight with another rising star in the Dragon. The two put on a solid outing with the Snake going over here with the DDT after some back and forth action. After the match, Steamboat faces the wrath of the python and this feud will continue as the year rolls on.

    10. Funk Brothers (w/Jimmy Hart) def. Junkyard Dog & Hillbilly Jim (w/Uncle Elmer)

Another hot tag match on the show here as JYD recruits another man from down south to battle the redneck Funk brotherhood. This essentially replaces the Funk vs Tito/JYD match from the original card which was one of the highlights of the show. Jim's addition hurts the match a little, but its still a wild brawl.

    11. George Steele def. Magnificent Muraco (w/Mr Fuji)

Filler match here before the main event. Steele gets the win for the crowd as Muraco starts to move down the card.

    12. WWF CHAMPIONSHIP: Hulk Hogan (c) def. Paul Orndorff

I've accelerated the Hogan/Orndorff feud to kick off before this show so that Hogan can have a big program heading into Mania. Orndorff has turned on Hogan following a tag team match at the latest Saturday Night's Main Event, ending his face run. After claiming that he only buddied up with Hogan to get the champ when he was vulnerable, Mr Wonderful was back to his old ways and demanded a shot at the richest prize in the business. Hogan manages to retain here to end the night on a high, but the feud will continue and culminate inside a steel cage at The Big Event over the summer.

Savage/Santana IC title rematch was so obvious to be on this show, baffled they didn't do it. They had some great NO DQ matches at house shows, one of those at mania could have been *****.

Jake made his WWF debut less than 1 month before WM2, no way would he be allowed to pin Steamboat clean here, there's a reason he faced jobber George Wells. I guess we could kick off their feud a little early and have Steamboat going over with bad sport Jake DDT'ing him on the concrete, basically the SNME angle two months earlier.

Would have been nice if their feud had culminated at The Big Event instead of SNME 5 months later, might have saved Orndorff's neck and arm. Orndorff, Hogan and the WWF would have lost out on shitloads of cash though, that feud was the hotness in '86. Bet Orndorff wishes today he had dropped out of the feud earlier though.

    1. Tito Santana vs Terry Funk should be a great opener
    2. Billy Jack vs Hercules
    3. Orndorff vs Piper - One year after the turn these two can go at it
    4. Mr T vs Orton boxing match
    5. Kirchner vs Iron Shiek in a Flag match
    6. Dream Team vs The Killer Bees
    7. Machoman vs JYD in a rematch of the Wrestling Classic. The Body has been ranting for months at how Macho was not fresh but JYD only agrees if IC title is on the line.
    8. Team NFL vs Team WWF tug o war challenge. NFL players should not be in an actual match, so this might be a suitable replacement for the battle royal.
    9. The Spider vs Richter the match that did not happen at Wrestlemania 1.
    10. Andre vs Bundy in a battle of the Giants
    11. Steamboat vs Roberts
    12. Hogan vs Studd in the cage for the title
