WWE: The Beast in the East - July 4th 2015

    WWE: Beast in the East

Live from the Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan (Try saying that one time slow)

Brock Lesnar vs Kofi Kingston - Human hacky sack match

Kevin Owens vs Finn Balor - NXT Championship match

Chris Jericho vs Neville - Awesome wrestling match

John Cena and Dolph Ziggler vs Kane and King Barrett - I can't believe this is real but Wikipedia said it was a match

Nikki Bella vs Paige - Nikki's not dropping the belt until SummerSlam match

Lucha Dragons vs Los Matadores - This ought to make the locals happy match

I will accept nothing more than a complete and utter annihilation of Kofi's mangled carcass; with his remains and innards strewn-about the arena and rafters like silly string.

Well see at first I thought we'd get Lesnar vs New Day with Brock kicking their asses all over the Pacific Rim, Godzilla style.

But now I fear for Brock. If Mercury, Kane and Rollins can take out Lesnar on Raw. Then how could he possibly stand up to all three members ND?

    Eh he'll kill em anyway.

I have no idea. I saw three different cards on three different sites so I just went with the Wikipedia card. Do you think the one you posted is more likely to be accurate?

Cena and Ziggler vs Kane and Barrett? Why would that be a thing? I haven't seen any of RAW this week so maybe I missed something. And I guess we still have no idea why Kofi vs Lesnar is a thing anyway.

The Cena/Dolph thing makes no sense at all. Like I said I just copied what Wikipedia had listed.

Only now they're promoting it as a network special event. If they're going to bother doing that than perhaps they should book it accordingly.

Cena & Ziggler vs. Kane & Barrett isn't that odd of a pairing...
Cena defended his US Title against both Kane and Barrett, and Ziggler's fought both guys in the past two months...
Cena and Ziggler have both fought the Authority, and Barrett has done favors for The Authority is past...

It's just The Beast In The East is a night of wrestling matches...
It's a little looser than we're used to. We usually get booking on rails...

Jericho vs. Neville is awesome, Brock vs. Kofi is awesome, Owens vs. Balor is awesome...
Lucha Dragons vs. Los Matadores would be awesome. The Divas Triple Threat should be fine...

Only thing I would change is have Cena vs. Cesaro, Barrett vs. Ziggler, and have Kane and New Day go after Brock...

The only reason it is a network special is because Brock wanted a free trip to Japan

Based on that list, I would personally book...

    (Fan Booking)

Brock Lesnar vs. The New Day (Handicap Match)
John Cena vs. Hideo Itami (US Title)
    Chris Jericho vs. Neville
Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor (NXT Title)
Cesaro vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. King Barrett
The Lucha Dragons vs. Los Matadores
    Paige vs. Nikki vs. Naomi

    (Fan Booking)

Cena/Ziggler and Kane/Barrett in front of a hardcore Japanese audience? Fuck it, this could be hilarious!

Kofi's being led to the gallows here, take it like a man!

So apparently the only totally, 100% confirmed and very unlikely to change match we have is Balor/Owens.

Fuck it. As more matches become confirmed and promoted we can talk about those in more detail.

I feel like Balor gets screwed again here. I think they like having a guy like Owens run around the main roster and promote NXT with his mic skills. He may be pulling double duty for a while.

Could Joe run in during/after Balor/Owens? Or will they further Cena/Owens ?

No it'll be fine. Japanese crowds aren't like Philadelphia crowds and even then this crowd that shows up will be more in line of something big and American is coming in less so than wrestling fans.

KENTA is just cutting a promo on this show. He's still hurt.

I actually dont mind Cena and Ziggler v Kane and Barrett. I guess on storyline alone it doesnt make much sense but the last year Cena and Ziggler have been mates and Barrett is the type of guy to help Kane out.

Used to always get these type matches all the time.

Yeah but if all we get is Brock coming into the ring and farting at Kofi (which would blow him across the ring) then I don't consider that ppv level booking.

I know they wanted to wait and drive the fans crazy in anticipation for the GTS. But I know they didn't want to make them wait this long. When it finally happens Full Sail is going to fucking explode.

Why Kofi vs Lesnar? Of all the guys that could have faced him. I mean, I'm sure with Lesnars rare appearances, we could have done a dream match that otherwise wouldn't have happened? Like maybe Ambrose vs Lesnar?

Either way, I would have liked to see the New Day come out this past monday on Raw and help destroy Lesnar. It would add heat to the match, and would also make it more believable. New day, Kane, and Rollins beating up Brock is believable. Kane and Rollins is not believable.

Honestly I think Owens vs Finn is the real main event of the show seeing it's for a title. Lesner wrestling is a big deal but it's just gonna be a squash match.

Brock Lesnar makes house show appearance, people want to watch house show.

House show gets made available to watch, people complain about it being a house show and not making sense.

1.) Kenta's Go To Sleep shits all over CM Punk

2.) The reverse Go to Sleep to Kobashi was awesome

3.) What are the odds that Kofi mounts any offense on Lesnar? I see it more as a Lesnar appearance/easy payday in Japan and less of a match

I'd like to see it be a New Day promo that is going over like a lead balloon and then Brock's music hits, E & Woods escape as Brock gets his hands on Kofi, and Brock rips Kofi into little, tiny pieces.

Personally I would have loved to see Ziggler/Lesnar here. Zigs takes bumps like a champ and it could have been a pretty great match.

I agree with Atty, with how big of a star Balor/Devitt was/is in Japan, I think this is the perfect time to take the title off of Owens. Either way, it should be an absolutely stellar match!

Balor started the Bullet Club. When I went to ROH last week everyone was wearing one of 2 kinds of shirts: Kevin Owens or Bullet Club. Imagine how over BC is and just think of how many Bullet Club fans will be in attendance for this.

Brock is hated amongst the Japanese people for his dickheadery 10 years ago.

    Balor/Owens is going on last.

Stole the IWGP Championship and refused to give it back. Eventually dropped it to Angle in a different promotion, presumably after a huge payoff.

I notice that in the adverts they don't mention Brocks opponent. So I wonder if it will be Kofi or someone else. Perhaps they will have someone else on mind.

Or the draw is just Brock being there and he's going to interrupt New Day and go all Godzilla on Kofi.

He should F5 JBL's Godzilla while he's at it.

They should just advertise JBL vs. GODZILLA 2 and then have Brock come back out and destroy JBL. Crowd would love it.

yes it is. its a house show that is being promoted as some kind of event. but clearly they have no interest into turning this into some kind of PPV level thing.

Its a network event. Like kotr was. A special just for the network. I dont expect them to do Beast in the East every year. I'm simply stating it's clearly no longer just a house show.

Do they make packages like this and advertise them during Raw for house shows?

you are missing the point. they are running a house show and attempting to maximize its reach as a house show, not trying to turn a house show into a premier event, which is why they are content to let a brock appearance and the NXT title match stand as selling points and not build up on anything else.

House shows aren't promoted on this kind of a scale and I think you know it. We have to set parameters for what defines a house show. For me this well exceeds them. I really don't see what else I can say. Its seems fairly simple.

This definitely started as a house show. But then again so did elimination chamber. Much like EC it won't be shown on ppv. Only on the network. Which makes it a network special event just like EC. If Beast in the East is a house show then by that logic Elimination chamber must have been one as well.

I think we may have to get used to the concept of WWE taking random house shows and turning them into special network events. Because they've now done it twice in a short time span.

And dollars to donuts they keep doing it for a while trying to drum up more network subscriptions.

It kinda reminds me of those UK PPV's that were only shown in the UK.

This isn't really a pay-per-view in the sense that neither was Elimination Chamber (in the United States, at least). No one is buying this show on pay-per-view because it isn't available.

I hope putting major house shows on the Network becomes a regular thing. For this one, it does feel sort of like the old UK pay-per-views where they'd be promoted a little on TV, but not have much in the way of storylines going in or coming out.

Anyway, I dig this and it was smart of them to capitalize on Brock wrestling. Do wish he had a more interesting opponent than Kofi. I'd have loved to see Brock vs. Cesaro, or Brock vs. Big E, or Brock vs. Dolph.

Was just thinking how hilarious it would be if they swapped out Kofi and brought back Hardcore Holly back for one night only. Total chaos and bloodshed!

EDIT -Making a passing joke of Holly and Brock's history, not literally meaning Brock should actually avenge and wreck Holly for real.

It is a house show that just happens to be shown on the network. It is not televised like your Raw in London for example, it's not pay-per-view, the show has no bearing on current storylines (eg Brock facing Kofi who are not actually feuding), plus is just a show for the Japanese as well as everyone else on the Network.

And this isn't fucking rocket science.

I've made my points very clearly.

There was a house show that got turned into a network special event called Elimination Chamber.

Then there was a house show that has been turned into a special event called Beast in the East.

    - House shows don't have special, cute little titles

    - House shows aren't advertised during Raw and SD with 60 second promo videos

    - House shows almost never have titles change hands. Finn Balor is rumored to win the NXT title here.

    - House shows don't have Brock Lesnar

    - House shows are not a selling point for the network.

    - House shows are not listed as major ppv/event on the chronological Wikipedia page directly between MITB and Battleground.

These are facts. Beast in the East ceased being a house show a while back and became a network special event. Its just what it is.

Why the fuck am I arguing this shit?

    cause youre a dumdum.

you are blatantly contradictory. you try and use the elimination chamber show as evidence of this being anything other than a glorified house show, yet they have blatantly not followed the same path or formula for this show that they did for that one, which was the initial reason for your odd complaint(not being booked like a ppv). brock being added and it being aired and advertised doesnt make it some huge special event worth any kind of advanced booking. just because you think a brock appearance and an NXT title match(title matches take place on house shows often and the IC and tag titles have changed hands during these kinds of shows)make this into something doesnt mean it actually is, and the support for this is in the fact they're not treating it like any other ppv caliber event.

    stop being thick.

This really isn't a pay-per-view or a house show. A pay-per-view is a show people purchase. This show is not purchasable on pay-per-view. A house show is a show that isn't broadcast, only shown to the people in attendance (the "house"). This show is being shown worldwide on WWE Network for just $9.99.

So it's a hybrid. Doesn't really seem to be in the same category as Elimination Chamber either, because they haven't promoted any matches or had any storylines for this show other than Owens/Balor, which I think has only been promoted on NXT.

Have they stopped using the term "pay per view?" It would make sense. "WWE Network Special" or "Special Event" or "WWE Network Presents" would all make more sense at this point.

Regardless, I hope they do this with other big house shows. Madison Square Garden shows, foreign tours, or if they're doing something special (Bret Hart Appreciation Night and the like). More content for the network, more interesting stuff for us to watch, very little extra cost.

    stop being thick.

They haven't stopped using "PPV" completely. But I have heard the "WWE Network presents" a few times.
I think we are in a transition period. Eventually all of these events will be network exclusives.

If they were to have Brock wrestle someone other than Kofi, who would you want?

I'd probably go with Cesaro. Fun, hard-hitting match. Brock can go over. Might give Cesaro a boost.

Miz. Him getting F5ed about five times plus he can generate more heat than Kofi would be a better suit IMO. Keep New Day in the tag ranks and Brock still gets his monster win. I'd keep Cesaro out even thoughhe and Brock would be the more competitive match-up but they're faces at this point as it's better for Brock to be dominant. Especially after Raw being taken out by the likes of aging Kane and Mercury plus cowardly Rollins.

Alternative option is Heath Slater who can also generate heat and someone for Brock to mow over even if Slater isn't high profile.

I think someone like Mark Henry or Luke Harper would be perfect. Cesaro doesn't make much sense at this point since he is a face

Miz is my preferred choice. Recognisable, been in movies, former WWE Champion, has a face you just wanna punch really. A nice sacrificial lamb for Brock.

Lesnar is wrestling Kofi so he can toss around the entire New Day for like 8 minutes

Why does it matter if he's been in films?

I hope you're right, but the way he was booked at the end of Raw has me a little bit worried to be honest.

Then again it is a house show so you're very likely right. I hope Big E puts up some resistance though, get the staredown moment.

What I like about this show is that there's no real storylines going on. It just feels like a WRESTLING show. Kofi v. Brock, that's perfect. It appeals to those wanting this show to be booked like a ppv that has a continuous storyline due to Kofi's association with The Authority, and it's still not something they have booked to lead up to this match which is something that isn't bad. I don't mind them doing that here and there especially when this show wasn't even going to be broadcast until Lesnar wanted to take a vacation.

this is the best case scenario really. brock isn't on this show to work a 20 minute classic. i wouldnt be surprised if it's a sub 2 minute total squash.

Lesnar's entrance will be longer than the match.

I kinda doubt it will even be a match. It will be Brock tossing around a bunch of New Day and Authority guys and done. Then he can eat and sleep.

Brock was the best thing that ever happened to UFC. From an image standpoint of course. He had the actual mentality they try so hard to get their fighters to commit to. They want a roster of bad boy ass kickers but any time they opened their mouths it just felt contrived. Then Brock comes in and just gives not a fuck in the world about what you say or do. He was just going to get on top of you and punch your face in until the ref called it. Don't like it? Too bad - more face punching. You don't like wrestlers Joe Rogan? Too bad - more face punching. Oh Brock doesn't know that many holds? Too bad because he's as big as a fucking truck and he's on top of you and guess what? Yep - more face punching.

Then he'd do a post fight interview along the lines of "Suck my ass and eat my dick goodnight".

Hate him. Love him. Hate to love him. Love to hate him. You bought the ppv.

That might not ever happen again for them.

I wonder what their claimed attendance will be. With no staging the place holds 11,000. WWE has to have their staging. So the DDT Peter Pan shows in that configuration get around 9000.

They'll probably use their normal house show stage which has no effect on attendance.
