    X-Men films

Apologies if there is a thread for this already, but I couldnt find one. Not only is the cast list absolutely ridiculously stacked, but the trailer looks damn good too:

Looks alright, nothing mind blowing or anything though. Will be looking forward to more trailers.

    Hugh Jackman is a workhorse.

This looks good. X-Men: First Class was really fucking good, as in it would probably be in my top 2 or 3 superhero movies and my favorite of the X-Men series. I loved it. I think the time travel plot they're doing here will be tough to pull off and I'm also fairly unexcited for them bringing back the present day actors (other than McKellan and Stewart) because I feel like their characters are all worn out by now. If they do pull it off seamlessly it could be brilliant. I'm excited but I'm not expecting it to match First Class.

Who is the villain in this? I couldn't tell from the trailer and that bothers me. Granted I may not have been paying attention

The Sentinels feature pretty prominently. So, probably Dinklage. He's playing Trask, right?

Yes. The effects are not done on the Sentinels yet, so expect them in the spring trailer or the Super Bowl Ad. I can't wait for this one.

Looks absolutely fantastic. I'm a little worried the time travel aspect might make things a bit incoherent but they set up First Class's timeline far better than I expected they would and I have confidence they can make this work. This was delayed about a year so Lawrence could work on Catching Fire, right? I wonder if Hunger Games 3 and 4 will impact any potential sequel.

So who are the future x-men we see. Did they give Bishop red eyes?

And yeah, with the temple it does look very age of apocalypse. Maybe they are going to try and combine the two somehow.

Methinks It's Bishop, Sunspot, Warpath and Blink...

Which would be a well balanced team...

Or they lead into it at the end (scene after the credits or something). I don't want to see this move get bogged down with too many moving pieces, without the time to flesh them out. That was the biggest problem with Spider-man 3 imo.

The more I think about it, the more excited I'm getting for this movie. Don't get me wrong, I love Bats and Spidey, but X-Men has always been "my" comic. Even the characters I hate I want to know more about.

    You are correct, sir.
If anyone wants a thorough break down of the trailer with comments from Singer, here's a good little read:
    http://www.empireonline.com/features...iler-breakdown

Expecting this movie to be amazing. I actually liked First Class less upon second viewing, though I still think it's good. But then, I'm also one of the few that liked X-Men 3, too, so whatever.

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/...coming-in-2016

X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer has dropped a mysterious hint on Twitter today, seemingly implying that an X-Men film called and/or featuring the villain Apocalypse is in the works for 2016.

The tweet simply says "#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!" Box Office Mojo quickly followed up the tweet with a report stating that 20th Century Fox has scheduled X-Men: Apocalypse for May 27, 2016, which puts it some two years after DOFP's release.

    Fuck yes.

Well that explains a few things. He's trying to get to Apocalypse, but he needs Days of Future Past to fix a few things first. I am stoked.

Apocalypse is basically the ultimate Darwinist. Survival of the fittest, and all that.

I'm drawing a blank on a good starting point to get into the character of Apocalypse, but check out the X-Men crossover event from the mid 1990's called the Age of Apocalypse. It's about an alternate reality where Charles Xavier was murdered before he was able to create the X-Men. Because the X-Men did not exist, Apocalypse was able to rise to power and wage war on basically everything.

If Magneto only cares about mutants, Apocalypse only cares about the strong. He's an ancient Egyptian mutant of incredible power, and is basically the second biggest villain to the X-Men after Magneto...

He turns Nathaniel Essex, a 19th century scientist obsessed with human evolution and human perfection into Mister Sinister, and he offers Angel a faustian bargain when Angel loses his wings during the slaughter of sewer dwelling mutants (Morlocks) by Mister Sinister's mutant clones (Marauders). Angel becomes Archangel, with blue skin and metal wings, brainwashed to serve as one of Apocalypse's four horsemen...

Much of the X-Men is at its core about genetic differences, so Apocalypse and all of the eugenics that comes with him plays right into that wheelhouse...

    Plus he looks pretty badass...

I thought First Class was really good. I'd say it's probably the best X-Men movie in terms of representing the source material. DOFP looks great. Looks like the X-Men movie I've wanted all along.

Yeah, just saw that today. Here it is below for anyone else who hasn't seen it.

I've always felt that the action in the X-Men films left a lot to be desired, aside from a few scenes like Nightcrawler's attack on the White House. There can just be too much of a mish-mash of powers and abilities and the fights come off a bit hap-hazard and gimmicky. I think having the Sentinels makes things much easier, because everyone can just unleash their abilities on them. That preview was a great taster of exactly that.

Now there's news that a clip of Days of Future Past is included in the credits of The Amazing Spiderman 2. I've read on Empire's website what the clip is - it doesn't sound like anything major but I won't spoil it for those who don't want to know - but it's just a brief scene from the film rather than exclusive content or any kind of crossover. But it's the first collaboration between the Marvel universes of Fox and Sony and it might pave the way for something more elaborate in the future.

It's actually because of Marc Webb's contract. He was suppose to do another fil for Fox Searchlight after 500 days of summer, and to break that contract to make Spider-Man, Fox asked for free advertising.

They won't let Spiderman in Avengers, but its ok for the X-Men to be in Spiderman? I wonder if Fox and Sony are deciding to tag team the Disney take over.

Not to dismiss this but is a 17 year old really considered a child?

A good start to being competitive with the Marvel movies would be for Sony and Fox to stop making movies that are, at best, mediocre.

Depends on what the age of consent is in whatever state he was in (assuming it happened in the US). But this guy is claiming he was raped, so age of consent is moot.

Shit, that's not even the half of it.

There's so much random crap that varies state to state it's ridiculous.

And age of consent is usually 18 in most places here, so there's that too.

He drugged and raped a person. That's a decidedly shitty thing to do no matter how you slice it.

The ties to the alleged sex ring sounds like the most damning detail.

Just become a director. You can diddle all the kids you want as long as you make some profitable movies. Just don't get caught saying something racist or homophobic, though. They'll blacklist you for that.

so by the laws of that state he didn't rape a child so why would it be reported in that manner.

rich, gay in the closet man pays for drugs and the company of a young adult male who wants to party and hang about with celebrities is the reality.
i dont really think thats too uncommon.

There's something called the Mann Act that states that flying someone across state lines makes the age of consent 18 because that's what the Federal age of consent is. That seems... odd. Why let states have different ages of consent if that's the case?

With that said, Singer isn't closeted and this isn't the first time he's run into trouble for something like this before. Apparently he was involved in some sketchy shit while film Apt. Pupil. Here's a link pertaining to that: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,287669,00.html

It's to prevent sex tourism. If you have a state where the age of consent is 2 years lower, do you really want a bunch of 40 creeps booking a coach trip together and organising a convention?

I'll reserve judgement on this one for now I think. Supposedly it happened 15 years ago, so seems strange to be coming out at this particular point. Still, Hollywood is a pretty fucked up place, so nothing would surprise me.

The whole states vs federal thing is stupid, anyways. Drug laws, women's reproductive laws, employment laws, gun laws…there are a ton of things that vary state to state that don't really need to.

State Laws belong in the 1800s where it sorta meant something. Now, its fucking ridiculous. I think Hollywood has a shit record with directors and sex abuse cases and Singer will keep directing while his actors rally around him.

Because Tatum said he wanted it and he's a way more bankable star. Probably as simple as that.

Tatum is going to be in a film that is most likely going to be nominated for or win best picture next year and he's got a very good chance of taking a best supporting actor nomination, he's also much more bankable whereas Kitsch headlined John Carter (which I actually liked, but which absolutely BOMBED).

Thats probably something to do with it.

I actually wasn't sure what movie you were talking about. Magic Mike XXL is the only thing he's listed for in 2015, so I was confused.

Looks like it has potential, but didn't really see much of Tatum in the trailer.

Channing's good in some things. He's good for comedy. I can't see him as Gambit. I suppose I could see him looking like Gambit given the costuming, but I can't see him sounding like Gambit at all.

It's funny, when I saw the post on Facebook earlier it was a link to IGN with a "you'll never believe who they cast to play Gambit" type headline. Before I even clicked it I said to myself "Let me guess, Channing Tatum?"

I kind of rolled my eyes because just for the predictability of it, but like Mik says he's bankable. It'll piss off diehard fans but it shouldn't surprise anyone. The Cajun accent is the biggest thing for me. Otherwise I'm fine with it.

He wasn't that's his actual voice.

I think that Jupiter Ascending will be a rather large test of Tatum's bankability.

I know, that was my point. Why would White House Down have any relevance to whether or not he can do a Cajun accent? Basically I was agreeing with you.

I dig Tatum as Gambit. 20 years ago I wanted to see Jean Claude Van Damme play Gambit and Guile from Street Fighter, 1 out of 2 ain't bad even if the Street Fighter movie sucked cock, and not in a Sasha Grey/Belladonna way. But I think Tatum will work, he's awesome, I dig most of his work, and he's athletic so he'll probably do some cool shit with the staff and fight scenes. I didn't like the guy who played Gambit in the Wolverine Origin movie, and it'll be interesting if they try to "real world" his costume or stick with the comic book attire.

I was referring to him being lead in a Gambit movie since he was lead in White House Down. I'm not sold on him being lead in any movie.

I wonder if he will pull a GI Joe 2 and die in the first ten minutes. The wife loves Gambit was not impressed by the cast choice.
