My current trick is getting close but not close enough to a guard for stunning him. In goes DD to keep him busy, and I use that few moments of distraction to creep closer still and batter him.
I love the fact that when new weapons or techniques are revealed, I feel like I want to re-visit missions again and try them in a different way.

Kojima must have tapped into the idea that people were re-playing the older games over and over again. I've literally cleared each of the main four games plus peace walker a couple of times, especially the first three which I have done many many times.

There's been so much hype I suppose. After playing it for hours on end, I took a break and went shopping. In the shop I came across a demo screen. Being removed from it, I realized once again how beautifully it's all put together.

I'll be honest, I can't concentrate at work. I keep thinking about the game. I think I'm in love.

I've been hammering away at side-ops today, and then a mission to capture hostages.
I absolutely sucked today, I kept getting killed over and over again. One question- I have been using air support to bombard. Trouble is, people seem to keep coming directly to the spot where I triggered it from. Why do they do this?

Upgrade D-Walker and get the Interceptor head, he'll take out all the enemies for you with a sleeping gun.

I'd no idea walker was of any use. Is it really worth my GDP investment?
I got Quiet today and have been tinkering with her abilities for a while. It seems her main thing is as a scout, which is also what I use DD for. Do they really get much more use?

    Oh man yes.

Quiet can take down a whole town if you equip her right and direct her to the right spot. I'd have her tranqing the Ruskies while I ran around and fultoned the good ones with out ever being seen.

Done the bastard. Not 100% with all the picky little shit but all the missions are done. Fuck you game, 3 months, a game surely hasn't taken that long since the 90s.

Quiet becomes very useful when you work out the obscure method of opening the map, pressing down on the d-pad and giving her specific instructions and locations.

    I hadn't looked till now.

184 over 3 months. A fair bit of that is snake just chilling out in the back of trucks just going through check points while I do other stuff. But still damn, that's a bit longer than I thought.
And I just realised I actually haven't done all the side ops.

221 hours, 80% complete. Not sure if that includes FOB missions though.

If the spoiler bit is true I may finally go back to it because when that happened I was done.

Woah, really? Great news. Doesn't have to all be in a row, right? I've probably clocked the mission 4ish times already.

I don't think it has to be in a row...your reward should be around 2000 GDP (assuming rewards don't replenish over time)

It doesn't have to be in a row. I played the mission 4-5 times today and the name changed. Will either do the final one tomorrow or whenever I replay the game from the first mission on out as I've been meaning to do "another run" with all the missions in order.

I haven't finished this yet.... jesus.... nor Fallout 4.

I've got a new habit of starting these massive games and running out of steam.

Me too. I got very bored with this, so much so it wasn't any fun for me anymore. The story made little sense, and the missions seemed endless. I had much more fun playing AC: Syndicate.

Got bored after 12 main missions and around 30 side ops. Glad it wasn't just me.

So, yeah, if you get "reunion" to pop, just do it. I came back today, played the prologue again and saw it was back to "replay"

Had a weird cutscene/glitch happen to me a couple of days ago:
Returning to Mother Base all stinky, I got the beginning of the Ocelot/bucket scene but Quiet got in the middle...
    CUT TO:
Snake inside Quiet's cell, she's showering and a couple of the DD's are watching and making lewd comments...
cut scene ends and Snake is locked inside Quiet's cell, unable to interact with anything and Quiet just going about her usual routine.
Had to 'Restart current mission' to continue.

So, I finally beat this(at least, did all story missions and got all the endings except that insane nuclear disarmament ending). Wow, Kojima. Just wow.

As far as the story goes...

The gameplay goes without saying. It's fucking incredible. I never thought I would enjoy the open-world mission structure that much, but I was completely sucked in. There is just some subtle but consistent joy in riding around capturing outpost after outpost, trying to interrogate and fulton every soldier without getting caught. I wish there was a way to switch outfits on the fly considering the many different environments you can walk across over the course of one episode, but otherwise this is espionage at its best. And I love that you can go guns blazing if you so choose, but you have to be smart about it. You can't just stand out in the open and shoot at everyone, you have to prepare for your shot and not miss. And all the little easter egg tactics are fun to employ.

Is it my favorite? I dunno, I did kind of wish I wasn't always driving past a lot of the same places and had a few unique environments to traverse through. And the linear journey of the MGS1-3 has a certain vibe to it that I always love. And much like MGS4 had not enough gameplay, I kind of feel like this didn't have enough cutscenes until you get bombarded with them by the end. But it's hard to argue against this being the best game from a gameplay perspective, if only just for the sheer amount of content you can do. I do think the boss fights don't compare to anything from MGS3, though. Probably could have used a couple more of those.
