The first season was about half and half for me, most because I've been an immense WD fan since the first arc of the book. When you know the entire story already it feels much like a level below disappointing when episodes don't follow the book at all, but I still adore this series in every way. The world has been introduced to us... Now we can get into the nitty gritty.

    Prison.

And the Governor can be the 3rd season. Please, please.

I can see where you are coming from on most of the episodes, except the first. I really feel the first episode is better than the comic. The feeling that the writers and director created in the first episode was pure excellence. The imagery with the little girl zombie was jarring and almost in a "zombie way" beautiful. One of my favorite opening episodes for any show.

    I've just gotten through vol.3 13-18
My next two volumes are on order. I don't know if the the material before the Prison can fill a full season. Plus we don't know if they will go that way. They have added characters left and right, and made a facility as their finale. Plus

    As for the second season.

Got the first seaon on blu ray for a mere $22. At some point in time it is supposed to jump up to $49. Not sure when or if it ever will but $22 is a great price even without all the features it contains.

I probably won't even open this up until it comes time for season 2 to start. Will do a couple day session of all the episodes and features to get really pumped up for the start of season 2.

I watched it again a few weeks ago and I forgot how awesome it was. I read the first 4 Trades and I am not going to get fanboy pissy about the CDC thing since it is a logical place to go. The convention, I am going to has the two kids, J-Dog and the Redneck, too bad the Q&A is the next day. I would love to hear even some small spoilers for season 2.

On Sun., Jul. 17th, during the premiere of Season 4 of Breaking Bad, AMC is sneaking a first-look video from the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. Season 1 of The Walking Dead premiered in Oct. 2010 and became the most watched drama series in basic cable history among Adults 18-49.* The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse.

It's not like you should even need more reasons to watch Breaking Bad, but there you go.

Michonne is a comic book character that is notoriously bad ass. Some folks have thought she could show up this season, but it makes more sense for her to show up next season, and now it is confirmed that that will be the case. Which also means that Season 3 should be

Finished the first season again. I feel another thing I hope is optimized is the story progression. While Rick finds his way to the camp, and reunites with his family, that's pretty much the state of the show for 3 episodes. But there's also backtracking, something I highly frowned upon.

    Point A: Hospital ............Episode 1
    Point B: House ...............Episode 1-2
    Point C: city .................. Episode 2
    Point D: camp ................Episode 3
Point C: back to city ........Episode 3-4
Point D: back to camp .....Episode 5
    Point E: Lab ...................Episode 6

The backtracking was a waste of 2 episode IMO. A third of the entire short season.

There needs to be an actual sense of these characters moving forward throughout the whole season, rather than sitting in the same spot during the middle acts. The best episodes were the first and last ones, with the rest being a chasm of "Can we move along please?"

That being said, I still enjoyed the fuck out of this show. My main attention will be on Shane though, most people already know why.

I'm very very excited. I cannot wait to see these characters again, brought to life as they are. Sure, Darabont is gone, but the show is in good hands, and everyone is stoked to be doing it. The little changes, like Shane, and T-Dog, those are the things that are so incredible. And a herd showing up THIS early! Oh man. I'm ready, start this show up!!

I'm ready for this again, I was a dedicated follower of the first season and was bitterly disappointed when I heard no word of a second season.

I am now delighted and hugely anticipating it, I can't stress how finely acted the first season was. It was a masterclass.

I'm getting antsy for this to come back. The only bad thing about the first season was that it was 6 episodes.

It was ludicrously short for such a watchable programme.

I thoroughly enjoyed it because I stepped in with one expectation and one expectation only...that was to see some incredibly well visualised zombies.

Say anything you like about TWD but the zombies were fucking amazing. The first rotting torso you see is one of the best introductions to the visual identity of the zombies encountered in any tv show or movie.

    They were pretty brilliant.

They are also doing a marathon at least where I live. So you can watch the whole first season and then end with the first episode of next season if you like.

Edit: I know some of you are East Coast and beyond. As of this post (9am Pacific) it should still be a few hours out for the east coast. But if you wanna watch go check right goddamn now if it's still the 16th!

Really enjoyed the episode, though I felt it dragged in the second half. If this episode had been edited down a bit, I bet it would have been perfect. But as a season opener, I'm stoked. And I am SOOOOO fucking glad that

I liked the episode quite well myself. I actually like Lori a bit in this first episode, and the tension between characters was brought out well. (didn't much care for her in the first season)

What an amazing fucking show. The tension when the herd came through was unreal. Just brilliant from top to bottom really. I actually jumped at the end of the episode and I can't remember the last time a movie or tv show had me this firmly locked in.

I can't wait for next week.

My wife is bothered by Rick's hat as well. What's the deal with that?

I really enjoyed the opener too. I'm interested in seeing how the end scene pans out over the next few weeks.

If you read the comics and saw the farm in the previews, you know what was coming. Still, great opener and I am glad they are taking the show in the same direction as the comics while leaving them room to maneuver for the rest of the series.

The opening radio call scene was complete dogshit, but it certainly picked up. The scene on the road was magical.

Carl is much more of a Bad Ass in the books which is probably the one and only complainant with the show. However, they are slowly building him up with getting the tools, following Rick's lead and volunteering to go after Sophia. How he becomes a bad ass early on will probably never take place even though it would make for some shocking TV.

True but I kind of get where he's coming from. Rick's little monologues seem to drag a bit sometimes. They really seem to like having him go on and on by himself. At times it works well and at other times I find them a bit off. It's not a huge problem at all but I've noticed it a bit too.

I wish I could put the spoiler up, but I will just say in the books Carl deals with Shane with less whining and more cowboy.

Firm difference, this isn't the comic book we're watching.

It makes sense how Carl reacts, since his relationship with Shane was suddenly changed with the re-introduction of his father. Before, Shane was playing the father figure, but now Shane is forced not only to jump out of the father figure role.... but he has to push Carl away.

Well, not all of the comic book we are watching. Carl does get shot in almost the same way he did last night. Like I said, the one thing I haven't liked about the series is how they have made Carl, the typical kid in danger who looks to be on the verge of tears. He is very important as the books go on. Since they seem to be taking large pieces of the story, they will either need to continue to use the pieces or go in a different direction that while still be a horror movie will be safer than the books.

Carl hasn't been made into anything yet. He wasn't even given that many lines in the first season, and he's just starting to become more of a main character. Regardless, it's way too soon to even call him a typical... anything. It's only the first damn episode.

You make it sound like he's in every scene, cowering in a bush calling for his daddy.

And it's not like in the comics Carl is John Rambo to begin with.

    He's
    just
    a
    kid.

Furthermore, I highly expect we will see Carl get his "cowboy" moment as you put it. Every important thing that was in the comics has so far happened. The cowboy moment is iconic, to the character, and to the comic. It'll happen on the show.

... The Walking Dead returned for Season 2 on Sunday and promptly made a wasteland of the record books. 7.3 million people (editor's note: !!!) tuned in to watch the season opener, and of that ginormous number, 4.8 million of them were in the coveted 18-49-year-old age range. That last factoid is a basic-cable record and was good enough for a 3.8 rating, higher than anything on TV last night except for NBC's Sunday Night Football. If you include repeats, 11 million viewers watched the first episode
It doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon.

Good episode. kinda what you expect from a second episode. Meet new people and continue the story along. They are making me like and care about Daryl Dixon, and Shane Walsh. Next episode looks to ramp up the drama though.

Plus, I should mention, that high school ... yeah, that's my high school. Fucking awesome seeing it littered with zombies. I've run up and down those stairs a hundred times.

    Really good episode tonight.

Damn, the actor who portrays Rick is great. Just the look on his face conveys the emotion/gravity of any given situation. The scenes with his son/in the Doc's house were heart-wrenching.

It is too early to tell, but this season has 13 episodes as opposed to the 6 of last season. They are probably trying to stretch some of the moments in this season.

I wish they would bring Frank Darabont back. I think I enjoyed the episodes he wrote/co-wrote last season the best.

It absolutely is too early to tell. There were low points in the first episode but number 2 was excellent.

Early speculation about bad writing is almost surely entirely caused by a backlash against Frank Darabont's leaving the show, and nerds trying to justify their rage (consciously or not).

You know while this is true of a lot of shows that I wouldn't make it to the end of the season if I was the hero but really? This is all kinds of fucked up.

Right then it's bite the goddamned bullet time, clearly your in so far over your head that you can't get out.

I love this show. I get some of the criticisms you guys have had on this show so far, but I'm digging everything I've seen, so far.

This episode is the best one of the season so far. The pinata zombie was awesome. And the ending with Shane was THE SHIT.

I completely agree. The Dale/Andrea stuff is really forced. I am LOVING T-Dogg and Daryl. Rick really is a whiny puss right now. But I'm loving the show. And this episode was off the hook. That was my high school, my high school gym. That blows my mind.

As far as Shane goes he did what he had to do. I don't think it was all about him surviving as much as I think he did what he did to save the boy. Otis has ultimately made right by him and sorry...only the strongest survive. Shane had what appears to be a broken leg and was still a bit faster than the fat man. Shane probably should have shot him in the head though so he wouldn't have had to fought with him so long.

To go back to the DALE/Andrea stuff....

I was actually ok with their scenes. Andrea just absolutely despises him right now and he seems to either care for this girl as his daughter or he has some go left in his loins. So yeah, them to talking to each other shouldn't come off as natural.

With Dale and Andrea I just don't get much from them at this time. I don't feel their tension, anguish, angst, or despair against/for each other. I think that the actors(playing Dale and Andrea) are fine in their roles, but I don't currently enjoy how they interact. I feel almost nothing from the scenes between these two.

Maybe this comes from reading the book. I have my own interpretation of how characters interact, and I'm not too keen on these two interact at this time on the show.

I think they are forcing them to interact because of the book. Those who read the comics know what goes on with them. And I think they are trying to ... foreshadow? I dunno. It's really hamfisted and not very realistic.

I actually have the same problem with Lori. But I hated her in the comic, too. So perhaps it is just the character.

Lori is a fucking self righteous cunt.

Dale is the only character I think just outright sucks. Nothing his character has been involved with thus far has been the least bit interesting or compelling. I don't know if it's just the character, or the goofy looking dude that plays him, but he's by far my least favorite part of this show.

Andrea is smoking hot, though. I hope she sticks around.

How Dale didn't spot that giant herd in the season opener is still beyond me.

He was too busy running around with that stupid slack jawed look on his face while staring at Andrea.

That is how I would spend my time in the Walking Dead.

I think Shane shot Otis in the leg so that he would struggle and hence be a better distraction.

That was the true dick move - a headshot would be bordering on mercy.

Walkers want living flesh not dead meat. Other wise they would turn on each other.

I honestly don't see how it was a dick move. He doesn't do it, Shane, Fat Man and Carl die. It was the right move.

No matter if it's necessary, it's a dick move to shoot a guy and leave him to be eaten by zombies.

No, it's a smart move. I would contend that, in their world, there isn't really such a thing as "dick moves" anymore. You're either alive, or you're dead. Every decision they make is life or death.

I don't know if it's just the character, or the goofy looking dude that plays him, but he's by far my least favorite part of this show.

Andrea is smoking hot, though. I hope she sticks around.
I pretty much agree with all of this. Dale didn't bother me at first but he's become more grating as each week goes by. He's just bleh all around.

I hate Lori. She doesn't make any sense and is undeniably a self righteous hypocrite.

As I said, he's a survivor, he's going to do what he needs to survive... period. Perhaps they could have reached the truck without him doing that but he was definitely going to reach the truck if he left Otis for the herd. He took the sure route. Who is to say what any of us would be like in the same situation. I would like to think I would keep my moral compass but who knows...

What about that lady that looks like Jamie Lee Curtis. I hope they find Sophie as a zombie, and she attacks her mother.

just watched the last 2 eppies. Slow starting to season II but i fucking loved the monster heel turn by Shane at the end of eppy III. Loved that he shaved his head so as to ensure that he's never slowed down by hairpulling in front of stampeding zombies ever again lol. Tells me theres no remorse for what he's done, pure survivalist, ends justifies the means etc. Setting up a huge table/chairs matchup in a steel cage with the virtuous deputy in the near future, i'm sure. Perfect ending for Otis, he shot the boy to get them there in the first place and Shane ended his story, to survive himself, in order to save said boy.

Tired of the old guy and his sage-like oracle bullshit, like many here, feels so forced and tedious. Really hate that fucking blonde, hope she dies off soon.

Can't fucking wait for the brother who sawed off his own hand on that building to reappear. Gonna be masterful.

Also, hate the way they've babyfaced the other brother in season II, almost comic relief like. Need him to be a sociopathic bastard, not a funnyman.
