Joe Manganiello is Deathstroke in Affleck's solo Batman movie.

Solid choice. Certainly has the build. Glad to hear in the Geoff Johns interview that they will do away with Snyder's "controversial flourishes"

Love the casting choice for Slade Wilson. Joe Manganiello seems like the perfect fit.

Is it confirmed that this will be Old Man Logan? Or it's still a rumor.

They can use Deadpool and The Thing instead of the Marvel locked characters for this. I know the basis of it, but not the details.

I've been catching up on some Marvel movies.

Deadpool - This was very enjoyable and deserving of the unexpected success it achieved. For the first 10 minutes I was thinking I'm not sure if I can take a full movie of these Ryan Reynolds quips but as it moved along I was very much enjoying the humor of it including the breaking of the 4th wall and poking fun at the genre of comic book movies. The scenes of dialogue between Deadpool and Negasonic Teenage Warhead were fun. I like that chick. But it was a little dumb when she caused the whole battleship (or whatever it was Deadpool was fighting on top of) to crumple and fall over at the end - seemed unnecessary and I'm not sure how DP's girlfriend survived in that container without getting head trauma since she fell like 4 stories.

I also watched Winter Soldier and Civil War - both were solid. Generic super hero stuff but well polished. I'm not sure which I liked more, but the big fight scene in Civil War where Spidey and Ant-Man got involved was pretty damn cool. Winter Soldier might have been the better overall script though. Which do most people prefer?

I haven't seen Avengers Age of Ultron yet so I was missing some of the background elements when I watched Civil War, but it's next up on my watch list.

Because Civil War got added to Netflix so I watched it and they're comic book movies so who cares. I had the realization that I should also watch Avengers 2 when I was mid-way through CW. Not like it really mattered but there were some characters that I missed the introductions on and was like "who's that?"

I haven't seen Wolverine Origins or The Wolverine nor do I plan to but I still want to see Logan because, again, it shouldn't really matter.

That probably won't matter much as Fox is no where near the same as marvel. Same with all the new dcu stuff. Marvel is well put together go and designed to be watched in order.

I like how Winter Soldier is basically the worst case scenario of government oversight, while Age of Ultron is the worst case scenario of a glorious lack of oversight...

Which brings the story nicely into Civil War...

I'm watching some of X-Men Origins Wolverine on cable. Soooo is that version of Deadpool different than the new one even though they're both played by Ryan Reynolds? And that can be explained by Days of Future Past changing it to an alternate timeline?

pretending this movie never happened was probably for the best since it stinks, but that's fairly confusing.

Pretty much. My friend awhile ago, before Days came out, before Deadpool the movie came out, basically said that Deadpool can't die as it is so what we saw doesn't really matter because he could regenerate. So that left everyone the out that they could still do a Deadpool movie or put him in future movies and then go from there.

I will have to admit, Wolverine Origins was not as good as I had hoped. You can usually tell when a movie isn't going to be that great simply by seeing if a rapper is one of the main characters lol. I liked the casting of Sabretooth a lot.

For me, it felt inconsistent for what was set up in X-Men and X2.

I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron. It was okay. The part that bothered me was the formation of Ultron and Vision and how you take an AI program and add an infinity stone to it (which apparently also has AI in it?) and that equals a brand new character. That whole concept seemed wishy washy. I like a villain I can wrap my head around, not an intangible concept put in a robot body with the help of an alien stone. And James Spader as the voice didn't fit quite right to me.

Maybe like a 6/10 overall for me. Really great action sequences. I might throw on Civil War again and skim through it now that I know the backstory.

Why is Earth so important to all these alien communities, anyway? Thanos in particular, what's his obsession with our little planet among the billions of planets in the galaxy? Seems like he keeps sending his underlings to destroy us. Just chill out, man.

Okay one more question, we can call this recurring segment "explain it to Fro".

The Maximoff twins (especially the girl) seemingly plotted for Ultron to be formed. She let Tony take Loki's scepter on purpose, she put the vision of dead Avengers in his head so that he would create Ultron by inserting the scepter into his AI technology. But how did Scarlett Witch know this would happen? Was she already aware of Ultron somehow (or rather, the AI person in the scepter who would later become Ultron)? Or was it part of Strucker's plan? Or is this just a plot device that I should ignore?

Some of this shit is hard to follow among the fun action scenes.

This and the Nightwing movie make me think they are trying really hard to keep Affleck happy. Batgirl is a great low stakes character for the DC movieverse to give Whedon 100% control. After Ultron, he said the studio had a lot more I put than he'd wanted.

I kinda wonder if this isn't a soft reboot of the entire universe. Start off small with Batgirl and then make her the Tony Stark of the DCU. She has connections to everyone in that universe when she becomes Oracle.

The good thing with the DCEU is if they want to reboot everything, they can either do a Flashpoint or Crisis On Infinite Earths movie and go from there. I think Flashpoint would be awesome. Who doesn't want to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan play Batman?

    Thor Ragnorak teaser trailer.

Good teaser, got me super excited but now I'll avoid anymore to keep myself clear of any Spider-man: Homecoming Trailer 2 issues. Looks to be pretty fucking good tbh.

So the GotG Vol 2 soundtrack list was released the other day and is out now. The first Awesome Mix was fantastic. This second one is just as good.

I think you're reading into these comments a little too much P13. I don't think there's anyone out there that has a true NEED for movies, it's not life or death like we NEED oxygen.

Venom looks cool. It has Tom Hardy in it. It's R-rated. Call me a rube, but that kinda sells me on it.

Venom has always been one of my favorite characters but I've never really looked at him as someone who needs their own movie. But hopefully this will somehow bring Carnage into the mix because that is a tremendous character.

The only thing that I'm not cool with is them also announcing this movie as being a part of "Sony's Marvel Universe". I don't need another shared movie universe when we already have the awkward divide between Marvel and Fox.
I can see this eventually leading to Sony taking Spiderman back exclusively once they've got their own set of movies going.

Yeah, it's pretty weird that Sony is creating its own separate Spider-Man universe. I like Tom Hardy as Brock. Way better choice than Topher Grace. I suppose Venom could be a Punisher type of Spider-Man. Odds are that Carnage will be the villain.

Indeed he does. I just hear about a Venom movie (a movie Sony's been trying to make for years) and I immediately think of Warner Bros. announcing a Harley Quinn movie. The character has never struck me as a lead, more like a supporting/villain.

Zack Snyder's daughter committed suicide. Joss Whedon is finishing the film.

Obviously just a horrible story. She was 20 years old.

Re shoots haven't started yet. And in that story it says Joss had already rewritten some portion of the script when Snyder was still directing.

I wouldn't go that far. You basically see the villain of the movie, and you see some of the interaction between Stark and Spidey. What else in there would be considered a spoiler?

I wouldn't even bother watching any trailers anymore. Just watch the films, trailers are awful in 99% of cases, give far too much away.

Obviously nobody wishes any harm on Zack Snyder or his family, but the entire DC universe would be much better of in Joss Whedon's hands than his.

I thought the Spider-Man trailer looked good. I am more curious about Keaton as Vulture than I am anyone else. They should not kill him off and him even having one scene with RDJ would be nuts. I also like the high school element the more I see.

Obviously it's too early to give props to the new Spidey but I have to say, Tobey will always be the #1 guy for me at the moment even with the little amount of stuff we've seen with this new kid who's looks to be on his way to recording a new album, dance video, ninja workout DVD, you name it this hearthrob is going to have it....But I'm going to see this movie not to see how good or bad this Spider Man actor will be, but to see my man Michael Keaton fuck the world in the ass as The Vulture.

Love Snyder. Joss Whedon is the shit, too. I think both have their negatives for sure. Has Whedon done anything DC related? I mean from what I understand he's just going in to put a bow on an already finished product, correct? And I'm looking at Whedon's resume, and I already knew most of it like his work with Buffy, Avengers, cool to see he's doing the screenplay for Batgirl who my mom adores almost as much as she does Elvis. But I don't really see anything that he's done that would make me think he's just straight up better than Snyder. Snyder has done some GREAT movies. Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, the list goes on of movies that me personally I would rank higher than the majority of anything Whedon has done in his career. I get that there are a shit ton of Firefly fans (not even sure why that show sucked) and Buffy fans (same thing), and the Avengers movies are the fucking shit and I love Agents. But again, I love Snyder's work and while I see the negatives that people say about him, I don't know if it's a reason to say the entire universe would be better without him and more Whedon, just don't see it myself.

If you care about little scenes or charming moments getting spoiled, don't watch it...
By now, barring input from critical/audience reception, you should know if you want to watch the movie or not, to the point where watching yet another trailer won't change that...

Personally, I don't care about spoilers, so I watch the trailers anyway...

Is it on the same level as Dark Knight, First Class, Iron Man and Avengers, or are the reviews a bit skewed?

Like Christopher Reeve Superman or Man of Steel Superman or Brandon Roth Superman? I never know what people mean by "first" when the definition alters after several revamps of a certain character/movie.

I enjoyed it... perhaps it was because of the setting... but I'd compare it in quality to the first Captain America movie. Certainly the best offering the DCEU has put out thus far.

Not a fan of the setting to be honest. Capt America, I understood the reason for the setting. Wonder Woman, maybe I'm not as versed with the comics but I find the setting to be boring when thinking about Capt America and Agent Carter already soaking up the World War 2 era. And I know this movie is World War 1 but it has a very similar vibe. I think that this movie will be really good though even if I'm not a fan of certain aspects like the setting, Chris Pine...

I thought Chris Pine almost stole the movie with his acting in this one.

Yeah I'm hoping he'll be good, honestly there really aren't too many actors in this movie that I care for or have been blown away by other than Robin Wright in Forrest Gump. So really as long as the movie as a whole is decent I'll be satisfied.

And I know this movie is World War 1 but it has a very similar vibe. I think that this movie will be really good though even if I'm not a fan of certain aspects like the setting, Chris Pine...

Wonder Womans origin in the comics was always heavily tied up with WW2. From what I understand, it was changed to WW1 in this movie for two reasons.

    1. Warner Bros felt that Marvel already had used WW2 so successfully in their films that it would give the impression, rightly or wrongly, that they were attempting to copy a successful Marvel film.
    2. The main reason given by Patti Jenkins though is that, while she acknowledges the first reason, changing to WW1 allowed the filmmakers to colour the outside world in shades of grey, whereas the Nazis are basically straight up bad guys.

With a WW2 setting, you have the Nazis, who stood in almost direct opposition to Amazonian ideals, whereas it could be argued that WW1 didnt really have good/bad guys, allowing for their to be a little hesitance and uncertainty on the part of the Amazons & Wonder Woman when it comes to engaging with the outside world.

Also, I'm with you on Chris Pine. I just find him very unlikeable. He has the looks and personality of a Thunderbirds puppet.

I'm a fan of Wonder Woman but I wouldn't say I'm a comic buff with her stuff. I'm more of a Wonder Woman t.v. show re-runs and Justice League Unlimited type of fan haha. So by telling you and others that basically where I'm going is that I honestly would have preferred maybe a movie where she's not positioned in one specific period of time. I get that without seeing the movie and just knowing there is a tie in to that picture from BvS that this World War setting is a must to explain that aspect but from the outside looking in I probably would have liked a mix of the past and present. Again that just goes back to mainly being a little bored with movies in general that take place during the wars of the early half of the 20th century but what will make it interesting is the fact that we're not exactly dealing with a war movie here or some romantic World War soldier setting.

Looks like Sony are keeping an eye on Wonder Woman too...

Only rumours atm, but with the stories about Sony pushing ahead with a set of 'Spider-Verse' films (that won't feature Spider-man), it's hardly that out there.

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous simply because most of the characters for this 'Spider-verse' have origins that are inextricably linked to Peter Parker, for example. How are they going to do Tom Hardys 'Venom' film without referencing Spider-man?

Not to mention using Dusk without any reference to the Slingers?

To be perfectly honest, I'm of a pretty similar opinion to you. I understand why they've done it the way they have, but my presonal preference would have been opening with her coming back into the here and now and have people reference how she looks like that urban legend from WW1, and then deal with that in flashbacks.

Not even necessarily flashbacks to be honest, but just a more non-linear approach to the presentation of her story. Although, full disclosure I havent seen it yet, so they may present the story in a more interesting way than the usual.

All that said, I am still hopefull that it will be at the very least, better than the other DC films, although I am aware that's not really a very high bar...

Not to mention there's a Batgirl movie on the horizon and DC has always been throwing out there a movie I believe a live action of that DC Super Hero Girls stuff. Probably just random super heroes in one movie but all females.

I mean one has to think, all those women that are into cosplay, even if they're just into the costume aspect they'd still be into the movie as well I bet. So why not bank on a demographic that for probably 10 years now has exploded into the genre i.e. girls being into comics and/or comic book movies/shows more than ever. Then again, 15-20 years ago you didn't have even a 10th of what you have now in terms of just movies and shows. 1999 didn't exactly have 40 comic book/graphic novel based movies and shows on every major channel.

At the very least? Are we mainly just talking Zack Synder DC Universe or are we also including Nolan's Batman? Because it's going to be tough to do better than the trilogy and to be honest I know people slight Man of Steel and BvS but those 2 movies I thought were really really good. If Wonder Woman is better than Green Lantern and the Supergirl show I say it's a win haha.

Oh, also, I don't know if any of you have noticed, but there appears to be a big pricing glitch on Amazon atm for Marvel books on kindle, up ro 95% of on a lot of them. Well worth a look before they correct it.

Well, you can read them on your PC or iPad/tablet of choice with either the Kindle or Comixology apps.

Im kinda scared to look at how much I've just spent :S

Snagged the complete 'Sensational Foes of Spiderman', which is a great comic, and Tom Kings run on Vision which is awesome, along with a crapton of old favourites. Took a lot of willpower to not buy up all of the New Mutants collections!

I wonder who will be the enemy of Venom in this film. I hope it's not the cops. I think Rhino could also be used in some capacity in a film. Maybe sorta replacing Juggernaut in a "Madness"-inspired story. Make Venom reference the broader MCU just like the Marvel shows.

    I'd assume Carnage

Seems a little early for Carnage. I wouldn't be surprised if they just pit Venom against mobsters or human traffickers or something.

I liked the five offspring that were extracted from the symbiote by the Life Foundation. There were three males (Lasher, Phage, and Riot) and two females (Agony and Scream). After the hosts were killed off the symbiotes merged into the being known as Hybrid.

My buddy was telling me that the Lethal Protector arc might be good to pull from.
