    Board Game Forum Guidelines

A few basic rules and suggestions to make your stay in the Board Games Forum (BG Forum) a pleasant one:

    - The thread stickied to the top of this forum is the “Gamers’ Lounge” or just “the Lounge”. It serves as town square for the BG forum. Any game announcements are usually copied there as well as any other news important to BG Forum regulars. However, it is mainly there for random chit-chat between the players. Feel free to step in and introduce yourself.

    - That said; the Lounge is the only place where random conversation should be happening. Posts in the actual game threads should be restricted to game play itself. However, certain games like “Survivor” and “Big Brother” do lend themselves to bantering between the contestants and this is, of course, perfectly acceptable.

    - It is usually a very good idea to post an idea for a new game in the Lounge before starting a new game thread. If the game already exists or if it’s been tried and failed in the past the regulars in there will be able to let you know. Likewise, if it is a good idea the number of players for your game will be much higher if you announce it in the Lounge first.

    - Please note the title of this forum is not the “Post Padding Forum”. The days of needing to get past the magical number of 500 posts to get your “rep power” are long gone. Therefore, the days of accepting overly simplistic or insulting stupid games are gone as well. Simple rule of thumb- IF A 9-YEAR-OLD CAN PLAY, THE GAME IS CRAP. Games that are determined to meet this definition will be closed. Posting your idea for a game in the Lounge will generally keep this from occurring

    - The BG Forum is populated by a core group of regulars whose identity will become apparent very quickly. If you have any questions they can generally help you out.

    - Most of the newer games have a “Game Manager” assigned. This is the person who keeps the game on track, answers any questions and plays referee when needed. Any questions about a SPECIFIC game should go to the Game Manager.

    - This is NOT the Asylum. Excessive and unwarranted swearing, flaming, etc, is not acceptable, and spam of any kind is not acceptable. Such actions will be dealt with by the Moderators.

    - Moderators patrol this Forum on a regular basis, but if you have an issue with a post then please use the report post function before you "play moderator" yourself. Don't abuse this function by constantly reporting posts frivolously or without cause, but don't make a situation worse by responding.

    - To quote Wedge quoting Average Joe, "Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation go a long way in making yourself look like you're not mentally deficient." We don't necessarily require all of these things, but this isn't a chat room, or text messaging. You have ample time to polish up your thoughts and to make it look good. Give it a whirl.

Failure to abide by these rules may result in a suspension or banning. That being said; this is a laid-back forum dedicated to having some fun and seeing how clever you really are. Pick a game and dive in.

Welcome to the Board Games Forum!
